Dear Eli, when I was 12 I immigrated to the US with my parents , and we were so confused with all the denominations so as I got older I turned Catholic but no longer go to church , I can not believe in what they are doing , so much wrong doing , I was Lutheran in Germany , I am 78 now so I have been here a very long time and all I do now is read my Bible , I read the Living Bible , anytime people get in charge it goes wrong. I absolutely love listening to your show , you lee up the good work .

Brother Eli, you bring up an interesting point about “the system”. It doesn’t make much difference whether you are Amish, Anabaptist, Lutheran or Roman Catholic, if the denomination and its pridefulness stand between you and the Truth of God’s Word, stand with the Truth of God’s Word. All the rest is traditions of man. Keep up the righteous work, brother, onward toward the Kingdom!

Not English or worldly, call yourself Christian. I find there is a pride amongst the old order Amish of being Amish, regardless of what God says about pride. As I have said before, it breaks my heart for them that they are tied to rules and regulations. They are missing the freedom Christ came to bring. So thankful you have found it. • @lenitaa7938
      @lenitaa7938 10 месяцев назад

The Amish, the Baptists and the Mennonites are called Anabaptists! They escaped the severe, violent religious persecution (in Prussia , Northern Europe) from the Catholic Church to various countries! They are the ex-Catholics!
They used to be together, but later the Amish group broke away and changed their name to Amish! They had disagreed with the rest of the Anabaptists ( anti-Child Baptism) on ‘what’s of the World’!
The Amish are stuck in the bygone era! It seems they believe that modern conveniences, such as cars, electricity, tractors, motors, rubber tires, modern clothes, haircuts, etc etc are sinful! Fundamentalist and ultra-traditional!
Eli mentioned that the Amish broke away, also, over the disagreement on how shunning ought to be done, and which behaviours to be punished!
The New Testament is very clear on the church discipline! The Amish take it much further! Amish discipline and shun over the most petty things, such as the colour and length of the skirt, the wide brim of the hat, the horse buggies aesthetics , etc! Very controlling!
The Mennonites, in the West, in general, are much more progressive, have electricity, cars, (no longer live in the closed colonies as they used to in Ukraine, etc) , are more modern in clothing they wear!
Some un-Evangelical Mennonite groups still live in the closed colonies, such as in Mexico, Paraguay, etc!
There are different kinds of Mennonites, also! Many are Evangelical, such as the Mennonite Brethren and the General Conference, but not all! Some are still extremely legalistic, also, such as the ones in the Prairies, Canada!
I am from the traditional ancestral Mennonite line! My parents used to be from the Old Mennonite colonies in Ukraine, where they found refuge from the persecution in Germanic Europe ! They speak Low German!
Here in Canada, we were part of the Mennonite Brethren Conference (Evangelical) churches! Conservative Christians!
I went to a great (Mennonite) Columbia Bible College on the West Coast of Canada, where we were taught Not to be legalistic and how to do critical thinking, evaluate and question!
Amish are taught not to question, and stress obedience!
Anyone, of any ethnicity, nationality, skin colour, can go to and join the Mennonite Churches! The Mennonites eased on divorce prohibition!
It is much harder to join the Amish closed colonies! I doubt the Amish would accept people of colour! Perhaps Eli can speak on this better!
Both Amish and Mennonites are Pacifists!
The Amish do not believe in Salvation by Grace through Faith nor in Evangelism!
The Amish stress obedience to the Bishop and salvation through works! ( probably carried this from the Roman Catholic Church in their historical past)
The Old Order Amish, in general, do not allow any Bible Study groups! Nor do they allow English-lang Bibles! Again, strangely enough, they carried this very prohibition from the historical Roman Catholic Church ( State Church in Europe)!

Eli, just suggesting an idea for your father's grave: Instead of putting seeds down, get the little annual plants already started (like marigolds, petunias, salvia, etc.) and plant those. You don't have to wait to see if seeds will come up. Just need to clear a small spot, place in the ground and water. The ones I mentioned pretty much go on their own once in the ground and watered a couple of times. OR you could plant a rose bush, those are very hardy, such as the Knock Out Roses. And roses come back every year.

