i honestly don’t understand why they made her a crystal gem but decided to keep her as a “guest character”... if lapis bismuth and peridot are not part of the main cast in season 6 it’ll be real awkward...
rebecca did not state specifically that there would be a s6, but she said that SU wasn't over. S5 was the ending of the story they wrote in 2011. hope i helped 😂
That's the physical laws of the real world to blame. They don't allow fun. They don't allow incredibly amazing art. Everything ends up like this because of our mortal limitations.
While I do agree with the fact that peridot was underutilized, I really think a lot of the points made here were strait up wrong because they really were cool ideas that really couldn’t work.

Peridot :Develops Metal Powers High IQ Adjust To Earth Crystal Gem Does literally Nothing In a fight against Diamonds Well she did little bit but you know what I mean what I mean
What could she have done in a fight against the Diamonds? You're kinda phrasing it like you think she should've been fully capable of putting the fight in their favor; also, she DID do something in both fights.
@@DenderFriend I thought since she showed how easy it was for her to make a giant robot suit, she'd use that or make gadgets to help her fight gem monsters on them. They wouldn't have worked, but it would've felt like she tried harder than throwing soda cans at them
@@Serje1227 Do you know how big the Diamonds are? A Mech is barely an upgrade to them. But the mention of Gem Monsters makes em think you weren't talking about Diamonds.
@@DenderFriend Like I said, it would've done nothing. The Diamonds are way too strong. But Peridot getting into a robot suit she built feels like she's trying harder than throwing soda cans
It is unfortunate that peridot and lapis got more sidelined after season 3. In the end it's more schocking when they participate in major events rather than the other way around. I can understand large casts can be difficult to write for but it's unfortunate that we miss some great development for them especially after their reunion and previous split at least some conflict should have come out of that
I think the true reason Peridot's not focused is that, like everyone else, she's shoved aside because in the end, this show is from Steven's POV and has to have Steven in every episode without certain people or gems.
as much as i adore this character, you've put all my thoughts into words. throughout watching her as a character, i'd often ask questions as to, "why wasn't she included in this, it's the perfect opportunity?" or "why wasn't she poofed here, it was the perfect opportunity" my friend noticed this too, as we often watched together. hopefully the newer seasons bring us more peridot actually engaging in some sort of mission or fight, and or making up for the wasted potential. bismuth made connie a sword, so why hasn't she made weapons for the two gems that don't have any defense besides their natural powers? anyways, she really had potential, but the crewniverse just ignored it, and it honestly really sucks, because i've been attached to her, along with so many other people, and every time she'd appear it'd be like,, "i waited all this time to see her again, to see her interact with something, face something.. just for that?" it's strange because i remember rebecca mentioning how much she loved this character too. i just don't understand why they didn't give her a good treatment after her redemption arc.
@@Bezaliel13 It's not overexposing her, it's just including her properly instead of randomly throwing her in with random lines, in a place where the plot may have even been the same without her.
Hasatanel Belial Loved because of what she was and because of her arc. You can integrate a character better without overexposure. There’s no denying more could’ve been done with her, without damaging the character.
I feel like peridot shouldn't have been just OK when Lapis came back no serious talk or anything she is just FINE with it and that's a potential lost because we are stuck in Stevens perspective we might have seen some kind of talk between the two but NOPE she is just FINE WITH IT, I think Peridot is just going to continue to be the comedy and they have lost there chance from now which makes me sad
Actually, what scene raised a lot of toxic redflags- I found myself in toxic relationship where after an particulally bad argument, my best friend left me for weeks, making me wonder if they are even alive, and then promptly returning without adressing the past. And i didnt talked about what happened too, for fear of making them leave again. Hopefully, Crewniverse will adress this. I have complete faith in them, we cant let Peri continue to be Lapises ragdoll.
Nah, they treat it like it's a good thing. Lapis is so obviously toxic with Peridot, but crew do not see it, even though they are the one who is writing it.
