I'm only 36 and I feel comfortable saying they don't make things like they use to. I grew up with a washer and dryer that was made the same year I was born. I visited home four years ago and they were both still in service. my wife's 2 year old samsung washer is needing this repair
Thank you so much! My washer was going out of balance with loud bangs, wouldn't always finish spinning. I had a repair man come out and told me it was the transmission and said it couldn't be fixed. He recommended I buy a Speed Queen. I am a DIYer. With some research, I came across your video. I ordered suspension rods for my Samsung washer from you, followed the directions in your video and my washer now runs like brand new! Not realizing it, my daughter was overloading my washer and one of the suspension rods were broken - that was the hardest one to get out and replace, so I needed the help from my neighbor. I had to order the 28" long rods for my washer. My rods did not come with the gloves so I bought a pair from Walmart for a couple of dollars. You were right about using gloves. They were greasy. Again, thank you!!!
I rarely comment on RUclips videos, but I had to say thank you for saving me $100+ on a service call PLUS whatever it would have cost a professional to fix it. In addition, I just wanted to say that replacing these rods also fixes the issue of the washer running water on the spin cycle. Apparently, the washer's computer will think the load is unbalanced if your rods are worn, and it's then programmed to add water to attempt to balance it out. My wife noticed our washer was doing that, and this replacement fixed the issue! Thanks again!
Replaced these rods today with guidance from your video and my 89 year old mother holding a flashlight (it was her machine)! So far so good! We thank you!
Is it still working right? I keep reading how aftermarket suspension rods (no matter the manufacturer) work great for a couple months then the same problem reoccurs. I’m about to do this repair and am curious of your experience. Thanks :)
I purchased the Lorain kit for our, continuously failing out-of-balance Samsung (AAARRRRGHHH), and YES, it WORKS! Took me about 10 minutes, total, to change out the rods (if that) and we were throwing clothes in it and walking away with no more worries. Thank you, Lorain! YAY!
Thank you so much! I put in an order for replacement rods on your website, and they were on my porch the very next day!! Absolutely incredible-that’s better than Amazon! The washer is now on its second load, running perfectly. Such an easy replacement too… All of these overwhelmingly positive comments almost made it feel like a scam, haha, but it’s definitely well deserved.
Thanks for this tutorial video! Saved $300 on repairs by doing it myself:) Got off the market rods at $27 for the set in EBay and it works like a charm! 😊
I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!! I bought one of these washing machines from a restore because a rich woman didn't like it when they delivered it to her house. So she bought a completely different one and let it sit in her basement for 10 years. When I bought it from the restore it had a broken foot, and at the time I didn't have the money to even replace that. Since I owned it I have had issues with it spinning, and this model will restart the wash cycle each and every time that it goes unbalanced. I was going to have to buy a brand new washer I could not get it to complete a load. I don't even remember how I came across your video, I don't even remember what I put in the search bar. But I bought the parts and I just fixed it today and it is running better than it has ever ever ran for me. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, this fixed the problem! My washer had 2 front screws under the washer lid that have white rubber plugs covering them. Pop off the plugs and remove the 2 screws. There are 2 more screws under the control panel assembly. Get that assembly loose and lift it out of the way. Remove the 2 screws. Now the top of the washer will be free. Then lift up the top of the washer and move it around to get to the suspension rods.
Ouuuuiiii!!! I have watched a few other videos before finding yours. I'm a DIY girly but i was a bit apprehensive about removing the screws until I found your video. All the others removed like 10 screws. Thank you soooo much for making me feel better because I'm definitely ordering the rods today and installing them myself. You are an absolute life saver 🙌🏾
So one of the ladies commenting said, if it wasn’t for you guys on RUclips… Can I just “amen” that… we as well don’t know what we would’ve done. If it wasn’t for this video, it turned out that our machine wasn’t the exact same model, but if we had never seen this video, I’m sure we would’ve failed. Thank you so much!
This video help out a tons! Was able to replace the rods and in the process disconnect the pressure line., which water went everywhere when I ran the washers. So I went back and watched the entire video and it clearly says “ be careful and not disconnect the pressure line” so I new exactly what I had did. Opened the back of the washer and connected the line and the washer ran like new. Thank you.
100% spot on!!! I knew my out of balance issue was the same as all 9f the others whom were complaining about the same thing, so I took a gamble, and was thankfully surprised! This repair went just as simple as they show here 9n the video, with one minor difference. The two "latches" on the front, did not release with a spatula, as in the video, because my model actually was held 8n place by two screws....lol....I was about to get a hammer, when my brother in law stopped by and caught my error... The two screws were hidden under plastic cover tabs. After that, 20 mins later, bam!!!
