The reason they most likely targeted the players distance audience was cause they already have the Callaway Edge which are game improvement irons. Would be interesting to compare the Kirklands vs the Callaway Edge.
Callaway is shit. Ping, Titleist, Taylormade have all been sold to China and are manufactured there. The profit margin is insane. It’s made with low quality metal and sold for 1400 dollars just like the p790s.
The test that I’d like to see you conduct is the Kirkland vs the Takomo 101t. We know the Takomos perform, are comparably priced and are gorgeous. The Kirklands can be returned which adds just a touch of comfort. I’m still playing Warriors from 18 years ago and I am aching to make a jump. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication. Cheers!
This is the exact comparison I was looking for! Just tried the p790s at a local golf store simulator and loved them! Was looking at getting a used set of 2021 p790s or a brand new set of the Kirklands when they are avilable. Sounds like I could go either way but tempted to get a new set of Kirklands. Thanks for all the info on this! Great work! 😊
@@baronjohnson will give them a try! I have a local golf store that has a simulator where i can try them out. I tried the apex irons but liked the p790s better
Don't go with the used 790's, I have the 2018s, first version, and getting some dead spots in 8 and 7 irons due to a fault in the foam inserts, i've heard the 2021s are better but 2023 are the third foam generation for a reason... something to consider. I fitted myself with 0211 PXG's which are the next best deal to kirkland and many many shaft and weigh options in the fitting, loving the pxg's.
The exact comparison me and a ton of other people wanted to see and you executed it perfectly!! I’m especially happy to see this done by such a good/consistent ball striker. Great job, thank you for this!
All of the 7 irons with the KS were within 1 yard of each other distance wise while there was a 13 yard gap between the low and high of the P790s. I would say that's a huge advantage to Kirkland
I was helpfull!!! Seriously I'm glad you got a chance to do this. Just for those that don't know, the P-790s were standard loft and lie, shaft length was standard as well. I was fitted into them and I am just a boring standard all around kind of guy. I was interested in this myself since I have a friend that is interested in upgrading clubs and the P790s on on his list. He has hit mine and likes them but the cost is something he needs to consider. The Kirklands are something to consider. A couple of tidbits (at least from me) from the peanut gallery. You noted the shaft on the Kirkland and I think this might be a problem for some golfers. One advantage of the TMs was that I was fitted into these shafts. I know the Dynamic Gold shafts are pretty standard but when I was fitted I tried about eight shaft combinations and the Golds were the most consistent. Not the longest but the most all around consistent as far as dispersion went. This of course won't be possible with the Kirklands. If you are someone that needs has a loft/lie change or wants longer or shorter shafts then you are out of luck on the Kirklands. Bending these kinds of irons can be done but there is a limit. One thing I don't like about the P790s, from my experience, is the satin finish on the clubs. I'm sure folks noticed the marks on my seven iron in the beginning of the vid. This is mostly from club chatter and use. The irons are about three months old and this is what you can expect from regular use. I play a couple times a week. My old P790s had a shiny finish like the Kirklands and looked better after a while. Again, glad you got a chance to do this. I hear a lot about how these look like P790s and the test seems to confirm it. I'd probably would have looked at the Kirklands more closely if they had come out a few months ago. They seem like a great value overall. Even if I didn't like the shafts getting your own and having them reshafted probably would still be less than a brand new set of P790s.
So you can get irons that are just as good as a P790, with arguably the same distance and feel, but looking at spin and decent angle you have slightly better stopping power with the Kirkland. Very interesting!
wow! amazing review Gabe! Good job at getting this out so quickly, I was sending the link to these videos to friends and they all replied I just came across it. You're blowing up as a top search now. Congratulations!!!

I know that Maltby has been an ongoing talking point, and most on here still don't know anything about them.. they'll soon have their moment in the sun thanks to Gabe. They sell a model called the TS1-IM. They're constructed similarly with a polymer insert and tungsten weighting. The head is 1025 forged (gold standard for forged steel) and face is forged maraging steel with a milled face, and tighter groove gaps for better spin and control. It's got a pearl satin finish that is just gorgeous! Definitely not a "lookalike" and is 100% its own club. The stock shaft is a True Temper 115g and 5-GW is $463, so less than the KS's I'll come right out and say I think they're better than TM. They also have a lot of innovation that goes into their clubs in terms of forgiveness and playability that's explained on the website so you know you're getting more than just a set of golf clubs. Hopefully we can get a set of those in Gabe's hands in the near future 😁
@AZstu324 I couldn't agree more with you! I absolutely love my TS1-IM. I'm so glad I had a demo 7 iron built just to try. Also made a believer out of a friend that tried it as well.