When I watched the whole diamond thing the scene where lapis comes back from the moon reminded me of that time when lapis first came to the barn, acted mean to peridot and even broke her recorder only to solve the problem by lapis asking her if she was OK. I like their friendship but these scenes just disappointed me
Yeah HARD OUT I wanted to see Peridot hurt and angry at Lapis then Lapis having to gain Peridot's trust back over the course of a few episodes giving the show the PERFECT opening for a possible FUSION BETWEEN THEM BUT N O O O O O O they probably won't
Yo, Peridot wasn't just okay, she literally went through that whole ass depression. But I think she understands why Lapis did that. She cares about Lapis way too much to resent her for leaving her, so why wouldn't she understand Lapis' reasoning behind it? She even acknowledges Lapis' trauma and always asks if she's okay. Hell, she even gets nervous when Jasper is brought up around Lapis.
Question, when peridot got poofed the first time why didn’t her outfit change? Do gems need to want to change their form or does it just happen, even if it’s only a little bit?
Peridot is my favorite character and I couldn’t agree more. It was just such a bummer every episode to see such potential not just be wasted but actively killed. When Steven declares that Peridot was a Crystal Gem, it was a really big deal as she was the first character we’d ever seen on the show join this group and change the lineup. I was so excited to see how the dynamic on missions would change with this new character. I couldn’t wait for the future stories they could tell with her now being a part of the main cast. A new person living in the temple? I wonder if she’ll get a room! Then of course as you said it all just fell apart. Peridot decided to stay at the barn rather than go to the temple. Lapis was introduced and redeemed right away. And from that point on there was no more “Peridot”. There was only “Lapis and Peridot.” Everything they did would be as a duo. It was like the writers thought that Peridot couldn’t be a Crystal Gem as long as Lapis wasn’t, despite already being one! There was that “New Crystal Gems” episode that had Connie say that they’d never be true members of the team and that just pissed me off, because Peridot literally was not too long ago! It all culminated in Peridot finally getting her star. A thing that had been built up for so long since she’d been a Crystal Gem for so long led to her getting her star at the exact same time as Lapis, a character who had literally just declared herself a Crystal Gem. It’s so sad.
As much as I LOVE Peridot, I really agree. She has so much potential in the beginning because she was a villain who was smart and sneaky. But it was like once she lost her limb enhancers she lost her entire personality. She could have been such an asset to what went on in homeworld or just anything technological since she's a computer nerd.
I think this is a very accurate description of Peridot's character. She really did have an amazing villain and redemption arc, and could easily have benefited the crystal gems. I think the people who made it either forgot about her, or that she would be TOO useful to them and they wanted the crystal gems to struggle more. Idk but I do feel like they could and should have done much better with her character but they didn't
It’s sad when you’re favorite,MOST LOVABLE character is ignored the most. No wonder why the crewniverse made her so cocky, she never gets enough attention
At least Peridot had her initial character tension with the crystal gems directly discussed/resolved and appeared in more than 25 episodes (cough cough Lapis)
@Green Manatee I definitely agree with you here. In my honest opinion, Lapis is the one who has truly not earned her place with the Crystal Gems (even though I still have a bit of fondness towards her, but not by much) and is even more of a wasted character than Peridot. I feel that SliceofOtaku covered it perfectly in one of his earlier videos from a year or two back.
@@sadtitties222 Yeah it's pretty frustrating how often the show ignored her character growth/development. After revealing that the crystal gems apparently knew that Lapis was conscious/trapped inside the mirror yet still used her as a tool (basically slavery) instead of freeing her, your THINK they'd dedicate AT LEAST an episode or 2 to clarify and talk about these fucked up implications, particularly how much they did/didn't actually know about the mirror. Instead of fridging her so soon with Malachite, they could've focused on this interesting/fucked up unresolved tension, which could've branches off into other interesting plot lines like Lapis exploring/learning to appreciate the ocean or getting to bond with some of the local residents like Greg, Connie, Sadie, or Jamie (though knowing him, he'd probably end up with a restraining order by the end of the episode lol). Hell, they could even have Lapis find empathy with the bubbled corrupted gems since she 's already experienced imprisonment and feels motivated to help find a way to heal them.. This way we get to know her a bit better and her tragedy with the mirror gets more time to be discussed and resolved before dumping another dark issue like Malachite (or at the very least focus more on this branch of character development after the Malachite arc). Even though it is nice to see her in a more relaxed state with peridot at the barn, I feel like isolating her from the rest of the cast and setting kinda screwed her over from appearing in more episodes and fleshing out her character dynamics with the majority of the cast (outside of Steven and Peridot). Which is a shame since she could've easily been a huge game-changer for the show's status quo and character Dynamics since she's literally the first non-corrupted homeworld gem that appeared in the series (pretty early on at episode 25) and she has a pretty messed up backstory with the crystal gems that brought an interesting, yet underutilized new perspective to the show considering she still adores Steven for saving/healing her despite her baggage with the crystal gems.
