- Dr. Gawayne helps Diane, a patient recently recovered from Bell's Palsy, by cleaning out her ears. He uses curettage on the left ear, and both curettage and irrigation on the right ear. There is unusual pain with parts of the cleaning in the right ear because of her recent Bell's Palsy. Bell's Palsy is thought to be a swelling of the facial nerve which results in weakness or paralysis of the muscles of the right side of the face. It includes the muscles of the upper face, because it affects the nerve AFTER branches from both sides of the brain join on their way to innervate the face. Typically a stroke will only cause weakness or paralysis of the lower face, sparing the muscles that control movement of the eyebrows. Thank you to our patrons on Patreon at the $5 level and higher:

I couldn't even tell after you pointed that out! She's beautiful inside and out!
she is one happy lady ❤😊
Glad to see she's feeling better.
What a great word to use in describing a certain pain - “exquisitely” tender.
Excellent Job.....
I can really appreciate you doing this work without technology that the other doctors use
Another great video! Glad to support :)
+Tom Lehrer thanks
Get Better Soon, best wishes.
She is absolutely lovely. Hope she's doing well.
The internet needs more people like you.
Absolutely beautiful lady. Hope all is well. Much love from Minnesota
Gloves for all is all. Great job.
I'm amazed she could tolerate that on her bells palsy side. I had it 4 years ago and it's still painful at times. In the first year I couldn't even touch my ear without extreme pain.

OMG I had Bells Palsy caused by an infected tooth, it took almost 6 months to go away but it left the right side of my face a little weak
That’s awesome I need this my ears feel like clogged but I use qtip don’t get nothing and can hear a little off. Got bell palsey 10 days ago don’t better but anyone has remedy help with this clogged feeling it be much appreciated
Shes so cute! Another great video!
+KaSh4 Az thanks
Awesome
I had Bells Palsy on the right side of my face when I was 13, which resolved within a couple of months with only a residual lag. I developed it on the left side about 14 months ago, at 47, and it hasn't resolved at all. There was no pain the first time, but when it started this time, the pain around my ear and jaw was excruciating! It's so odd how differently it can affect you.
Thank you, me too!
Are u Guys ever gonna purchase one of those suction endoscopes? It would make this so much easier.
able to smile after 1 month of bell's is crazy, took me about 3-4 and still damaged a year later
Stridee what causes bell's palsy?
inflammation of a nerve on either side of your face
Kimberly and Emylia if you've ever had fever blister on the mouth or nose, that's the same virus that causes bell palsey.
I'm still kinda suffering from mini relapses of my bells palsy I had it in January
@@kittenskitten3875 My mum got it in March & it's still there a little now. It became more pronounced after she had a cataract removed. The hospital consultant said that if it lasts for 3/4 months that is about the average. A year + he considered unlucky.
Tq mam fro. India
My husband was diagnosed with Myastinia Gravismin 2016. It can be misdiagnosed. If she isn’t better, she may want to look iNto it?
My ears are not sensitive at all. In fact they itch on the inside. I'd keep telling him "more more please!" Lol
Linda Stonebraker SAME!
I’ve always worn hearing aids since I was 3, my ears itch alot on the inside, my Dr said it’s because no air gets in there because of the hearing aids
I had bells palsy for the second time this year when I had the first time my doctor didn't give me any steroids I now trigeminal neuralgia and it hurts most of the time
i have Bell's palsy I'm day 17 I have terrible ear pain and pain around ear. I'm taking pain killers but they don't work, has anyone else experienced terrible pain? I have started to see improvements is it the healing process?
I did for the first month, and I found warm compresses seemed to help a little.
Hello. I am also a Bell’s palsy patient 3 months ago..and yes, the pain you feel in affected area are good signs and part of a healing process. Stay positive. God bless you.
Why didn't you use the same method for both ears?
What were the shadows on her eardrum?
+Christie Sipes you can make out the ossicles and an area where either some cells had fallen off or impacted Ceri men had been touching and left a mark.
Christie Sipes tears
She has tears on drum should have used suction.
