This is such a great movie and I LOVE James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in these roles a lot. This is actually my second favourite X-Men movie after Days Of Future Past, which I am really looking forward to you guys watching (and please watch the Rogue cut, it's better than the normal cut!)
The trouble is this film screws up the timeline. Alex is supposed to be Scott’s younger brother, but setting this in 1962 makes him old enough to be Scott’s dad.
Originally Raven and Azazel were Nightcrawler's parents in the comics. That was recently retconned. Raven shapeshifted into Azazel and impregnated a woman named Destiny.
Good French and good German. Well, Fassbender is half German, was even born in Heidelberg, but still not a given... Hope to see your reaction to "Days of future past" soon, IMO the best of em all. Watch the Rogue Cut though, the Theatrical Cut doesn't feature her at all.
GREAT movie!! I Still remember watching this in the cinema and thinking: "Damn!! Fassbender is a cool arse Magneto" lol Just finished watching your GotG3 reaction, too 👌🏿
8:24 - Randyll Tarly! (Every once in a while I'll see a Game of Thrones actor in a more modern setting and it takes a bit of effort for me to figure out where I know him from.)
Fun McAvoy fact about this role. He was sooooo excited that he was playing Prof. X, he shaved his head before the start of the shoot. Not knowing this version of Chuck was going to have hair. So it becomes a fun game of wig or not.
Yeah, I love that story! I can see McAvoy, getting excited about a new movie, and he just grabbed the clippers, & Bzzzzzz! LOL. I wish the director had included a part of the 'head buzzed' story into the movie script. Oh, well, it's history now. 🤘😎 Keep Rockin' y'all...
I love the fact that on the day this review drops, I just happen to be wearing my 'Mutant and proud" t-shirt! I remember seeing this in the theater and when Charles gives the "they're just following orders" line, my stomach dropped. For some reason that was the most consequential line of dialogue in the movie for me.
Also, if my memory doesent fail, before "First class" there was a project to make more of "x-men origins". There was at least 3 projects named: Wolverine, Magneto, and Profesor X. But after Wolverine they changed into a new fresh x-men classic line up
In the comics the original "First Class" of Mutants was made up of Cyclops (Scott Summers), Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Angel (Warren Worthington III), Beast (Hank McCoy), and Iceman (Bobby Drake). They would all be introduced in X-Men #1 (1963) alongside Professor X and Magento the main antagonist of this issue. Beast originally looked like a normal human just with large hand and feet. It wasn't until Amazing Adventures vol. 2 #11 (March 1972) that the character would mutate into his now familiar furry, blue (originally grey) appearance. This film also highlights the origins of Professor X and Magneto alongside the founding of the X-Men something that happened years apart in the comics. Charles and Erik met at least a decade or less pier to the creation of the X-Men. Meeting at a psychiatric hospital after the war to help victims of World War 2. They would go separate ways with Charles losing his ability to walk sometime after leaving Erik. He He would open Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and inviting the young Mutants I've mentioned above to join as students, once they graduated a few years later the first X-Men team was formed. Meanwhile Magneto went off to form his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The next big X-Men Era would arrive with Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) a soft reboot after the 60s run. This introduced a new X-Men team with characters like Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler to name a few. Formed by Charles Xavier to rescue the original X-Men, along with characters like Banshee, Havok who joined the X-Men during the later half of the 1960s. This greatly expanded the X-Men roster beyond the original 60s memebers and by the 1980s we would have an iconic X-Men line up that would inspire the movies. In the comics Raven has zero connection to the origins of the X-Men or family connections to Charles Xavier. They never grew up together and Raven was already an adult by the 1880s when she was running around as Sherlock Holmes. So Raven growing up alongside Charles was a creation of the film.
@franconow3092 not always. The Boys show is better than the comic. Same with Invincible. Logan is better than Old Man Logan. Infinity War is better than the Infinity Guantlet.
The thing about non magnetic coins. Magneto doesn't just have magnetic control over metal but magnetic fields in general. Even non-magnetic things can be moved by him if he tries hard enough. It's not easy nor practical most of the time, but it is possible depending on the writers needs.
This is my favorite non Logan X-men movie. In the comics, Charles's first class/team was Jean, Scott, Bobby, Hank, and Warren. Havok is the leader of a government run team called X-factor. He is romantically involved with Erik's daughter Polaris.