It's honestly amazing how Lapis has been around the longest out of any gem that's not part of the main cast and yet is still the least developed. They've had five whole seasons to build her character and it still doesn't really feel like it's actually gone anywhere. She just sort of shows up and does what the plot demands and only has any sort of character dynamic with a whopping two characters on the show. It's been so long I just can't bring myself to care about her anymore.
Fans: More episodes with Peridot being useful please! And more episodes about Home World and the looming Diamond threat. Crewniverse: Okay but how bout instead of doing that here's more towny episodes and filler.
I honestly do miss peridot honestly. In the time she was actually important, she became a big part of just me in general. Seeing her, a small gem who seemed useless and small being so happy and great.. I loved seeing her. She is one of the characters who I remember from my childhood, and a character who has helped me through many things. Seeing lapis leave, I thought she would be able to experience more with the gems. But she was cast away and ignored, despite being in the room next to where they found out rose was pink diamond. Did she not hear sapphire?? Like damn. I miss her alot. :(
Now that Jasper Arc is supposed to come up, i hope Peri will be part of it. And if Peridot would start spending time with Jasper, i imagine Lapis will not react all that well- Showcasing that she still needs development that can be delivered in time. Aaa, soo many great characters, soo little time.
If there's a new season, i really want it to be around Greg. "Mister Universe", just a bunch of stories Greg *didn't* tell Steven. Just his life when he was around the Crystal Gems, trying to help the Gems, talking with the Gems (not including Pearl), his life with Vidalia, and his relationship with Rose. I know Steven was the main focus, but Greg is the only human that really knew *ANYTHING* about Gems. And I think it would be cool to hear his albums, like released in stores, CDs. Yeah
@Nikx24 honestly, I wouldn't mind that honestly. We would finally get to flesh out the characters of the gems and Rose without that pesky Steven only perspective. It has the potential to be great!
I didn't like steven universe really until that first episode with Peridot. I am glad someone is making a video of how she went to waste she was a character that made me stay with the show but stopped finding her interesting after the cluster arc.
Garnet is the reason why I started watching the show! But I feel like this show have more than just one break out character, like look a all of them! I love them all~
@Nikx24 Every line she says is gold, but that is thanks to her being used sparingly. Using her too much would have possibly made people sick of her wackiness.
@Nikx24 I understand that people wished the Crystal Gems had gotten Peridot to be more involved, but I am still glad that the show avoided overexposure.
It's like she doesn't exist to be honest. She was, in a way, meant to be our eye into Homeworld. Garnet left homeworld before Pink Diamond was shattered, Pearl only knows of Pink and Rose, and couldn't even talk about it, and Amethyst was born on earth. It would've been interesting to know more about homeworld and get an idea of it, so maybe Steven could be more scared, or more relaxed, or comment on Peridot's words.
I think Peridot is a wonderful character. I think the Crewniverse is just waiting for a good moment to have character development along with Bismuth and Lapis.
I just want Peridot to have a quality conversation with the Crystal Gens about what’s happened. Same with Lapis. Regular conversations with them being interrupted aren’t something we see enough of.
Honestly I don't think I would even be that mad if it weren't for the fact that she's just been reduced to comic relief. She's always been funny and quirky, sure, but there was always a more serious side to her which is just completely lacking lately.
One thing I love is that Steven tells Peridot when you get a present you should say, "Wow, thanks!" Peri yells at him, blah blah blah. But, after that every time she gets a present (that I can remember) she says, "Wow, thanks!"
Lapis was the biggest waste in my opinion And it really annoyed me how they almost completely dropped the amedot relationship They could have really helped each other Amethyst helping Peri with being defective and Peri boosting Amethyst's confidence But nothing Absolutely nothing Even the idea sounds like something the show should have Earth gem x Homeworld gem
Peridot was the reason I watched the show in the first place. So yeah. It was sad to see her being shoved to the sidelines. I just hope they handle her character with more care and with the same level of maturity in season 6 as they did during her redemption arc.
