Thank you both for all your videos, I have wanted to get into Root for a long time but always felt intimidated by the perceived complexity. Thanks to both of your channels, I feel really equipped to not only play but also teach Root and its expansions with my friends. I thought it was funny that you were both in this same game and that LotB didn't recognize your name haha. Great game, fun to watch full playthroughs and actually understand what's going on finally 😅
@@j-pfitz That's so kind of you. I'm glad our content is helping make Root more accessible, it really deserves to be more popular and it's already really popular which makes me very happy.
As a cat main, feel so related, cats always act like a boss at the start of the game, and then with more and more build spots taken by others, just lose the momentum and be helpless to watch other factions to catch up and win.
I think in the newest board game version, Cats can now rescue all lost cats of a battle with one card via field hospital? (print ver. 4) That likely helps with reconquering and -building. EDIT: Checked with my board game, indeed they do.
I really like the game recap idea. Hearing you describe what you were seeing and why you made the decisions that you did are super helpful as I try to become a better player. Thanks for the video!
I’ll add my appreciation for this format. I’m sure it’s a colossal PITA to make; first you have to play and record it, then you have to recap and edit it? Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Man, I love watching your Root gameplays. They’re somehow so relaxing and so exciting at the same time. Sick last turn, by the way! This game was nuts.
zaaanggg that audio is 🔥!! hahhaha tbh i'd be sweatin if i was in chat and found out that LoTB was playing but it's awesome to see how many recognize you in-game! don't wanna spoil the ending but those were some epic plays man-just when i thought i learned how to play root, these analyses have shown me that....i know nothing about the game 😂 nice gameplay + narration sam!!
When I play as Eyrie I always choose comander and get a bird build card. This seems to be a slower, but a more reliable way to play, as you expand slower, but if you play your cards right and balance battles with recruites and have your roosts sometimes destroyed you can win without going into turmoil at all. However if you get a turmoil you are in a solid position to regroup and get these last few point for a victory.
Took me a bit to watch this but LOVED IT, stellar job man and what a great game to capture! I hope we get more content, I would love to see the twitch running again or some way I could support, I appreciate the content and your pleasant vibes man. You make days better.
I’m super into Root right now and watching all these old videos, they’re so good! And what a game ❤ I love seeing great displays of skill like I saw here
26:06 Classic root game, calling the cat ahead when he is at 17 points and mostly no building spots vs a coalition. :3 Naaah, from the point the vagabond decided to team up, the game was set.
@@LordoftheBoard Yeah, it feel tense because at 27:18 the vagabond cleared the wrong clearing and at 31:45 the cult goes for a risky agressive suicide crusade (4 vs 6 cats) leaving his garden undefended (only ambush). For the last 3 rounds, it was your game to loose. The cat came close to stealing the win with lucky draws, the vagabond bad poor call and the lizard leaving himself open. Root is such a great game !
What version of Root Digitial is this? Been looking at ways to find play, ideally withou the 3d models ive seen in screenshots. They are a huge turnoff compared to the endearing 2D art seen on the board game
Def play a lot of async games! that way you can take your time with turns. and join the woodland warriors discord to get questions answered and strategy tips :)
I don’t play Vagabond much. But when I do - I usually see what I get from the ruins. If I get the bag or and a sword I’ll just stop to slow down the other factions. Usually mix aiding (trying to get tea) and then go hostile and instigate. Sometimes coalition if I’ve failed at the earlier steps
Hey LOTB, how do you make Root Digital look like this with the top down view and simple markers? My digital version has all the 3D figures and zooms in and out as factions make moves
"Marquis" has a soft "r" and silent "s", so it is not "Marcus D. Katt" it is "Mah Kiddy Cat". I know I am a killjoy, I just wanted to point out the intended pun.
You are correct. Only the problem is that it is written “Marquise” De Cat with an e at the end. Which is pronounced (Maar Keez). Marquis is for a male and Marquise as it is written is a female. Making the Marquise de cat a she! Which is awesome
@@LordoftheBoard very true with an English pronunciation, but I thought the faction was supposed to be French as foriegn invaders to the Woodlands. The French pronunciation is softer on the consonants. Also, I apologize for the confusing typo that misgendered the Marquise.
Playing the game more and more, Im starting to realize the vital flaw with the game. The gameplay is fantastic, everyone has a great time, all until one play gains the lead. Points in this game is a momentum system. If one player is flying in the lead its near impossible for the others to catch up. You can try to stop them, all working together, but in that situation the person in the lead loses that momentum, making it extremely difficult to regain footing. If you, Lord of the Root, (or anyone else here) has a solution to this flaw, please let me know. Or if you think im crazy and are simply having really bad games, feedback would be nice. Im not disappointed with the game at all still, if the point factor is removed from the game its a fun game,
I would disagree. This game is a perfect example of that. Cats were leading the majority of the game. They gained the point lead - but didn’t win. In root there are constantly 2 games being played. The game on the board. And the political game at the table. If you shoot up in points too fast players will all knock you down. Often players will attempt to stay second to seize the player in firsts position when they are taken down. Also as everyone is the same skill in the game it lends to much closer games. I would suggest watching games that are played by everyone at an equal skill level. You can find some on Guerric Samples Games. I’ve been on there a few times :)
@@LordoftheBoard I never thought about the game that way. Those are interesting strategies… Thanks again for your help, and thank you for introducing me to this game!

Great play by the vagabond here. Saw the cats running away and switched to alliance despite doing not to bad himself.

I am very curious how it would have changed if the Vagrant choose to just score points off of Marquise, WP

It would be more awesome if you can negotiate with Marquise and do some policy to control others faction like a real game .
We did some offscreen chat negotiation
First turn lizard mouse card not building garden at home...I can't think of any reason to justify this move.
Hey everyone is learning! The player had expressed they hadnt played much lizards after the match
Are you playing on steam or on the play store? I finally got to play this game and I'm addicted
I have it on steam and on my phone :) they are synced so I can make turns on both
I'm considering buying the digital version too. Where would you consider playing it on? PC, phone or Nintendo switch?
If playing a lot of live games is the intention then PC. If playing async than likely mobile. I don't have it for the switch yet!
so crazy how the cats would’ve won if they just moved all 3 cats…
I tried the real board game for the first time this tuesday and really liked it. I want to get into it more. I got the game on Steam. Any tips?
