  • Here it is
    The HP ENVY x360 2in 1
2020 version with the all new AMD 7nm Ryzen 4700U
IT finally came in the post after weeks of waiting. I honestly thought that I will have to cancel the order made on the HP store but here it is. And NO nobody is paying for this video and no one is sponsoring anything you see here.
I bought this laptop for one thousand British Pounds and Ordered a rechargeable mouse and a 3 year HP care Pack as well.
I have been using this device for a few days now and I have some good and bad things to share with you.
First impressions are great, the box looks very nice from the outside. However on the inside its basic cardboard with little design features, so if you are into that there’s nothing for you here.
It’s strange but I suspect that my box has been tampered with, as there was a small tear near the handle.
I think the HP UK office had to open the box to add a region specific power cord and some accessories that the laptop comes with. Speaking of accessories the device comes equipped with the USB-C to HDMI display adapter and the standard barrel type 65 WATT quick charger.
On this device you have two so called DROP JAW usb 3.2 gen 1 type A ports . Each is 5 Gbit/s
You also have one USB-C 3.2 gen 2 port capable of 10Gbit/s, it doubles up as power delivery up to 65 watts and a display port. I contacted HP support and they say that 2 screens can be connected using this USB-C port. I suspect that two 4k monitors might work but in 30 hz not 60hz.
Sure you have a headphone jack micro SD card reader and the barrel style input for the charger.
It has a backlit keyboard, thin bezels and metal body, Its really nice to hold in the hand. When using it in tablet mode the size of the screen and the thickness of the whole device makes it not as comfortable to hold when you compare to you smartphone of the Microsoft surface pro 7.
Of course in the United states you can have this laptop with WIFI 6 … Unfortunately in Europe is not possible, you only get the AC version of WIFI 5. Also in the united states there are other screen options to choose from. Here in the UK you only can get one screen which is the 300nit full HD panel with 74% of NTSC colour gamut.
And here it is the 2in1 HP ENVY x360 convertible. Before we get into the specs I want to tell you that I just recently sold my Dell Precision M6700 with the top of the range 8 core Intel i7 3940XM. I am still asking myself the question WHY the heck did I sell this workstation. It gave me everything I needed the QUadro K5000M was good enough for any kind of 3d work, 4K rendering and even mid quality gaming. Why did I sell it? The Precision M6700 it was a big 17 inch workstation with a heavy and rigid body and I needed something small and light with touch input for my work and clients. I did not sell the Dell Precision workstation because I didn’t like the features and the durability of the device. I just sold it because it was too big and heavy to carry it with me everywhere.
And here we are today the HP ENVY x360 2020 version with the 7nm AMD Ryzen 7 4700U. Its a 8 core 8 thread CPU no hyperthreading on this one. I specifically chose this CPU as I would like to combine portability and performance to.. some extent…
I am doing a lot of writing, sending emails, going through spreadheets and all sorts of paperwork. On the other hand I am doing 4K video editing and After effects 3D scene compositing. That is why I chose the HP Envy with 16GB of ram. …
Unfortunately the ram is soldered to the motherboard and the only thing that you can upgrade here is the SSD. I ordered the top of the range version equipped with the 4700U 16GB of ram and a 512 GB NVME drive.
The bad news here are that the stock SSD that comes with the device is a Pcie 3 x2 so it has only two lanes of Pcie. However the good news is that I contacted HP through hP forums and support and got a message that the Pcie port on the motherboard actually is PCIE 3 x4 using 4 lanes of PCIE. I don’t really understand this move by HP, like why would you install a slow 2 lance SSD when you equip your device with a faster interface on the mainboard. Err I don’t know, maybe its cost saving.
There are plenty of reviews on the internet about the track pad and the size of the keys. Some people are comparing keyboards and saying that the Dell XPS 13 has got to a better keyboard. I’m not gonna go into that as these kind of suggestions are subjective, I don’t have any other laptop to test and compare, but I can tell you that typing on this Envy x360 in comparison to the Dell M6700 17 inch workstation is in my opinion better as all the keys are at my fingertips and I don’t have to move my hands to find the keys. This keyboard is sufficient and easy to write on, its easy to learn and key layout is intuitive.

