1. That 'fake' speaker is a passive radiator. Very common technique instead of a bass port. Benefits is the air pressure inside a closed box and the area of the radiator is much larger than a regular bass port can be to be effective. 2. To avoid solder gets into the female connector, put a male connector into it (maybe with some non sticky oil stuff on it) to be sure the solder cannot flow and stick inside the female connector.
as other have said, that dummy speaker is a passive radiator. they are used instead of ports and perform the same function, namely to tune the speaker to a desired frequency on the low end. the port does this with the actual column of air taken up by the port (the longer the port the more air that will act as a "spring"), while the radiator does it with a physical membrane (adding mass to the membrane is the equivalent of lengthening the port). the reason they were not used and hardly ever seen in consumer products is because they add cost when compared to port, which is basically just a molded plastic tube. however, the big advantage of using radiators is saving space in designs which are designed to be as small as possible.
Ooh, got a little crazy with a knife or something sharp I see. Thanks for the video. My son really cranked on this little speaker of his while hooking up charging wire, mine wasn't as technical as yours but the video still helped tremendously. Much appreciated!
Nice video! When you slightly damaged the pad/PCB I've got some tips to avoid that. To avoid a lifted land, the temperature and tip of the iron is important. For example, If you're working on some big through hole components where the pad is large instead of increasing the temperature, which has a higher chance of getting a lifted land, of the iron you can use a PCB heater which pre-heats a board so the solder flows better and you don't have to solder at higher temperatures. Also when re flowing solder it is best practise to put some flux on first.
Thanks for the video, but I'm not good at soldering this is a little complicated for me. I just fill they have cheap connector parts. My shouldn't have broken that easy and sad to say it's hard to contact the company for repairs
On the back...it's a reflex pad, some call them radiators) which replaces the bass chamber and works in sync with the other speakers They work very well indeed. My solution to a weak but connected anchor is a very small blob of two part epoxy. Works a treat and can be removed.
That pad in the middle of the speaker isn't there for show it actually moves when the speakers do for more bass it works by the air the speakers produce
Great fix! Thanks Graham! I will have to watch your other video on the JBL speaker similar repair. Think half the trouble is taking it apart! Is it better to replace the charge port with a matching one, or use an existing USB cable, and solder the end wires to the board? Thank you 🤓
I replace ports, but I know people who will often just solder a USB cable in for a quick and dirty (cheap) fix. Nothing wrong with either method, just depends on what quality of finish is important to you.
@@Adamant_IT got a hold of a Sylvania 16 inch Bluetooth speaker. Unit seems to work, but the charge port has been broken off, so as it is, it can't be properly recharged! Thank you
How to convert that bluetooth speaker into wire direct plug using its charger. Instead of using micro usb charger? Due to tha pcb diagram were damage/ scratch.
I have had two phones ,7 portable speakers over 5 year's im not rough with them but when you plug them twice a day have gone the same way these stupid micro usb sockets I hope usb c is better to work with.
Hello can you tell me where the plsitive amd negative contacts are on the patch? I have a like new BT speaker my son damaged the charger pprt on beyond replacement. So i wanna just hard wire a usb wire to it.
Hi there, accroding to online reviews the speaker I just bought is prone to charging port failure. Do you think I could prevent it to happen by opening the case and using glue gun to reinforce the port? It won't be beautiful but I doubt I could do such delicate soldering work as you did if it is broken in the future.
question i had a charger socket but when I took apart speaker it was nowhere to be found anyone know how to figure out what kind is needed or they are essentially the same and form is only thing that matters? like the through hole vs surface mount like he mentions at 7:12
How can I fix mine because the inside of the usb is broken and I can’t charge it, I have another speaker I don’t use bc it’s not Bluetooth and I can take that usb off it but I don’t know how to
Adamant IT my bt speaker just fell from my hands and broke. It is turning off and on but is not able to connect to the phone and pick up signals. Please tell what I should do
My usb port got disconnected from the main board and wasn't charging my earphones. I tried superglue and ofcourse it didn't work. I dont have the tools to fix but this looks quite interesting. Maybe I will invest in one
Question. The usb snapped off the board of my Bluetooth speaker. When I took it apart, looks like it's still ok. Can I just resodder it on or do I need to buy a new one? And is there anything special I should know.
You can probably solder on a new one if you have the equipment for it. It's not a easy job for a novice, but if you've got any soldering experience, it's certainly possible!
Guys does anyone know what to do if your volkano tornado speaker doesn't want to turn on .because I left it on while charging overnight and now it doesn't want to turn on
What if the inside of the port is really bent and badly damaged what tools do I need to replace the and where do I buy it from the actually new port to install in our the Bluetooth device
You need at least a good soldering iron and moderate skill with it. Replacement ports can be found on ebay. These speakers usually have generic SMD Micro USB ports, so it doesn't need to be specifically for the device you're fixing.
Why do ABSOLUTELY NONE of these videos show the broken USB port REMOVAL??? They ALL do the removal OFF CAMERA!!! WHY??? That's the part I need help with. Jeez, anyone can freakin solder... Show the removal!!!
Hi.... Plz advice on problem "while I was doing soldering on charging port, I forgot to remove the battery wire, soldering ion melts and drops on the base of port and it contect circuit and becomes hot that time and now it is working. Plz explain how to diagnose and what may be the problem. Finally requesting for your phone contact for better explanation. Thanks

Cool video. Same thing happened on my speaker. Wish I had all the tools necessary to repair it. Looks very interesting
No wonder the connections break so easily. They have the smallest amount of weld holding them in place.

That's a passive woofer. I experimented on my monster speaker trying it with and without and it actually does help the bass.
The "bass speaker" is a passive radiator.
It's a passive speaker, I think they call it a radiator

parts list would have been great. Video was fun to watch. most soldering vids use the brownish clear goop still not sure what it is.

What kind of speaker is in the video ??
No one in My Town Repairs Bluetooth Speakers; "Not worth Their Time or too Expensive." Well It's Worth it to ME dammit; Sentimental-Value.

3:15 the passive radiator!! it helps dampening sound.
5:47 you nearly melted that audio port! use capton tape to avoid damaging neighbour components.
The long thing that look like a speaker its for the bass
That 'fake speaker' is called a "passive radiator" it's for letting audio through while increasing water resistance
I did a few of mine and also used gorrila glue epoxy and it’s hard as a rock now I glue all of mine when I get them new
could you possibly do one of these on the neocore wave tsunami? Thank you!
Precisely the repair I need for my Sony SRS X3 Bluetooth Wireless Speaker, but I can't find anywhere that does this type of work. Any ideas??

It serves a purpose.. take it an tape to body so can't move. Play sound
