I’m a Mennonite Brethren from Manitoba. I played your video on living for Jesus instead of living in the flesh last night at our Mens Bible study. Thank you for your enthusiasm in explaining the gospel story. I like the way you use lots of scripture too. We have lots of Englishers plus a former Hutterite family who attend church. Two of the Hutterite kids attended Bible Camp this summer and accepted the Lord there! They went home and asked their parents if they could be baptized. So a couple of months ago the kids together with their parents and 5 others were baptized! Glory be to Jesus, what a day that was!
Thanks again for all you do! By the way I think you are more of a preacher than a trucker. I have watched a lot of your videos and still don’t know what you are hauling 😊
    Keep on preaching Jesus, brother!

I grew up in Oregon and had a 4-H leader who was Mennonite. The family was very modern, but also very family orientated and believed in helping children. They were devout Christians who taught the Bible. She drove a car and seemed pretty progressive to me. I am 70 and this was in my childhood. The biggest difference I recall is that she could not wear pants, but she wore culottes (which is a divided skirt). She also wore a small cap, but otherwise her family was not any different. She was a wonderful cook who taught me.

Sometimes as a kid, I would go to the Mennonite church in Adair Village (near Corvallis, OR) when my family wasn’t going to our normal Lutheran church. They were always friendly and accepting. I mostly went to sing hymns.

That’s why there are so many Baptist churches people start their own church because of disagreements there ain’t no hell and some think the hell there ain’t. So Protestant churches are just like the old order churches in some ways. Don’t get me started about the damage that the abusive “saved” Jehovah witnesses do to children. Oh gosh even the Roman Catholic Church has made a saint out of the worst woman ever Mother Teresa she too believed that her victims would go straight to heaven if they suffered here on earth.. so suffer they did un fed un washed literally in their own poop. Wanted to say the other word but my Methodist grandmother would object. That woman certainly has some power I am in my seventies. I don’t remember her calling me out for saying Amsterdam, Rollingdam or Rotterdam though but if I used a word that ministers are allowed to use she didn’t like it. Also for some reason I love playing cards and playing solitaire on my device. Perhaps some personal rebellion or something similar? Thank you I didn’t realize how similar we all are . I am glad you have found your path to a better life.🌺🍀🌺👍👍👍🌟🍀🌟🖖🖖🖖🌺🍀🌺👋🤠🤚

Shortly after I retired and moved to a small town in Vermont, I met a Mennonite woman who actually drove her farm's pickup truck and used a cell phone, though she wore a traditional dress and bonnet. She saw me carrying a heavy backpack full of groceries and stopped to give me a lift home. We introduced ourselves and we exchanged phone numbers. A wonderful, kind lady, and I'm glad to have her for a friend.

I work in a hospital in southwest Florida and I had a patient who was Mennonite. She had a lot of lady visitors who dressed in long dresses and white bonnets. Everyone was curious and I was "selected" to ask very polite questions. She explained the difference to me and others who were curious. Our polite questions were answered and she was not offended by our lack of knowledge.

I live among Mennonite in rural Oregon. I love being surrounded by them. We have canned fruit, baked pies, and traded milk and eggs together. A few of the men have come to my rescue. They are warm, considerate, friendly, and generous. They carry a Bible into worship and believe in Salvation. Women wear traditional conservative dresses with the small cap, and men are in solid color pants and plaid shirts. They drive cars, massive modern farm equipment and have cell phones but no TV.

I mentioned in another video that I grew up Mennonite. We were one of the "progressive" forms of Mennonites. I do remember Sunday school and vacation Bible school lessons being very progressive. The middle school-aged kids were taught about sex as far as what the Bible teaches, and we were allowed to ask questions that lead more into the bible's teachings. I know as I grew older I strayed away from it all, my Grandmother never once gave up on me or anyone she loved. To this day I believe her relationship and faith in God, as well as her prayers, is what saved me from a downward un recoverable spiral. I asked her one time in our many many phone conversations why she never gave up on me when so many others did. Her response was beautiful "I don't give up because God and Jesus don't give up, while God had you move away further than I like, from what I see in our town and knowing your struggles I know he did what was best. He gave you a wife that you love and that loves you, a beautiful son, and you are doing well." I tell you all of that to say this, many orders of Mennonites and Amish do not believe in this, hers and our church's views and lessons were from the bible. It seems to me the more strict orders are less biblical than the more permissive ones.