@@jasonouellette6179 I played the previous Gen TS1's for 3 years. I actually did a comparison with the previous P770's on MGS and the Maltbys pretty much wiped the floor with them in every category. The P770's were my dream club.. until that moment. From that point I was hard sold on Maltby.

I'm not a shaft expert, but I would have expected Elevate115 shaft to produce more of a left bias than the DG105, but for you it was the other way around. I thought the DG shaft would be both stiffer and have a higher kick point than the Elevate. Is it possible that the tendency of the 790 shots to have more of a left bias is because they may have a bit more offset than the Kirklands?
I’d argue the stats were better overall with the P790 PW. 3 less yards but considerably more spin which is what you want in a PW and dispersion was tighter. Not a knock on Costco and given the 800 price difference I’m sold on Kirkland just something to consider it’s not all about distance when it comes to irons.
The only thing I would recommend is hitting both club heads with the same shaft. The gap in heads isn't as clear cut with equipment anymore. I play PXG primarily due to the fittings and shafts they have on hand fit my swing. But I could hit cobras, pings titelists etc and unless the fitters have the right shaft it's just degrees of variance. That being said really good comparison that was interesting to see!
True Temper discontinued the Elevate ETS 115 iron shafts. It was a shaft designed to create a mid/high trajectory. The S flex weighted 115 grams. The Dynamic Gold 115 Mid is the same weight as the Elevate ETS 115 but the DG 115 Mid is designed to create a mid trajectory but in True Temper shafts it would be the closest replacement.
The club head no doubt is a good one but with only 1 shaft option it’s a very limited market that can buy these clubs. That’s a shame and Gabe what you have proved well is that the shaft makes a heck of a difference in how it delivers the club head either open or closed. Proves to me if you want clubs to work for you , a fitting is imperative and look at clubs that offer the widest selection of shaft options . Thanks 🙏
It's a shame they put that huge kirkland signature on the backs of the club heads. What about just a KS or some small graphic logo? I think that'll keep folks from purchasing that might otherwise be in the market. Looks like a great value, for sure!
Maybe I missed it but are the specs the same? Lofts, lies, shaft lengths, etc? Also you push fades mast to KS shots vs pull hooked most the tylormade, of course the fades spun more.
One critical factor left out of the club test is dispersion pattern. It seemed tighter with the Taylormade P790 than the Kirkland Signature and that weighs heavily in the buying decision. Also, there's no mention of actual club lofts. Were they identical or were the Kirkland's a degree or two stronger in each iteration (PW, 7 and 4-iron)? I dislike when golf Vloggers do iron comparison tests and there's no mention of actual club loft. The loft of a set of irons from one manufaturer is rarely identical to another throughout the set. Thus, distinctions need to be made and communicated to the viewer so they can make an informed decision. Next, stack the Kirkland's up against your Edel's and let's see the numbers. LOL!
I think both sets of irons should have the same shafts for it to be a true apples to apples comparison. That said my takeaway from this video is you can get 90-95% if not 100% of the same performance with the KS irons for less than half the price of new P790s. I wonder which one I'd choose if I found a set of used P790s in good shape for $500 though. Thanks for making this video.
I get what you’re saying about testing with the same shafts, but the KS only come in the Elevate 115’s. I don’t know anyone who plays with those shafts.
Clubs seem good but that spin is a bit concerning to me. I mean especially in the Pw where you wanna score, 800-1k revs isn’t nothing. I especially get worried about these clubs being crazy when it comes to fliers out of the rough or in wet conditions. I was surprised to see driver spin numbers out of the 4 irons and would worry that these clubs are highly dependent on strike and using verticality mostly to land the ball on the green. With the golf course trying to take spin away from the player i do worry about the ability to hold greens especially as launch goes down with longer irons
Hi Gabe! Thanks for the really nice comparison !! I’d say i would give the victory to the Kirkland signature solely on better spin control and standard deviation with the 7 iron. Pw and 4 iron had better consistency imo too! Really surprised by these results! I don’t need more clubs but i would definitely go KS for the price… and the thing that shocked me the most was sole width, i was expecting the KS to be bigger! Looking forward to see your upcoming content 👍🏻🏌️♂️
Great review Gabe! Count the groves on both the clubs. It looks to me like the P790 has more groves than the KS. That could be why there’s could be why the spin difference. At least for the shorter clubs.
