In 2019 while trolling the Dollar Tree, when things were $1, for stocking stuffers i came across full 2oz hand sanitizer bottles on a carabiner. Of course just a few months later 1oz in a lesser bottle with split tail key chain ring was $4.99 and a comperable 1.5 oz bottle was $9.99 if they could be found elsewhere. We are still using and refilling our 2oz bottles then hang them from the bags we are carrying. Stores were liquidating thier hand sanitizers in '21 when the need "was over" and we bought a stockpile which we continue to use for refilling our smaller containers.

Last year when replacing the AAA sized rechargeable batteries 🔋 in the small FRS radios we use in our neighborhood CERT group, I decided to order a box with more than we needed so that I can start trying them in other things around the house so I could get an idea of how long they last before needing a recharge. So far replacing dead batteries in the bathroom scale, the big analog face alarm ⏰ clock, tv remote, small fan we use for air circulation (we don’t have any air conditioning). This may have been an anomaly but the cost of rechargeable AAA batteries was comparable to the regular ones due to a sale.

Hello Emma much of the gear I use is second hand or reused like a backpack from yard sale, metal bottle, sewing kit with reused bobbins with reclaimed kite string in a reCoveRed tin. My buffs were made from a shirt. Yes I reuse ♻️ quite a bit :)

For sporting and hiking/ camping frugal and zero waste items, look for a re-sale store of sporting and camping gear. We have more than one in our greater area of which some are general and others are activity specific. Going back to the years before thrift stores were particularly popular, there was often a re-sale store for sporting goods or one with a good sporting goods section by most major universities. Often students could put things on consignment, sell to the store, and/or buy used gokds for a good price.
