Hint : When you need to place a charging port, instead of using twist, just insert the cable in and hold it. You can position it the most easiest way ever.
Working on doing this for an eye massager. Best video I have ever seen of teaching people how to solder. You clearly explained it, and even entertained us.
Well I must say when I tore down my own gadget to discover a broken micro-USB port, I was a bit intimidated. But then I saw this and I'm like well if this guy can do it mucking about like that then anyone can 😂
micro USB is garbage. Always bad connections and break too easy. Why didn't they keep the mini USB? Way stronger and just a little bit thicker. USB-C is very sturdy and don't break as easly as micro USB. I like USB-C. Never had an issue with them, but it might be a pain to replace because of the hidden pins that you can't see and don't have access to, so you kinda have to pray that they are soldered underneath the connector.
From what I seen u do, I take it and correct me if I'm wrong. I wouldn't be able to reuse a usb port from another similar device onto another one. Would it be because of the what u have to melt to connect it to the motherboard???
so i have the micro usb 3 connector which is weak or has a dry/cold connection on my external hard drive's pcboard should i bother with it? or should i rather save the pain and buy a new pcboard?
What temperature hot air (celcius) did you use to remove the buttons and usbc port? I know you said 380 but that would be a very low temp in farenheit.
Hi, good vidéo! how did you figure it was the USB port? I have a generic Switch controller that does not blink at all when plugging. Opening it, Ivsaw that câbles to the battery were pinched Somewhere too. So I have 2 suspects...😅
I trew away , my nillkin night stand and magic disk 4...its the worst design , there is no best except that it was the standard in very thing....but it's bassicly 2 complete perfect product in the trash can just because I moved them....🙀
Micro USB isn’t the most durable port. I am hoping that USB Type-C is more resilient to damage, but I am worried about the connecting pins inside that sticks out like a tongue. I wish it were more like Apple’s Lightning Connector, because there’s nothing sticking out to become loose overtime.
Love you video. I wonder if you can go over a RPI 4 usb, i want to know what all the pins are, i need to solder some wire to the PCB but cant find any good video or info on it
Hello, good video. I'm very rookie, but, i'm curageos too. I need to replace a micro usb like u, in a portable speaker. Tell me please, what tool u use it....btw, nice singing
OH GOD! I've tried to fix the micro USB charger port in my music thing. Things were just too small for my fingers... Six attempts and I just couldn't make it work. I even tried hot glue it in place so at least it will charge one last time before I throw it to the bin. I guess I'll keep my Carpetnry skills to work and buy a new one, my hands were not made in China... It was fun to try though
Can i ask something? Is it possible to damage other components while you solder something? For example you.. When you soldered the USB port, was there any chance to damage resistors, capacitors, ICs maybe?
Is it possible to ban micro usb use in my country ? Damn these stupid 4 pins... Tried to revive a motherboard but made the stupid move to just try to glue it straight on until the connection with another piece was working... Damn I made fast and stupid moves sometime. Killed the thing completely. It's just a power in why they made it so bad all you need is 2 simple pins easy to solder nah.... Lets make fancy 4 pins with another 4 pins connections small af.
Thank you for the laughs and instructions that goes with it. I also sing when im at my hobby lobby. For me that helps to get away from my wife when she has a narcissistic rage episode. ❤️🇳🇱
Don't know much about electronic repairs BUT...IDo know how to secure that pcb to the desk...BLUTACK! Blutack on the end of small paintbrush handle will also allow you to position and hold the terminal in place for soldering... seriously...get some blutack!
fair warning: he maies it look far easier than it is back here after a burn and basocally breaking the thing. Tested on something not valuable. and broken already, and good that i did. Be careful)
I destroyed last month a nillkin stand and my magic disk4 because the micronusb...I hate micro usb I should have recycled them to a lover, it's really quite ridicolous to destroy it
Hint :

I hate micro usb, they always break.
Mini USBs were always better, they are getting rarer though
Luckily I have one
type-c gang
They was mafe 2

An eye massager sounds like a terrifying device!
The biggest problem is when they are not attached to the board well and rip off the PCB tracks when they come off. Had it happen to my MiST computer.
Even if the repair failed, your energy and humor would have deserved a thumbs up!
I could do with a lot more energy to get me through this weekend 🤣
you could plug a usb cable ( bad one if you have ) to position the new connector and to avoid the tin solder to go inside the new connector
Brilliant 👆👆👆👆
That is a great idea @snitra, thanks for that.

