      He did his best to avoid it. NATO started it. Putin asked to join NATO but the military industrial complex needed Russia as an enemy so Russia was not allowed to join the club.

    Submarines are not indestructible. They are very easy to destroy. They are very hard to detect. There's a big difference

      They are difficult to destroy because they are difficult to find. A ballistic missile sub that is sitting stationary under the ice pack is almost indestructible. It cannot be located because it makes no noise and cannot be destroyed because it cannot be located.
      If it cannot be found, it cannot be destroyed, ergo, indestructible.

    Just because the Soviet Union is no more does not mean the Cold War is over. In fact, we are closer to nuclear war than ever before. So, though there is no more Soviet Union the missile are still aimed at the US.

      The US missiles today are aimed only at Russia not the Soviet Union.. Ukraine, Baltic States, former Central Asian republics are no longer targets.

The people trying to live underground or in a barracks of some type, Cheyenne Mountain for example, will long run out of resources before it would be safe to return to the surface. Maybe the scientists living at the North & South poles have the right idea.

    В современных атомных подлодках исползуются батареи на топливных элементах когда нужно перейти в супертихий режим? Можно было использовать атомную установеку для генерации водорода и кислорода в обычом режиме, а когда надо уйти от преследования перейти на питание от топливных элементов

    There would have to be food stashes,, secretly located which would have to be relatively easy to reach. Food, medicine and clothing would be what submariners need and not be able to produce over time.

      They get dismantled down to the core in pretty much the same way.
      If I remember correctly, those then go into long-term storage somewhere in the Nevada desert.
      The biggest difference: America doesn't let its disused submarines rot until some
      other Country pays to get them scrapped.

    The submarines probably disappeared. The Americans carried a magician in their subs, and when the Russians were nearby or fired a torpedo or missile, the Russian submarines disappeared.