Thank you for color calibration tip @ 9:21! At first, I was quite satisfied with how my screen was calibrated from the factory, but upon closer inspection, it looked like it had too much green to it. Honestly, sometimes I feel this was done on purpose to make AMD look bad. I don't know but it's very weird if you ask me because the Envy's with intel chips are calibrated very well. On the other hand, the AMD ones are messed up with no logical reason. And the issue isn't with the display, in fact, the display is very beautiful. So, why mess up the calibration and make the screen look yellow?

Got this one myself, and command center stopped working after I installed Win 10 2004. Button works if you run the program first, but after a restart, it won't. I replaced the NVMe drive, but it's a bastard to open, so be aware ;) Installing the Adrenalin drivers causes the 'freesync' option to not be supported, whereas, on the Radeon Settings Lite software/drivers (originally pre-installed), freesync works fine. Function keys mode can be changed in BIOS. Back rear rubber foot hides 3 x Philips screws, and this stretches whilst removing, thus makes it too long to refit. I called up HP support, and they were kind enough to send out 2 replacement kits of rubber feet strips, although the one at rear front does not have to be removed at all, as 2 Torx screws sit below this. Good service indeed. Sent FedEx express next day as well, so good on HP :)

Careful! I bought this laptop, but the 15.6 inch variant with ryzen 7 and 16gb ram. I have to say I was very disappointed with the display at 250 nits and the colour was way off. Final straw was poor connection for college streaming. It kept cutting out but my two year old hp pavillion was working fine for the same online lecture! Luckily, I was able to return it despite using it and swapped it for the mac book pro although paying alot more, but wow 500 nits, like night and day. Guys lesson here is even though processor is great there is a trade off in display and WiFi ac. Pen is a bit gimmicky and you'll never use the 360 screen in flip mode given the poor display. Basically you get what you pay for. It's a shame considering the processor but be warned!

The HP key stopped working after I installed Windows 2004, which btw is giving trouble with the sleep state of the device (this is not an HP issue directly, as it seems to be related to a Windows10/Ryzen mismatch).

atlast someone has told the truth. the display is yellowish in my hp too. i have done the color caliberation with out satisfactory result. i will follow your 2 notches of red and 4 notches of green. hp tech india is saying that it is in the design of antiglare displays. i really dont understand the logic behind this. how can hp take for granted that this feature is going to be liked by all. personally this was really annoying until i got used to it by doing some not so satisfactory color caliberation.

My unit also has this yellowish tint. It's not complete yellow but it is on the warmer side.I don't think it's bcoz of the anti-glare tech bcoz this is a very reflective display.
The calibration setting i use is 4down for the red and 3 on the green...It looks great then.Only problem is when i'm rotating the screen it flickers for a fraction of second to the original color to adjust for the screen orientation. It's a little bit annoying for my OCD lol but yeah the colors are good now...

Hi Mike. As a foreign student who study in Britain, it's quite frustrating to find that many cutting edge devices are not available in the UK market plus the UK has rather high vat tax (20% as I know) which leads to the British customers to pay more for the same deceive compared with American customers. How do you think about this fact? By the way, it's an excellent video and I am following your channel sir.

    • @DamZFXBeats
      @DamZFXBeats 4 года назад +1

Higher vat usually results in free or better care in other things. For example we have free healthcare in the UK. NHS do a great service (despite them always receiving cuts). To my understanding USA doesn't have free health care?

I just got the HP envy. I was going to get the Acer Nitro but it was to bulky for every day use & although the specs are better on the acer the build quality is no where near as good as the HP envy all metal build & there seemed to be a lot of reports of cooling problems after time on the Acer Nitro.. Does its USB c has this much power or wattage? or how much the limit for this labtop or all labtops if there is a general answer for all type C's? . Thanks again and I'm waiting your answer kindlly.
