This is the easiest fix you will ever do on a major appliance! Almost paid $1,000 for a new washer. Glad I came across this video.
This worked exactly as he showed! My repair quote was $560 and I spent $60 plus a half hour of my time! I'm ecstatic!!
That’s an insane price quote. 300 job tops
Because of this video, I fixed my first and only washer and didn’t have to buy a new one. It works perfectly again. Thank you so much.
This worked perfectly. I found when searching for replacement rods that the original parts are now to be replaced by new ones with thicker metal, so make sure you buy the newer one, not the original. Also, if you've had the recall repair done, you need to lift from the back and slide forward to get the top off.
Glad we could help! And thanks for that tip.
I didn't spend one single penny on this. This was a great tutorial! I removed the support rods, one at a time, degreased them, dried them and sprayed white lithium on the places where you showed. It works like new and saved me $$$$$. This would be a lot easier if I wasn't working in a cramped pantry and had an extra set of hands, but for 1hour and 15 minutes of work, it's no longer a problem. Thank you!
Sweet!
This video was extremely helpful. I have one thing to add. My particular version of this machine has two screws in the front and not two clips. 1:50 2:09
They are hidden by two rubber plugs in about the same locations as the clips.
Our videos are to give the viewer a general overview of the repair, of course some slight differences will occur model to model. But thank you for the comment as it will be helpful to future viewers.
Thank you! I just changed out all 4 rods and I can definitely say I could not have done it without this video
I added foam around the drum but NO fix, so i ordered Support Rods quality of 4 (part # DC97-16350C) from this site and they were delivered in 3 days . 15 minuts to replace all and it works fine so far since this morning No repeat wash or error code CD.
thank you for this video . happy WIFE happy life.
+jesse Boy Thanks for the order, glad the washer is up and running!
It took me 15 min to open and replace my rods in my machine. Machine is back to normal....thanks.
yay! I couldn't get through a load big or small without the DC error. After 2 years my suspension rods were weak. Once I saw this video I ordered the parts from Appliance Part Pros. They arrived on time and the repair was a breeze. In 30 mins I was washing clothes again!
Thanks for the order and glad you got the washer fixed up!
This video was outstanding. I ordered the parts on Thursday evening around 1800 and they were delivered to my door Saturday afternoon. I was shocked how fast they came. Replacement was a breeze and took less than 30 minutes. I have done several loads since and the problem of an unbalanced load has been fixed. Thanks again.
+Wayne Golliday Awesome, glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
+AppliancePartsPros The video not only helped but I am still impressed how fast the parts got to me. It was less than 36 hours.
+Wayne Golliday Thanks for the order and it is great you got the parts so fast!
Fantastic fix. Worked like a charm. Here is hoping washer lasts for another 6 years before any other maintenance as this was certainly fast but not cheap. Thanks for the DIY video and the parts.
Thank you for this video. I had the same issue. I called Geek Squad because I had bought my washer and dryer from Best Buy. Well apparently when I bought it , I didn't click to buy the warranty. So I had to fix it. I called a local repair man that told me each replacement rod was going to cost me $125 a piece. Total for them to fix it would be $842. I told them I wasnt going to pay that to fix a washer. It would probably just be cheaper to buy a new washer. I did a little research and found some new rods for under $100 for all 4. My 17 year old helped me put them in. It took us a total of 19 minutes to change them out. Your video was straight to the point.
I ordered the suspension support rods and these parts came via FedEx in 2 days. I ordered all 4 rods. when I inspected them only one of the old rods was visibly bent, but it's probably like replacing one brake pad if you just do one. I purchased a small tube of waterproof grease at Lowe's for $3.50 and I was able to install the rods in about 20 minutes. I recommend getting so garden wire to hold the back of your top onto the washer and using a 2 foot board to prop the front of the top up while you work. Easy job for someone who is not at all mechanical. Thank you AppliancePartPros!
Glad the video helped you out!
This was so easy to fix. Saved me from having to buy a new washer. Thank you.
Thank you, I was so stressed about my washer not working anymore. You helped me fix it today, thank you again!!
Ordered all four rods and they were delivered in less than 24 hrs. Awesome job! Changed them out this morning. Wish I had read the comment about wearing gloves. 20 minute job.
Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
Thank you so much! Never thought I'd be able to fix my washer but $30 and 15 minutes later its working like a charm!
You're welcome!
