  • First of all. Huge shoutout to ‪@okinawacars‬ for most of the BROLL in this video. Wouldn’t have been possible without him.
Well it took a while, but I finally finished the 997 best features video. This is intended to counter my video where I go into the things I hate about the car.
There's no perfect car, Porsche is no exception, but they are definitely a strong contender for best all-round sports car, whether that be a Cayman or a Carrera.
However, different people are looking for different things, and while I'm glad to have owned a 911, I will be selling it sooner rather than later.
This is an incredible machine, but it's not the car for me. I want a little touge ripper!

Your comment about electronic steering racks is wrong - please look up how they work. You're confusing an electronic steering rack with steer-by-wire. In an electric steering rack, the steering wheel is still physically connected to the wheels.

You’re absolutely right! Correcting the record and pinning your comment so I don’t get the same corrections later.
I will make sure I understand the differences better going forward.

Despite everyone picking littlest items to pick on you, your report is 99,9% correct, the 997.2 is the best 911 available, and I have owned them all, except the latest 992, which is a Huge car. Thanks you.

I have the exact 997.2 (white + beige) with PDK. I really liked both your videos of this car, would rate them very highly even though I have watched tons of videos on 997.2. I do agree with everything you said about PDK but at the same time would like to provide a different point of view based on my ownership experience. #1. PDK behaviour: yes, it is very edgy and lacks smoothness for a daily-driver in traffic use case but this very nature becomes a thing of beauty if you are buying this car for kicks and have other cars for work commute etc. All the edgy and mechanical feel of this PDK makes it feel a lot closer to manual transmission unlike the smooth ZF8 or newer gen PDKs. In other words, 1st gen PDK is more fun and desirable if you are looking for a hobby car. #2. Reliability and cost of PDK repair: What you say in the video is correct but there has been a huge breakthrough a couple of years ago and the dreaded distance-sensor failure is now repairable. Lot of information and success stories can be found on rennlist 997 forum. Of course, manual transmission would be special but it's much harder to find one. If I were to buy again, I would still pick the PDK as I do enjoy the convenience of having access to both auto + manual modes.

why would anyone hang a pine tree scented thing in a Porsche? surely, it kills the smell of the classic Porsche.

I’m looking to buy the same generation of Porsche right now, but I am aiming for the 997.2 for sure because I hear it’s more reliable ? Apparently the 997.2 doesn’t have the IMS bearing failure issue and the engine is just better. So I’m sold on the 997.2 for sure.

$40,000 997.2s simply do not exist here (West Coast USA) certainly not 6spds. Paid 66K for a 4s with PDK and 50K miles, that was after doing a lot of searching and giving up on finding a manual. Love the car though even after the initial disappointment of settling for the PDK,

Unacceptable. I thought the same way a few years ago tbh, but I've come around. You just lose too much driver connection and engagement with an auto box in what's supposed to be a fun engaging driver's car.

@@atrain132 can't miss what you never had. Driving an auto car, even a really good auto, is just not the same. You physically have fewer inputs as a driver; less to do, a lower skillcap.
Good for ultimate lap times or commuting. Bad for enjoying the simple pleasure and art of driving. It's that simple. And you have to decide when buying what you care about more. That's a personal choice.

    • @atrain132
      @atrain132 Месяц назад

@@colinbowman8816 lmfao! So you automatically assume I've never had a manual transmission car, nor a manual 911..? 🤔
This 997.2 is the second car I've ever had with an automatic, and the PDK is top notch. I enjoy it more than the 6 speed 911 turbo I had.
I've driven manual transmissions all my life, and they are highly overrated. Just because someone has sequential gearing doesn't mean they're not skilled, whatever that's suppose to mean. You're right about one thing though, it is a choice. I choose faster shifts.