As a 31 year old woman with a handful of tools and limited knowledge on how to repair an appliance I am so grateful for your video! Saved me from breaking down and buying an entire new machine! Thanks!
Thank you so much! Saved me so much money. It was so easy to do. About $43 and 30 minutes. Worked like a charm. No more codes and the spin cycle finishes!!! :D
To anyone having this issue with unbalanced load even after changing the rods, I would suggest checking the nut on the drum underneath the machine for looseness. If it's not loose, remove the pulsator plate inside the tub and check the drum nut. Mine was cracked and a piece got caught in the water pump so it wouldn't drain. After I cleared the pump, the unbalanced load issue started. My rods seemed to be good so I didn't bother changing them. I replaced the nut, recalibrated the machine and she's running good, for now.
I just want to thank you for you very informative but simple repair video. It was a fairly easy repair… I can’t believe the pool noodles and the pillow repairs… they were entertaining to say the least. I can’t believe that they even posted them… I guess everyone needs their 15 minutes of fame or in this case shame … My husband and I make a great repair team and we had it finished in I think under 20 minutes. Not including the cleanup. You saved us a service call and that in itself is fantabulous! You are a true professional! Thank you, again.
I am a 27 year old woman and my brother and I fixed our 11 year old Samsung washer today using your video. You saved us from buying a new machine. Thank you 🫡
One of the best how to videos I’ve seen. Very thorough and you covered all the “ little things “ that aren’t a big deal as long as you know about it but for people that have never done this type of work those things are important like the pressure hose tip you put in there I can only imagine how many people you saved from having to take the washer apart several times lol. Much appreciated
Just wanted to say TY. I ordered replacement balance rods and followed your instruction. Other then taking the lid off was different, I was able to fix and it works perfectly. Also save a good amount of money by not having Sears come out to fix it. Great video.
Perfect. Thank you for a thorough, accurate, straightforward video. My model is different than the one in the video, but everything was the same except the brackets in the back were a little different. The tip about the spatula was especially helpful. I would not have known how to release the retaining clips. Also, there was a lot more grease than I anticipated, so the gloves is a great idea. You really helped me out with this - the entire process was about 20 minutes.
Thank you for this video. Saved me several hundred dollars. Ran 4 loads and finally worked correctly. I just took off the back panel just to make sure it all fit right.
Thank you for this diy video! I know i have saved some money instead of calling a technician for diagnostics and repair. My Samsung washer is working now again.
The whole job took maybe 20 minutes. Definitely need gloves. And where he said there are clips in the front. My model had two little rubber plugs that you pop out and there were two screws in the front instead of clips. Fantastic video saved me hundreds thank you!
Great video thanks! I recall when the washer was only a few months old we got an e mail from Samsung saying they were sending someone to do an in home warranty fix for the same issue. Seems like good brand business right? Not so much, they knew it was always an issue. They just want the trash to last til the warranty is up!
I purchased the DC97-16350C Rods kit from Lorain Furniture. The installation process was relatively easy and tool about 30 minutes. And I am pleased to say that it completely solved my imbalance problem. So if you have this imbalance problem, purchase the rod set and follow the step my step procedure. You will not be sorry.
@@iloveCrossCountry4it causes the machine to illuminate an imbalance load every time it tries to spin cycle. No matter how you adjust the load, it still stops and beeps imbalanced load.
Thanks man. Your diagnosis matched my issues perfectly. I ordered the parts and did the repair. It’s washing now. Fingers crossed 🤞. Great video, explanation and tips. Really appreciate it. Blessings to you and yours.
Thanks so much! The replacement rods solved this exact problem! Rookie mistake--I first put two of them in WITH THE SPRING ASSEMBLY ABOVE THE LOWER SLOT INSTEAD OF BELOW IT. Once I figured out my mistake it was quite easy. Also--it's possible (with help) to tip the washer back and get at the lower clip from below. It probably also helped that I leveled the washer afterwards. which had never been done.
great video but i just did mine and i would recommend taking the back off as well. its not hard and it will save you frustration. those 2 in the back are hard to get to. mine has a wire on the left rear corner going to the pump and i broke it trying to change the rod. i then realized how much access there was after taking the back off. fixed the wire and it runs great now. thanks.
