  • For ear wax removal, we irrigate the left ear eight times without being able to completely clear the cerumen blockage deep in the ear canal. This ear wax is lodged in tightly, requiring some home softening before trying ear cleaning again. The right ear cleared easily with a great ear wax plug removed with a curette following only two irrigations.

    I love your channel! You have a very kind bedside manner which a lot of doctors are lacking these days. What state do you practice? I have an 11 year old child and unlike my daughter, my son has never had an ear infection thank goodness!

    Is there anything at all to be done for ringing in the ears? I have had that for years and it's very unpleasant. I've always been told there's nothing that can be done to treat it. But I would love a professional medical opinion from someone I trust.

    • @auburnmedicalgroup
      @auburnmedicalgroup  7 лет назад +2

      I doctor should rule out secondary causes like carotid artery aneurysm and Meniere's Disease. Apart from those causes there is no effective treatment for ringing of the ears.

    Dr Vaughn how often do you see an ear drum like hers? It is something that is common? Also was she able to clear her ear of wax with the OTC product your recommended?

    • @auburnmedicalgroup

      Her eardrum was not terribly unusual. We have not seen her in follow - up yet.

    hot water in the ear could cause dizziness I would recommend room temp. water to avoid vertigo.

    • @auburnmedicalgroup
      @auburnmedicalgroup  7 лет назад

      Water that is too hot can cause problems, but the temperature of the fluid in the middle ear is near 98.6 degrees F (37 degrees C). If room temperature is much below that, the water temperature can cause vertigo.

    • @skiperdog
      @skiperdog 7 лет назад

      the middle ear isn't filled with fluid... that's the inner ear. The middle ear is only filled with fluid in cases of otitis media and other abnormalities. But I agree the water needs to be not too hot but not too cold, hence the room temp. suggestion. lukewarm would be another way to put it.

    • @auburnmedicalgroup
      @auburnmedicalgroup  7 лет назад +3

      You are correct. I use fairly warm water because it works better to soften the cerumen. I have never had a patient suffer vertigo when using very warm water.

    As loud as that thing is, you will be deaf by the time they get done !!

    • @auburnmedicalgroup
      @auburnmedicalgroup  7 лет назад +14

      The patient does not hear that loud sound. The patient hears the sound of water in her ear canal. It sounds loud on the video because of an audio compressor which changes the volume of everything. The water is not that loud either. The stream of water comes out of the sides of the nozzle rather than the front of it. This also protects against risk of tympanic membrane rupture which is present with other methods of irrigation.
