Thank you. Reminder to everyone, especially if working by yourself, make sure you clip the new rods on the frame before lifting the washer upright (as a "friend" did). The whole tub, surround and motor will be sitting on the ground with the rods 6 inches from where you need them. I......I mean my friend, was very peeved with himself.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. I installed them with help form my son. I would pull up on the suspension rod and he would place the plastic bearing. I struggled a bit since the new rods have so much tension. I used an old suspension rod hook to get leverage and pull the suspension rod through the hole. This actually made it easier. Although it was a bit challenging, your video was perfect plus it feels rewarding knowing that I installed them myself. Much appreciated.
THANK YOU! Made this repair today and just put in the biggest, heaviest load of towels that I wouldn't have dared wash before and it was completely silent.
Great video, I tried the steps myself and so far I'm still getting the UL unbalanced load but I did notice my machine is running better. For the cost and the experience to fix something I never knew how this was a challenge. Like some comments have mentioned it was not easy lifting the balance rods. So it takes some patience. Hey if I can do it anyone else can. Update, I reset my washing machine after get the UL error again again I did this change. After the reset my machine has been working fine so far. Thanks for this video
I found replacing suspensions one by one much much more easier than taking off four at the same time. It may sound harder to take off one of the suspensions and tilting washer down, getting old one underneath and putting new one. When you put new one put some duct tape buttom of new suspension, it will help not to damage neither your floor as well as suspension will not get damaged. If you replace 4 of them same time you will definitely need one more person at least to lift up drum but if you do one by one it should not take any longer than 45 min for one person. Also very nice tip - use the head of old suspension to hang to the new one and lift up. It will be twice more effective and will save your arm get cut and etc. Good luck with your repair!
The method in the video requires lifting the rods high enough to insert the top retainer while the washer is upright. As others have mentioned, this can be quite difficult, usually a second person must lift the tub while you insert the retainer. It's hard to get such a good grip on the rods. So I found a much easier way. Simply tilt the washer and lay it down ON ONE SIDE, NOT ON THE BACK. Then remove the two screws in the back and tilt out the top as shown, but it will be sideways so no need for a lanyard, no chance for the top to come crashing down on you either, so this is much safer as well. Now you get access to all the rods with no weight on them, so you can remove and replace them completely while the washer is sideways.
Yeah i tried doing how he did it to even pull.them up to get them out wasnt easy then i nserted the.from the bottom was no way i could pull them up. They make it look so easy
I got one of the old rods out, then once the new rod was in place, i used the old rod through the bearing hole, to hook the new rod and used the old rod to pull the new rod through the hole high enough to to put the bearing on. Then once the bearing was lined up properly with the new rod hook, i wiggled out the old rod.
I used a insulation wire hanger. I bent the end into a small hook to reach the suspension rod top hook and the top of the insulation into a larger hook to grip. Put thru hole of washer where rod goes. Then slid on top rod cap slot then twisted into position and lowered.
You can also use one of the old rods to hook the top of the new rod to pull it through the top. Just slide the old rod hook end through the socket hole, connect the top of the new rod hook end to the old one and lift up on the old rod to pull the new one through the socket hole.
Great video! Thanks for sharing! I have a Roper washer that needs new suspension rods put in! My washer shakes like it's possessed! I know the neighbor lady next door probably gets ticked off at all the noise my washer makes, especially late at night. In a week from now, i will buy the rods to repair the issue and exorcise the demons! 😜
Great step by step video. Worked great. Have a helper slightly lift the drum as you reinstall the suspension bearings (balls). It makes it a lot easier. Thanks.