More likely because the US Supreme Court and the lower circuits have repeatedly overturned laws, administrative policies, and rulings that restricted Amish freedom of practice. When the State of Wisconsin lost their case against the Amish both in their state supreme court as well as at the US Supreme Court in 1972, the justices pointed out that the record of Amish stability and contribution to society was older than Wisconsin itself was, and that their children were clearly as prepared to support their families and communities with their 8th-grade educations than the public schools could achieve by 12th grade. The justices stated that this kind of exception would be available for very few other groups without that centuries-long track record. The federal justices have not changed their stance, excoriating officials and courts in Minnesota a couple of years ago for making exceptions for the state regarding septic system requirements in certain situations while being unwilling to work with the Amish who wanted to employ a similar exception.

The same thing you would say with the fundamental of latter-day saints. They got away with a lot and were above the law. However they did it in the little bit different because many of the police officers were about of the chruch.
I think part of the problem is Amish is romancized to much.
This goes back to simple always fantasizing a simpler time, but they themselves having no attempt to live simpler. Amish are oddly good at marketing themselves. And probably the local towns protect them in a lot of ways too especially Lancaster given the tourism. It basically Disney-ize Amish, because this is a more palatable version of Amish that people want to hear.

The image of a brilliant white horse pulling a black Amish buggy. Would certainly become an iconic symbol of Amish oppression. As here in Ohio all Amish horses are either all black or dark bays ( dark reddish brown ) with very few markings such as a blaze or stockings. It would sure cause heads to turn. And cause a few faces to turn red. What a homage to Eli's dad that would make 😮😅. If I was Eli I:d have that painted on my truck!!!!

Much respect for you, brother. The Catholics were so persecuted and hated even in the beginning of the founding of our great country. They had to follow all the man-made laws, rightfully. Our Church says, God first, country second. Of course we have some mighty evil people in the Church, and they have gotten away with awful crimes. Little by little these crimes are coming to the surface, and many will face justice, thank goodness. We cannot judge another's heart; however, we can judge a person's actions. Hate the sin, love the sinner.

Thank you for this video. I'm from Central Pennsylvania and we have a couple of small Amish communities not far from me. I always understood that the Amish lived simply and modestly without technology or worldly conveniences in an effort to remain godly and to be 'in the world but not of the world' as described in John 17:14-16, but this was an eye-opener for me. Two things you said really stood out to me.
First, you said, "...they always had this system to protect what they believe is God's church..." My thought was, "My God is an awesome God. If he has blessed this church, it doesn't need the protection of man." If they were running the church and the community by Christian principles, it wouldn't be so fragile that they would have to ostracize anyone who didn't want to adhere to the strict dress code and the no-technology rules. "When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him." Proverbs 16:7
The thing that REALLY knocked me for a loop, though, is that they shunned your father even in death because, "...they didn't believe that he was able to repent and be forgiven because the church didn't have time to forgive him and vote on his forgiveness...'Father Bishop' has to deem him forgiven before God can forgive him...'" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! The audacity! For a community that is supposed to be humble and have humility before God, this is arrogance to the point of insanity. How DARE they imagine that God requires their consent to forgive someone?
Ooooh, this has me mad enough to chew nails and spit tacks!
In some circumstances, like property crimes and dress code violations (but not crimes against a person), I can understand the church shunning someone for a time and then voting to forgive being a necessary step to repairing that person's relationship with the community. I can even understand not involving the English law, because the shunning/forgiveness process is no different than an English person serving time for a crime and being granted parole or probation. I can see it as part of the process allowing the community to live in peace after a wrong has been done, and there are numerous Bible verses telling us to live in harmony with one another.
But the Bible tells us that Jesus himself said he was the ONLY intercessor who was necessary and sufficient to obtaining God's forgiveness. How can anyone read John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me," and still think any clergyman or congregation could have any influence on whether God forgave an individual? How could any clergyman who claims to believe in the Bible as the Word of God teach such an arrogant, prideful doctrine and not fear he was committing heresy?
Thank you for educating me, Eli. I always knew some Amish communities covered up a lot of crimes against women and children, but so do a lot of English communities, religious institutions, and families, including past generations of my own family, which only came to light after one of my relatives suffered a brain injury, started having flashbacks, and no longer had the capacity to bottle things up like she had done for the previous fifty years. I never imagined that in some communities, these people who present themselves as so upright, righteous, and pious to the English world might follow a doctrine that places their own judgement before God's.
The nerve they have to do that is unimaginable to me.