Nicely done, but one thing I have learned in my 60+ years at this game is that hitting balls off of a mat and hitting balls off of changing, natural grass, dirt, sticks, sand, and stones (and other stuff) in changing winds and precipitation, FOR A SCORE, are two very different things. Another thing I've learned after my almost 80 years on this planet is that almost always, you really do "get what you pay for." Looking forward to seeing your comparisons on real turf to see if all that holds up.
I have the gen two wedges. Took a black paint pen to the red signature and it looks a 1000x better if you’re that concerned about the logo. You can also use some thinner and get rid of the black and red ink altogether to look like the usga shots if you’d like.
I would love to see a head to head…Kirkland v the set you picked up from Giga Golf, which I believe comes in at an even more affordable price…And as you said you can get the set from Giga set to the buyer….Have a wonderful Christmas….
The shaft is so important, had bought a set of 790,played them once, got rid of them, just couldn't get used to the hollowed sound, went back to a used set of Adams idea pro, which are gorgeous forged irons,I found for less then a hundred, they didn't have a mark on them, spent little bit restarting them,I'm good to go,for me it's in the sound
Nice job. Thank you. Would be, as you know, for each to have the exact same shafts. Perhaps get another set of the Kirklands and put the P790’s on them to ultimately see the differences. 👍😎
the heaver the shaft elevate 115 will leak to the right cause it is a heaver shaft and a longer club it harder to close the face. the DG105 is lighter so you will close the face more so you will draw the ball even though it is a 4 iron
Ty ,sorry I missed the lofts on each club, I know p 790 ,7 iron gotta be like 30 degrees, or 30.5 players distance iron, I missed Kirkland lofts, ??sorry didnt finish video, had to run, ill see if you let me know lofts , ty
Is it worth spending 900 dollars more for 5 yards? Lol I’m grabbing a set of KS irons when I get the chance! I’m rocking z785 Arizona right now but I just want a set to have them lol
How do the lofts compare between the two irons, are they apples to apples, or is one stronger than the other? Sorry if I missed it. Side note: Have you ever considered switching to a longer shaft and adjusting your lie so you can be more upright at address? I feel like that might help your posture, could be wrong.
Almost identical on all 3. I believe the PW is 45 for both. 7 iron is 31 for Kirkland and 30.5 Taylormade. 4 iron is 20 for Kirkland vs 21 for Taylormade.
Interesting comparison. What this video also shows is why slower swing speeds lime out shouldn't carry a 4 iron. Only a 15-20 yard carry difference between the 7 and the 4, and that makes for bad gapping. I am willing g to guess that if you hit the 5 and 4 iron back to back, you would see similar results between them.
great stuff...one thing I noticed, in all three examples you hit just a bit farther with the first club - could there be a little fatigue factor in there too? (hit KS PW first and it was longer; P790 first w/ 7 iron and finally KS first w/ the 4 iron) Wonder if you redid the test with the other club first in each example if you would have the same results or if the length would flip flop. The bottom line is that it appears they are very close
Hey there Gabe, there’s a brand of clubs I’d love to see if you could review. I am in the market for some new irons and there’s a company similar to Kirklands price range and promising similar results to a P790 as well. The brand name is sub70, would it be possible for a review?
I think visually they look like the 2021 version of the p790 or the titleist 600 series. I'll be interested to see the staying power on these because of the lack of shaft and grip options which os a big draw for better players like you've mentioned. Specs are even a little weaker on loft on the kirkland so its interesting its so low spin. For you the deflection point on that shaft must really generate a lot lower dynamic loft for you.
Stick with your Wilson’s, Though these clubs do show equivalent performance, you’re better off getting fit for your next set. New clubs aren’t necessarily going to better your handicap. Spend the $400 on an instructor.
Almost identical on all 3. I believe the PW is 45 for both. 7 iron is 31 for Kirkland and 30.5 Taylormade. 4 iron is 20 for Kirkland vs 21 for Taylormade.
The gaping on the 790 is strange/bad. PW is shorter and 7I is longer. PW 122- 7I 166 KS PW125- 161. 790 Gap 44. KS 36. I will ignore 4I results, probably 5i would have been a better comparison for the swing speed. Not trying to be negative but 4i carry is a bit too close to the 7I carry. Great job, very informative video.
