A great video. I was in Rio de Janeiro for 30 days in December 2019. I was on Copacabana Beach for the New Year's Eve. and it was awesome one of the best experiences in my lifetime. My next trip to Brazil will certainly include at least a month in Salvador Bahia Brazil 🇧🇷.
Thank you and oh man, I know that experience was like no other. I wanted to experience the Carnaval celebrations here, but I'll have to wait. If/when you visit, make sure to check if it's the rainy months.
@@slyslife I'm quite familiar with this area of the world. I have been traveling to Brazil since the 1990's. I lived in Buenos Aires Argentina for nearly 10 years. In this part of the world you don't have to worry about hurricanes tornadoes or really bad weather. What I'm looking for is a chill out spot for a year or two where the weather is hot and mild all year long. Brazil 🇧🇷 is looking good for me.
That was tight. Rio Vermelho is poppin'. The song at 7:10 is by Ara Katu, called Amantes. The chill song at 12:24 you liked that was playing elsewhere is by Frejat. It's called Amor pra recomeçar. The next song at 13:00 is a popular song from Bahia that slaps, called Várias Queixas, by Gilsons.
A nice laid back atmosphere. It's good to see the amount of people out. Feels like a prefect time to be traveling. Real good vibes from that place. It always seems to me to be nice when it is well past 8 or 9:00 at night and yet you still have well lit venues, people out playing sports, exercising and living life. I love that when I travel. I'm in the sticks in America where you just really don't get that kind of activity.
Alright, so from what I can tell: you really leveled-up on your Portuguese in a short amount of time (the two previous vids had me scared for you, for a minute). I’ve been meaning to ask if how you learned to speak Spanish so well? If you made a video about that can you link me to it? Also, I forgot that you’re “that guy” who’s from the coffee capital of the USA and hates coffee😂😂 Good video, I’m looking forward to the next one.
Thanks man. This Portuguese is no joke lol. I took Spanish in high school learning the basics, then studied some on my own before going to Colombia and being immersed in it. I never used one source, it was mostly staying disciplined and studying often on multiple platforms (e.g.,RUclips, Duolingo, googling free exercises online, etc.). That would be my tip to you - study at least 20 minutes every other day.
The state of Bahia has some of the most unique food cuisines in Brazil, with traditionl plates like moqueca, acarajé, vatapá. You should try it and show it on video.
I went to Rio Vermelho once ages ago and it seemed at the time it was frequented mostly by white middle class young crowd…all super cool of course in their Brazilian way. It is good to see you making an effort with you Portunhol Sly! 😂😂😂 In all seriousness this is why I follow these vlogs, that connection…the girl in the blue said at the end oh you can find good food there you won’t be disappointed. Be careful especially if you visit Pelourinho with your camera…wasn’t always safe.
@@Jaburu They seemed different places to me. I think in general tourists in my day that would go to Salvador were not concerned to go anywhere they just wanted to experience the local life. I remember venturing to Liberdade with a group during carnaval to check out Ile Aiye. Great experience, possibly dangerous 😂

Great video! Was that dish called a coxinha? Bro, I really enjoyed your videos in Colombia, I hated to see you leave. But these videos have opened up my eyes to several countries in South and Central America. I appreciate you taking the time to make and edit these.
The video quality is excellent. So vivid. I don't know what you're using but it's great. You seem to be some what uncomfortable or is it just me? Maybe learning the area while filming is what I'm hearing. Thanks for sharing.
I'm using the osmo pocket 2 camera and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I don't know what you mean by uncomfortable, but filming in a foreign country at night while reciting information and trying not to get robbed can cause me to studder or lose my train of thought sometimes 😅.
@@slyslife that sounds like a perfect explanation of what I'm hearing. That can't be easy.. You're doing a great job and I appreciate the sacrifices you make in order to keep providing awesome content..
Nice video! I've been studying Spanish and listening to you speak Portuguese I can understand some words. One example is when you said, "Disculpe." And there were other words that I caught. The food looks amazing.
Anytime 👌🏿. Medellín was my favorite overall because of the weather, women, friendly people, infrastructure, and cost of living, etc.). Cali was best for salsa dancing and Bogota was best for food.
what people say (narrative of Brazil is a third world coıuntry . People overall live in poverty. Crime is everywhere) and what I see in your videos are quite different . It seems that Brazil seriously is a beautiful country. I do hope that we will see the other parts of Brazil in your videos.
I'm mainly in the tourist areas and yes, Brazil has many beautiful places and attractions. However, the poverty and crime is real here and there's lots of it.
The difference between narrative and reality is the proportion of it. If you're looking for crime and poverty, you will find it, if you want. But we have to be honest, we can't put Brazil in the same basket than some other Latin-americans and African countries. Just make a comparison between a favela's house in Brazil and these other places, and you'll see the difference.
1. Does public transportation run all night? 2. This is the first time you didn't comment on the food. I guess the Shrimps weren't that good. The streets look so clean.
I don't know if they run all night, but I would probably opt for an Uber after a certain time to be safe. The acaraje was pretty good, but yea, I like my shrimp peeled.
You definitely a fish out of water with the Portuguese but good work man. Have fun. I love Brazil. They just look at us like we are idiots when we don’t understand 😂
I also want to visit Salvador Bahia this year. There aren’t any videos online of what the women are like compared to Rio which has a hook up culture. I hear that the women in Salvador are more traditional and nice. Are you able to interview some Afro Brazilian women while you’re there? I would really appreciate it and definitely subscribe!!!
why do you want to know about brazilian women ???? just for being another kind of sex turism or something ??? brazilian women outside Rio are traditional, conservative and catholic.

I will retire in 9 months and want to move somewhere for maybe 1 year in Latin America to learn Spanish. I hear so much about the different accents. I don’t know any Spanish. In your experience where do you recommend? Thanks!
As far as Spanish goes, I recommend at least a conversational level in Castilian Spanish. The "purest" spoken Spanish is probably from Colombia. If you go to say Argentina or Chile, the accents, verb conjugations, and idiosyncracies of those variations are too much for a beginner.
