@@thefastrightptg5048 I personally think she is really redeemable, but just a big project to work on. I just see it plain and simple: Malachite is the embodiment of a double sided abusive relationship. Like how Garnet is the embodiment of love and loyalty but completely opposite.
About fusions, I love how their stability can also be a factor for their physical form, for example Garnet is almost a “perfect” gem, having one extra eye, while fusions like, say, Malachite, is pretty much an ant on its hind 4 legs
I do hang out in BDSM circles. yeah.. I agree with you. BDSM is all about consent from the start! you know those jokes about "what's the safe word?" well as silly as they are they show that a conversation happened and safeguards were put in place before the scene happened. So yeah.. DEFINITELY NOT what malachite is. If they did make some kind of fusion that represented BDSM at least emotionally it would probably be a character that liked to really let loose and test boundaries but always knew when to dial back and stop is someone got hurt. Interestingly enough there is a concept called 'aftercare' in BDSM. in which after the scene the two people talk about what happened and see if things went too far. etc. That TOTALLY a Steven universe thing through and through!
Thankyou, all of this! Theres also the fact that in most scenarios the sub is actually the one in control, they can hit the brakes at anytime and that can only happen if there is a strong trust bond between all parties involved. Nowhere is trust embodied in Malachite, to suggest that she represents bdsm relationships is misinformed at best and outright insulting at worst
@@halu959986 oh totally! thanks for bringing that up! i forgot to say that. Later, when i thought about it. I think a Steven Jasper fusion (After both deal with there issues) would be pretty close to a BDSM fusion. Steven has loads of emotional awareness and communication but fears his more 'dark' thoughts. Jasper is pretty open bout her impulses but has boundary issues to say the least. Both in future want to express a more physical outlet without shame or fear but need boundaries to make sure no one gets hurt. :-). In other words both want to make like Elsa and "let it go" while not hurting others.
Exactly why I wanted to address that speculation! Thanks for giving a perspective from someone in that scene! I could only speak from what friends have told me, so I really appreciate your input!
@@kriscarr4929 oh, no problem! I tell people "Kinkster were practicing consent long before it became the open topic it is today. BDSM is very proud of that and it all truly comes from a place of love and trust."
i was sO hoping you’d mention the toxic in water thing it’s one of my favourite little connections between the stone and the character, even if it has turned out unintentional!
The only explanation I can give for why we never got a Jasper and Lapis reunion in Future is that it already happened in between any of the two timeskips.
Absolutely, my guess would be that the character designs affect the pov since lapis is smaller and less rough compared to Jasper but also in real life, sometimes life isn't black and white. We get people who seem nice but are monsters behind doors and those who are brutish but are just as hurt. As much as we would love to see victim vs abuser, it's not always the case no matter how nice or helpless one party looks.
i feel like jasper manipulates lapis but lapis abuses jasper, like jasper recognises lapis' power and tries to rile up her emotions and then turn her wrath on jaspers' enemies while lapis partly realises what is happening but instead of trying to leave the situation she wails on jasper mentally and emotionally in an effort to dissuade jasper. unfortunately jasper only sees the power on display and either completely misses or ignores the reason and/or feelings behind it. this leads to jasper almost Martyring herself in a futile attempt to steer malachites power to smite her foes. this leads to both of them being mentally and emotionally, battered and exhausted. shown by lapis being drawn with a torn dress and scuff marks all over, and jasper being beaten down to her hands and knees. while lapis clearly states her opinions on the boat, jasper seems to be addicted to the raw power of malachite and is willing to go through literal torture to be able to feel this power even if she is on the receiving end of it, she clings to the idea that she will be eventually bring this power to bare against the crystal gems.
Kris Carr oh cool I didn’t know you were a hologram! I know that we're supposed to view her as toxic, but I have to say, Malachite has been my favorite fusion since the moment she formed. She just radiates sheer power and strength and it's enchanting. I love her fight with Alexandrite, it's just so graceful and coordinated that I've watched it over and over. I'm glad that we got Lapis back, because she's pretty much my favorite crystal gem, but I still kinda wish they stayed as Malachite, at least for a little longer. Or that we got to see Malachite more.