Electronics magnifying stand with crocodile clips.
Yes, it has changed my life. Lol. I wish I was kidding, but I cannot believe I ever tried to solder such a tiny thing as a micro usb port without it.
From what I seen u do, I take it and correct me if I'm wrong. I wouldn't be able to reuse a usb port from another similar device onto another one. Would it be because of the what u have to melt to connect it to the motherboard???
i wasn't having a very good time until you started riffing Tull. Nice fix.
We all need more tull in our lives!
so i have the micro usb 3 connector which is weak or has a dry/cold connection on my external hard drive's pcboard
should i bother with it?
or should i rather save the pain and buy a new pcboard?
You have nothing to lose in trying to repair it
Wow you make it seem so easy. Can I ask at what heat your heatgun is set to and fan speed?
500 degrees C, maximum flow
@@backofficeshow thanks I'll try that. I was at 385 and not getting anywhere lol.
The micro usb on my fpv drone flight controller broke...I tried to solder it on, then I pulled the micro usb off, ripping the pads off :(
What if the joint points on the board don't exist any more? No metal to weld to.
You use kynar wire and solder to where the trace originally went
@@backofficeshow can I use flux instead?
@@JusticePreyHDM to replace wire? Unfortunately not
What temperature hot air (celcius) did you use to remove the buttons and usbc port? I know you said 380 but that would be a very low temp in farenheit.
We use Celsius
Thanks, you helped me fix my board. You're a funny lad. You made getting high on led a little more enjoyable.

I have a generic Switch controller that does not blink at all when plugging. Opening it, Ivsaw that câbles to the battery were pinched Somewhere too. So I have 2 suspects...😅
I don't really remember, it's likely it would only work when I wiggled it or similar
Where can I order that replacement cable? I've been looking EVERYWHERE for a Mini/Micro USB to 3.5mm audio for my Sony HDR-PJ540 camera.
Well done, I tried a job like this a few weeks ago, ripped the tracks up ruined the board. I guess I just dont have the skills.
It might be possible to recover by gluing a port into it and running kynar wires to where the tracks were terminating
"straddles it like an exotic dancer" 💃🕺😂
That was fun. :)
Micro USB and HDMI are one of the best and worse designs of modern technology.
Definitely. Useful, but utterly awful when they break!

whats the name of the tool you use to melt the usb
nvm i found it : electrict soldering iron
What a brilliant how to video. Learning something and having a laugh along the way. Cheers :D
That's always the best way 😂
Thanks for the demo. You remind me of the tuber Nerd Cubed.
happen to know where I could find a usb module for the quick charge usb port? Mine went out and think I may try and replace
I would suggest having a look on the RS, digikey or mouser websites for one 👍👍
If only I had all your equipment & I've no idea how my Fire tablet opens 😩
Jde místo Micro usb přepájet USB c?
any charging port should be designed for easy replacement, hence it is banged around constantly.
can I just use the poz an neg for changing only?
Yes, it should work

Nicely done! And nice singing too. It's Bungle not Rumble In The Jungle though. Haha. Tull is alright by me! Cheers!
I must have mixed up some Mohammed Ali in there 😂
Extra solder and Jethro Tull is a great combination!
I have a guitar pedal called the “Pod Go” and there USB port is broke would this work to fix that?
It should be similar
I think you're wasting your time with electronics, you were born to be a surgeon.😮
i literally just now, snapped the actually contact part inside a micro usb on a small camera💀
now ive got 2 things ive gotta resolder :(
BTW, it's BUNGLE in the jungle. Love old JT, saw them once in the 80s

My mother named me after Ian Anderson. Jethro Tull was her Favorite 🤘
Awesome! That is pretty cool! 👨🎤
question: why don't you replace the micro usb with usb C port? or is that physically impossible>? :>>>
They tend not to have compatible footprints as USB C has double the number of pins
@@backofficeshow thank you much for replying 😎

thanks for this very helpful :) and funny

Come for the repair skills, stay for the random jokes and joy. By the power of Jethro Tull

port got dislodged within my M9XX DAC/AMP hopefully can fix it using this video
We will see how long that lasts. The correct port is only a few $$.
Put some clear epoxy resin right around the port, will last forever
Alot harder than it looks. U can damage your pcb
Made my grandma laugh
Why aren't you guys using the right port type. so much easier. ;-)