The P790 irons are nice. Are they worth 1400? I do not think so. There are irons that play as good or better for half the price. I love the P790 phantom black irons. I am buying them but will get them on the used market. There is no way I am paying 1700 plus tax for them, lol. I buy all my clubs used. I let the 1st guy take the hit. There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying new. That is just my preference. But if you are shooting high 90s and 100 plus, don't think that the 790 irons will make you a better player. They will not fix a bad swing. Get constant on your ball striking before making a high dollar decision. This way, you can get fitted properly and only have to do it one time.
I wouldn't say that you when hitting the 7 iron had a longer difference because of the ball speed you were hitting slight fades instead of draws on p790 so a simple adjustment of lie angle upright and I would think much closer with both for whatever reason lie angle or what your definitely seeing more spin less distance with fade
Looks like the gapping would be hard give the carry distance between 7 iron and 4 iron was like 15 yards and the gap between PW and 7 was closer to 40 yards.
K sig was much more consistent on the 7 and 4 iron. May not have had better average stats, but if there is a 20 yard swing from shot to shot with the same club I’ll take a drop in 5 yards if it’s always the same
Thanks for the review...lofts must be uber jacked for your speed of 83ish in the 7in to produce 170 carry...are they around 30*? Not sure thats functional at 4k spin...
@@LetsPlayThru thanks! Great job, love your vids...based on the launch and spin at your speed I was thinking 29-30* -I still play "old school" lofts 35* 7in..keep up the great job 👏
Kirkland look really good - hard for most people to put their ego in their pocket - they remind me of the look of Wilson - I would play them but there again I drive an 12 year old Volvo XC60 why! because it does the job! Nice review and Costco have done a great job but their philosophy Shines through on all their products - quality products at affordable prices - hum should they have a different name for their clubs NO they are proud of their name so I admire that - will try these when my local Costcos in the UK stock them - great review!
Everyone saying they don’t like the logo and the polished finish but I thought the boldness looked awesome 😂 BUT I’m also not obsessed with the traditional look
Do you consider yourself a low spin player? We have similar distances. But I tend to get quite a bit more spin than you do with those same clubs. My spin is usually one thousand r p m less than the number stamped on the club... So my seven iron spins around six thousand. I'm wondering if that is too high....

LOL!
Good stuff Josh! Thanks for the review!
I have KSig-790s and do you think they’re worth reshafting or using extenders to make longer for a tall golfer?
I would be curious to see the Kirkland signature irons compared to the Tacoma 101T irons. Just a thought
Indeed, this was the test everyone was waiting for. You didn't mention the difference, if any, in static loft between them. Are they the same lofts.
Wish I had that much energy at 5am! Great video thanks!
Haha, thanks
Nicely done, but one thing I have learned in my 60+ years at this game is that hitting balls off of a mat and hitting balls off of changing, natural grass, dirt, sticks, sand, and stones (and other stuff) in changing winds and precipitation, FOR A SCORE, are two very different things. Another thing I've learned after my almost 80 years on this planet is that almost always, you really do "get what you pay for." Looking forward to seeing your comparisons on real turf to see if all that holds up.
Nicely done Gabe. Thank you.
Yep, I agree with other folks commenting. A face to face with the Takomos 101 T is warranted.
I have the gen two wedges. Took a black paint pen to the red signature and it looks a 1000x better if you’re that concerned about the logo. You can also use some thinner and get rid of the black and red ink altogether to look like the usga shots if you’d like.
You can use nail polish & clear coat to change the color.
Great vidoe. Lots to think about. Looks like the kirkland check alot of boxes and keeps cash in the pocket.
Yes they do
Is it worth spending 900 dollars more for 5 yards? Lol I’m grabbing a set of KS irons when I get the chance! I’m rocking z785 Arizona right now but I just want a set to have them lol
Another great review as always. What are the loft differences between the Kirkland and the TaylorMade.
Question, if they’re mid to high handicap irons, should they be compared to the p770s?
How do the lofts compare between the two irons, are they apples to apples, or is one stronger than the other? Sorry if I missed it. Side note: Have you ever considered switching to a longer shaft and adjusting your lie so you can be more upright at address? I feel like that might help your posture, could be wrong.
Almost identical on all 3. I believe the PW is
45 for both. 7 iron is 31 for Kirkland and
30.5 Taylormade. 4 iron is 20 for Kirkland vs
21 for Taylormade.
Will be nice to check the swingweight diferences in between the irons of the same clubs to see the quality of the production.
