  • In a 1955 shiur given at the Moriah Synagogue in Manhattan, the Rav laid out the miracles behind the creation of the State of Israel. In Part 1 he discusses the role of the UN in light of the Rambam's introduction to the Peirush Hamishnayos.

Perhaps the greatest Rabbi who came to America in the twentieth century. His voice echoes from Sinai via Brisk to the Western World. Zatzal.

The word אויסגילאסען that Rav Soloveitchik mentions at 2:30, is incorrectly translated in the subtitles as "unaccomplished," when it actually means "sordid" or "sexually immoral." Similarly, at 2:51, the phrase אויסגילאסען און פארפוילטע לעבען means "a sordid and rotten (disreputable) life," rather than "a useless, easy life," as translated in the subtitles.

You should open up the possibility for people to contribute a translation. Specifically, many people would love to see Hebrew subtitles, and I'm sure some people would volunteer..

Hi David: It has been a long time since you posted this comment. I would now like to explore getting more Hebrew subtitles on to these existing videos. The process of replacing the English to Hebrew is relatively simple. If you know someone who has the time to do these translations, please write to me at ohrpublishing@gmail.com

I don't agree with his assessment that the Cold War wasn't on in 1947. It was very much on in '46, so much so that Henry Wallace was dropped from Truman's cabinet for opposing his tough stand against the Soviets. And 1948 was also the year of the Berlin Airlift.
