Man, I have been fussing around with my gas fireplace for years (got it used) to make it work and finagle things (every season there seems to be something new going wrong lol). I don't know how I never found your channel before but you are amazing man. You make everything a million times easier to understand and work on!! thank you so much!
Thank you for the clear, concise, and thorough descriptions and information. Your videos have been extremely helpful in helping me understand the parts of our gas fireplace and how to troubleshoot it.
Wow ur videos helped me investigate the issues with my fireplace. my fireplace would start and shut down automatically in 5 min. Installer said 2 years after fireplace install warranty is out and quoted 475$ to change pilot assembly and sit valve. i checked ur videos to understand fireplace parts and thermocouple and thermopile function. Seems like there was a gas pressure issue due to stove installed after fact, plus some dust in pilot assembly which was preventing pilot light touching thermocouple properly, also draft underneath which was blowing flame away from thermocouple. I saw that my pilot was not covering the thermopile completly . turnedoff stove and started fireplace, fireplace ran for 20 min and the the pilot became bigger. leads me to believe dust was in the pilot assembly that got removed after running fireplace for 20 min.
I just moved in to house that was built in 1973. All I can find on my gas fireplace is a chain at top, front, middle of the fireplace. The other thing I have a rod that sticks out next to the brick outside on the wall. Can’t find the model plate. I don’t know if it’s because it is so old or what.