Great Gabe, looking forward to the on course test 🎉
great stuff...one thing I noticed, in all three examples you hit just a bit farther with the first club - could there be a little fatigue factor in there too? (hit KS PW first and it was longer; P790 first w/ 7 iron and finally KS first w/ the 4 iron) Wonder if you redid the test with the other club first in each example if you would have the same results or if the length would flip flop. The bottom line is that it appears they are very close
Really good review and comparisons. Amazing the difference in price when performance is close to same
Hey there Gabe, there’s a brand of clubs I’d love to see if you could review. I am in the market for some new irons and there’s a company similar to Kirklands price range and promising similar results to a P790 as well. The brand name is sub70, would it be possible for a review?
Are the lofts similar?
Do a comparison of p790 with the Maltby TS1 IM.
Yes! 😁
Perhaps the left and right differences are due to the offset?
What is the loft difference and your dynamic loft?
I think visually they look like the 2021 version of the p790 or the titleist 600 series. I'll be interested to see the staying power on these because of the lack of shaft and grip options which os a big draw for better players like you've mentioned. Specs are even a little weaker on loft on the kirkland so its interesting its so low spin. For you the deflection point on that shaft must really generate a lot lower dynamic loft for you.
Great job!
the clubs look incredible. love the look of them, and i am looking to get out of game improvement irons into players irons.
I been looking to upgrade from my Wilson D7 Irons. Wonder if these would be a good fit? I am around a 16 HCP.
Stick with your Wilson’s,
Though these clubs do show equivalent performance, you’re better off getting fit for your next set. New clubs aren’t necessarily going to better your handicap. Spend the $400 on an instructor.
Do you think you will be comparing the T series ... I'm getting ready to buy a new set of irons. And I just am completely stuck no..
These sold out so fast i didnt even know they were out yet. Any one any idea when these and the kirkland wedges will be back?
not sure of the clubs, but the kirkland golf balls are great.
Just wanted to say MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and yours. Great review and comparison.
Merry Christmas Allen!🎄
I wish i knew about those irons before they got pulled from the stores. A good iron for 33% the price.
Great honest review, thanks.
Wondering if Elevate shaft on the regular flex Kirklands are the 95 Elevates.
Are the lofts the same? Example both PW 43 degree?
Almost identical on all 3. I believe the PW is 45 for both. 7 iron is 31 for Kirkland and 30.5 Taylormade. 4 iron is 20 for Kirkland vs 21 for Taylormade.
The gaping on the 790 is strange/bad. PW is shorter and 7I is longer. PW 122- 7I 166
KS PW125- 161. 790 Gap 44. KS 36. I will ignore 4I results, probably 5i would have been a better comparison for the swing speed. Not trying to be negative but 4i carry is a bit too close to the 7I carry. Great job, very informative video.
I prefer the Miura just benefits me more with consistency in the low 70’s bad day 80!!
Can you do a comparison between these Kirkland irons and the Takoma irons?
Yes 💯
How does the takomo 101s compare against these two?
The have a similar look for sure..
what flex were you using?
Please compare Kirkland vs Takomo. Same price range, same looking. Thx
Absolutely that will happen
I like the TT Elevate shafts, but the 115’s are way too heavy for me. I would like to hear Costco’s reasoning for this shaft weight.
Great consistency
The Elevate shaft is a high launching shaft while the DG is a mid launch shaft
Great review Gabe do you know when the Driver will be released in the UK ?
I wish I did, but unfortunately no. Hopefully in the spring 🙏
Are the lofts the same?
Mate that was a great video 👍⛳️ very surprised
I was too, thank you 🙏
K sig was much more consistent on the 7 and 4 iron.
31° at 7 iron
@@LetsPlayThru thanks! Great job, love your vids...based on the launch and spin at your speed I was thinking 29-30*
-I still play "old school" lofts 35* 7in..keep up the great job 👏
Kirkland look really good - hard for most people to put their ego in their pocket - they remind me of the look of Wilson - I would play them but there again I drive an 12 year old Volvo XC60 why! because it does the job! Nice review and Costco have done a great job but their philosophy Shines through on all their products - quality products at affordable prices - hum should they have a different name for their clubs NO they are proud of their name so I admire that - will try these when my local Costcos in the UK stock them - great review!
Can you do this with takomo 101s?
On looks alone I would take the Takomos if shopping at the KS price point.
I would say on average, my spin is never all that high. I’m probably on the lower end, yes.
Ahhhh I just want these to come to canada!!! Sucks yhat im hearing not till spring... really wanted to break them in on the sim over winter...
I'm waiting for the v3 balls.