You are 100% correct about the BDSM. A relationship like that built on consent and communication. As soon as bondage and domination is used as a weapon for without consent it stops being BDSM.
Even watching this years later I still love the fact that as a comparison to venom Kris says "we are malachite" and in the su soundtrack that is genuinely what malachite's theme is titled i love it
I actually love the design of malachite, is one of my personal favorites, and the resemblance with the actual mineral is one of the closest in the show in my opinion. Just can't stop thinking that I would've like to see a more stable and "positive" version of this fusion, as well as the relationship between lapis and jasper on this last season of Steven Universe. It got so much potential since both lapis and jasper got some kind of redemption arc already, seeing them fuse in a more healthy way was something I was expecting and it's such a shame it won't happen in the end 😕
i would have wish for them to get along in the end. but it would be to dangerous since both of them are heavily traumatized and hella unstable. one is insecure and the other one has ptsd sooooo ya
I imagine if she was stable she'd be even more terrifying. Think about it, combine Jaspers cold bloodedness and Lapis's distant nature, I'd imagine something more akin to a lovecraftian horror with a war traumatized mindset binding it together. Something beyond human comprehension, the ultimate lack of empathy and general disdain for others uniting it into a silent, majestic, horrifying being. I love it.
@@enigmatixthecringechampion5004 but Onion needs to be analyzed because he is so CREEPY and weird since he never ages throughout the entire series, movie and SUF

The fusion between jasper and lapis was the embodiment of a very toxic relationship. But liked how they didn't make jasper the only guilty one but that lapis was also guilty in her own way. Though malachite seems to be the real victim as lapis took her anger out on jasper whilst jasper was blinded by her desire for payback. A very powerful fusion that was created through very toxic circumstances.
malachite is really terrifiying , she is the embodiment of a toxic relationship between jasper and lapis , these two had so much traumas in their lives . i'll start with jasper , she was called the ultimate quartz soldier because she was created without a flaw in the beta kindergarten , ever since she popped from the ground she instantly knew what her purpose is and that was to obey and serve homeworld and the diamonds , but jasper was mostly intrested in fighting from one battle to the next , however when jasper learned that pink diamond (the one she was made to serve ) was shattered by rose quartz , she held a huge grudge on rose and swore she will one day avenge her diamond and when she first saw amethyst she made fun of her because of her size and weakness and also hated fusion because she saw it as a trick for weaker gems to get stronger , but after she was beaten by garnet she decided to use lapis as a weapon to make her self more powerful but it didn't turn out well as both jasper and lapis stayed in that form for too long that made them both phychologically weak , after malachite's fight with alexandrite and defusing both lapis and her , jasper has been at the bottom of the ocean remembering what fusion felt like and how powerful she was , she decided to return to lapis and begged for her to fuse again but lapis refused , on the episode " earthlings" after another failed face off with steven and amethyst and being corrupted after fusing with a corrupted gem , jasper confessed about how she hates steven or 'rose' for recruiting defected gems to do her bidding and protect a place that caused her so much trouble and how because of rose she lost the diamond she was supposed to protect before being poofed by peridot . then we have lapis we don't really know much about why she went to earth except she was sent there for a mission but when she arrived , the rebellion was taking place and she was poofed by a gem and another accidentally stepped on her while running away and caused her gem to be cracked then she was placed in a mirror to communicate with its holder and tell a certain future based on what she sees , then steven freed her from her long imprisonment and attacked the crystal gems because they knew she was trapped in the mirror but did nothing to help her , then she decides to return home by using the earth's ocean because her powers don't work anymore but thanks to steven's healing ability she was able to fly again and thanked him before she left , however as soon as she returned to homeworld she was taken as a hostage by peridot and jasper , lapis held so much frustration at jasper for abusing her so she decided to take her revenge by fusing with jasper and trap both of them in the ocean and slowly lose control of herself and she will be scarred by this event forever . malachite is both scary and tragic at the same time because half of her was destructive while the other was drained of emotions .