Great video, thank you for totally solving my constant unbalancing problem! No more DC error for me! You saved me so much money, I was going to buy a whole new washer, out of frustration. Thanks again! One less thing to stress about.
Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
Juan Campa is your fix still working? I am just wondering what the difference is in this rod and spring and the original ones. They look very similar
Hands Down; Best instructional on I have seen . ( i've seen many)
Worked perfectly, fixed and good to go in less than 15 minutes. So easy a Caveman can do it!
Great video, thank you. Just changed all 4 suspension rods in my Samsung. Video helped a lot and made it quite easy. No more off balance/DC error codes.
Happy to help!
Great video, made the job much easier. WARNING: Our Samsung WA5471ABW was subject to recall and was retrofitted to resolve danger of the lid flying off. It turns out that Samsung's solution didn't address the shaking itself, but consisted of bolting the lid to the case internally, so you can't just push the clips and pop the lid anymore. There were two bolts placed diagonally from each other, I got to one by taking the back off, and the other by pushing the drum to the side, added an hour to the 30 minute job. On the bright side, the suspension rods solved the balance issue perfectly!
My 2 year old Samsung Washer started doing the DC fault when in the spin cycle. The appliance repair guy estimated a $300 fix! After finding this vid, I ordered the 4 suspension rods from the attached link. Opening the washer for repair was a snap. My initial observation showed that the front left side rod was completely rusted from top to bottom. Found that the bleach receptacle adjacent to this rod was ‘splashing’ bleach all over it, thus the rust. Took awhile to remove the rust from the upper mount. Mounting the other rods took just a few minutes. After running several heavy loads, not one default. I was obviously thrilled. A big thumbs up for Appliance Parts for the video and the two day parts delivery....Lesson learned, use a no splash bleach and I think it will prevent future corrosion damage.
+flordian Glad the video helped you get the suspension fixed!
I just did mine, and found the same: front left was totally rusted. One other was a little rusted. Other two seemed totally fine. The ring of paint around my bleach cup is rusty too, but that's our fault for splashing when pouring I guess.
$300.00 is a reasonable price for the fix.
Couldn't agree more with previous comments. Our Samsung washer was closer to 3 years old and couldn't finish a big or small load. We continued to get the dc error code. Parts were in stock and came when promised. The fix was as easy as shown in the video and the problem is gone. Saved myself a couple hundred easily had we used an appliance repair service. Thanks!
Glad the video helped you get the washer repaired!
Thank you for this video! My model had screws on the front though.
This was so easy! And, it was exactly as the video showed. Thank you! We just saved, at least, $500!
We switched these out and my washer finally worked. Popping open the lid was the toughest part. This fix only took 15 minutes max. 👍🏼
That's great! Glad we were able to help you get your appliance repaired.
Price on rods?
@@kirkir6990 Mine were $46 each. I replaced all 4.
I just installed the four rods, per your instructions. Samsung sent someone in to work on the washer since it is on the recall list. They only put catches on the top to prevent the top from flying off. They never even bothered to change the parts that could cause that! My washer uses the 16350E rods. The tech said I would have trouble getting the top off. Not really. I just had to undo the two back screws and push the top forward to get it off the new hooks. Your video was spot on and I am so grateful to "Uncle Google" for sending me to your site. I will be happy to recommend you folks to others, for parts and this video. Great work!
Amazing that this actually worked. Can't believe that after 3 years you would have to change the rods but anyways thanks for the video it saved me about 300 dollars. Machine works perfect.
You're welcome. Glad we could help!
Woohoo!!!!!!!!! I ordered the parts from your company and they came in a couple of days!!! I replaced all 4 rods and releveled the feet and did a recalibration. The machine works as good as new and saved me from having to buy a new machine!!! Thanks! Just a warning...The old suspension rods had this black REALLY STICKY crap on them and it was a mess on the first one. After the first one, I put on some rubber gloves. Wear gloves or you'll be sorry.
Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed up!
Just a fancy way of saying used a bubble level to balance the machine while adjusting the feet and doing a test wash with 6lbs of laundry.
Thank you for the great video. The job took hardly any time and went perfectly. I will add this, wear throwaway gloves because the existing grease on the old rods is the nastiest stuff I’ve ever experienced.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! OMG did this work! I tried (while waiting for the 4 NEW struts/shock absorbers to arrive) placing foam around the tub. No dice. New parts came in. took out old 1 at a time, put in new . . . . Ya BOI! Advice: WEAR RUBBER GLOVES WHEN DOING THIS, THE FACTORY LUBRICANT IS A PITA TO REMOVE FROM YOUR SKIN. YOU CAN DO IT.
