We make vids about 3D printing, Design, and DIY Engineering Projects. We started as a camera and drone channel and found ourselves tearing them apart and rebuilding them more than we actually used them 😅
So, if you're a 3D Printing junkie, or just like to build and film random bad ideas, join us as we share a little inspiration and untested innovation (with the occasional mishap). Check out our links and Patreon (with both paid and free options) if you want to print or build anything we make in our videos.

Terrace Hoops Opening - A Cinematic Video (Featuring FPV and DJI Drones Plus The FX3)
Maybe if you cut smaller segments that are length wise closer to the width, then tumble them with an abrasive, you could _possibly_ get them to be much smoother with less frayed edges and curves and have them more ball shaped, or just generally smoother to get better action. I still don't think they're going to be even remotely close to the low friction state of machined bearings, but still should see some performance gains, and you can tumble a shitload of the segments without it costing basically anything to try and have plenty of spares, or even different sizes at the same time
Well done 👍🏻
Those skateboard bearings are so cheap. Not worth it to print them yourself. Amd the metal ones have very little play, lower profile, and will last much longer and also juch stronger. Not everything should be 3D printed.
Imagine a resin printed bearing😱
Although a funny idea, 3D printed or even milled holels are never round enough to work as a bearing. Entertaining project though that deserved the click.
Does graphite filament exist? Might help with friction
Until you start working with high rpm… Nice job though, seriously!
is this that borrowed tolerance i keep hearing about
Add some keyboard or Rubik's cube lube for longevity
Replacing the greatest mechanical manufacturing achievement of the modern age with 3D printed plastic is silly. 608 bearings cost pennies and have tolerances and material properties that would make engineers of the 19th century jaw drop.
@@Rudmin while I agree and love the details of your comment, this is more about "can we do it" than "is it practical". I enjoy exploring projects like this to see where they take me. Will this result in practical plastic bearings, probably not. Some other fun ideas or concepts, maybe...
your my hero
That thing behind you! King. One above all. I see you. 🙌
Technically that’s a needle bearing not a roller bearing…
Clever idea. I suspect just printing the full diameter of the bearing as solid (like a bolt) with the fuzzy skin setting on high, would yield similar anti-friction results with minimal fuss. Perhaps you could try fuzzy skin on the insides of your bearing to decrease friction contact area. The fuzzy skin would also help hold in any grease applied too 😁.
You can just use some grease to hold the rollers in while assembling it, plus grease in a bearing is magic 👌
@@zakhanson5720 this exactly 🤘🏻 We are editing the long video on these bearings now. I made a larger version for a GoKart and grease works like a charm to hold them in until it's almost upside down. Also, grease is extremely important anyway lol. Obviously the gokart is impractical, but a fun and surprising test 😅.
@@CliffKajun oh dude I’m a swing praise to the printing community, hot damn it’s like magic when you guys beep boop and have RC bearings. Mate how far we have come from articulated arms placing bolts, to terminator style resin printers 🤘 Wire Arc Assisted Manufacturing is something I’ve just learnt of can’t wait to one day see a fully welded car, would of been better than carbon fibre as a pressure vessel 😜 Happy engineering fella! 🤘
Nice! I could see this concept applied in remote place, like mars and the moon, where specific parts are needed for design changes, and where it's impossible to just buy a bearing. Love it
thinking outside the box!
Bearings are cheap & 1000000x better than sh¹t. 🤦🏼♂️
Nicely done, Kajun. Well edited, with many good tips for folks getting started. You did touch on scene lighting (in composition), aperture and shutter speed - and I sense the need to keep the video to an allotted time (i.e. short). Just a little suggestion for future videos - you didn't mention ISO (and I realize people's tolerance for ISO depends on sensor size and camera and their taste, but it would probably help someone to mention your choice for setting this and white balance - and the benefit to what you do. Get the eye sharp, and our brains can trick us into thinking the entire image is sharp. That said, for some scenarios, pre-focus can be of great help - especially since hummers are so habitual - frequently resting or drinking in the same places.
Try airsoft BB's for conventional ball bearings. The BB's are very precise and smooth.
3D printers will be the knife in the side of automated factory line that produce minor parts
While I get the point of this, I'd just buy bulk bags of metal BBs from daisy or red Ryder or whatever and then 3d print the rest.
Should add some grease to the bearings
Clever idea!
Incredible work!!
Really cool idea!
I just found this channel, and the newest video is an explainer on how it’s becoming the channel I have always wanted. Count me in for the long run. I can’t wait to see more of you two in your element.
maybe put some white lithium grease on the needles it might make it last longer! very cool project!
Big brain idea
Could you adjust a 3d printer into an injection moulder and injection mould ball bearings?
smart
that's smart
I feel like most filament has a rough side which helps the filament grip in the hot end feeder. I would think this would be bad for a smooth bearing operation.
This is actually pointless
is the file available
Pencil lead powder as dry lubricant
Grease! Lube! Spit! Anything!
i have had great results with airsoft projectiles as bearings.
It all about rolling friction. Bearings were created to replace simple friction with rolling friction to reduce losses. To get minimum losses in rolling system you need avoid deformations that's why main bearings parts made from hardened materials to get maximum hardness. Creating bearings from munch more soft plastic fun but totally useless.
would that not be a needle bearing?
Such a missed opportunity to call it the Super Switch.
Geekbate
I'd like to see a 100hr stress test please.
Good sir could you please give me the files?
I printed and I was surprised that they worked better than I expected, or I can ask for a stl
what grease did you use?
A good use for older 3mm filament! Also use PETG for minimum friction.
get an exacto knife tip for you soldering iron, make a cleaner cut through the filament. alternative, heated wire
That was a pretty good idea. There's an STL out there of a better bering that is print in place 1 and done. I would go with that one instead of this idea that takes more work.
@@kevinlt69 Thanks! I completely agree there are some amazing PIP bearing designs out there. I made this because I needed to be able to make it small and a little more reliable. it's really hard to fdm print reliable balls or rollers small. At least in my experience 😅
Set the nozzle to zero heat and extrude out the length you want then have the head go down and to the side to snap the piece off. Repeat until you have 100 bearings.