With how little actually happened to Peridot, especially compared to the other townies that got way more spotlight that went no where, she still manages to be my favourite character just because of how I relate to her.
I agree with you, Peridot wasn't used for her full potential and neither was Lapis or Jasper. I feel the only reason they didn't show up more is a combination of money constraints, needing to save for the Diamonds huge run and time. If the series was original given 6 seasons and they planned for 6 instead of 5, then we could have gotten more character development in all of the gems. Hopefully we get more in the next season.
Peridot has been my favorite character since her introduction, and for every episode I watched after her redemption arc was over, the more disappointed I became and the more I began to miss her old character. Heck, I miss her character before her redemption arc even more, her old design with the limb enhancers, and all the Canada memes after the season 1 finale
I wish the crewniverse gave her a bit more spotlight instead of making her character into a joke after being the first intimidating antagonist in SU. She had so much potential and I hope they revisit that in Season 6 and or the movie. I love Peridot and when the crewniverse make those jokes we got in her story but I feel that she deserved a whole lot more than that
TV Tropes to describe Peridot: Peridot on Earth: _"Fish Out of Water"_ Peridot on Homeworld: _"Stranger in a Familiar Land"_ Peridot on Steven Universe: _"They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character"_
Agreed! Peridot is the whole reason I fell in love with the show from merely liking it and why I'm kinda frustrated in how they handled the finale. A small part in the homework system gets an entire arc, but the leaders of a PLANET get at best a special to turn things around. Honestly given that she got this treatment prior to everyone coming back, I don't really see her having a place after everything that has happened. Where do you even go from here after all the reveals and resolving all those plots?
A character I find similar to Peridot is Sokka from ATLA. Just like her, he was smart, good with technology, brave, the voice of reason and simultaneously the comic relief. Like Peridot had belittling views on the crystal gems, Sokka also had sexist views on female warriors and girls in general. Both of them literally got senses knocked into their heads. But the only difference between the two is that Sokka was ACTUALLY treated like a character. Without having to sacrifice his sarcasm and stupidity, the writers of ATLA wrote Sokka as a valuable character of the team. Peridot could have been exactly that - someone who has little to no actual powers compared to her friends, but is still powerful as heck because of her brains and her technology. She is still my favourite character and it's just heartbreaking to see such a great character being thrown to the side.
With as smart as Peridot is you would think she would come up with a more clever way of using her limited powers and not just carry around a trash can lid.
Periot was wasted to an extent, but feel there were alot of characters wasted to that degree, fusions the most because they chose expensive voice actors for no reason, if they didnt, fusions could have been fleshed out as the new people they are supposed to be instead of just a cheap tactic like jasper said. We only got more in depth insight on smoky, garnet, stevonnie and sardonyx (kind of by extention of smoky). Even a line from sugalite when they fused when garnet was mad at pearlcoulld have given better insight to her character. Because in that case they fuse, but unfuse immediately after, what mindset would sugalite have to be in to just unfuse so easily? I feel like a line from her would have further emphasized how much pearl messed up. We know nothing about opal. knowing more could give us more insight on amethyst and pearl, not that we need it but it would be nice. We got 3 new fusions, obsidian basically mute (which is fine since there are so many gems in her), with rainbow and sunstone being quirky items instead of characters. And alexandrite is just kind of obsolite now, and we didnt even see her weapon (im bitter because she is my favorite fusion). And two of the 4 times they fuse she's instantly beaten (by aquamarine and blue) But on actual characters, bismuth was kind of wasted. She just came around to everything so fast and barely had any kind of developement beyond shifting her ideology in an instant. Lapis, still my favorite character, but her arc is dragged on for the entire series, which isnt necessarily bad, but it wasnt because of long runningstory beats, it was sseveral instances of her just being abscent. she leaves, comes back with jasper, fuses to the bottom of the ocean, is out of commission, then is stuck at the barn. These pauses make sense and her mellowing out at the barn only to be re triggered as soon as stuff happens again also makes sense, theres still just alot of lapis not doing anything. peridots downfall is worse though still because peridot should have alot more involvement. lapis actively distances herself from it all.
I like Peridot the way she is. She didn’t “Lose Potential”, she became part of the family. I have Autism, so I really connected with Peridot during her redeption and how she and Lapis lived. She acted just like me and she’s the reason I started to LOVE the show.
