We just moved in to this place and have never had a gas fireplace before. it wouldn't start for us and your was the first video we watched. We got it going! Thanks so much!
Thank you sir! Simply cleaning mine took care of it! I’m now not freezing & in the event there is a blackout, I’ll have a way to keep heat right now. As a single lady, this was tremendously helpful!!!
Thanks! May have just saved me a service call! I made the appointment, but they can't come for another week. Meantime, the gas logs knock off the chill! So glad I saw this!
Your video saved me a service call, thanks. One additional tip though, after using the wire brush and pick I blased the jets with a can of compressed air. This is the type you use on computer keyboards. Worked great as the tube straw fits right in the pilot holes and really cleans out any debris.
Thank you for your reply, I'll look into that, as you know , intermittent problems are the worst to solve, I'll do the test you mentioned and hopefully it's just a matter of changing the sparker.
Yep, just needed a quick clean. Used one of my bore brushes and some canned air. Took a couple tries to get the pilot light to stay lit, but now works better than ever. Thanks! jc
Decided to give this video a try before having a tech come out to fix my gas fireplace. As a 61 year-old woman, I find these kinds of things intimidating. I followed your easy to understand instructions and voila, pilot is lit and fireplace works great. I vacuumed the dust out and cleaned the glass while I was at it. Thanks for posting this video and saving me the $125 service fee!
We use acupunture needles to clean 3d printer nozzles, they are VERY thin surgical steel needles. Maybe something like that would work cleaning the pilot light?
Awesome! We have had three fireplace guys out to fix our fireplace and they said they couldn't! My hubby just watched this video and yay I have my fireplace back!
Quick and Easy 5 minute Appliance Fixes I kept trying and cleaning and sure enough it started. You’re a life saver. I was going to call a contractor and he wanted $200 just for cleaning and an additional $125 to diagnose the problem. You saved me a few hundred bucks. Thank you!
I'm new to having a gas fireplace cause I've always lived in an apartment until recently, but I can't get mine to light up. Interestingly enough, I'm not seeing an on/off switch on my wall like you have.
When my pilot wouldn’t light. I checked the AA battery on the side of the setup and found the battery completely corroded. I didn’t even know there was a battery there. I change them all out for the system to start the cold season every year but never changed the one under the stove. It lasted 12 years 😆 it lit immediately when I replaced that hidden battery.
my gas fire has 3 radiants, but, the middle one doesn't glow half as bright as the outside ones... i've given it a thorough clean out... any idea what i can do with this middle, duller, radiant ... The center radiant lights first, followed by the outer 2...
I had the gas company out and they filled my tank. According to them this fireplace hasn't run in 10 years or so. He told me I had to purge the lines and to hold the pilot in for 10 min. This doesn't seem to have fixed my issue.. any ideas on purging the line?
My fireplace does not have the valve that you show in the video only gas line on insert part and key on the outside so how the heck am I supposed to turn it on and off?
i have a Earth fireplace insert. I set the valve to Pilot but the pilot will not lite at all, No gas is going to it. The gas is on feeding into it. Why do you think no gas is getting to the pilot? thank you
We have a gas fireplace it has never been used it will not lite . The pilot will not stay on. The company sent us a new thermocoupling and now a new piece for the control knob . We have spent quite a bit of money having new gas lines run and paying a technician he he completely stumped . Any ideas
Thank you for reaching out I did try the 5 mins still it won’t stay lit . I have the other piece to replace and maybe a new pilot light. Going to get the technician back in to replace too much for me to replace . Thanks again
I can’t find where the spark should come from, or where the pilot light should be. After taking off the fake logs, it’s like a flat tray with some rectangular vents in it.
My gas fireplace won't light when the inside temperature is rather high. Or when it finally lights, the fame won't shut off when it reaches set temperature. Which thing should I be looking at?
My thermo pile and coupler didn't have a lot of buildup on them, simply cleaning them didn't work. I did notice that the flame was not reaching all the way to the pile. The flame was weak and I could even see that some of the pilot flame was leaking out, having a small flame under the bracket that holds the pilot. My guess was that the pilot hole was partially plugged up. I took the whole pilot assembly out. That means unscrewing where the gas and couple lines are attached to the electrical connections box. Once out I could really clean the pilot holes. In my case it was the inside of the pilot that was full of crud. I used water from the sink, a pin to poke up in there, and a toothbrush. It took some time, but this is not hard work. When reassembled the pilot was strong and the flames encircled the pile and coupler with a good blue flame. The wall switch turned on the main burners and all was well. In my home, the gas fireplace keeps the whole up living space pretty warm and the furnace rarely comes on. And this is in 0 degree weather during this freeze we are having. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO! VERY HELPFUL!
Hello, I have a flavel emberglow gas fire. Unfortunately it work after a bit of an effort. I press the dial in to release gas then turn the dial anti clock wise until you feel pressure; then keep going until you hear a click (which is activating the ignition). Then all being well the fire should light, My issue is that the dial just turn; no gas; no ignition and no fire. It does come on eventually but not until a few efforts. Please advise. Many thanks in advance.
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance Thank you very much for your prompt reply. Can you advise how much that is and if I had the service done on the gas fire, would that just "repair" the problem or should I still have that changed? Thank you
I'm still looking for a solution to my problem, the electronic igniter on my fireplace only sparks one or two times but after that it just clicks without any spark, all I hear is click-click- click, and no sparks, if I let it continue it will eventually either lights up or just stops clicking and no flames /fire until I turn the remote ON and OFF and start the process. I have cleaned all the parts I see (thermocouple/igniter/flame sensor but the igniter problem persists.
ddistrbd1 look at pilot light. if you can’t see the spark onto the pilot hood it’s shorting out some where. From the board to pilot. If it’s an old fire place try and clean your sparker and make sure that the spark is coming from the board or source (you can hold the sparker cable 1/8th of inch away from the source and see an arc.) long story short you sparker is arcing other places instead of the pilot. Replace sparker.