9:42 look at malachites smile, clearly it must be lapis and jasper finding it entertaining and it’s showing through malachite, that smile is kinda cute tho
I wish you had mentioned chrysocolla, it’s basically a combination of malachite and azurite, and could have been a great speculative example if these two villains would have fused!
You know, Malachite has many similarities and differences to another antagonistic fusion formed from hatred and vengeance: Bluebird Azurite. Similarities: They are both double gem fusions (obviously). They both have green patches on their bodies. They both have four legs, they both have water wings, they both have cyrokinesis, and they are both based on copper oxides. Differences: The most obvious one is this: Malachite is gigantic being bigger then Sugilite but smaller then Alexandrite, for Bluebird she is about the same size as Steven when he was still a little kid in the original series. In other words, Malachite is the largest double gem fusion in the series, while Bluebird is the smallest. Malachite has two voice actors while Bluebird has just one. Also Bluebird is more stable then Malachite but is less stable then Garnet. Not only that, but Bluebird gets a upgraded weapon (a chisel knife too a ice cutlass) while Malachite's helmet doesn't change (I thought her Crash Helmet would become a Diving Helmet). Bluebird is more colorful then Malachite being composed of blues, reds, and greens. While Malachite is only greens. Also while they technically both have four legs, Malachite's are four arms that function like legs. And finally Malachite has four eyes, while Bluebird has only one, with the other eye being replaced by Ruby's gemstone. The final difference between is that Malachite was formed to destroy the Crystal Gems on the spot, while Bluebird was formed to get revenge against Steven by infiltrating his home, and deceiving his friends. With that aside, I hope the next gem you cover should be Bluebird Azurite. She is one of my favorite antagonist in the show because of her color scheme, origins, and is a fusion of two popular little mean gems.
@@IronMoth., while you are indeed more stable then Malachite. Malachite fought Alexandrite to a stand still, while you were squashed by her in a single blow.
But look at the bright side. You learned you can't beat him as long as he has his friends. But like they say "the enemy, of my enemy, is my friend." In other words, find other people with similar desires and interest of your own. Strength in numbers. Make your own team, to take down his.
I really wish we could have seen more of malachite, maybe have a situation where their only option is to fuse to defend themselves. Since in a more stable fusion the gems' thoughts and feelings are meshed, maybe the 2 could have come to terms with their situation and had more closure.
They kept claiming they're both abusers, but it feels like they kept going out of their way to paint Lapis as the victim. When you realize that Malachite is based off of story when Rebecca was the victim ( according to herself ) in an abusive relationship, it kind of makes too much sense... And the fact that fans keep insisting it's not consensual when it clearly was really bothers me. You don't have to say the word yes to consent. But they kept pressing it as if Lapis was ' the prisoner ' ( they literally push this narrative in Steven Universe Future ), and people still try manipulate what really happened. And the crewniverse just went along with it. I just... 🤦
There are 2 forms of consent. Listen for my yes and wait for my no. During the beginning of the fusion the 1st one was in play however, the moment jasper tried to escape the 2nd option appeared making it nonconsensual. The defuse re-fuse proposal led to another form of toxicity in which one partner is forced into a position unwillingly (jasper trying to get lapis to dominate her.) That is another form of non-consent. It is shown throughout her arch, jasper has a very toxic mindset and lapis was not in a place to fuse with her. This fusion was BAD
Jasper and lapis lazuli’s Fusion (Malachite) reminds me of Spike and Buffy’s relationship from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy hated herself and she took all her anger out on Spike, but Spike Would often remind Buffy of her own insecurities any time she look like she was trying to get away from the relationship, during intimate moments between the two she would cause physical damage to him but I would argue that the emotional damage he caused was just as bad. Don’t get me wrong I love Spike but I’m not blind to the shitty things he’s done.

Ok I clearly have HORRIBLE taste in favourites but I love Malachite in every way. I love her design, personality, and especially the representation that comes along with her. Bold move to put something so serious in a kids show, but it wouldn’t be the same without her tbh.
