    I like how the current meta is that this lone wanderer in the woods goes exploring the creepy ruins, finds an ancient sword, and then immediately goes insane killing as many people as they possibly can. Sounds like a horror movie. The Vagabond is actually Jason.

      I feel like appealing to the emotion of 'dont make your opponents sad' is sort of not the best way to go about convincing people away from keep rushing, cause that still puts into people's heads that it's a viable way to win the game, and therefore they will seek out doing that if they are more results oriented.
      Keep Rushing is 9/10 times a losing play anyway, and I think would be a much more compelling argument.
      "Congratulations Vagabond! You burned down the Marqius's keep! Now your movement will nearly always require two boots for you to get to any given opening for the rest of the game, and your ability to score points has dropped dramatically! You also just acquired yourself a mortal enemy, and you likely will not be winning the game!"

There's an errata that states, "Whenever you move to an adjacent clearing, you may also force warriors of one Allied faction to move from your origin clearing to your destination clearing.” (Notably, this changes a ruling from previous printings: the Vagabond no longer triggers Outrage for the Woodland Alliance when moving Alliance warriors, because the Force keyword specifies that you treat the action as if the forced player performed it.)"

    Thank you for putting so much attention to the Keep-rushing it is insane some people will pick Vagabond in drafted Marquise games with the sole intention of doing this. I recently got to play as LOTH against a Vagabond that early annoyed me by taking 3 of the ruins, so I retaliated by taking the last ruin - which coincidently had the bag, and crafting the remaining two locking the Vagabond into 6 items for the rest of the game, and I felt really bad about it. It might have been the "smartest" play to completely lock out another opponent, but it really wasn't fun for him.

    I’m not nearly as experienced as you are, this video is really awesome, but I’ve also found sound pretty good success with the quest strategy as the thief myself. If you can get your hands on another tea or 2, then you can exhaust all of your items every turn for some nice points without having to worry about slowing down, it’s pretty fun

    • @cameronbockus9537
      @cameronbockus9537 9 месяцев назад

      I think the thief is really underrated. You can choose any of the winning strategies in this video based on the items you get from the ruins alone. My favorite is to get into an alliance with WA or Cats, steal a card and hand it right back. As long as you have boots to move, you can reliable get those easy vp every turn and use your other items to double dip into quests or even bother the ED if you have a crossbow and sword.

    So I've only recently started playing root and I love it, mainly because of the vagabond. I don't particularly enjoy war games, but I adore rpgs. The vagabond let's me play as my one guy going on an adventure, while everyone else has to manage an army and recourses. It also helps that out of my three games I've played, I've one two and was literally the player that goes right before me won before my turn to win.
    Despite doing so well I've had some shit luck with this character. First game I couldn't craft anything so I just had to do quests, I could've fought but questing was always the better choice. 2nd game as the ranger, expecting to fight a lot more, I couldn't do any of my three quests and I got blown up twice, and sacrificed damage for quests and won again.
    Third game as tinker, I decided that since no one ever crafted shit I'd just do it myself, the problem came when I had every time, except for the swords and crossbows because players held them, or the discard pile got shuffled twice when it finally got discarded, or the rats stole the ruin one, and my three quests needed swords and crossbows. So I couldn't fight, I'd crafted pretty much everything, so I was left to start aiding, and I was two points away from winning when the damn badgers just gain 8 points, we killed everything they had, and they just built half their army back on their turn.

    Coming in late, since I just recently started playing more of the game. I absolutely love playing Vagabond, specially with infamy strats. And I agree on not Keep rushing, it's just a dick move, though I do have an interesting story about it. In was in a game where I lucked out on first turn, finding a hamer with Ranger. I still had a move left, so I moved to the keep space to craft the bag I had in hand, and I told Cats that I was not gonna attack, only craft my bag. I did just that, but then he decided to move a lot of his forces to attack me during his turn, forgetting that I had a hammer and Hideout. In that single bad call, Cats completely lost the game turn one.

    Late to the party here but I must say, this is a fantastic adaptation of one of the pivotal cultural moments of a generation: Randy Macho Man Savage's 1987 Prime Time Wrestling speech after losing the Inter=Continental Heavy Weight belt to Ricky the Dragon Steam Boat. We all cried that day and I'm sure each and everyone of us, who were there to witness, remembers where they were, what they were doing and the shock felt around the world.... the day it happened. Well done sir.