Thanks so much for the feedback😊
This is a great product and it works well, put you have to lay on floor to see the starter and see if it is lit.

It is easy for the DIY and works awesome. Easy to use, lots of colors and choices.Couldn’t be happier with the purchase.

Thank you so much for the video. I finally got the pilot to light up but I cant get the burner to start.
That copper thing that the pilot light touches needs to be cleaned with a wire brush.
Make sure the pilot flame is touching it.

Sounds like the gas flow is being obstructed by something 👍
In my case the current to ignitor is not there, and I don't know where is the breaker to see if it has reset.
Nice watch

Get compressed air in a can and blow all the dust out. Works most of the time

Hi what would cause the flame to lite then suck back the flame and go out, kind of like a backdraft? Its intermittent? TIA
Time for a new thermalcoupler

You just turn the key and then light it with a long match or lighter with a long reach.
Should light the log right after turning the key👍
holding pilot button down for more than a minute, once let go, it goes off b4 I had a chance to turn it. what could be wrong? please advice.. thx!

When you press in on the knob to lite the pilot, can you hold that knob in for 5 minutes so the thermocouple has time to heat up.

Thanks Jane, the little hole where the pilot light gas comes out might be clogged with dirt. You can use a small needle to open it up.

Our pilot stays lit nut the logs won’t light. Any clues?
I think you need a new thermalcoupler. They’re cheap 👍
Hi... our pilot light is on but the rest of the fireplace wont light up been trying for days
It’s good to replace the thermalcoupler👍
Mine is all inside a wall? Like and there is a built in bookshelf there?! Not sure how to fix this...
What is gas doesn’t stay on , I used rubbing alcohol to fry and clear the gas holes , but think the gas line is clogged
Helpful video, let me see if I can fix mine now
Got mine fixed. Not sure if the screen is back on correctly, but the glass is, so I’m very happy. Thank you. Mine was dirty
shout out to wifey at 2:35 just doing her thang
What if gas isn't getting to the pilot after cleaning and blowing compressed air in the pilot?

I would check the gas pressure coming out of the reg. I think it looks high.
I think you’re right,
That’s why it was sputtering
What if I don't hear clicking. Igniter bad? I don't see the spark.
Can you send me an email at scottthefixitguy@yahoo.com so I can give you more detail on the fix?
nice instruction you needed to really point or show by pointing at the part by name and also point and show the orifice
