- The Sony Mic mount for the K3M, FX3, FX30 is problematic at best. While it might be great for some, we decided to create our own version and make it available to the community.
This video is also meant to be an instruction manual for those who have already ordered our "Step Mount"

🚨UPDATE🚨
Product notes:
1. We've updated to a V2 with brass inserts on the Step Mount.
2. There is a new Mic Barrel (V3&V4) system we've developed that we personally prefer. Video in our feed.
Shipping times:
1. As of August 2024 we are catching up after losing access to our squarespace login/email during our move. This has been fully resolved, but we had to create a new customer support email and are finally getting the last orders out. This goes for several of our products.
2. For new orders between mid July through early August 2024 expect assembly and handling to take 10-15 business days before it ships during this time. Plus the postal shipping time.
3. If your order was late it is likely now on the way.
4. We've added a new (functional) customer support email to our shop as of 7/27/2024. If you sent an email prior to this and haven't heard back, please reach out to the new email.
Thanks again for all the support, and apologies if you've had any delays at all during this time. 🙏🏻
We've updated the latest version to "V2" which includes a rigid (PETG) step mount with built in brass threads for the Rode Lyre isolators. You will no longer need to thread into TPU, and the Step Mount is less likely to bend down with heavy or longer mics. Thank you all for your support and orders, we appreciate you all!!
Ordered mine last week, can't wait for it to come in.
@@kennehtk awesome! Thank you!
Full transparency, we are running a little behind after some squarespace issues while we moved our shop (which was mostly my fault tbh). If you ordered a week ago, your order should go out no later than next week. We are catching up with a few orders that fell way behind because of the issue.
Also, there's a new email on the contact tab of our shop if you have any questions. Thanks again! 🤘🏻

Just ordered it - going to give it a shot on my fx30
Just seeing this, I hope it worked out!! Thank you for the support! 🤘🏼
It’s actually technically not a flaw but you see this in other cinema/broadcast cameras, where the mic holder is slightly bigger to accommodate a wider range of microphones. I think the c100 and c300 was like that too.
But for the demographic of people who are getting the fx3/30, they are using more standard mics so this option is a good one for sure.
Good point, the size was intended for different mics. It isn’t all bad either, I just personally don’t care for the design.
I also have a sneaking feeling Sony continues to do it to just to sell their mics though 😅
Thank you! 🤘🏼-Cliff
Thank you for this !
And thank you! 🤘🏼
I don't think the mic should be that high to begin with. Down by the side is where it should be. Nice solution. 👍🏿
Thanks! I honestly use the side (camera) mounted version the most. XLR/Balanced is nice, but for on camera audio, I find myself using it less and less with the exception of studio tripod work which is usually a boom anyway.
Looks interesting. I need to examine this. My goal for FX3 is a tight run and gun with mic and ninja v monitor with battery attached. Seems so simple, but isn’t
It's always more complicated than we like lol. Are you using a cage, or direct to camera with the monitor?
@@CliffKajun I have a tilta cage. a standard arri mount for the monitor on the handle but the ntg won't fit because of the battery. i don't always want to use a battery pack as this just makes it bigger. or i cold get the old sony mic i suppose.
@@swallowmedia have you considered losing the audio handle all together? IMO it’s not all it’s cracked up to be for on camera mics in a run-and-gun scenario.
@@CliffKajun I do event work and switch between tripod and hand held and find the controls invaluable. I’ll have a half way house so far and will find a way eventually 😊
This is fantastic - I just wish the shipping fee wasn't such a killer
Thank you! Sorry, international shipping is awful in some areas. I've tried on our own website with discount shippers, but Etsy seems to be more reliable, especially when dealing with customs. If you have a local 3D printer we might be able to work something out. Go to our website and shoot me an email. CliffandKajun.com
Cheers!

What's a good bang for the buck camera? 🤔
It depends on your goals and budget, but I think the Sony ZV E1 is about the best RUclips vid/vlog camera on the market ($2200). If you want to save some money, there are a few other options.