Peridot is one of my absolute favorite characters in the show and I'm kind of sad that her character development was handled so poorly after a certain point in the show. She deserved more screen time in which she'd actually be relevant to the story's plot.
To be honest even in the episode Change Your Mind when Peridot, Bismith and Lapis finally showed up they were absent during White Diamonds speech and her eventual redemption and didn't show up at all until White Diamond calmed down it would've been nice if they were all present during that whole scene or at least came to aid Steven and the rest of the gems earlier.
I respect your conclusion, and I can see some of the points, have to admit that after seeing you whole video it’s really well put. I would have loved to seen her more in the show. But I still love her so much
And imagine if Peridot had been punched by Yellow Diamond instead of blasted. The force,if it didn't shatter her, could have possibly become a cracked Gem.
I've been thinking about this a lot lately. When I first started watching the show, Peridot was my favourite character, but after the Cluster arc she just kinda faded into the background and lost a lot of the qualities that made me like her in the first place. I still love her but I feel like she was robbed and could have been a lot more involved with the Crystal Gems than she ended up being.
It seems like Spinel ended up replacing Peridot as the breakout character later down the road but she still got love alongside Lapis Lazuli since their both unique personalities however, they still had flaws and their fair share of interesting and weaker roles.
I wish she still had her limb enhancers so she could’ve participated more in fights instead of just standing there or doing a couple things every now and then
Imagine if she made new limb enhancers mid fight by wrapping metal around her arms and legs to save someone or something. The new limb enhancers would look different but also probably work differently. Like maybe during the fight they’re more like weapons? And when she isn’t fighting she changes them so they work best for whatever she is doing. If she can metal bend then she can add whatever she wants to them, honestly that would’ve been so cool imo.
The problem with the character development in Steven Universe is that after each character completes their arc, they basically are just dragged around like props because the show has no idea what to do with them anymore. The only exception to this so far is Garnet, who never really had a character arc and mainly exists as a stereotypical leader/gag character/exposition dump. Sapphire and Ruby have more of a character arc than Garnet herself--that is, the same character arc repeated over and over like 3 times total so far of them separating and reuniting. If the writers had actually planned out the show better, all characters would've ended their arcs at around the same time when the show ends, but no, now, every single character has completed their arc, including the side characters, and they're still trying to pump life into the show.
wow, i actually never knew why i don’t pay attention to peridot that much, even after the episode reunited. all of what you said is surprisingly what i thought about peridot. heck she didn’t do anything interesting in steven universe future. she was just, there to be a character
Tbh she was the main reason I got into the show and honestly I think she's not the worst in terms of wasted potential. Hell, look at characters who got barely any screen time like Topaz and Aquamarine. All of those characters who were in like one episode and never spoken of again. It's one of the biggest problems with the show. Peridot at least had her own arc and had a large segment of a season devoted to her. But I do agree that I wish she wasn't used as just the comic relief so often...
Peri is my all-time favorite character, and I agree with you that she's kinda become a wasted character when she has such a great potential. Just wish we can see more of her involvement in the crystal gems in the future episodes.
I do agree to everything u say. In my opinion, honestly, I think her absence is much like meeting a distant cousin. At first you might disagree w each other, then u might get along, and afterward they leave and u simply know they exist. And I like it this way! This (to me) makes her seem like her own person w her own problems, of which she deals w off screen w lapis. She's an accessory to the crystal gems story (Rn) but her own story is pretty complicated if you think about it
The reason peridot became such a rare novelty is because she is the only character that had an actual character arc that came through and showed real growth unlike any other character(except maybe(kinda(not really))amethyst). She no longer had a reason to exist and couldn’t be used any further.