    Favorite pieces of vagabond bullshit, tinker edition: any item card that the tinker draws can be crafted and then drawn again to craft the second copy of the item either on the same turn or the next. Any player that can be forced to discard cards (lizards, moles, eyrie, badgers) can be forced into giving up item cards they’ve been hoarding (turmoil the eyrie, blow up gardens or mole buildings), which can then be reclaimed from the discard pile. I’ve also had situations where players at the table will hold up how many cards they’re discarding at the end of their turn, and then discard them all stacked on top of each other to subtly hide what cards they are. In this case, the discard stack is public info, which means that you can just check what cards they are before ever using day labor. Did someone sabotage coffin makers? Day labor that shit and now the table is down a saboteurs card and coffin makers is back online. Someone crafted a card that you wanted? If you have saboteurs crafted, discard their card and then use day labor to draw it and craft it. Even if you don't have a saboteurs card at all, day labor saboteurs from the discard pile, craft it, use it next turn, and then day labor the card you wanted. Ambushes are now dangerous to use at all, since any ambush card discarded is literally just free for the taking, making the vagabond even harder to police. And trust me when I say you absolutely must craft swap meet or stand and deliver depending on the deck you’re using. Use it every turn to try and snag item or effect cards you want (or favor cards with the base deck). The moment someone sabotages it, just draw it and craft it again. They will hate you. Anyways, uh, the tinker is bullshit. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

    Stopping other factions often gets you at least something in return, while stopping the vagabond is more like picking out the trash.
    Every other player beside the vagabond need to cooperate and take turns taking out the trash, or noone will.

    Could you make a Dominance Card guide. I (a cat player) am tired of people telling me to just use dominance cards without offering feedback on how that's remotely possible. Thank you. :)

    • @Nevakanezah_
      @Nevakanezah_  2 года назад

      Firstly: Do you mean a guide on how dom cards work, or a guide on how to win with dominance?
      Secondly: Despite what you've heard, dominance isn't really the strongest choice. With relatively little coordination, a table can reliably out-rule you often enough to make victory impossible. People see it doing well on digital because that coordination just doesn't happen. At the end of the day though, people can always take away your dom win condition, but they can never take away your victory points.

      @@Nevakanezah_ I would like too see a guide on how to win with them, or at least why it's a bad idea to play with them. I agree it's not a good path to victory, but a lot of people seem to think it is. Whenever questions about winning with military factions appear on the forums, people recommend dominance cards. Especially for the Cats. Yet I have only been at one table where that worked, and it was a very inexperienced group.
      I'm not asking for a full, "git gud." but a shorter video like the vagabond tier list.
      No demands here, just a request for something I'd like to see.

    Blame Jimmy start is not as toxic as destroying the cats in early? since you proc it early, ally with a scaling factions which is not necessary in a bad stop, and just force a 2 vs 1vs 1 game, seems extremely OP, kinda game disrrupt mechanic making game almost unwinnable for other 2 players.

    • @Nevakanezah_
      @Nevakanezah_  2 года назад

      I'd certainly say that coalitions are less toxic than keeprushing, yeah. I played up coalitions for both dramatic effect, as well as the truly weird game behaviour they incur.
      As for toxicity though - remember that coalition victories depend on the non-VB partner winning, so the other two players can actually shift some focus _away_ from the VB now that they're no longer an independent threat to win.
      I didn't include it in the video, but if you coalition with the corvids as soon as you hit 10vp, you will quickly find out just how badly someone can lose a 2v1v1.

  • @terradraca
    @terradraca 6 месяцев назад +1

    The more practical reason not to keep rush is sure you've kneecapped one faction but now the other two are far more dangerous and empowered. Not good, vagabond wants everyone at each other's throats while he slips around getting tasks done.
    It's just like traitor games, the first person to betray always winds up getting burned for it.
    Only good time to keep rush is if the cats are getting way too powerful and you need to slow them down.

    • @Nevakanezah_
      @Nevakanezah_  6 месяцев назад

      In online games with passive opponents, VB can get away with it because the other 2 factions never capitalize on the extra space or fight the VB. In competitive games though, it does have that exact destabilizing effect.

      Yeah, that's pretty much where it becomes a self-destructive approach on the part of the VB.

  • @JesterOnCrack

    I get that keep rushing is simply bad style. But I do wonder, if it is a valuable strategy that gives you wins it seems like I'm artificially handicapping myself in order to not exploit a flaw in the game design.
    Then again, if you keep rush you're immediately everyone's target I suppose.

    • @Nevakanezah_
      @Nevakanezah_  2 года назад +2

      Putting aside the inevitable vagaries of the large political aspects of Root strategy, you do end up with a few very concrete outcomes:
      - Cats are no longer going to be slowing down the other two players
      - If your attempt at the keep fails, you're now out of position with tons of cats around you
      - You still have to find the other ~27vp you need to win, and cats arent likely to be building much
      - Corollary to the above: You could grab ~3vp with a keeprush on turn 1, or let cats build out more and have significantly more VP to gain once they do.