My husband was raised Mennonite. They were more progressive in his teenage years. In his early years they were more like the Old Order Mennonites. We still have some Old Order Mennonites here in Canada. Women and children on one side of the church, men and older boys on the other side. They also believe in adult baptism. His dad was born in Mexico. They traveled there from Canada in 1923-24. They came back in 1929 for a couple years and then traveled back to Mexico once again for a few years, before traveling back to Saskatchewan, Canada for good. My husband still speaks his plautdietch language. He could speak no English when he started school in 1961 Grade 1. Anyway, sorry for the long winded story. Loved your video.

None of us were Mennonite we even went to their church nothing was ever forced upon us they seemed more interested in teaching us about God directly from the Bible. They became pretty well known in the town very down to earth group of people. Quite a few Amish families where I lived as well. They were all very nice never thought anything about them they were a little more secretive but never bothered anyone. Was pretty cool I saw a group of them build a house with nothing but handsaws hammers and nails a lot quicker than I see some building houses with power tools 😂

You’re very correct not one group has the same beliefs. The modern Mennonite have expensive tractors and drive expensive vehicles as well as have RVs. I grew up in a northern Michigan rural area that was overwhelmingly Mennonite. The community also had many Amish. I was raised Catholic and was a very small minority (religiously speaking) in the public school I went to. Despite being Catholic, I attended after-school Mennonite programs simply because that's what my friends did. I don't recall a single time I felt that the Mennonites running these programs even suggested I "join" them or was in any way more sinful because I was Catholic.
My family made an ice rink in our backyard every winter. It was very big, and we set up boards and had hockey games every weekend. The Amish would come by on horse and buggy to play hockey with us.
Fast forward 30 years to now, I'm no longer religious, yet when I visit that area, everyone is incredibly welcoming.
Seeing videos like this and learning more about the different Amish and Mennonite communities that are out there, I understand that where I grew up was probably one of the most relaxed and welcoming of these communities in the country.

Hi Eli, I’m from France and particularly in Alsace where a great number of Mennonite’s and Amish came from! If not from here then along the Rhin and German speaking parts of Europe. I lived in Pa. And my parents liked to go to Amish parts of Pa. For the fun of speaking Alsatian which Amish and most mennonites speak or understand! I do too and even used it to learn French when we came back as I only spoke English and even thought I’d be American some day! Back to Alsace I met a church organized by brethren and that changed my life to what is really recommended by our Messiah that is being « born again » as recommended to nicodemis by Him! That’s all that counts since it can only happen through the Holy Spirit ! So be blessed and continue your testemony!

I grew up “New” Mennonite (Mennonite Brethren) in Oklahoma and we believed in salvation based on scripture. We believe in the Bible. I often compared it to Baptist. The “Old” Mennonites (Holderman Mennonites) lived outside our town. They had no radios in their cars. No TVs. My grandparents were close with many of them and even my mother grew up with them because they attended our public schools until the early 80’s. When I was about 6th grade they started their own school and pulled their kids out. I do remember as a child our pastor saying how he was trying to preach liberty like it’s ok to wash your car on Sunday. I didn’t grow up with a dress code either. Although, the independent Baptist churches (IFB) I’ve attended as an adult have also pushed dress codes. But I’ve always seen those things as suggestions not rules I have to follow.
I have come to believe that outward appearances is a substitute for real godliness sometimes. You look the part so you think you’re godly while the heart is the real test of your character. Out of the mouth, the heart speaks. For many, Rule following is easier that dealing with the truth of a bad heart.

Did you watch the video, he spent the whole video bashing the Amish, misrepresenting their understanding of salvation by calling it salvation by works and ended by calling them a cult.
It best be that it's due to ignorance, him being a non baptized child of the Amish and all, because if it was an intentional deliberate misrepresentation, then he stood there claiming to be saved while lies tumbled from his lips.