The missed potential we see in Peridot is exactly why I hope that if we get any more Steven Universe content someday, that Steven isn't in it. I want to focus on the gems
I wish we saw more of how Peridot was affected by Lapis leaving, about her not being as strong as everyone else. I wish we could actually see her cry without any comedy that isn't because some higher gem is making her. She deserves something more than what the crewniverse has done to her. I can't believe they're ok with this.
honestly i totally agree. steven universe is one of my favourite shows, and it’s always been a huge comfort to me, whenever i feel sad i just rewatch my favourite episodes and i feel better but peridot felt so,, thrown away. she’s one of my favourite episodes and i absolutely adore her character arc but we don’t see her that often and i wish that they’d done more with her character
I want to say thank you for posting this video. I am writing a an AU version of Steven Universe where Steven is not raised by the gems but Greg as a single father and is pulled into the gem world by Peridot after acccidenlty crossing paths with her. I was trying to figure out how to work some major ars, such as the back to the moon, zoo arc, and abduction arc, into the plot with Peridot having a bigger role than some side character and becomes more than just a token character. In my story, I am going to have Peridot become more of a protector and a mentor to Steven as he learns of his true Homeworldian heritage and what he must face in the future.
I blame Lapis, her role in the series not the character please don't attack me. Her character arch pretty much killed Peridots and the ending of Lapis' arch was so unsatisfactory for both characters. Peri was pretty much the only character that got me watching SU but after Lapis came back she became her brow-beaten waifu who got abandoned and made homeless by her closest friend, which will never be addressed now because Lapis helped save the day after suddenly gaining courage out of nowhere despite all that talk of fear and guilt of abandoning people over and over. It just felt like after how emotionally driven Lapis' arch was the conclusion was explained away with action sequences.
You are so so right. I loved every time Peridot showed up, but that was because I MISSED her. Everything would have been even better with her in it. It actually feels like they came up with the main concept for the latest few seasons of the show BEFORE they thought up Peri. And then they just tried to splice her in, without changing nearly enough things. Peridot became a side priority compared to the main plot, and she didn't HAVE to be, and that just makes it suck so much more... I will always love my little slice of pie, no matter how many barns they throw her into
You're completely right. But it's not just Peridot, all of the new Crystal Gems are being cast aside. The Crystal Gem lineup has been expanded since the series' beginning (with Connie, Peridot, Lapis Lazuli and Bismuth) but the show won't shine light away from the original four, leading to none of them getting any of their own stories told, except for Connie. Garnet, Amythest, Pearl and ESPECIALLY Steven have already gotten enough character development to last the rest of the series, but the new Crystal Gems seem to only serve the purpose of making the Earth army bigger to make it seem less implausible that they could take on an entire enemy planet. We literally don't know anything about Bismuth aside from the fact that she's a blacksmith and likes fighting, but now that she's calmed down upon learning about Steven's truth, what are her new ambitions? We know as much about her as we did the original Gems at the start of the series. What Peridot, Lapis and Bismuth need is more time in the spotlight. Since they showed up late in the series, they have a LOT of catching up to do in terms of development. Hopefully they'll get their just desserts. (I don't know if that's the correct expression)

I can understand large casts can be difficult to write for but it's unfortunate that we miss some great development for them especially after their reunion and previous split at least some conflict should have come out of that
Shut the hell up
@@benkile6310 no
I think the true reason Peridot's not focused is that, like everyone else, she's shoved aside because in the end, this show is from Steven's POV and has to have Steven in every episode without certain people or gems.
But what about stronger than you?
@Julayla And that is one of the biggest problems with this show. The "STEVEN ONLY" perspective needs to stop, like, now.
But then why not put Peridot as a part of the main cast, following the rest of the gems
That's no excuse. Why would only the original Crystal Gems be in focus? Why must their family be stagnet, the status quo the same?
It's possible for the main character to not appear in a single episode. Bojack Horseman did that, Harley Quinn also did it too.
as much as i adore this character, you've put all my thoughts into words. throughout watching her as a character, i'd often ask questions as to, "why wasn't she included in this, it's the perfect opportunity?" or "why wasn't she poofed here, it was the perfect opportunity" my friend noticed this too, as we often watched together. hopefully the newer seasons bring us more peridot actually engaging in some sort of mission or fight, and or making up for the wasted potential.
bismuth made connie a sword, so why hasn't she made weapons for the two gems that don't have any defense besides their natural powers? anyways, she really had potential, but the crewniverse just ignored it, and it honestly really sucks, because i've been attached to her, along with so many other people, and every time she'd appear it'd be like,, "i waited all this time to see her again, to see her interact with something, face something.. just for that?" it's strange because i remember rebecca mentioning how much she loved this character too. i just don't understand why they didn't give her a good treatment after her redemption arc.
hmm... one look at that picture and i think peridot is talking about herself again
yay
"But she *likely* would have been hated if she had gotten overexposed." - me
@@Bezaliel13 It's not overexposing her, it's just including her properly instead of randomly throwing her in with random lines, in a place where the plot may have even been the same without her.

