- Magic Potion is the fourth album by Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney released September 12, 2006. They appeared at television talk-show for a live song performance just a few months later.
I remember that night, turning on a small TV in the place I was renting, it could get American channels, and I was blown away by the song.
This is so much harder and raw than many heavy metal bands
Every time I revisit the Black Keys I am still amazed of the sheer volume of sound and creativity coming from just two dudes banging on their instruments.
If you haven't already check Royal Blood I think they're call. It's a drummer and a bassist and the bassist plays like his bass like a lead guitar. The song is Figure it out.

And think of all the great 3 man bands! Cream, Rush, Motorhead, The Police and Jimi and Nirvana and…ZZ Top! They didn't need Autotune, ProTools or sampled drum machines...

That guitar is soooo nice
For the longest time I thought it was a Gibson but in one of the rig rundowns it’s actually an ibanez. Definitely top five still for me anyway

I "discovered" The Black Keys in 2006 when they released Magic Potion. They have a signature sound and style that breaks the mold. So many bands just sound alike and do the same old standard stuff .... and that's .... OK. THESE guys are special.

The drums were louder than the guitar which might be the only thing that really sucks about that era.
I remember Artie Lange was the guest on this episode. After the performance he said ¨Just good old-fashioned kicking ass!¨

Holy shit, the studio recordings of Magic potion don’t do the freewheeling sound of this duo justice. Listening to these love recordings is a whole different experience.

I think they’re music is still really cool, they don’t want to have the same sound every album
I love their old stuff too, but I’m glad they’re not just hawking the same material year after year. Great to see a band evolve.
