382 samples were identified as the first record of hypervitaminosis D
    39 presented hypercalcemia (10.2%)
    Some had 25-OH-vitamin D levels between 161 and 375 nmol/L.
(most subjects presented hypercalcemia at serum concentrations of 25-OH-vitamin D less than 375 nmol/L, 150 ng / ml)
In 15 subjects, hypercalcemia could be directly attributed to vitamin D
In no case, serum calcium achieved concentrations considered as critical values (more than13 mg/dl).
    Conclusion
Hypercalcemia due to vitamin D represented less than 4% of the total hypervitaminosis D detected
Less than 0.1% of the tests performed.

No strong evidence proves that moderate amounts of vitamin D are harmful without an adequate intake of vitamin K. However, research is ongoing, and the picture might become clearer in the near future.

I’d lived in Chicago for years, always low Vitamin D levels. Moved south, but levels didn’t rise much, though I was taking about 2000 in/day sporadically. Doc told me this was plenty. Because of these videos, I began taking D religiously. After about 3 months of this, I realized I was sleeping really well and much less depression. Doc confirmed normal range. When I went to get new supply, I realized I’d actually been taking 10,000 iu/day! That’s the dose it took, but no doc had taken me seriously. Thanks to these videos encouraging us to keep up levels!

A very important topic came up here. Probably far more important for people to understand than Vitamin D. The notion that Saturated fat/ cholesterol causes heart/arterial disease has lead to catastrophic decline in human health. We have been told to reduce sat fat and red meat in the diet, and replace it with processed grains and industrial fats refined from otherwise inedible seeds, soybeans and such. The result is a diet low in protein, high in processed carbohydrate, and sky high in omega 6 fatty acids. Those guidelines havent worked out well. There is you causation for diabetes, heart disease, obesity, weak immune systems, many cancers, and more. Eat whole foods people. I didnt say whole grains did I? No, and I didnt say go plant based either. That is all highly profitable crap. Optimal for me is something like Beef butter, eggs,

Just an update, in 2009 I was living in MA - USA, my levels of D3 were nonexistent and every winter I got the flu and whooping cough, my doctor put me on D3 and I have not been sick since. I also added K and Zinc to my daily consumption. I live in a retirement community now in Florida and many folks around me did get COVID and many were hospitalized and some died, I did not get sick and I was exposed to many who did get this flu. I recommend D3, K and zinc to all my friends and some are now doing this as well.

I had my yearly checkup in June. It went as it typically does until we got to the blood work. My doctor was telling me the blood work she was ordering and she had not mentioned vitamin D. I asked her why we were not checking my vitamin D levels and she said they don't. If they checked it at some point previously (prior years) and the patient was deficient they would have been told to take it and if they took it their numbers would be better, if they didn't it would not. No need to check it. I said 'Isn't there a relationship between a person's vitamin D levels and how bad COVID-19 does you?' She said yes. So during a pandemic that has killed a number of people why wouldn't doctors as a practice check for a deficiency in their patients that could potentially save them if they get COVID-19? That does not make sense to me. This pandemic has opened my eyes about the healthcare industry.

Hello, I agree there may be some benefit from screening more people for vitamin d deficiency, however I'm not a doctor she don't pretend to be one. If you have no signs or symptoms of vitamin d deficiency, why would you expect your Dr to check? Similarly, in this video it's suggested vitamin K2 plays a potentially major role in cardiovascular diseases, yet I don't hear you calling for everyone to be screened for vitamin K2 deficiencies despite heart disease being a leading cause of death in the United States. I could go on and on like this. It's just not realistic to screen everyone for everything, especially if there is no indication in the patient to do so. Also, adding more tests = more cost and then everyone would be crying that doctors are just ordering inappropriate tests so they can benefit financially. See? There are many perspectives to issues, we just need to explore them a little. And I'm by no means saying you're wrong or that all Doctors are good at their job. It's just a bit more complex than you may realize

