    Excellent Root content as always! I appreciate the balance you keep in these playthrough videos in keeping them quicker to watch, and yet still remaining a good way to learn a player's thought process in the game with your narration.

    It’s a wee bit sad to see that most cats wins happens when there’s no other high reach factions to oppose them. Good video though, quite useful

    Had fun playing with you congrats on the lizard win but regarding cats ... you need 3 recruiters to build that 2nd card and you need to try and craft some root beer or even better, some coins. Sawmills are the weak points that need defending, I would much rather have map pressure and all cats out there and only as many sawmills as I must build. You could see that I was at 27 even with both the birds and WA playing to stop me and not to get points :)

    • @Nevakanezah_
      @Nevakanezah_  Год назад +6

      Tempting, but the catch ends up being that opponents who want to stop you from building only have two sawmills they need to target in order to break your economy. Focusing sawmills creates a situation where you're going to generate four+ wood per turn unless your opponents manage to destroy three different clearings, which badly taxes their actions.
      Also, while being able to craft with that extra card draw is nice, it's certainly not the reason we want it - we want those cards so we can use field hospital as often as possible. Being able to hold onto the cats we're recruiting means we eventually stop needing to spend actions to recruit, and maintain just as much board control as if we had built four or more recruiters.

      @@Nevakanezah_ I respectfully disagree. The biggest weakness of the cat is that it is limited to 3 actions, the most important thing from the extra cards is the bird card that gives that extra action.
      You need to also consider the map presence and map pressure. As a cat you want to get your 25 cats on the board as fast as possible and keep them there this represents a huge pressure and opportunity for you to go where you want to go and fight and clear for buildings where you need to. Cats are primarily builders and they need space, without the map presence you will not have the space. Recruiters add pressure to the map beneficial to you. Sawmills suck in warriors to keep them and the wood safe. They represent to opposite of recruiters. I only build sawmills as a must and I found that having 2 sawmills in different suits is enough. I can compensate for the low number of sawmills with overwork + the extra bird actions.
      If you spawn a lot of sawmills you will have very little board presence. The way you describe the field hospital as a means to get cats on the board tells me that you struggle a lot with not having enough cats on the board. You do have a lot of wood though that you cannot all build because you do not have the map presence and pressure to create the space nor the connectivity nor the extra actions for building more than once per turn. What you create then is a target rich environment with a lot of unbuilt wood. The Condor loves that, the Owl loves that, the Otters love that these are all leaders and/or factions you cannot out-fight. You have just given them a field day.
      Third, crafting. That is not out of the 3 actions and potentially you can get 6 points from 2 coins or 4 from 2 root beers that is not insignificant. With map pressure and drawing 2 cards per turn you can reliably get some gear crafted. Again - if you spawn sawmills you will not be able to also have good crafting and map presence so you will lack in crafting as well.
      My two cents, or in this case, two pieces of wood :)))

      @@andraslibal while considering my response, it occurred to me that i'd just be re-treading arguments i made in my guide video on cats, so it might just be easiest to refer you to that instead.
      I can say, however, that overproduction of wood is entirely a non-issue, and that building placement and early policing accounts for the rest.
      If your approach has given you reliable success though, i have no reason to complain; i may try it myself sometime to remind myself how it compares

      @@Nevakanezah_ you have seen me go up against your unmolested lizards being focused on by both birds and an entirely irrational WA who both scored dismal points and just tried to disrupt me and I still scored 27 pts. I would gladly play as a cat vs you in any combination providing the other 2 players are just random players and are not in the game with the sole purpose of making me lose. I have a very high win rate with cats.