So Bell's Palsy can ONLY affect the right side of the face per the video? So what is it called if there is the same kind of nerve paralysis on the left side of the face?
+Pamela Schramke it only affects one side PER EPISODE.
Auburn Medical Group Thanks! I thought in the video he said it ONLY affects the right side of the face and then I was confused. Thanks for the clarification!
Bell’s Palsy can affect different parts of the face depending on what nerve is being pinched. Mine was on the right side, and after years I still have some drooping on that side...it all depends on how much the nerve was pinched and damaged. Having the paralysis on just one side is the most common. The best treatment is anti-inflammatories and lysine to help the nerve recover.
The last video I saw you on was another ear cleaning and I did leave a comment about preferring Dr. Vaughan’s style. I must say how impressed I am with the way you handled the ladies ear cleaning. Looking forward to your next video:-)
+Catherine Whiffen thanks
Its amazing that India and other countries use a camera inside the ear and instruments to clasp and remove the cerumen. But in the good ole USA with the costliest healthcare in the world we are using a squirt bottle and a bowl.
It probably has more to do with the fact that people America and other western countries tend to have soft wax which can be easily removed via irrigation whereas in places like India or China they have very dry wax that often requires tweezers to be removed.
pal98111 I agree with. McSuperfly101. In addition, here in America we tend to be more aggressive about bathing and cleanliness of our parts than in other parts of the world. Many scholars from the world say that Americans bathe too, wash hair too often etc. It’s cultures.
pal98111 only the rich in India have that ability. Cameras are only really used for viewing by an audience. There’s really no need for the ear canal.
McSuperfly this. White and black people have wet earwax so you don’t need so much intervention
I had my ear rinsed with water at a non emergency rapid care facility and they legit sent me a bill for $900
Beautiful lady 😊
Gloves?
I wish you could see more of the wax
I hope you help me my bellspalsy
Do you simply ask the doctor to clean your ears?
Nice video. Are you related to Dr. Vaughn?
+Faith O yes
I believe Dr. Gawayne Vaughn is Dr. Mark Vaughn's nephew.
обалдеть. сколько всего
"exquisitely tender" is my new profile description.
Why not use suction?
I was wondering that too. I just watched a video on that. Maybe it’s used by ear specialist doctors? Idk?
I dnt understand what these ppl expect... dnt want u to gently get it and they dnt want the water. So how do the suppose u treat it?
Posso avere una risposta in Italia?
My dad had Bell’s palsy I don’t blame the lady
This is 2021. You would think they could make a squirter that was silent.
she shoud remove her earings
I had Bell's Palsy due to an infected tooth, it's no fun, my face looked like the cartoon dog Droopy, and I had to wear an eye patch over my left eye, it took almost 6 months for my face to go back to normal.
Doc... use 2-3% H2O2 solution
How old is she
Dr. Gawayne is a hottie!
Don't objectify men ladies..
how do you know you wont harm ear drum?
Hahahah I hate wax in my ears they got it out
Wouldn't want him to get my ear wax out
Is it just me or does everyone else feel him scraping the wax from their ears as you watch it. My ear always itch when I watch these video.
Use the sering with a plastic tip COMES OUT QUICKLY I HATE THIS THING TAKES TO LONG
Spoke
I think she's pretty just the way she is to me I don't see nothing wrong with her and I hope everything goes well she gets rid of that nasty naughty earwax
You didn’t have to say what the lady had wrong with her
Hadeuch
😂😂😂😂 a stroke
Did you seriously just use a water pik to clean her ear??? I'd think the pressure would be on the high side for an eardrum, but I'm no doctor either - just going on how it feels when flossing with it.
just asked Dr. Mark the same question the other day. It is a Water Pik but it has a special attachment that is folr cleaning ears. It probably comes from a medical supply house. I would venture to say that the particular Water Pik that is used for cleaning ears at Auburn Medical is only used for that purpose.
+His Sibling that is correct. The attachment and the tip are both modified for use in cleaning ears with studies proving both efficacy and safety, even in children.
I hate wax
France Italy monty Carlos serenade
You was just so harsh no wonder she had pain