Thanks so much for this video, it got my washer back up and running again. One note, my model of Samsung washer did not have the retaining clips. Instead, it had two screws hiding under the little rubber pieces that were keeping the front attached. So if you can't find the clips, you may have something similar. Thanks again!
Thank you. My model was alittle different and had screws instead of clips. Replaced the rods in about a half hour. I did grease parts though where my machine felt like it had grease prior. Starting first load after repair…….fingers crossed!!!
Hello! I just want to say thank you for your advice and the way you explained made it easy to fix the repair...that was very helpful and saved me some money. I really appreciate your time and true knowledge!!
Thank you so much for the video. Excellent instructions. It took me an hour or so to replace them and it is working great. Now...any suggestions on my Samsung dryer riipping up clothes? Ah well, I do appreciate your work.
I just found this DIY video thanks! Our machine has been suffering from OOB for a while and it is frustrating that it resets and tries to refill in order to rebalance itself! What a waste of water! Why do the rods need replacing? Do the springs stretch or is there something that breaks? It wasn't clear on your video. Any help will be appreciated as I like to know the "why" rather than just the "how"!
The suspension rods are still holding up in my 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII washer and about the only thing that needs to be done to them is to coat them with POR15 and paint them with gray spray paint and that’s it. Can’t complain about doing something that simple to something that’s from 1963.
I replaced the rods on my washer and it works perfectly. Some machines have screws instead of clips securing the top front. They are underneath rubber plugs which are visible when you lift the lid.
Thank you so very much! I just finished this repair, and while I don't yet know if it solved the problem, the fact that I was confident enough to try alone is HUGE in my world. One thing I would add is a caution about the little metal tabs sticking up an inch or so to the outside of the clips. I kept hitting them and was, of course, getting nowhere.
Would replacing the suspension rods fix this problem? When I start a load, my Samsung washer fills up with water, agitates maybe a minute or two, then immediately drains the water out of it and shuts off. I don't know if the washer thinks it's unbalanced (because the suspension rods need replacing possibly?), or if there's something much more FUBAR going on. Thanks for any ideas on what to try/repair! If it IS the suspension rods that are faulty, your video is quite clear on how to replace them, so thank you very much for doing it.
Hey there. What would I be looking for when inspecting current rods to tell me they need to be replaced? Or is the replacement done in hopes this is fixing the unbalanced code?
I just replaced the suspension rods and still had an issue but not as bad. Saw another video about calibrating the machine, after calibrating ZERO issues!! Turn the washer on and press TEMP + DELAY END for about 3 seconds, once you see CB hit start then wait about 2 minutes and let it do its thing.
AMAZING video…quick question…I forgot to put the clamp back on right before I put the top back on. We started running a load to test it out, will that hurt anything until I’m able to get the top back off and put the clamp on?
Well, watched your video, replaced the rods and def fixed the balance problem but I’m still leaking water from right side about middle way. D we’ve removed the entire back, and no hoses disconnected. Water not leaking from pump. Even turned machine in side so we could see bottom of machine and did not see anything (of course, we don’t know what we’re really looking for) Do you have any suggestions on what this could possibly be? Appreciate any help!!
Any additional recommendations? I'm at whits end with my Samsung washer. I've replaced the suspension rods and it still does the same exact thing. If I had the money, I would get rid of this piece of junk.
I didn't replace my rods because they seemed to still be good. My problem was the drum nut inside being cracked. I would 1st check the nut on the bottom of the drum on the underside of the machine for looseness. If it's not loose, remove the pulsator plate inside the tub and check the drum nut. I had to replace mine (30 bucks on Amazon). Hope this helps
Thank you! Ordered the parts on Amazon and once they arrived, it took about 20 minutes to remove and replace the stabilizer rods. Washer stays in balance now.
Just purchased the Samsung washer model WA50M7450AW from Costco for $499. Just wondering if it was good purchase before my return window runs out? And recommendations for a great reliable impeller washer? Thank you.
Thanks for the great video and at least now I know how to fix it. And, I don't want to be obtuse here but why, are we the customers paying for and repairing machines with a major design flaw? A design flaw that Samsung should have addressed in the first place?
Heads up for model wa45n3050aw/a4...there are also two screws up front before you pop the tabs! They are under rubber plugs. Took me a while before I realized that myself.
My washer had two screws in the front on the top section as well holding it down. So instead of being able to use a putty knife to pry it up, I had to remove some small white padding that hides the screws. Probably bent some metal trying to get the top off before I realized that.
