- Had fun swapping out parts on the Poseidon X Ambition budget gravel bike. Almost nothing was left stock, but all upgrades were relatively budget friendly. BB, cranks, groupset, wheels, tires, thru-axle conversion kit. Yes, the cost of all the upgrades would certainly exceed the cost of the bike; this video is just for fun 😄

Poseidon lent me the bike and the groupset for a few days for testing.

People like you and Russ helped me design my custom bike. Thanks a lot!!!! Learnt a lot from you both so ended up with an all steel rim brake bike with bar end shifters and 9 speeds in 2023!!!
The new *_Sword_* is exciting. Thanks for covering brands & products that interest us "normal" cyclists. You & Russ are greatly appreciated.
Great video! its good to see a YT channel for us modest gravel riders that can not drop $5k on a rigid bike. i have a 2021 Giant Revolt 2 (USA spec) and im going to start some upgrades soon.
The shifters with the internal cable routing looks clean 👌
The Mason x Hunt wheels have some flex, especially when climbing or exerting lots of force. I had significant tire rub when I maxed out the clearance (2-3mm).
In 50 years of riding I've never had a quick release pop open.
Agree! it was actually developed for downhill riders. I'm 56 and I have arthritis everywhere. My body will break before a quick release.
Try to shop for performance non-thru-axile wheels. "progress" $;)
Never had one open but I've definitely had QR creak
@@stevenr5149any wheel with DT240s can be had with QRs
Funny story, and why I am fearful of quick release (but shouldn't be). I had gotten a Trek 900 with a quick release front wheel when I was a kid. I took my new (to me) bike to show a friend. Well, I didn't put it back on right, and on the way home I popped a wheelie on a sidwalk that was raised due to a large tree. My wheel kept going, my fork ground to a halt in the sidewalk, and one side of my face collided with the concrete and 100% of the momentum of my pudgy lil kid body came to a screeching halt. This was on the day or two before 5th grade school pictures. So, I was in my Phantom of the Opera era in that school photo with one side of my face scabbed up. Did a "bangup" job of testing out my new bike. The tree was finally cut down last year, 30 some years later, and I still curse that bump every time. I simply do a very light handlebar pull up instead of bringing the whole wheel off the ground again.
Literally my plan for my ambition X.
Gonna be goood
Got my X Ambition for Christmas and am happy so far with it. If I decide to stick with the Advent X Group-set, what would be a recommended hollow-tech BB along with a new crankset? Thanks in advance.
I’m looking to buy an ambition X, but torn between size M/L , 5’9.5 31.5ish inseam, any thoughts? I’m totally digging the bike
Lookin great. Think your chain might could use a couple more links though
Ha, eagle eye. This is in stock form, but I think any longer, and the small cog would produce a lot of chain slap.
Hi where you bought this groupset?
Toe overlap like redwood?
I didn't know you could convert from quick release to thru-axle - are the adapters very bike-specific, or is there one adaptor that will fit most bikes?
Very specific to this bike. Rear conversion is done via swappable dropouts. Front conversion is done by replacing the fork.
Interested to learn more about the thru axle conversion kit
I’ll post the video this week. Cheers!
That could have been a deal breaker for an upgrade bike. A thru axle conversion kit opens up a lot of great wheel upgrade options.
Nicely done!
I'm interested to hear what you think about the 650b swap. I'm thinking about new rims and tires on my x ambition and 650 was a constitution.
Fun factor is high. Doesn't feel as fast though. Pretty typical tradeoff for 650 vs 700
Purddy sweet .
Looking at the pavement of those roads, 650B with low pressure might be your safest bet.
When is Sword actually going to be available for sale and where can we get it? I can’t find them anywhere yet.
Sept/ oct looks like
@@TheBikeSauce oh wow thanks!
I bought a Specialized Diverge new for 1500 in 2015. Prices sure went up. Still riding it on gravel . Along with my Salsa Vaya and Trek Crockett.i only ride metal. Every carbon bike broke. After 7 I was done with expensive junk. Any bike that fits wide tires works😊
What kind of trash bikes were you buying? Tons of carbon bikes have over 100k miles on them
Dare I say a set of 42mm MAXXIS Ramblers would have been an ideal for this whip, just my personal preference…
Hey man I see you are out in California could I pay you to install upgrades on my new poseidon bike?
Reach out through the website 👍
Is sword already released?
Sort of. Officially available to consumers in Sept- Oct I believe.
Wheel choice too extreme
extreeeeeme 🤘🤘
Upgrades 🤣🤣🤣🤣 1x drive absolute crap the gaps on the sprockets are way too big wrecks legs. Big fat tyres make the bike a slug to ride. My colnago cyclocross bike with 2x 11 speed and 30mm cyclocross tyres would whip that tank
🤣🤣🤣🤣