Adding to my previous statement, she was underutilized and is *LOVED* by us all.
Actually, what scene raised a lot of toxic redflags-
I found myself in toxic relationship where after an particulally bad argument, my best friend left me for weeks, making me wonder if they are even alive, and then promptly returning without adressing the past.
She got proofed twice but, she's better now.
Question, when peridot got poofed the first time why didn’t her outfit change? Do gems need to want to change their form or does it just happen, even if it’s only a little bit?
@@ariskinner5802 no it didn't. However, she lost her Limb Enhancers
@@ariskinner5802 *POOPED* !?!?!?
pooped.
kahleil bruzual ahah oops. 😂 I’ll change it now.
Yeah Pearl is in ancient tech while Peridot is into modern tech
I think this is a very accurate description of Peridot's character. She really did have an amazing villain and redemption arc, and could easily have benefited the crystal gems. I think the people who made it either forgot about her, or that she would be TOO useful to them and they wanted the crystal gems to struggle more. Idk but I do feel like they could and should have done much better with her character but they didn't
Hell, how many Crystal Gem missions has she been in?
oh nooo...aquamarine and peridot rivalry wouldve been so GOOD and now im Sad
I can also see Garnet as the break out character too being a popular pick for cosplayers.

I hope so
If theres a new season

I understand that people wished the Crystal Gems had gotten Peridot to be more involved, but I am still glad that the show avoided overexposure.

Unfortunately, I have to agree.

Peridot to Crewniverse:
I had so much potential you CLOD
Peridot shoving Greg off the roof was gold. Poor Greg, though, he's one of my favourite characters XD
“ Peridot had a really great fall “
Peridot: * falls *
And two of the 4 times they fuse she's instantly beaten (by aquamarine and blue)
But on actual characters, bismuth was kind of wasted.
Peridot used to be my favorite character, and then suddenly she just became meh... Now I know why
Peridot was really one of the only characters to recieve a complete character arc
The green Dorito quickly grew to be one of my favorites as soon as she stepped out into the Rain and Called yellow diamond a Clod-to her face
I respect your conclusion, and I can see some of the points, have to admit that after seeing you whole video it’s really well put. I would have loved to seen her more in the show. But I still love her so much
Peridot had such a great character development
i think lapis was wasted more than peridot, at peridot got to do stuff lapis did next to nothing and was part villian when she was fused with jasper
"Peridot is a wasted character. Change my mind." *coffee slurp and ukulele chords*
The key to a good breakout character is having them break other characters.
It seems like Spinel ended up replacing Peridot as the breakout character later down the road but she still got love alongside Lapis Lazuli since their both unique personalities however, they still had flaws and their fair share of interesting and weaker roles.
connie gets a sword while peridot flies around in a trash can lid
To be honest, almost every character in Steven Universe has wasted potential but you do make a point.
That's why I liked Save the Light, Peridot actually got to be part of the team.
She's an accessory to the crystal gems story (Rn) but her own story is pretty complicated if you think about it
There's always hope Peridot will continue her development in season 6, after the movie.
The reason peridot became such a rare novelty is because she is the only character that had an actual character arc that came through and showed real growth unlike any other character(except maybe(kinda(not really))amethyst). She no longer had a reason to exist and couldn’t be used any further.
I have a hunch that, actually, the Steven Universe Movie is going to be a slice-of-life with Peridot as the protagonist.
That would be awesome!
FINALLY!!!!!! Someone had to say it! Thank you
I want to say thank you for posting this video.
What's the name of the fanfic?
I've come back to this channel in a long while. Every thing has gotten alot better.
The movie was a missed opportunity to give Peri, Bismuth and Lapis a bit of the spotlight
I will always love my little slice of pie, no matter how many barns they throw her into
I started watching Steven Universe because of Peridot.
I swear there was more tension and fear durning Peridots beginning episodes than we ever felt on Homeworld.
Peridot: HEY CLOUDS!!! REMEMBER ME!?!?
bismuth: u got guts, tiny!
Bismuth: DIS BIH EMPTY,
*_YEET_*