@@grovermartin6874 good, then you would know that if you asked your Amish friends, if I live your lifestyle will I be saved?, they will tell you no, you have to join the Church.
If the Amish believed in salvation by works, then anyone who strictly adhered to their lifestyle would be saved, the reason they are telling you that you have to join the Church, is because the bishop needs to determine if you are born again, if you truly have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
If you do, then you can join the Church and take on the yoke of obedience to heaven.
As I mentioned, point 6 of the Dordrecht Confession of Faith, clearly states that salvation by works is an impossibility.
Obedience to Scripture is only for those who are saved, which is why the Amish don't force their Christian standards upon the unsaved, nor do they insist that the unsaved live like them.
For how can the unsaved without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit abide by the commandments of God, certainly not when they are filled with evil spirits of rebellion and defiance against God.
In a nutshell, living a Christian lifestyle is only for those already saved, it is a sign of salvation, not a cause of salvation.
However because the Bible teaches that one can lose one's salvation, it is never good to boast of being saved, for tomorrow one may be tested and found wanting.
What is astounding to me, is how many self proclaimed Christians living in open rebellion and defiance to God's commandments, run around claiming to be saved.
Please! Their worldly lifestyle indicates that they are not even Christians let alone saved.
But to cover up their rebellious unsaved lifestyle of hedonistic worldly pleasures, they accuse those living a Christian lifestyle of doing it out of a desire for salvation, ie salvation by works, but what do they understand in their unsaved rebellious state, is that obedience to Scripture is a mark of salvation, of bending one's knee to God in submission, an act only those with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit can and will do.
How the demonic try and twist good for evil and evil for good.
Disclaimer, I cannot speak on what other individuals in the Church may tell you, or how they will explain their understanding of why they do what they do.
I can merely tell you what has been taught from the beginning and give you the source material for that teaching.
If error of understanding has crept into some people's understanding of the truth, please use the source material to correct them.

We have a family of Amish we are friends with & they’ve had issues within their church because of all their “English “ friends, due their business. They almost moved to Pennsylvania last year because of it, but the sale of their house fell through.
Also, they had moved a couple of years ago to get away from Amish neighbors who were harassing them for how they raise their kids & how their kids behaved. It’s all seemed so crazy to us, because they are such a friendly, fun & caring family.

I grew up in SW Ontario about 30 minutes from St. Jacob's and Elmira where there were both Mennonite and Amish families. Amish always wore either plain navy or black with the women wearing black bonnets. Some Mennonites look just like John or Jane on the street and drive normal vehicles. Others wear light print dresses with prayer caps and the guys wear lighter shirts and jeans and drive black vehicles with blackened bumpers and rims. Old order Mennonites have dark print dresses and obviously hand made shirts and pants for the men and the women also wear black bonnets but they only drive horse and buggy. The last time I went to the Elmira maple syrup festival, the road was lined with both old order Mennonites and Amish selling maple products and both Amish and Mennonite men sitting in their buggies with a small TV on the dash and most using Blackberrys. This was probably 12 years ago when RIM was very prevalent and RIM facilities were 15 minutes from there. I now live in Saskatchewan and there are new order Mennonites here but also Hutterites, another similar but different.

Amen brother!! I grew up old order Mennonite in southern md. As a teen I could not agree with the teachings of following man’s rule but I got lost in drugs and anything else that came my way, since I was taught that their way is the only way and I could see that their way could not be right,I let the devil convince me that there is no hope and it doesn’t matter what I did. Thanks be to the almighty god that I found true salvation and freedom in Christ Jesus!!! Now I am appalled at the lost ways that destroys so many lives and the huge amount of people that are suffering and don’t know why.

This was riveting. You gave us so much information it really was educational. How some of the old Amish and Mennonite churches can condone abuse and simply slap the hands of the perpetrators and say they are forgiven and will go to heaven, just astounds me. Wicked people will not go to the Light, but will be cast into eternal darkness. And their rule books will go with them!

There is a church near me that is supposedly Mennonite, but the women are allowed to wear pants and don't have to cover their heads. I had not known it was a Menonnite church until I volunteered at a senior citizens program there. The pastor was really nice and taught bible study to the seniors who were interested. I sat in on a couple, and it wasn't really different than other churches I went to. It's very different than what I thought Mennonite was.

This Sunday was my Easter (I am Eastern Orthodox) and during service the priest spoke about how the darkness cannot see the light. That really made an impression on me. If you're in darkness you cannot see the real light. Rules like for example the Amish (but not just them) and the rest, do not see the light because when you are in darkness you can't see the light. You think you are in the light, but you are really in the darkness.

In my business I interact a lot with Hutterites and I pray that I can be a witness to them.

