  • The SHVS is a mild hybrid system by Suzuki that uses an ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) to assist the engine when accelerating and to generate electricity through regenerative braking, which it does more efficiently than systems using conventional alternators.

Some might say "The mechanism of the Suzuki's hybrid system does not look like a hybrid system".
Some might say "Just a Suzuki marketing gimmick".
But considering the working principle, it's a truly hybrid system.
It all depends on the results such as acceleration, fuel consumption etc.
In Thailand, eco cars are very fuel efficient but the problem is the air conditioner will not be active when the idle stop system is active. If Suzuki's hybrid system is cheap and can turn off the engine with the air conditioner running, it's attractive.
Toyota's hybrid system is very fuel efficient but it's expensive and the acceleration is not good. Therefore, if the car is used less, you will save fuel not worth the price of the hybrid system.
Honda's hybrid system is another interesting alternative. Although it is as expensive as Toyota's hybrid system, the acceleration is much better without sacrificing fuel efficiency. Therefore the value does not only come from the fuel consumption but also from good acceleration.

Toyota prius 2023 is 196HP. 100km/h in 7 seconds. I have driven that Suzuki swift with this hybrid system and I got a combined fuel consumption of 16Km/L. Its really slow and crappy but its also very cheap and you get some benefits depending on the country.

Its the best hybrid system for anyone who wants to keep a manual tramsmission. I glad Suzuki keeps it going bevause everyone else just kills off manuals and goes for CVT only :/

Is it a manual transmission type?

@@Kacpa2 Yes its 5gear manual .. Pulls like crazy even if it isn't "Sport" - constant torque from 2000 to 5500 RPM .😜 I know i shouldn't be driving it above 4000 first 1000km but I had to push it a little bit . Now I have 400 km and taking care not to pass 4000RPM 😬

Turbo combined with that mild hybrid probably makes it quite torque despite smaller engine.
I stick to japanse cars myself, currently having a Subaru XV 2.0i, its quite nice tho coming from my previous 'sports car' which was an old Toyota Celica from 1990s it doesnt feel as exciting to drive, but it sounds really nice :)

It would be really cool if this component was designed so that it could propel the car on its own from a standstill starting the engine in the process, so that the driver could just keep the car in 2nd gear as it stops at a light and then take off without even using the clutch. Would do wonders for everyone in slow city traffic jams.

    • @liquidkameleon

@@kiyoshim9593 That makes sense. If the car can just keep on driving normally when the hybrid fails it's then a good way to bypass regulations.

@@liquidkameleon I did rent a swift in Colombia. I could see in the dash that the whe I accelerate from 0-60Km/H the Hybrid system would help from 40-50Km/H but again its only a 4.1HP electric motor and I think that the main purpose of it is to start the car. But since Bogota has laws that cars cannot be driven half of the week depending on the last number of your registration plate, Eco-Friendly cars can and that Swift can be driven the whole week without limitations. So I think its the main purpose of that system. Basically a good engine starter.

And you would end up with Toyota battery problem as they have the last 3 years in Europe. They lost reputation thanks to that. Basically their battery is going flat within few days if you don't use it and after that your problem only begins. That's why I decided to choose swift over Yaris cross

you think hibrid means 50% electric 50% gas?
      100% EV is P4
50/50 is plug in hibrid 400v - can run EV P0+P3
30/70 is full hibrid 400v - can run EV normal speed short distance P0+P2
20/80 is strong hibrid 300v (suzuki vitara) - can run on EV but slow speed P0+P2
15/85 is mild hibrid 48v (P0) - cant run EV but asists engine (next gen 48v will have P0+P2 mode that means in 1st gear can run pure EV up to 15km/h)
5/95 is micro hibrid 12v (not even P0) - cant run EV cant even asist engine , only start/stop
0/100 is pure gas or pure diesel