I hate how little lapis and jasper’s relationship was discussed after malachite was split up. The only confrontation was when jasper asked to fuse with lapis again, but then they both just stopped talking about it. Lapis was expressing to Steven how she missed being malachite, yet she never spoke of it again after that episode. Jasper was desperate to be malachite again, and resorted to fusing with corrupted gems to fulfill what she missed from malachite, yet she never once talked about malachite or tried to talk to lapis again afterwards.
I like to think the closer two gems are and how much they understand each other, the more their fusion is its own person getting their own voice and at the highest level getting their own weapon. Though the greater the purpose of a fusion these get overtaken
Here’s my ultimate Steven Universe fantasy: they run into some adversary that’s pure evil, and defeats its opponents by triggering their insecurities. Whenever the gems try fighting the foe, it gains more power from their hatred and violence. Then Lapis and Jasper, out of desperation, fuse into Malachite. The enemy then surrenders... out of respect, claiming Malachite’s hatred and bloodlust puts itself to shame!
What I love is that Lapis and Jasper are never seen together again. Malachite was extremely bad for both of them and they need to stay away. If they meet, they might fall back on old patterns, and even regress in development. In real life, people in abusive relationship need to leave their abusers and often stay away for good. All the apologies, all the “it’ll be better this time”s, they won’t change the fact that what happened shouldn’t have happened in the first place.
I can’t think of any other gems but can you please keep doing these videos I’m in absolute love with them, and I’m loving learning new things, these videos have inspired me to do my own research into different gems ❤️❤️
Jasper didn’t lie to Lapis. Jasper freely said that her intentions were to fight the Crystal Gems. Lapis? She agreed to the terms of the fusion (fight the Crystal Gems) and then used the new fusion to *trap Jasper in the ocean*. Lapis was the abuser.
Honestly the way I think of fusion between different individuals of different gems is that differences can be actually pretty steep for each fusion. I mean, two Pearls with two drastically different mindsets and a non business related fusion are vastly more unique than the ruby squad's fusion being just themselves but bigger. And Topaz has a bond with Topaz to where if they are given time to grow closer they might be more unique than the ruby squads are. I firmly believe fusion between the same gems can lead to proper connections, and that fusions between any gem components are able to be unique if given the time to properly develop and grow. I mean, the Jade fusion was of similar gems but wound up very unique even with the limb joints being wild. Who's to say if Rhodonite and Padparacha fused into a Sardonyx it would be just a carbon copy of Pearl and Garnet? Clearly they are way different even per individuals.
here's a thought : malachite's weapons aren't as 'fused' as other fusions would have 'fused' weapons , such as opal's bow , because of how willingly the two gems decide to be as they're fused , or how their relationship works. malachite's components , jasper and lapis lazuli , aren't healthy in their will to stay together ; they just want control and to be in charge of their fusion , as you said. jasper's helmet , when used by malachite , is *still orange.* lapis' power isn't integrated into the helmet ! this makes me guess that their weapons are totally separated because of their need for control. whenever jasper decides to be in most control , more brute strength , quartz-like moves (the rolling-up-into-a-ball thing ?) , and her helmet are used , along with some of the hydrokinetic and cryokinetic abilities lapis is capable of , as she is partial to using violence compared to lapis. lapis used more of her hydrokinetic abilities as chains , defense , flight , etc. but , it's still slightly less violent compared to jasper , though both abuse each other in response.
Malachite is my favorite fusion for multiple reasons: 1. I think her story is genus for the show. The representation and depiction of an abusive relationship is something I never expected to see in a cartoon and was done very well. 2. I think her design is unique and really cool. 3. Malachite is my favorite crystal so I might be biased.
I also had a different perspective as it felt like a metaphor for my bpd rage, as in Lapis symbolizing trying to keep that anger in control and also feeling like having to punish myself for it. But that's just me. I honestly liked the Bdsm take of it too tbh 😅
Designwise Malachite was and still is my favourite fusion, and malachite is my favourite gemstone in real life. Becouse of that i was always wishing for Jasper to get a proper redemption, i would have loved a Future episode with her and lapis trying to go to therapy together and attempting to create a healthy Malachite for at least a while, but even by the end of the show Jasper remained too unchanged for that to be an option
To be honest I don't think Steven Universe is done, and I do see Jasper and Lapis fusing again, only if Jasper continue on her path of healing. Especially in a worse case scenario, I believe if they were faced with a massive enemy, worse than monster Steven, malachite and obsidian would be needed to take down the enemy

@@Micr0wavedWaffl3s thx
The only explanation I can give for why we never got a Jasper and Lapis reunion in Future is that it already happened in between any of the two timeskips.
