  • The HP ENVY x360 15z-ds100 is a fantastic 2-1 laptop powered by the new AMD Ryzen 4500u or 4700u. This brings great CPU and GPU performance in a very power efficient form factor.
    The 4700u is faster than the Intel i5 10300 in most tasks.
    HP include a pen so with a starting price of $699.
    The Envy x360 is perfect for students and artists

      @@OWNORDISOWN The reason is HP is selling various configuration with CPU ranging from R3 4300U to R7 4700U and Ram from 8GB and only handful of them offer the 400 nits option. If you select the model 15z-ee000 with 4300u, 8gb ram and 256gb ssd, then you'll have the 400 nits display upgrade option. Below is the link.

    BTW, just found one interesting fact after watching the review in AMD Tech who has used the upgraded 400 nits version. Looks like HP has two version of Envy x360 15 Ryzen model, one has the option to upgrade for the 400 nits panel and the other doesn't and only option is the 45% NTSC 250 nits. However, the internal thermal solutions are different. The model reviewed here, which cannot be upgraded to the 400 nits panel, has the two fans at two corners of the rear, connected by a heat pipe. On the other hand, the model which can be upgraded to 400 nits panel, has the two fans one after another, in the left side and one heat pipe. The positions of ram and ssd are also slightly different.

      I finally found a review of the model that I received. I didn't have the option for 400 nits and had to get the 250. I like that the power button and fingerprint scanners are in better positions. The bezel is larger but it looks like the other version still has the same screen size. They just added more plastic along the bottom part of the bezel.

      this model reviewed, is based on the 2019 chasis with an added fingerprint scanner and the privacy button different. other versions, has power button on the keyboard, the fingerprint scanner is also on the keyboard. vents are at the back and one of the USB ports has a flap to access it. I prefer this chasis, this is more of a true 2-in-1, other is more of a laptop with a 360 hinge.

    Good review. This is last year's design with refreshed internals. There is a 2020 model where the screen can be configured with a 400 nit or 1000 nit screen with better color gamut. AMDTech just did a first look on it earlier today. I'd love your thoughts on the 2020 variant whenever you get a chance. No rush.
    This shows that the Ryzen 7 is amazing for a lot of use cases. The 2020 variant of this laptop I think is enough for most people IF they don't need Thunderbolt 3 or dedicated graphics. If they do need that, then a proper gaming laptop or workstation laptop is needed. I just wish the 13" one had at least one RAM stick for upgradeability b/c it keeps you at 16GB RAM forever.

      @@OWNORDISOWN I bought my ENVY to be used as a portable solution for my professional 3D Modeling, Sculpting and rendering work I do at my office. It's been up to the task of that so I don't have to move my desktop workstation. So I am going to run the same Classroom render benchmark in 2.83 that you ran and see where the CPU is in this chassis. Though my workflow primarily leverages the integrated GPU. I will post back my times. As for gaming, I don't game on this laptop but for the sake of my own comparisons I will see how that does as well.

    • @ncl3rdy2
      @ncl3rdy2 4 года назад +1

      @@OWNORDISOWN I ran the Blender Benchmark on my system and it returned a 16:57.99 time. The CPU stayed at 3.3Ghz and 85c through the majority of the render.Only towards the last quarter of the render did it suddenly drop to 3.16Ghz and 72c. That is running it on a desk, 23.8c ambient, and in performance mode. So it seems that there is slightly more thermal headroom as far as stressing the CPU by itself is concerned. I will test the GPU with something you noted in your video as well. I am doing this because I have few people that were interested in the laptop I have been using and want to ensure that they find the correct one and not the older design. Especially the newer chassis performs better.

      william blake, the point is that these can actually play them. It isn’t about what is bettter. Plus, to an extent you are correct. Currently it seems like you can’t really get anything great past the etc 2060 with an amd processor on laptops. That isn’t the point though. The fact that you can play these games on an iGPU is crazy. Compare that to an intel notebook of similar class and you probably won’t be able to at all. This laptop isn’t meant for gaming, but the fact that it can do some is pretty impressive.

You need to use a "real" ruler laying on the screen at SLOW speeds to test jitter. I have the 3500U version and like it well... Aside from issues with Bluetooth. No matter the driver, it is not reliable, with dropouts and other issues. The Wi-fi card is a Realtek RTL8822BE and I'm going to replace it with I hope a whitelisted Intel card. Swapping is a real PITA (as shown the MB has to come out), and the removable feet strips are worthless... I removed them permanently, and glued-on proper feet.

    How do the build quality and thermals compare to the Dell Inspiron line, I wonder (specifically the Dell Inspiron 7591 model)?

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  4 года назад +1

      The HP envy x360 15z was pretty solid, so probably on par with the Dell. Its thermals were fine as I showcased. Not tried the dell 7591 though. Lisa from MobileTechreview reviewed it so perhaps you can check out her review on it

    • @trash_whisperer
      @trash_whisperer 4 года назад

      OWNorDisown Thanks! I did watch her review. I’m just kind of ambivalent about the Inspiron 7591 because I have read some contradictory reviews, ha ha, and at this point I’m not sure what to believe. I suppose if components are very similar than cooling will be determined by the placement and size of the fan.

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  4 года назад

      Also, and most importantly the wattage the components use - I show that in my game play. I wish Lisa would do the same :(

    • @trash_whisperer
      @trash_whisperer 4 года назад

      OWNorDisown That’s a good point, I’ve forgotten about wattage. Your comment reminded me to consider CPU wattage when comparing laptops. 😀 I think laptops classified as “high performance” will inevitably get warm - but those with less demanding processors shouldn’t have this problem.
