    10,000 Mile Ownership Review: Porsche 911 997.2 Carrera S
    What's it like to own and drive a 15 year old Porsche 911? In this video I share my firsthand experience with my 997.2 Carrera S, going over both the good and the bad. Additionally, I had the opportunity to compare it directly against a 991.1 Carrera for 2 weeks.
    The Porsche 911, no matter what generation, is a legendary sports car, each having it's own unique quirks. After 10,000 miles of ownership with my 997.2 Carrera S, I've had a reasonable amount of experience with it to provide a thoughtful review.

    I had the same foam problem in my 997.2 S. If you don't want to cut into your 997, you can get some vent covers from VisionVents that will solve the hot air coming out the top dashboard vents. For the foam, I bought some mosquito head mesh nets and taped them over each vent to catch the foam. Then I drove the car around with the AC on full bast. Did that a few times until I got most of the foam out and now I barely have any coming out.

      Not bad! I was thinking shop vac over one vent at a time with the others closed and the air on full blast. Haven’t tried anything yet though 😂

    Bravo, mate! Top video! There is a cure for the black heater foam. I fixed it on my 996. Requires a bit of surgery but it’s easy! ❤

      Yes! I watched through it a couple of times back when you first put it out, while I was considering doing it on my 996.

    The editing at the concourse was 👌!! Well done!! I don’t think I have the patience to wait 3 years for you to import a 996.1 GT3, so I’m going to need you to upnthat timeline! M’kay, thanks!!

      LOL, yeah. It it’s only money right? We gotta say those things out loud because eventually, some day they absolutely WILL COME TRUE!! Maybe sometimes…. That 996 really dug itself in under your skin, huh? I’ve heard the early 996 GT3 were pretty light and raw. Should be an amazing experience.

    just drive in Sport mode and push suspension button to off! The best mode tho IF you put trans into manual mode AND have paddle shifters is to use SPORT PLUS mode. Very crisp shifts. Try it you wont regret it.

    Long time watching your videos , I also sold my 996 - 1999 and got a 09 Cayman with a PDK just like yours . Although mine has 41k miles I was wondering about the transmission service base on the aged of the car rather than miles. Are you considering doing this service? Oil and the pan filter . Anyway, as always great content!

    • @motorsandmeats88
      @motorsandmeats88  5 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks so much for watching! I hope the content quality/production quality is getting better overtime. Lol. Yes, I do plan to do the service on mine. And given that there are almost no repair options for the PDK if it goes, I would err on the safe side and do whichever service interval comes 1st: time or mileage. When I do mine, that will be its second service as it was done at around 60,000 miles.

    Any particular reason you chose 997.2 over the .1?

    • @motorsandmeats88
      @motorsandmeats88  6 дней назад +1

      Yes, a couple reasons. I wanted to experience the PDK, and I didn’t want to have the IMS nagging at the back of my mind. PDK was first introduced with the 997.2, and the IMS went away with the 997.2.

    • @Bigeasyya

      @@motorsandmeats88 do you believe the 997.1 motor sounds better than the .2? I’ve been going back and fourth on which gen to get but I want a manual and the premium on manual 997.2’s pretty much prices me out my budget

    • @motorsandmeats88

      I will actually have a chance to hear a side-by-side comparison today. I am at Barber motorsports Park for a high-performance driver education weekend. My driving coach for the weekend has a 997.1. I will say that in the Facebook groups I’m in, it’s generally accepted that the dot one sounds better in stock form.

      So I did get to ride in my instructors car, and he in mine. At first glance, they are identical. On the interior, the stereo is more modern in mine, including more connectivity options. My car has sport chrono and his did not. My car was lowered and has modified exhaust, and his was stock. His car was manual, and mine a PDK. I would say that other than those very slight differences, the experience from the passenger seat was indiscernible from a 997.2.

    Does the Bluetooth work well in the 997.2? I’m considering trading a 2023 MKV GR Supra 6MT for a 2012 997.2 but worried it would feel like going backwards as far as necessities and technology. I don’t care about Apple CarPlay as much as I like it, but I can live without it as long as the driving experience is great.

    • @motorsandmeats88
      @motorsandmeats88  4 месяца назад +1

      I’ve actually never tried to pair the phone to the car. The PCM3.0 does not have music Bluetooth connectivity. It does have an aux input and a USB input, so you can play your phone audio that way without adding the Joy Auto wireless CarPlay device, So definitely it would be a step back in time if you don’t add that.