I fell like they're both the abuser but it doesn't come across very well and is very confuseing

I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw it lol
Even watching this years later I still love the fact that as a comparison to venom Kris says "we are malachite" and in the su soundtrack that is genuinely what malachite's theme is titled i love it
The only canon Lapis and Jasper fusion. I love this toxic girl
🥺
I love it.
Sounds like my first relationship fallout for years

The fusion between jasper and lapis was the embodiment of a very toxic relationship. But liked how they didn't make jasper the only guilty one but that lapis was also guilty in her own way. Though malachite seems to be the real victim as lapis took her anger out on jasper whilst jasper was blinded by her desire for payback. A very powerful fusion that was created through very toxic circumstances.
7:17 would not recommend watching that part when you're high.
malachite is really terrifiying , she is the embodiment of a toxic relationship between jasper and lapis , these two had so much traumas in their lives . i'll start with jasper , she was called the ultimate quartz soldier because she was created without a flaw in the beta kindergarten , ever since she popped from the ground she instantly knew what her purpose is and that was to obey and serve homeworld and the diamonds , but jasper was mostly intrested in fighting from one battle to the next , however when jasper learned that pink diamond (the one she was made to serve ) was shattered by rose quartz , she held a huge grudge on rose and swore she will one day avenge her diamond and when she first saw amethyst she made fun of her because of her size and weakness and also hated fusion because she saw it as a trick for weaker gems to get stronger , but after she was beaten by garnet she decided to use lapis as a weapon to make her self more powerful but it didn't turn out well as both jasper and lapis stayed in that form for too long that made them both phychologically weak , after malachite's fight with alexandrite and defusing both lapis and her , jasper has been at the bottom of the ocean remembering what fusion felt like and how powerful she was , she decided to return to lapis and begged for her to fuse again but lapis refused , on the episode " earthlings" after another failed face off with steven and amethyst and being corrupted after fusing with a corrupted gem , jasper confessed about how she hates steven or 'rose' for recruiting defected gems to do her bidding and protect a place that caused her so much trouble and how because of rose she lost the diamond she was supposed to protect before being poofed by peridot . then we have lapis we don't really know much about why she went to earth except she was sent there for a mission but when she arrived , the rebellion was taking place and she was poofed by a gem and another accidentally stepped on her while running away and caused her gem to be cracked then she was placed in a mirror to communicate with its holder and tell a certain future based on what she sees , then steven freed her from her long imprisonment and attacked the crystal gems because they knew she was trapped in the mirror but did nothing to help her , then she decides to return home by using the earth's ocean because her powers don't work anymore but thanks to steven's healing ability she was able to fly again and thanked him before she left , however as soon as she returned to homeworld she was taken as a hostage by peridot and jasper , lapis held so much frustration at jasper for abusing her so she decided to take her revenge by fusing with jasper and trap both of them in the ocean and slowly lose control of herself and she will be scarred by this event forever . malachite is both scary and tragic at the same time because half of her was destructive while the other was drained of emotions .
Yes I love Malachite! She's my favorite fusion and I have been waiting for the video to come out! :D She's an absolute powerhouse and I love her
I can't wait for me to get covered!
You're gonna do me?
RIGHT!?
Did anyone notice that when the Malachite gem showed up at 0:20 it looked like a middle finger in some way- ;-;
9:42 look at malachites smile, clearly it must be lapis and jasper finding it entertaining and it’s showing through malachite, that smile is kinda cute tho
i think its jasper going "ha ha ha look at these little idiots they think they can beat ME?!?" while lapis is like "they're kinda cute tho"
@@crestfallensunbro6001 It's a sadistic smile, no question.
