    Moved into a house this year and I do not believe in the 9 years it has been built that a single person EVER cleaned the fireplace. The lava rocks were so gross I opted to buy new ones but thank you so much for this much needed tutorial.

    Certified propane service tech here and I can say almost everything you did here I can agree with EXCEPT air compressor because it can lock up applience regualter . I suggest canned air . Great video

      I have glow ashes that are on the bottom of my fireplace. My fireplace was a burning fireplace and is real dirty. Could I get the rocks instead?

    Is it necessary to have the mesh or glass if I have a decorative fireplace screen? I dislike look of both the glass and the mesh. Thank you.

    How to troubleshoot the flame should it be all blue how much yellow is ok and should that yellow be limited to the outer zone of the flame?

    I have a problem with my fireplace turning off after burning for about 3 minutes. Pilot and flame turned off. Where I think I did something wrong is I washed my fake logs and didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to do that. Could wet logs cause it to turn off like that?

    What do you recommend on using on the black metal to restore the color? Any particular polish?

      Sorry I don't have a good answer for this one. I know the answer for automotive is mother's back to black, but not sure if that's recommended for fireplace stuff. You could always paint it if you can get it out or tape things off. I would use Rust-Oleum black

      I do not have a specific process for that since mine was still attached. Just a basic vacuum, spray and wipe as good as possible. You could do it better, but that will get you by with no smells or visible dirtiness

    Thank you so much for this video! My fireplace is a bit different than yours; however, I'm confident I will be able to clean it...it's way overdue. I wanted to ask you, why not soap and hose off the logs...would that ruin them? Thanks again :)

      I would keep soap and water off the logs just in case. I'm not sure what would happen, but good dry paint brush dusting does just fine

    Hi- is there a way to remove the sliding mesh that hangs in front to clean it? Ours is covered in black dust that will make a huge mess if I try to clean inside!

      Sorry I missed this. Did you get it figured out? I'm not sure how easy they are to remove, but I'm sure you can. If it were me I would be tempted to shop vac it if you have one. Then spray it down with a vinegar and water solution. Say 25% vinegar/75% H2O. Have paper towels or an old t shirt underneath. Then proceed to wipe it down well. Won't be too bad. Good luck

      @@larcher1221 A lot of them are two rods that are screwed in to the metal. Take the two screws out and you can pull the rod free and take them out.

    My fireplace looks exactly like yours however it appears as tho you have a glass enclosure. I only have the mesh curtains. Is the glass necessary?

      No it's not needed. Those are just glass doors that close

      I would suggest putting them as they are intended to hold and radiate heat. It makes your fireplace more efficient

      I'm sure you can, but I'm not a real expert. I would use a wet cloth on them after you use a paint brush and compressed air to get all the dry nasty off

      I washed my logs and read later on that you should never ever wash the logs but it’s too late. Now I noticed that my fireplace turns off after about 3 minutes pilot and flame.

      Experts say don't do it. Stick with the brushing

      @@BtwilliasGarage. Weeks later after the logs dried, I noticed they got white spots like mold but at least now the flame stays on now. Sometimes you learn the hard way.

    So we just bought a house and the fireplace was filthy as was the house . We shop vac The entire fireplace including the pellets which I thought were animal droppings . Can I just go by new rocks and pellets . Everything is in the shopvac if I need to go through and pull things out .

      I don't have the rocks under mine; however, I think I would prefer them as all around gets really dirty and dusty and I think the rocks would be easier to remove and clean, every so often.

    My fireplace starts with pilot it turns on with the switch but after 30 seconds it turns off and then I can't turn it on from switch. What could cause this?

      They are not needed for the fireplace to function. They are for looks and efficiency of the heat