I hope y'all watch the cartoon X-Men '97. I think you'll really like it, and it'll help you know the core characters fans are familiar with for the X-Men.
Don't try to think of the X-Men movies as a series or a continuity. its groups, X-men 1-3, the Wolverine movies(origin, 'The', & Logan) and finally the First Class ones.
It's called a Yard Glass (as in: the length of a yard), fun fact: a former prime minister of Australia by the name of Gough Whitlam held the record for drinking a yard the fastest, at least for a little while. Australian politics would be much improved if they introduced speed-drinking a yard as part of our election process.
Nice. This one nicely sets up the genius that is the best X-Men movie of all time, which happily corrects earlier mistakes, and is the last X-Men movie: Days Of Future Past.
In 1962 Prof. Charles Francis Xavier and Mr. Erik Magnus Lehnsherr became to be known as the Founding-Fathers of the Modern Mutant Community Hence they established the Movement with the intention for Mutantkind to prosper in the world however this unity was brought to an end amongst the men because of their fundamental opposing views and philosophy causing the Mutant Community to be fractured and generally be split into two camps those who subscribed to Professor Xavier's moderate message of Mutant-Human Unity (aka Mutant Liberalism) joined with Professor Xavier and those who subscribed to Mr. Lehnsherr's radical message of Mutant Supremacy (aka Mutant Fascism) joined with Mr. Lehnsherr (Magneto)
@@havok6280 Funny. Logan is great but it's not something I want to watch over and over. Every shot of Logan isn't perfectly crafted. But every shot in DOFP is perfectly crafted. For that reason, DOFP is just as addictive to watch as any great James Cameron film

Kind of fun that you watched the movie with the first f-bomb in the MCU and the first in x-men back to back. GotG3, Star Lord: "Then open the fucking door!" X-men, Wolverine: "Go fuck yourselves". And then there's the most recent movie relevant to both, which contains 119 f-bombs. I will not list them all here.
Hello guys. I am excited You started this new side of X-men. Just to chill down a little... Or try to because of the conflicted stories. Just as in the spiderman and Dr. Strange Universe talking about the multiverse but they are connected one way or the other. Here is something called X-Men time lines. There are the titles X-Men, the uncanny X-Men, Astonishing X-Men and so on... Just like the first X-Men You watched. This was a little presentation of the characters. Hey Rob and Trin! What you can't do in the X-Men universe is expect continuity. It was just Fox making up movies because if they didn't, the rights would go back to Marvel. You can just take them all with a grain of salt and not make sense of any of the connections. The Moira you see in X3 was correct - a Scottish geneticist studying mutation. When the Mystic lies in front of Eric, she briefly turns into another girl. This is a cameo by Rebecca Romayne, who played the Mystic in the original trilogy.
Incorrect. Kayla's sister is a version of Emma. Just like Ryan Reynolds's character is a version of Deadpool. The timelines are all a mess. Even the credits refer to her as Emma Frost in that movie...
The next official X-Men film is DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. But...... before you see that, you MUST watch THE WOLVERINE, which is a much better film than origins. It's the post credit scene in that film which lines you up for the next X-Men film!
I know it's going to take a while till you get around to it but when the time comes to watch Days of Future Past you absolutely have to watch the Rogue Cut. For some reason they cut the best scenes from the movie from the theatrical cut.
This is probably the best X-Men movie. 1 and 2 were good introductions, but not really much more in retrospect. The ones you haven't seen yet... range considerably in quality. I don't know how far ahead your actual watching-from-posting-to-RUclips-schedule is.
Oh! I forgot... Before you watch Days Of Future Past. And X-Men Apocalipse... Maybe you can consider watching the series The Gifted... You will see some characters there that need to be known before Days Of Future Past
Ive noticed you don't go with two part reaction anymore. This feels nice. Whats your thoughts on this new gen of Xmen, rob? I enjoyed a lote this new cast for 2 movies.
@@robtrinreact2825 i felt like a good comeback from all the times we Heard Magneto and Charles calling themselves "old friend", and watching how they met and Drive their convictions.