I removed the rods one at a time and measured the springs. All were around 4 inches in length, so I stretched them all to 5 inches. Next open the plastic cover with the foam insert, take it out and cut 2 pieces of zip tie the same length, yours may need more. Insert the zip tie pieces between the foam and the plastic cover increasing the pressure on the metal rod.
Great video, I just wish you would’ve shown what a bad rod looks like. I hate to replace something that’s not broke to them look for a different problem
Mine was part of a recall and the wife had a Samsung tech install 4 bolts to secure the top from launching and killing someone. I had no idea they did that and a repair guy who came to replace the suspension springs was just as surprised after he struggled for a good half hour trying to release the top.

Thank you! You don’t understand how much I appreciate this video.
Thank you so much for the video. Excellent instructions. It took me an hour or so to replace them and it is working great. Now...any suggestions on my Samsung dryer riipping up clothes? Ah well, I do appreciate your work.
Thank you so much for your video! I was able to replace the rods and my machine works great now!
Thank you for uploading this video it was very easy for me to do this repair you saved me a lot of money 💰thanks again
My wife love's me even more because I was able to repair her washer machine thanks to this video
Work EXACTLY as he said. A $50 solution and some elbow grease instead of $800 plus for a new washer.
Sean when your machine was built it was built with U.S.steel. That is why your machine's suspension rods are still holding the superstructure up.
Thank you so much for making this great video. Seriously, you are great at making instructional videos!
I replaced the rods on my washer and it works perfectly. Some machines have screws instead of clips securing the top front. They are underneath rubber plugs which are visible when you lift the lid.
Thanks for Your great post. Fixed my washer Off Balance. Sent You a couple ($2x2) Super Thanks
amazing video, did this in no time because of it, thank you so much
Thank you! Easiest fix!
Thanks for the info… did the change myself and worked like a charm
Thanks for the detailed DIY
Is there a way to know that the suspension rods are bad?
Any tips for someone who is struggling to get the top off? Cant get the front clips to unlatch.
Had mine replaced last year by a local appliance repair company and they are already shot.. thanks for the video we will be doing this ourselves.
Hey there. What would I be looking for when inspecting current rods to tell me they need to be replaced? Or is the replacement done in hopes this is fixing the unbalanced code?
Great video good help . One problem it still goes off balance to the point it start the cycle again in spin cycle. Any help . Thanks
Worked like a charm! Thank you
AMAZING video…quick question…I forgot to put the clamp back on right before I put the top back on. We started running a load to test it out, will that hurt anything until I’m able to get the top back off and put the clamp on?
Wow thank you so much for the great video. Was very easy to do with your instructions 👍👍👍
I followed the video fix my issue thanks!!!
I have been having this issue. Good to know it can be repaired.
@@820light Thanks! That will be my weekend project for next weekend.
Thank you! Ordered the parts on Amazon and once they arrived, it took about 20 minutes to remove and replace the stabilizer rods. Washer stays in balance now.
Great video, fixed our balance issue.
Just purchased the Samsung washer model WA50M7450AW from Costco for $499. Just wondering if it was good purchase before my return window runs out? And recommendations for a great reliable impeller washer? Thank you.
Thanks for the info ! I’ll check back with an update
Thank you. Just ordered parts.
Thanks for the great video and at least now I know how to fix it. And, I don't want to be obtuse here but why, are we the customers paying for and repairing machines with a major design flaw? A design flaw that Samsung should have addressed in the first place?
I changed my suspension rods. It worked for about a week. Started with the same problem again.
What fails on those rods? What does a bad rod look like?
Heads up for model wa45n3050aw/a4...there are also two screws up front before you pop the tabs! They are under rubber plugs. Took me a while before I realized that myself.
My washer had two screws in the front on the top section as well holding it down. So instead of being able to use a putty knife to pry it up, I had to remove some small white padding that hides the screws. Probably bent some metal trying to get the top off before I realized that.
Omg. Thank you so much. And also for this video. I could not get the puddy knife through. I had same scenario. I appreciate you and this video
Same but definitely bent a lot of metal
I removed the rods one at a time and measured the springs. All were around 4 inches in length, so I stretched them all to 5 inches. Next open the plastic cover with the foam insert, take it out and cut 2 pieces of zip tie the same length, yours may need more. Insert the zip tie pieces between the foam and the plastic cover increasing the pressure on the metal rod.
Real easy with the help of your video!! Thanks a lot 🙏
I have the same washer which part do I buy I’m interested thanks for sharing ❤
God bless for sharing your knowledge.