Awesome, glad to see you got the washer up and running!
Appliance Parts Pros....thank thank thank thank thank thank you so so so much for this video! Saved us hundreds of dollars in a new washer and taught this learn how to do it yourself girl a new skill!!! You guys rock!!
You're welcome, Elizabeth! We're here to help DIYers like yourself, so we're glad we could help you get your washer running again!
Thank you for doing this. Replacing the support rods fixed the non-stop UE error we were receiving. I now have a happy wife and a happy life! :-)
Thanks for making this available. Was super easy!
Thank you for this video. My 3 year old Samsung was going off balance and this seems to have fixed it. One note - my washer was part of the recall and Samsung sent someone to reinforce the top. After taking out the three screws in the back and popping the clips in the front as shown in this video, I was unable to lift the top straight up - I had to lift the top up, pull it forward, and then lift up.
You're welcome! We're always happy to help DIY-ers fix their appliances. And thanks for that tip about the disassembly of that washer post-recall, it does change things a little!
Fantastic!! Easy, clear instrux. Thank you!
Thanks for the great how-to video! My first time changing the rods went quick and easy
You are very welcome! If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
Excellent video, I have a similar model and this seems simple enough I should be able to attempt it on my Samsung washer.
Thank you for this wonderful video.I ordered the rods and in the meantime I dismantled the top to have that first step done.Thank you.
You are very welcome. Good luck with your repair! If there is anything we can help you out with please let us know. Let us know how your repair goes as well.
On august 26 2023 watched video on Samsung top load washer how to fix suspension. Didn’t find clips in front instead found some soft white rubber insert under lid, there were 2 screws that held the top down. Went and tried to identify yr but it had k then a 8 guess 2018 , could not find k on Samsung yr list for identification. Rest of video was spot on used yr videos in past were a big help ,
If we can help you with anything please let us know.
Exactly the info I need - TYVM
Thank you so much for this video! Helped us make our repair so easy! Again thank you!! Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Just changed all four struts this evening. Very easy job. I hope it's ok that I used white lithium spray lube. Btw, very fast shipping from you guys!!!
Thanks for the order and glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
It took me 15 min to open and replace my rods in my machine. Machine is back to normal....thanks.
Glad we could help you get your washer back to washing!
Just want to say thanks for the video! It was very helpful and informative. Washer was getting DC code every single time we used it. Ordered and replaced all 4 rods after watching this video, total time took about 20 minutes or so.
Thanks again AppliancePartsPro!
Thanks for the order! Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed.
So your video is the number one video for this replacement. Just a share for the ppl who dig far enough . My Samsung . Did not have front clips or hidden screw holes . It only has SIDE. Clips . You do have to unplug alot of the hardware in the back panel or the hoses and electrical wires may get wrecked . Loosen all that stuff before releasing the side clips then you push it forward to get the top to essentially unlock from the front . Everything else in the video is the same . I have model WA40J3000AW/A2
Thank you for sharing!
What was your model number?
Thank you! Worked great. I think I will keep my day job though😊
Worked perfect no more off balance
+Eva Warren Awesome, glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
Great explanation! Tysm for the clean and clear walk through!
You are welcome! If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
Thank you, so much for this! I watched it twice ("measure twice, cut once") got the parts - including some Mechanix gloves ;) - and had it done and in testing mode in about 25 minutes. Awesome. The only difference is that there were two "curved" pins on the sides of the machine holding the top on which initially threw me off. However, after a little review ... no problem! Appreciate this series greatly.
You're welcome! Glad we could help.
Hello Mr. Heitman. I need your help. How did you remove the 2 CURVED pins or how do you remove the cover with the 2 pins there? Thank you
@@vishalmacwan3685 Wow ... it has been awhile. :) Do you have a photo you can send me of your current situation? Perhaps that will allow me to remember. I am rewatching the video in case that jogs my memory.
How do you want me to send the pic?
@@vishalmacwan3685 Ok. Grabbed some tape , glove and a scraper to pop the lid. The "curved" pins are towards the front of the machine on either side. You have to gently pry at those points (as well as the front) to start removing the lid, and then "wiggle" (highly technical) the lid in the proper direction to bring the lid off in the direction the curved pins dictate. I believe once you can see them, what I am trying to explain will be clearer. Make sure and protect your hands, as it takes some patience and would be easy to catch a finger or two.