Eli, I'm glad I found your channel. I find it very interesting the Amish ways. I was wondering what part of Tennessee you are referring to that you had visited? I deal with a Amish guy in the Lawrenceburg/Ethridge area to buy my bee equipment. We also have a small Mennonite community in the Danville, Alabama area, actually with the last name Yoder as well, that have several businesses, including a couple of storage building companies, a restaurant, a deli/bakery called "The Dutch Oven Bakery" and a metal production business. They seem a lot more laid back than the Amish in TN and I know they use cars on a regular business. Some are new model trucks. It just fascinates me. Keep up the great work and God Bless.

My home town in California. ( near chico) has a decent size Mennonite community. They drive white cars with no radio. And they do use modern farm equipment, tractors harvester things like this. All the women wear floral dresses with the little hat. The men wear a white button down shirt and the older men all have beards. They have their own school out in the foothills, we drove past while working one day and I saw them shooting model rockets up into the sky. I thought it was really cool. We never did anything like that in our public school

Cool vid. Enjoyed the content, candidness and heart felt love for wanting your counterparts to "see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ" (2 Cor 4:4). I couldn't help but think of John 3:19 @7:44 ", and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil". Without a heart change (and only the LORD can change a heart) people easily revert into legalism and works and be blinded to the condition of their own heart. “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, *fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders." Mt 15:19 .
You hit the nail on the head "Read your Bible".
    Thanks again.

I agree Eli, I am related to many different types of Mennonites. Even the conservative group, whom I love and they preach the gospel and love Jesus but can be legalistic. If you want to join the church you have to wear a certain type of dress and a certain type head covering. Some say white covering some black some mesh, some cape dress some a certain length Not a choice. And one of my beefs, here in cold Canada the woman are not allowed to wear winter hats. That is in the conservative Anabaptist. Also some groups, if you are divorced and remarried, they make you separate from your second wife. So be careful people, doctrine matters. The Mennonites followed Menno Simmons, Jacob Ammon and group split over shunning and house church is my understanding and the hutterites followed Jacob Hutter for communal living. God bless your ministry Eli.

Nan, you say, "Also some groups, if you are divorced and remarried, they make you separate from your second wife. So be careful people, doctrine matters." If Eli's first marriage was mere fornication and not really biblical marriage but cultural marriage and the woman was not a virgin to begin with, then I do not believe he is responsible to stay with such a woman as a wife. However, concerning his second marriage, I've talked to him through posts about it. If his second wife is not a virgin either, what's the difference between her and his first wife? He has never made it transparent. Read my link on transparency and you will see why Christians should be concerned about this. Check your channel discussion to see the link. (I don't associate with Eli or talk to him directly now. He won't let me put links on his page either.)

It's crazy, but true.

Here in Calaveras County, CA is a community of mennonites who are involved in disaster relief, have a huge agricultural market, and sell sheds and wooden furniture. They took care of an elderly Episcopalian friend and even made sure she had an appropriate burial, with a group of their families and a few friends attending and singing. They'd haul the goods and the Mennonite group in the area handled the calling on the auctions. Accepted bids by English who bought for restaurants in local larger communities as well as for church kitchen get-togethers. The farm we lived at had a CSA vegetable and meat share program. Though the vegetables and fruits were Amish grown. They sold shares to the public.

I respect that you are able to separate your old community from a belief in God. Most people can't. They think if their church/religion is wrong, it means there is no God at all! I believe there is a God, but you don't have to report to a special kind of church, or agree 100% with that church, to be saved.

They do believe in salvation, it's why they are following the Word of God, believing themselves to have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
The question is why do those English who claim to be saved, ignore the Word of God and follow the ways of the world?
Such as women not wearing head coverings in disobedience to scripture 1Cor. 11:1-16, or women wearing pants, whom God calls an abomination. 1Tim 2:9; Deut 22:5.
Do you think those that are wilfully disobedient to scripture and those whom God calls an abomination will enter heaven? I don't think so.
You can call yourself a Christian, you can claim to be saved, but if you look like the world, walk like the world, live like the world, you will be going to hell like the world. Don't be fooled by the servants of darkness like this guy.

Here in southwest Missouri we have a large group that call themselves Amish\Mennonites. They all drive and carry cell phones and have others post stuff on the internet for them to sell. It also helped them to skate a bunch of rules by being able to put up large commercial chicken houses on every corner and ruin the drinking water because the government won’t touch them like they do the regular farmers