Thank you sir for this excellent video, it was super helpful! Long story short, I visited my senior parents out of state, the night before I was leaving the hook on a spring popped of washing my laundry. Fortunately, 1/4” nut driver did the trick and not parts were damaged. Great post!😎
Yeah, this is simple and cheap, however be forewarned that there's another failure that can cause these symptoms that are seldom discussed in any of these videos and that's a Stator that has cracks in it. Maytag and Whirlpool washers with direct drive motors seem to have this defect. Like many I did this repair and the washer continued its violent shaking. Then I did the bearings and seal...same thing... Wifey is now discouraged and pizzed. When I did the bearings and seal I noticed a few cracks in the stator housing. I read one or two posts on google regarding this but was skeptical that this could be the cause of the violent shaking and was reluctant to spend $200+ for a new stator if it didn't fix the problem. I removed the stator and placed it in an oven @275F for an hour to open the cracks up and afterwards used epoxy (loctite 9462) to fill the cracks when still hot. I then placed a band clamp around the stator to pull it together and let it set for 12 hours+. Wala, the washer ran like new. No shaking. This is a temporary fix and have since replaced the stator with a new one on amazon. All is right in the world now (wifey is happy again😏)!
I did this today THANKS to your video. I do recommend a flat like container to put under the drain hose when you first pull it off for the excess water. An extra problem I had was tightening the packing nut on one of my water cut offs cause of a leak.
Excellent video, but, I do have to share that if you are female of smaller build, the weight of the washer drum is considerable to be lifting with one hand and arm, pulling up from a single rod. I lift, with two arms, a max of 40-42#'s, but, this was really difficult. The springs do not give that much, and it requires a significant amount of upper body strength and brawn, to attach these. It took me longer than expected, and really would have been better with an extra arm and hand. This guy makes it look easy, but, it was not as easy with my older machine, and my strength level. The new plastic bearings were very thinly made and would not snap on easily. Again a little more brawn to pull the rods up further would have made that easier, but, I liked the older bearings far better, as the plastic was much sturdier.
You're not kidding! I'm a man but those rods can be a bear to pull up since they are what hold all the weight of the drum, and a bit dangerous because you don't want one of those suspension rod hooks catching on your hand or arm if it slips with all that weight pulling down on it. It's much easier after the first front suspension hook is seated to the do the last three, at least for me. I needed to ask my mom to pop on the first suspension ball while I held up the weight pulling up on the suspension rod because it was tricky. I found it was much easier holding on to the slippery rods while wearing gloves with rubber grips.
Excellent video! I have one suggestion. When lifting each rod to install the new bearing, I found I couldn't grip the rod tight enough and it would slip down before I could get the bearing on with my other hand. Using a rubber glove on the hand holding up the rod allowed enough grip to get the bearing on.
A repair guy was charging me 270 . Found your video so wish me luck 🙃 Im a single mom trying to save money . Ordering the parts cause you made it look easy I think I can do it lol 😅
Thanks for this video. Although the sequence is perfect, lifting the first rod with one hand is simply not possible unless you do some serious weight lifting or have a second pair of hands to help you. In my case I managed to use a hook to lift the first two rods up before insert them into the holding clip.
Great video. Helped me fix my washer easily. These are the video that should be made more worth than silly pranksters taking away so much... youtube must pay the video based on what efforts and content was in it.
Do you mean complete failure as in a broken spring, or are we talking about just worn out springs? If so, how do we inspect to tell off replacement is necessary?
Thanks for showing the step by step video of how to replace the suspension rod. My question is how I know if this is the problem with my washer. It can still dry the clothes very well and does not make unbalance sounds or rock the entire machine. However, when the machine is working, it makes loud sound especially when spinning. So, is this a suspension rod issue? I thank you in advance for answering my question.