10:58 Kinda cruel that you guys continually mock Azazel's appearance as a demon when that's the same prejudice Nightcrawler faces. (Did you guys forget him? The comparison never came up in the RUclips cut.) 15:15 Don't know if you caught the name of one of those agents but that's William Stryker, Sr. It's sad but true that such xenophobic ideologies can be generational. 22:30 Since this is a generational film about the first class, you do meet a descendant of Banshee in the form of Theresa Cassidy aka Siryn back in X2. During Stryker's mansion invasion, she let out that piercing scream that alerted the whole school about the attack. 33:50 Funny you should repeatedly say that and not piece it together that Alex is Cyclops's older brother. Seems they both have the same struggle with their powers. 35:08 With or without Shaw, this still would've happened. I can't tell if it's just a bit but did you guys know that the Cuban Missile Crisis was a real world historical event? It was the closest the world came to actual nuclear armageddon. 36:56 Actually that's Rebecca Romijn who played the older Mystique from X-Men 1-3. 42:01 Riptide wishes he had Storm's full arsenal. It's not that he chooses not to manipulate the weather in other ways but that he can't. He can only create tornadoes. According to the description, you guys already watched The Wolverine. It's been said and I'm just repeating that you guys should watch the Rogue cut of Days of Future Past. The overall story is the same but I think the Rogue cut has a particular worthwhile payoff that I won't spoil.
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that we absolutely love the channel. It feels good knowing that you read & reply to comments too, even though I'm sure it's time consuming and a pain sometimes 😅 It shows that you care so just wanted to let you know that you are appreciated! ✌️
A little Marvel 101 for you... well, Magneto 101 in this case. Magneto has 2 powers. Control over magnetism, but he can also can control and manipulate all metals. The metal does not need to be ferrous for him to manipulate it.
I beg of you, please make sure you watch the Rogue Cut of the next one (Days of Future Past) and not the regular version. There is extra footage that makes a few things make more sense and has a bit more emotional impact. It's like how I would never recommend watching the theatrical cut of LOTR trilogy. Once you see the Extended, there is no going back!
Yeah idk what was the point pof that moment. I get that character like that would ruin some things in the future but they could just not include him at all lol.
@@Connor-ONeillAlright McFeely, what amazing stuff could you have written for him? Classic unstoppable force against immovable object? Wow so creative. Him withstanding even the cosmic energy Havok creates while simultaneously not being able to touch Shaw. Yeah, audiences really wanna see that for 3 hours.
@@koshomfg it's the possibilities that come with his power that make him interesting. Injected with a fatal nerve toxin? He turns into a sentient sea sponge man that doesn't have a nervous system. Fights the hulk? He'll gain the power to teleport away as the best way to survive the hulk is to be somewhere else. He faces the threat of being destroyed entirely? His body turns into living energy. His power doesn't make him strong, it makes him survive.
It’s frustrating hearing you guys trying to tie this and the first 3 movies together. It was never meant to be “prequel”. It was meant to be a complete reboot but after the poor reception this got they decided to retroactively fudge this and the first together in the next movie.
Oh, and I also meant to say that my frustration was with the writing and the complete mess that they made of the whole series. I didn’t mean you guy were frustrating.
X-men origins is ignored by this film so emma frost isn't silver foxes sister in this film and x men origins didn't in this timeline, that film was trash and a failure

DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is much better than THE WOLVERINE, in my opinion.
"he's a chest cyclops!" Great catch, he is actually cyclops's brother!
Michael Fassbender is in the Assassin's Creed movie and I think it's really good❤
Peter Quill - I want Kevin Bacon.

In the comics Xavier sometimes could walk again for a short time.
Alexander Summers (Havoc) is Scott Summers' (Cyclopes) and Gabriel Summers' (Vulcan) brother.
The trouble is this film screws up the timeline. Alex is supposed to be Scott’s younger brother, but setting this in 1962 makes him old enough to be Scott’s dad.
Alex has one more half brother...
You're forgetting Adam-X. Though that's newly confirmed.
the movies are a different continuity from the comics, things often change.
"Emma Frost. If that isn't a mutant name, I don't know what is!" Classic line! 😅
😅🙈
51:26 - We also saw him older and walking in the 3rd X-Men movie when he & Eric met Jean when she was a little girl.
Originally Raven and Azazel were Nightcrawler's parents in the comics. That was recently retconned. Raven shapeshifted into Azazel and impregnated a woman named Destiny.