Pretty terrible really. First he says the english don't have many fermented foods (the english cheesemakers beg to disagree). Secondly K1 is hardly needed as other aspects of the diet and body functions really overrule it. there is some conversion of K1 to K2 MK4, but it is ineffecient compared to taking k2 mk4 directly. He failed to research where K2 comes from in animals properly. It is essentially in all tissue, including the muscle at reasonably high levels.
What we ate as hunter gatherers is something up for discussion but I am not sure on his take. We consumed lots of fat so a lean animal we would avoid the leanest parts and just aim for the fattiest parts, dogs much less likely to suffer from 'rabbit starvation' (explorers died from eating lots of lean rabbits is where this comes from, gluconeogenesis can only process so much protein to energy ... we need fat for the bulk of our energy or at a push add some carbs) can be fed leaner parts of the animal including organs (this was reported in the book Fat of the Land). Organs on lean animals would also be lean so priority is fatty meats then on organs like liver etc especially for expectant mothers. The thing is the hunter gatherers would've managed plenty of K2 MK4 from fatty muscle meat alone.
He talked about fermenting foods on the savannah, nomadic tribes followed herds. It has only been the last 10,000 years that we have devolved from a nomadic lifestyle and developed agriculture which leads straight into what he said next which is about kimchi... it was unlikely to be around 30,000-40,000 years ago. Still in this 10,000 years or so peoples who have high fermented plant diets such as the Koreans and Okinawans also have higher rates of specific snips of genes that help process K2 MK7 (notice the difference to the historic animal-based one our ancestors consumed) to K2 Mk4 at a better rate than standard. Most people can convert some K2 MK7 to K2 MK4 but there is a substantial part of the population that cannot do so, they either don't absorb it at all or it remains in the blood building up toxicity levels. Do you know if you can process MK7? That is what those supplements are made of btw.
The foods highest in k2 mk4 are cheeses. Something quite dominant in western diets, another one of his misconceptions. Same with the leading killer being heart disease, this is only true if both sexes are included. Men heavily over represent the heart disease section while women are more likely to die in old age from dementia and related illnesses. The growth of dementia and related illnesses in mortality figures is most disconcerting. This would be a long talk on glucose, oxidised plant oils and in some part APoE4 that is better left to another discussion.
So the breakdown is that K2 MK4, D3 and bio-available protein (that goes up as you age) combined with some natural calcium intake (very little needed) are what helps bone stabilisation. bones are 50% protein and 50% calcium. You can throw as much calcium and D3 at a weakened bone that you like but the studies don't show much improvement while others show just adding some animal protein and the bones start to mend.

Thanks for sharing. Fatigue is a well known side effect of low vitamin d, almost catatonic fatigue. I have autoimmune condition and when they checked mine it was 17, I was also almost catatonic sleeping 20 hours a day couldn't stop sleeping. Was given 100,000 IU to begin with and then 20,000 each month for a few months. I couldn't believe it as I had been taking a supplement of 500 every second day for years as living in Scotland we don't get a lot of sun. I have learnt a lot from Dr Campbell about vitamin d, although prescribed 1000 a day I currently take 6000, but recently increased to 10,000iu for a short period . It's made a huge difference even loose teeth have become strong and not loose any longer. Swelling of feet gone down to normal and my nails have never been in better condition, all in a few months. He said there are vitamin d receptors everywhere in body and yes I know he's right.

What I've learnt is that Vitamin K2 helps removes calcium in the soft tissues and puts it into the bones. While you are taking vitamin D your calcium absorption is increased by 20x so making sure that you reduce your calcium (dairy) intake, at the same time make sure that you are taking 100mcg of K2 per 10,000iu of Vitamin D, drink 2 litres of water a day to reduce the formation of kidney stones and take Vitamin D with a Fat, either a fatty meal or I take it with a high strength Omega 3 and fish oil tablet as Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and is absorbed better with healthy fats.

10000 is big amount. If you haven't problems as cancer this amount it not needed. If you have tested your blood serum bigger amounts of 5000 are not needed but resolving absorption problem....fish oil or animal fat is needed for dissolution and absorption and if there is gut problem lgg probiotic will solve this. In one year on 5000 iu you can gain 100+ of d3 in the blood serum from the base amount. There are different pathways for vit D from food and from sun. From food it is not absorbed in the fat tissue as is with from sun. If there are patology k2 for 4-5000 of D3 should be 300 basically because extra calcium in the blood from d3.100 is just maintenance dosage for 1000 d3.

The cardiologist installed 3 stents, one in two of the arteries main branch and one in a branch artery of the 85% plugged arteries. I have been feeling angina pains with not much activity. I started taking Vitamin K2 about a month ago. Within 2 weeks I felt much less angina pains with activity. So, I'm a believer in Vitamin K2 for heart patients. The brand I take is Doctor's Best. Half of onion chopped, 1 carrot shreaded, 1-2 tbs. Of olive, black pepper and bit of sugar. You can drink the juice from the kraut seperatly its a natural isotonic ,very healthy contains lots of vitamins. The only important thing is that the sauerkraut has to be fermented naturalny without vinegar. Sometimes producent put vinegar to speed up the process od fermentation. Its NOT good. Read carefully labeles or go to polish shop. We also have fermented cucambers but again those healthy are without vinegar. Uff sorry for such elaborated entry. 😉

Ive watched this again a year later and the advice is still as good as it was then.
In the UK, the pharmacists sell low doses at brand mega prices. It's difficult to get K2 and there is virtuously no advice on the bottles of pills as to the daily dose. These vitamins should be available in 250 packs at half the price they now charge. At the start of the pandemic, English men identified as having poor immunity were free issued packs of 200 VD3 pills, but then all went quiet.
As of November 2022 there are no mentions anywhere of Covid except in hospitals and health centres where masks are still requested. I dont, and when challenged I use the excuse that trying to stop covid with cheap masks is like trying to stop gnats flying from one end to the other of a tennis court with the net.