Once its banging when on drain/spin it's the dampening rods. These rods were designed to use for two yrs max. I'm now exploring using stick steel putty with nyogel dampening grease which may last for the life of the machine
I took mine apart. I bought from amazon some brass shim material. (verry cheep) I lined the entire hole with brass shim. Then I slid my rubber into what is now a smaller tighter hole.
How can you tell if your rods need to be replaced? My machine gets out of balance often and won’t completely drain but it’s not making any banging noises.
I have a top load Kenmore 25132 that was recently repaired. Dampening rods . For some reason it spins violently. Bangs real loud. Sounds like it's gonna break apart. What can be the problem?
@appliancepartspros . Youre welcme. wtw5000dw1 I installed new suspension springs and centering springs and calibrated today. 95 % of shakes cleared up. But! I've checked the break and the outlet is working. Any idea on what could be the problem? I have since watched another video on replacing the rod and it said to never lay the machine down, just wondering if that possibly killed the machine?
Mine looked exactly the same as well, but the old springs were much easier compressed than the new ones that are very stiff. The new ones did the trick.
Model WTW5000DW1 Problem Excessive shaking n banging while in spin cycle It has 2 suspension rods with green caps and 2 with white caps. Are they perhaps the wrong one? It is possible one or two of the rods failed and were replaced instead of replacing all of them. Unfortunately, there isn't a way for us to tell that. The correct suspension rod for your model is part number W11130362. I'm not seeing any other springs listed for this model. If you have any other questions or need to order the correct parts, you can call us at 1-877-477-7278.
So we have rods for 2 years & the components came off of one of the rods. So can these components be put back together so we do not have to spend more money on suspension rods again?
There were no springs on my machine existing when I opened up to replace the rods, although the outside of the drum had a place for them to attach. I decided to get 2 pairs of springs and attach them with the new rods. Not sure if they are necessary, but, if they add any extra stability, it was a minimal additional expenditure, and they were an easy add on. HTH
Having to run the rods into the bottom of the machine instead of being able to simply slide them into the base from above is a design weakness. Lying the machine horizontally significantly increases the time and effort required for this repair.
Always consult with a professional first, but it could also be a drain issue. If water cant be drained out enough it will cause a blance issue especially in spin cycle.
To check the suspension rods, with an empty basket, push down on the tub and see if it bounces back up quickly. It should not bounce but have some resistance when it comes back up to a normal position.
I followed and replaced the suspension rods as you did and my Maytag Centennial washer still banging in the housing. What else can I do to fix this? Help... Anyone... Please
You can buy damping grease and add it to the rods where the bushing slides on it (top of spring). I'm surprised so few of these washer repair videos mentions damping grease. When washer starts spinning, and gets up to a certain RPM with heavy load even slightly out of balance the combination of springs and load will be in resonance and the drum can fly way off center. Damping grease helps prevent this. New rods come with some grease on them but I'm not convinced it is optimized for heavy loads.
I have a whirlpool top load washer and I have changed all four of the rods but the washer is still doing the same as before banging and moving violently like it possessed. Don’t see any other videos on this beside to suspension rods. Is there any other suggestions of what else is wrong. Pls let me know thx.
(In my east coast accent) Ya facking guy🤌. They obviously desighn these facking things to fail Paulie🤌🤌🤌. You know what imgunado pualie.... I think I'll design mine with a late 80's model Chevrolet short wheel base upper and lower controle arm and suspension☝. Ya know what I'm saying? That way it won't fail after 1 wardrobe worth of cloths. What da you say huh Paulie boy? Im just saying👐.