I wish you had mentioned chrysocolla, it’s basically a combination of malachite and azurite, and could have been a great speculative example if these two villains would have fused!
Whoa that's really cool!
I am better fusion
@@IronMoth., while you are indeed more stable then Malachite. Malachite fought Alexandrite to a stand still, while you were squashed by her in a single blow.
@@Brydav_Massbear ...
Dang.
But look at the bright side. You learned you can't beat him as long as he has his friends. But like they say "the enemy, of my enemy, is my friend." In other words, find other people with similar desires and interest of your own. Strength in numbers. Make your own team, to take down his.
I think malachite is like alexandrite that's why she doesn't have her own weapon
I really wish we could have seen more of malachite, maybe have a situation where their only option is to fuse to defend themselves. Since in a more stable fusion the gems' thoughts and feelings are meshed, maybe the 2 could have come to terms with their situation and had more closure.
Who’s your favorite fusion from Steven universe?
Either Rainbow Quartz 2.0 or Malachite
Garnet
Hugo Mwidau obsidian
Stevonnie and\or Malachite
Garnet!
Malachite really wasn’t necessary for Lapis to do. Sis was literally right next to the ocean.
Malachite is definitely my fav gem design and power set.
I feel like her camera is slowly drifting into insanity

Ok I clearly have HORRIBLE taste in favourites but I love Malachite in every way. I love her design, personality, and especially the representation that comes along with her. Bold move to put something so serious in a kids show, but it wouldn’t be the same without her tbh.
Can we see a Holly Blue Agate gem video?
God, I remember when I used to say Malachite, as mala cheet 😔😅😩😪
I just realized jaspers gem grows when she fuses into malachite

If malachite was used in art then maybe that's where lapis's love of art come from.
I wish malachite could come back but now that lapis and jasper are better she has her own voice
For some reason she's my favorite fusion. Probably because of all the thought put into her character and how cool she is but still-
Fun fact: Malachite is generally weak on the Moh's scale
My favorite fusion 😭
I want to see see a nontoxic malachite
Request: Yellow and Blue Pearl! :D
Question can you do a video about pink pearl yellow Pearl and Blue Pearl please
here's a thought : malachite's weapons aren't as 'fused' as other fusions would have 'fused' weapons , such as opal's bow , because of how willingly the two gems decide to be as they're fused , or how their relationship works. malachite's components , jasper and lapis lazuli , aren't healthy in their will to stay together ; they just want control and to be in charge of their fusion , as you said. jasper's helmet , when used by malachite , is *still orange.* lapis' power isn't integrated into the helmet ! this makes me guess that their weapons are totally separated because of their need for control. whenever jasper decides to be in most control , more brute strength , quartz-like moves (the rolling-up-into-a-ball thing ?) , and her helmet are used , along with some of the hydrokinetic and cryokinetic abilities lapis is capable of , as she is partial to using violence compared to lapis. lapis used more of her hydrokinetic abilities as chains , defense , flight , etc. but , it's still slightly less violent compared to jasper , though both abuse each other in response.
Lapis does not use her wings to fight she uses them as a flying appendage
Thank you for taking a more nuanced perspective. I feel like the fandom really tends to lean one way or another with these two.
Malachite is my favorite fusion for multiple reasons:
1. I think her story is genus for the show. The representation and depiction of an abusive relationship is something I never expected to see in a cartoon and was done very well.
2. I think her design is unique and really cool.
3. Malachite is my favorite crystal so I might be biased.
Considering Lapis is actually my favorite character, this fusion scares me.
Yes! I hate this fusion! It makes me sad 😨😞

I also had a different perspective as it felt like a metaphor for my bpd rage, as in Lapis symbolizing trying to keep that anger in control and also feeling like having to punish myself for it. But that's just me. I honestly liked the Bdsm take of it too tbh 😅
I've been waiting for this for so long

The only reason I watched this was becuase I saw cartoon therepy, but Ive binge watched the rest of them, THESE ARE BRILLIANT!
Great video! I'd love to see yellow or blue Pearl next!