Did Darwin so dirty in this movie... His mutant power is literally the power to live through anything, and he dies in his first battle.
What's more powerful, "this character can survive literally anything", or "the black guy dies first" trope?

The next official X-Men film is DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. But...... before you see that, you MUST watch THE WOLVERINE, which is a much better film than origins. It's the post credit scene in that film which lines you up for the next X-Men film!
The best Xmen movie
Second best days of future past was best
Love this movie❤
Alex Summers is aka HAVOk and the older Brother to Cyclops and their powers don't work on each other.
I know it's going to take a while till you get around to it but when the time comes to watch Days of Future Past you absolutely have to watch the Rogue Cut. For some reason they cut the best scenes from the movie from the theatrical cut.
It's OK, Trin, McAvoy used "fingering" in lots of interviews as well 😂
😂
”Fingering his mind”
Everyone who knows knows now 😌⚔️🐺
This is probably the best X-Men movie. 1 and 2 were good introductions, but not really much more in retrospect. The ones you haven't seen yet... range considerably in quality.
I don't know how far ahead your actual watching-from-posting-to-RUclips-schedule is.
We are only one movie ahead from youtube, next one we will upload is "The Wolverine" and we are only watching "X-Men: Days of Future Past" this week.
Oh! I forgot... Before you watch Days Of Future Past. And X-Men Apocalipse... Maybe you can consider watching the series The Gifted... You will see some characters there that need to be known before Days Of Future Past
None of them need to be known before watching DoFP lmfao the show started airing out like 2-4 years after the movie came out
Ive noticed you don't go with two part reaction anymore. This feels nice.
Whats your thoughts on this new gen of Xmen, rob?
I enjoyed a lote this new cast for 2 movies.
Really ernjoyed the cast on this one aswell! and the story feels more organic and makes more sense somehow.
@@robtrinreact2825 i felt like a good comeback from all the times we Heard Magneto and Charles calling themselves "old friend", and watching how they met and Drive their convictions.
Cigars, hot women, michael fassbender as magneto, whats not to love about this movie
Darwin’s death wasn’t necessary imo.😢
Best film next to Logan,x2
You guys should check out the Denzel Washington movie "Fallen".
Read your mind…minus fingers!
Can’t tell if this is a spoiler or foreshadowing in real life 🤷🏾♂️😂😂😜👍🏾✌🏾
Love from Bangladesh ❤❤
Much love from both of us 😍😍 so cool to have an audiance from Bangladesh!
Magneto cab manipulate any metal, not just metal that's magnetic.
Nice! My favourite X-Men movie! (Not counting the Deadpool movies.)
Love the shirt you have on! ❤
😎👍
10:58 Kinda cruel that you guys continually mock Azazel's appearance as a demon when that's the same prejudice Nightcrawler faces. (Did you guys forget him? The comparison never came up in the RUclips cut.)
15:15 Don't know if you caught the name of one of those agents but that's William Stryker, Sr.
They kill the one x-men who’s power is he’s unkillable 😭
👍
26:13 _"These aren't the droids you're looking for..."_
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that we absolutely love the channel. It feels good knowing that you read & reply to comments too, even though I'm sure it's time consuming and a pain sometimes 😅 It shows that you care so just wanted to let you know that you are appreciated! ✌️
Heyhey, thank you so much for all the support, we are very blessed with a lovely community we couldn't wish for better ❤❤
Much love from both of us.
Don't worry, on it.
Ah yes, the movie that killed the literally unkillable mutant.
Good. It‘s a boring character and it furthered Shaw‘s development.
Yeah idk what was the point pof that moment. I get that character like that would ruin some things in the future but they could just not include him at all lol.
@@koshomfg he was a character with literally ENDLESS possibilities. And you think that's boring? You helped write this movie. Didn't you?
Angel is played by Zoey Kravitz
It’s frustrating hearing you guys trying to tie this and the first 3 movies together. It was never meant to be “prequel”. It was meant to be a complete reboot but after the poor reception this got they decided to retroactively fudge this and the first together in the next movie.
Sorry for the frustration, we didn't know about all of that :) we are only learning as we go.
@@robtrinreact2825 mate, no need to apologise. It’s all very confusing when you watch it now.
Not my favorite xmen movie, solidly in the middle