I was a chiropractor in California and studied nutrition. As far back as 2000 we were seeing vitamin D deficiency in our patients. I moved to Western North Carolina and found a functional nutritionist who had me get a blood test and included a test for vitamin D levels. I was shocked to find I was very low in D even though I spend a lot of my time outside. I take 5,000 IU’s a day in liquid form. I was very glad that I already was taking D when COVID hit. For all the symptoms you listed for D deficiency the fact it isn’t automatically checked for still amazes me. I wonder how much of the depression and bone loss seen in older adults are from long standing vitamin D deficiency. I love your videos. Also for years I studied nutrition with a doctor that came from the UK to California to lecture on the subject.

About the origin of how much K2 is recommended, I think I've read something a couple of years ago about it being based off how much Natto (fermented soybean) is eaten by the Japanese. Natto is said to be (one of?) the richest source of vitamin K2 found in food. Maybe you could try and look into that? And now I think about, it, perhaps there's even a possible link between the low to none cases Japan has since some time now..? Japan has a large fish consumption as well, I'm thinking vitamine d3, Omega 3. Quite a stretch perhaps and yet it could play a role.

This man is such a blessing in our lives. I’m not a GP but I always wanted to study evidence based research on vitamins and Covid etc etc. Dr John Campbell is like my teacher. I wish he were in real life. He makes everything about pharmacology sound exciting explaining words and this making learning exciting. Thank you for just being yiur gorgeous quirky intelligent self. I’m addicted to your channel. You deserve an award. By the way I had a most terrible reaction to the Pfizer 2 vaccine and still bedbound with seizures abd at times blindness as my eyes burn and they won’t open. It’s been 4 months of agony and visits to and from hospital. The medicos can’t accept that it was the vaccine that did this to me but I know that all my symptoms began within 25 mins of having the vaccine and then my seizures began 2 weeks after I had the shakes hit and cold shivering shaking and all sorts of other issues. I’m a mental health social worker and I’m curious to know more and I pray that one day I’ll be able to direct as many people to Dr Campbell’s utube site. It’s just fabulous and I feel heard and understood. You have helped keep me sane all night when I can’t sleep and I’m alone. Thank you so much. By the way has anyone else had a reaction to the Pfizer vaccine as my head feels really hurt on fire like an electrical pain and my eyes burn. Also I have severe gastrointestinal issues and my
Wound are not healing I arrived back from the hospital just in time after I had 4 days of bleeding. Even my gums were so inflamed that when I went to the dentist my dentist told me I was at severe risk of having a stroke or heart attack I cough up mucus as well and am frothy in the mouth. I am trying to keep as calm as possible but if anyone else has had any issues will you email me with any suggestions. I have children and I’m not getting any better. Ingridrmessner@gmail.com
I hope we can support each other or exchange ideas. Dr Campbell if you have ANY IDEAS I would be most appreciative although I know how busy you must be. Thanks again Dr Campbell. Your keeping me alive. Love the research. I’m totally addicted.

I am fairly confident in supplementing with Vitamin D in terms of safety. I know much less about Vitamin K. This one I might be concerned about overtaking. The topic of blood clotting makes me a little nervous. However, so far I am reading that it is K1 that is involved in clotting where K2 is not. Trying to find more info to confirm this. So far, sounding like K2 is involved in calcification and not clotting.

Dr. Campbell, thank you. It is refreshing to hear straightforward information explained so even this South Carolina fossil can understand it.

Same, not had a cold or a even a snuffle all 2020 and 2021 so far, with all the lockdowns, mask wearing and social distancing hard to tell if just the D3/K2 alone made the difference, but keeps me happy :)

Thank you so much for your helpful video. A few months ago, I was experiencing extreme tiredness and joint pain and requested a vitamin D test. My levels came back at 12mmol/L! I was prescribed weekly 40,000 IU of Vit D to be taken over 10 weeks. I have nearly finished my course now and feeling a bit better and brighter in mood but sadly, I still have some joint pains and still at times really tired. (Doctors are investigating me for Arthritis) I will continue to take 4000IU daily from now on. I am definitely going to start K2 as well, I have a feeling I am deficient in that one as well. I didn’t even know about K2 and the link with osteoporosis before this video so thank you 🙏

Take 20,000 IU of vitamin D3 and 180 micrograms of vitamin K2 every day. You may have inadequate absorption of vitamin D3 or its metabolism to the active vitamin D form.
