Thus it is so ironic that the reformers today love channukah. They are the modern day Hellenists!
Can anyone tell me the date of this drasha and the location it was given?
December 1952, likely in Boston at the Maimonides School
Very prescient indeed
Crazy to hear the Rav talk about this over 50 years ago. 9:03 "We may expect that even the western socialism or liberalism will be lined up against the Jew." He was 100% correct.
I tore Kriah at 2;42
The Rav says "if the halachah is placed EXCLUSIVELY in a historical perspective". The dagesh is on the word "exclusively".

What an amazing video. Rabbi Soloveitchik discussing Rav Kook.
According to this approach, why does the Torah instruct one to fast on the 9th of Elul if it's a day of preparation and specifically preparation by way of eating. Any why does the Gemara conclude "one who eats on the 9th it is as if he fasted"? If the whole חשיבות of the 9th is that it is a day of preparation for the fast of the 10th why is the 9th connected to fasting? If it has no חלות יום מצד עצמה, and it's whole חשיבות is הכנה then why describe it in a way which suggests parallels with the 10th rather than in way which highlights it's utility for the 10th?
The Rav's answer is that eating on the ninth (of Tishrei) is a kiyum for the tenth in the same way that the mitzvah of עונג שבת takes place through preparing food on Friday for Shabbos. The kiyum is not a Friday kiyum - it is a Shabbos kiyum - although the preparation takes place on Friday. By preparing food on Friday and by eating it on Shabbos one fulfills the Mitzvah of עונג שבת - it requires two days. The Rav does not say this, but its almost as if preparing food on Friday and eating food on Shabbos is as if he ate לכבוד שבת for two days.
B''H, Amen
I believe the rav uses the word מברר from בירור not מבער. The word בירור/separation is used in such kabalistic contexts as the rav is referring to here, to refer to man's duty to separate and elevate the good elements in the world from the mixture of good and evil.

Thank u so much !! Wish you a good and sweat new year
Very powerful. Now to internalize it.
That was the Rav’s objective in presenting his Teshuva Drashos as well as my objective in posting it
This is a MUST listen!!!! Thank you!!
I just found your channel. Thanks so much for posting this.
I can't believe this man is held in such high standing. His arguments are adolescent. No miracles took place - only deception, ethnic cleansing, and preemptive war. Bags full of money were brought to Truman for US support. Also, his recounting of the story of the Sultan and his harem, comparing it with the UN, is ludicrous. To say that both entities ended up existing only to give succor to a Jewish scholar in one instance and the emergence of the state of Israel in the other is the most outrageous chauvinistic argument on such matters I've come across.

This video has nothing really to do with the historical method of Talmud study, except in an ancillary way. It has to do with the impact of social and material phenomena on halachik rules/positions. I dont really think that most of the modern orthodox public and certainly most of the black hat public has any idea what the historical method of Talmud study is all about, other than tidbits of hearsay propoganda they once heard. They know something something Conservative, something something Lieberman, something something its ok to drive on shabbos, something something their shuls are empty save for a few members 75 and over so it shows their method is all wrong, something something mesorah, something something something something.
כצפוי, אנליזות מאלפות, מרתקות.
Phenomenal Torah knowledge, Yiras Shomayim, humility, truth and wisdom is what comes through again and again in all the Rav's talks. I can't get enough.

Thank you very much. Do you have more of his actual taped videos like the one from Yom Kippur?
The only actual videos available are the 1976 and 1979 teshuvah drashas. The entire 1979 teshuvah drasha is on this RUclips channel. Parts of 1976 appear on this channel as well.
Thanks. I appreciate your work and will continue to watch your channel as you post more amazing videos. I wonder why there is not a more organized site to buy his recorded shiurim. I am sure it would be very popular.@@ohrpublishing-videosofravs1355
@@levibrook3272 Thank you. Many of the Rav’s recordings are available on YUTorah. The Yiddish recordings are not subtitled, though.
He acted with them without judgment and at the end he showed them love by saying to them “next time we’ll eat together”.
Love your neighbor as yourself I Am Hashem. Rav Kook "of blessed memory" walked the talk.

זה כמו שיר. ומתורגם מאוד יפה. תודה רבה לכם , מאוד נהניתי זה היה מרתק. פסח שמח!
בדיוק ! כמו שירה - The Rav's drush is poetry.
Yashar Koach, very deep truth, beautiful idea and mahalach. I had read the essence of this drasha in Derashot Harav by mr Lustiger; so nice to hear it in Yiddish by Rav Soloveitchik !
So nice to hear that someone remembered this vort from my book!
It seems to me that the comparison of different text, their history and their interpretation is the most natural attitude toward ancient texts we can have. If we want to understand them in their context and depth. Their sanctity its not violated!!, I think it is expanded by our efforts to understand these text with tools that are available to us. Professor Lieberman's "Tosefta Kipshuta" is one of the best examples of Talmud scholarship.
תורה רבה לכם על זה!!!! עם זאת, המילה סיפור לא באה מהפועל ספר אלה מהפועל סיפר (אכן שתי המילים הגיעו מאותו שורש ס-פ-ר)