Could you explain what you mean about using the old suspension to hold it while you put the new one on?
see the response from hambone below, that should explain a bit better@@gingertree9006
This is the absolute best replacement video ive seen thus far.
Very simple an easy to follow video. Actually doing this my self right now for the first time. Thank you so much

Just slide the old rod hook end through the socket hole, connect the top of the new rod hook end to the old one and lift up on the old rod to pull the new one through the socket hole.
Thank you could have finished without this comment!
Just wanna say I appreciate this video and the time it took you to make it. just helped me save a lot of money I don't have.

Amazingly Easy, Big Thanks. Start to finish, 1 hr, saved lot's of money. The washer is much quieter now when running, draining, spinning.
I followed your procedure and found it was very easy.Job completed in less than 30 minutes. Thank you

This is great but can someone pls list everything you would need for this repair to do by yourself or with just one other person.
I replaced all of mine from the top. It was a pain but it's doable
Happy to hear that you were able to get your repair completed.
I used the hook on the old suspension rod to help thread the new ones in
If you need help with anything please let us know.
Man is like the Bob Ross of washing machine repair.
Thx for this video,i realized this job easily.
I used the clip end of my dog’s lease to grab the hook top of the rod and pull it up through the hole. Ha!!
Best instructional video! Thanh you!
Greetings do you have to remove any back panel screws before lifting lid???
This video is perfection.
Thank you. If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
This worked for me. Thank you so much!!
Springs on the support rods ? My kit came with springs . Are the springs to keep the rods centered ?
How can you tell if your rods need to be replaced? My machine gets out of balance often and won’t completely drain but it’s not making any banging noises.
Thank you sir, great video!
You're welcome!
Wow!! Thanks for the vid! Going to try this right now

Great video.
I have a top load Kenmore 25132 that was recently repaired. Dampening rods . For some reason it spins violently. Bangs real loud. Sounds like it's gonna break apart. What can be the problem?
Me again. Found the short spring/centering springs video you have. Hopefully, it'll help. 2 are mississing.
Thank you for the update
@appliancepartspros . Youre welcme. wtw5000dw1 I installed new suspension springs and centering springs and calibrated today. 95 % of shakes cleared up. But! Durning high-speed spin at the final cycle the first 3 to 5 seconds sorta wobbles then quickly clears up. What am I missing! Thanks I appreciate you guys videos.
I almost spelled Mississippi 😅
I followed the instructions step by step. The installation went without a hitch. Once reassembled, conceded and back in place, the washer will not come on. I've checked the break and the outlet is working. Any idea on what could be the problem? I have since watched another video on replacing the rod and it said to never lay the machine down, just wondering if that possibly killed the machine?
They look exactly the same those old suspensions aren't bad
Mine looked exactly the same as well, but the old springs were much easier compressed than the new ones that are very stiff. The new ones did the trick.
Good job thank for the tips
Model WTW5000DW1
Problem Excessive shaking n banging while in spin cycle
It has 2 suspension rods with green caps and 2 with white caps. Are they perhaps the wrong one? If they're correct, which ones go where? Purchased used. It is possible one or two of the rods failed and were replaced instead of replacing all of them. Unfortunately, there isn't a way for us to tell that. Is rhis the same with 400 series kenmore?
Thank you very much.

muchas gracias por este video
De nada. Si hay algo en lo que podamos ayudarle en el futuro, háganoslo saber.
So we have rods for 2 years & the components came off of one of the rods. So can these components be put back together so we do not have to spend more money on suspension rods again?
You can try to put it back together, but if it won't stay together you will have to get new rods.
Thanks!
You are welcome.
He never recalibrated the machine
How do you recalibrate the machine?
@@shadeshiest22you don’t calibrate this model. His comment is misinformation and he’s probably clueless.
I am doing this now but the drum is so heavy to lift.
Yes, that drum is heavy, you may need to get some help if you are unable to lift it by yourself.
@appliancepartspros I got it done but still not spinning properly. Ugh. Replace time.
Excellent video. Do you need the springs that attach to the rods or will the washer be ok without them???
There were no springs on my machine existing when I opened up to replace the rods, although the outside of the drum had a place for them to attach. I decided to get 2 pairs of springs and attach them with the new rods. Not sure if they are necessary, but, if they add any extra stability, it was a minimal additional expenditure, and they were an easy add on. HTH
@@2010Sanctuary Ok. I added the springs also for "extra" security 😎😁👍🏾
Having to run the rods into the bottom of the machine instead of being able to simply slide them into the base from above is a design weakness. Lying the machine horizontally significantly increases the time and effort required for this repair.
That can make the repair more difficult. If you have any questions just let us know.
I like taking one out at a time

I need those hose fitting pliers. Probably cost $50.
You can get those at your local hardware store.
I did this and it is still walking all over the place . What else can I try?
Have you made sure the washer is leveled?
Always consult with a professional first, but it could also be a drain issue. If water cant be drained out enough it will cause a blance issue especially in spin cycle.
What is the cost for this job?
Are you wanting to know the cost of the part or looking for someone to come out to your house and do the repair?
Ain’t nearly as easy as they made it look in the video (typical for a RUclips video). I had to call my grown son to help and we still struggled.
If there is anything we can help you with please let us know.
How can u tell there bad