Great video, saved me a lot of money
Thank you. Because of this video I was able to save almost $300
I've had this washer just sitting for years. I used my old one because it still worked. Now, two years later I just spent 2 grand on a new Maytag set... I wish I had seen this video 2 years ago. Now my new one's about to be delivered and I still have my 10+ year old one and a Samsung that needs a $19 part that takes ten minutes to replace...
Changed all 4 rods. Last one was the right rear. That was bent in the middle. I probably could have fixed it by straightening in a vise. But I think the real problem started with the lithium grease fittings. All four cups at the top were dried hard and sticky. If I'd cleaned them up and applied new grease when the problem first started it may have kept the one rod from bending. Anyway it was an easy fix with the new rods. I just cleaned out the old cup fittings and liberally applied the grease as shown in the video. I'll put this on my household maintenance list to check every couple of years.
Glad the video helped you get the suspension fixed!
Beautiful video and explanation! Love it
I tried to adjust the already worn out springs through the bottom to make it stiffer. But after a couple washes it went back to being wobbly. Thanks for the help boss
You are welcome. If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
Thank you for posting very helpful
You're welcome!
You are freaking awesome !!!!! Thanks from Miss Terry's Mobile Appliance Repair in Cabot Arkansas !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the compliment, Terry! Glad we could help.
401WA400PJHDWR/AA top load washer electric samsung. It is HE and the basket is suspended by these rods, had to replace a 2nd time in 5 years. These worked and no issues. Super easy to replace, note if you got the lid fix from samsung, remember the top goes off by pulling to the front and up and not as easy as in the video.
Well done, concise video. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Thanx 4 the tipz, the fix went ez!
Mine had two Philips screws holding the front of the lid down. Under the rubber bumpers. I nearly cut them off with my puddy knife. Otherwise it went well. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing your discovery regarding the screws! It really helps!!!
Worked perfect. Thanks!!
Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
You are a legend thank you!!
Our washer sucks dang it even told the wife not to get it smh. Sure we need all four s rods. Least there easy the work on. No labor costs for this fam. Great video
Glad we could help with your repair!
On my model wa45t3200, the front of the washer top was held by two screws located at front and concealed/protected by rubber plugs...no prying required.
Thanks this was soooooo easy to do😁😁😁
Unless the spring is precompressed a little before the top is attache maybe? I always assumed the springs just lose tension from use and or overloading.
You might also want to spin the tub back and forth when its empty and listen for water in the upper sealed part of the tub. I found one in the neighbors trash and it wouldn't spin empty. The water was building up in offset pockets. I truly believe this was the major flaw, the seal had developed tiny leaks in the seam allowing water to gradually enter the upper rim of the tub. I just drilled holes evenly all the way around the upper tub and allowed the water to drain. I also left them open so that water can't get back in and stay as before. The tub being so off balance wore the rods out or weakened the springs so I removed the springs heated them with a torch and stretched them and then put them into a cold water bucket to "harden" the metal and I have a perfectly working $1000 washer. at 0 cost and just a few hours of my time to determine the issue.
Thanks for that tip! Good job getting that washer back in working order and keeping it out of the landfill. Often times, appliances just need some repairs, they're not dead yet. :)
Lol sounds like you drilled out the water in the balancing ring, intentionally put there to balance the drum during spin cycle by factory.
Great job 👍🏻
Well done job!!! 👍🏽 Very good information 👍🏽
Thanks, hope the video helped you get the washer fixed!
+AppliancePartsPros yes I got it fixed thanks to you guys good job great information
Great video overall Sir.
Some models have hidden screws in front top of washer under white covers……. Frustrating until you find them!1. Good video.
Glad you enjoyed!
Nice video very informative
Thanks for your help
You're welcome!
I feel like this is what I need to do with my washer but something that I cant seem to find is how to tell when the suspension support rods need to be replaced. How can you tell that you need new ones? Am I looked for damage on a specific area of the rod or bushing? Am I looking for some telltale sign with the spring on the bottom?
When you start to have your washer turn off or restart the spin cycle due to consistent load shifting during the spin cycle, it’s time.
Was really helpful thanks u guys at whirlpool
We here at AppliancePartsPros are happy the video was able to help you.
The guys at whirlpool came up with this bad idea. They should replace the parts for free.
How do you know if your Samsung has these newer updated suspension rods installed from the factory?
My 7 year old Samsung washer kept throwing itself off balance and giving the DC code. I ended up ordering the suspension rods all 4 and replacing them myself. My washer is one of the ones that had the safety recall because of the lid potentially coming of. That was the trickiest part getting the lid off. I got behind it and my son in the front . I pushed it forward and we managed to get it off. So it not quite as simple as the video but possible.
Great video , I'm going to save some$$$$$$
so nice video but how i know on of damper not working properly?
Just did our washer. It's been pretty picky for a few years now. So long as you have all similarly heavy things it'll go just fine but a little off and you get the DC error constantly.
Easy to replace, out washer is different, wa5451, but extremely similar. These parts upset me though, they seem rather unsophisticated for their price tag. No wonder they don't last...
Hi i would like to find out, I have a Samsung top load washer it's 2 1/2 years old, if the suspension rods had been changed, when the machine is in wash mode should the barrel still be dancing around?? Thanks for any advice
What effect, if any, does it have on the spring's ability to work if the top is comes loose? By top I mean the white plastic like cup/holder on top of the bottom spring. Since the weight is pushing down, I can't really see where this would affect the function of the spring.
Thanks for the video, What size is your suspension rod.?
oh dear. this video is very good but I know I'm going to screw up somewhere! 😞 however I have a cabrio. hopefully, it'll be about the same.
+Alexis Yaj With out your model number I cannot say if this is the right kit, but here is an example of a Whirlpool washer: ruclips.net/video/-Hnnda0FwKo/видео.html
The black stuff on the springs is not lubricant. It is vibration damping solution. One way to test the springs is to compress them and release. If the spring returns to its initial position reasonably fast, then the vibration damping solution has leaked out. If the spring returns to initial position slowly under some friction, then the suspension system is working properly. You could probably try to add some non-hardening (gasket) sealant. However, this would be time consuming and may not meet specifications. Therefore, if the vibration damping solution has leaked out, it is best to replace all 4- washer suspension support rods - and make your wife happy you fixed the washer for ~$100.
Thanks for that tip.
I've replaced the four Suspension Rods with the 'New Improved Version Rods. The machine still goes out of balance! But if I put the machine in 'Manual Spin' mode with the same load, it spins up and works fine 'almost all the times'. So is it the 'spin-up to speed' the problem, also?
Thanks for this well explained task. my problem is how to identify or check whether the Suspension Rod is damaged or not .
My washer model is WA80U3 Samsung top Loading and also i cant get/find the complete pump set. Please Help Thanks
If you need help finding a part please give us a call: 1-877-477-7278.
Is this suspension rod model in your title universal to all samsung washers?
Also is this one more thicker thus durable than the orig?
I don't have the error code problem but own a WA48J7770AW washer that has been recalled due to them exploding. Samsung's fix only beefs up the way the top is secured but doesn't address to the cause. The support rods might be at fault. Is there an improved design I should replace my rods with?
My washer was fixed during the recall for the exploding top. Makes it a pain to get the top off. You have to lift from the back and slide the top forward an inch before it comes off.
Our Samsung had two screws holding top on in front,no clips. Rest was easy. Parts were about $40. Quote was for $500 -$600.
Thanks for the video. Easy to follow along. I purchased the rods and installed them exactly as you show. For some reason the washer will not turn back on now. Any ideas?
You do have power coming your machine? You did plug it back in? Did the breaker get flipped by chance?
Thank you for responding. I tried to respond to your question about model no but it wouldn’t let me send any more messages. I ended up purchasing a new machine after damaging the unit in my attempt to fix.
This video is outstanding. I feel confident that I could perform the repair. However, How can you best identify which Support Rod needs replacing? My Samsung WA456DRHDSU/AA Top loader becomes unbalanced on every load, and I have been struggling with it for almost a month. And I'm pretty sure I need to replace one of the foams pads on the right hand side as well. Do y'all have a video for that?
+Sean Douglas Most people change them out as a set. Sometimes there is not one that is noticeably bad, but they are all weak.
i think i should try this I'm having a issue with balanced loads even when all I have in there is a shirt it still bounces back and forth.
I watched this video just for his hair.
👍😆
Thanks alot
Thank. YOU!
I never knew Napolean Dynamite fixed washers:) jk Thanks so much ! Great video
Thank you! Glad the video was able to assist you.