You can always see your loved ones in your dreams.
    Search this song:
Holy Spirit, Rain Down Heritage Singers
This song is the theme for this Revival within Christ's Church.
When you speak with the Bishops, remind them of these words of Jewish Rabbi Joshua/Jesus the Messiah/Christ:
"You are the salt of the earth: but if salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned (again)? It is good for nothing but to be thrown out & tranpled under foot....
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
"Nor do they light a lamp & put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, & it gives light to all who are in the house.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works & glorify you Father in heaven." Mat.5:13-16
We are to be IN the world but NOT OF the world.

It seems those of us who've witnessed tyranny, being outcast, whatever, isolation and bullshit people cause, understand the value of Freedom. We need more people being outspoken like this. There seems to be so many political agendas geared towards devaluing our rights, and undermining the Freedom we have.

In my country, when there is a lawsuit where it is about 'cant follow this law because of my religion', it is always a case to case decision if in the matter in question the right of safety etc of others or the right of religious practice of the person has to step back behind the other, or if there might be a way where they can still follow both their religion and the law. Because it is a very saucy topic that needs to be examined very carefully.

I know the name Yoder is big around here in the Minanights. This man and his son are Yoder. I hope to ask him soon. He told my daughter that they want to help us as our home is in need of multiple big repairs. This man also talked to my daughter about the goodness of God. I'm so glad God wanted us to meet and know these men. I do believe Jesus is protecting us bc the tree only damaged the porch and didn't hurt us. I clamed psalms 91 and believe That all things work together to them that love him. I've seen this so many times God has turned things bad into good and brought better things to past in my life . Jesus is so good to us all!

I find it interesting that under the guise of forgiveness that they will repeatedly put a sex abuser back into a home to reoffend. That's not Christian to do that nor even kind. Pedophilia cannot be rehabilitated, so they continue to hurt children. Cannot they see that they need to put the offender in jail away from children?

    • @lenitaa7938
      @lenitaa7938 10 месяцев назад

It seems they do not nor can comprehend the great harm the sexual and domestic abuse create!
I think lack of awareness, insight , and lack of adequate education are their big issues! Being insular, they do not seek help in dealing with these big issues! Eli mentioned that they may not know how to deal with these abuses! Nor are they seem to be open to learn!
The Bishops could have reached out to get more info, but they do not respect the English’ ‘wordly’ education! Nor do they want any interference on how to do things in their communities! Closed-minded to extreme!
They handle the abuse issues how they always had done!
Also, some Bishops had committed these sexual abuses, themselves! Why would they want the police to intervene!??
Lack of any sex education is a big issue! The children are not taught how to behave when the puberty hits! So, they follow the animal instinct!
They couples are taught intimacy On the Wedding Day by the male Deacons!!! Yikes!

I want to thank you, Eli. I grew up on our family 240,000 acre west Texas cattle ranch, and there are no Amish anywhere near there. I served as an air force fighter pilot and then eventually went to work flying for Continental airlines. I moved around a lot, and married and had children.
We ended up in the Midwest for about 8 years, and sort of sandwiched between several Amish communities that now, thanks to you, I realize were of the stricter variety. (I thought Amish was Amish before you)
The local people by and large despised the Amish, mostly because the law didn't seem to apply to them. Personally I'm a lifelong atheist and very "live and let live" when it comes to religion, but it was hard to do so when these people were given unfair rights to violate laws with no punishment.
The courts upheld Amish freedom but local law enforcement did not. An Amish man allegedly raped and murdered a 14 year old local girl and the Amish protected him and blocked the investigation... This was before we moved there and was the start of the hatred for the Amish in that area.
I've met Amish people elsewhere that I wanted to like, but I couldn't figure out how both could be from the same group. Thanks to you I now understand that they're not from the same group at all, Amish is actually kind of a spectrum, the way woke weirdos try to claim that gender is. Or put another way, not all Amish are created equally.
Thank you for the enlightening videos, my friend. Keep them coming, they're fascinating!
    Cheers!

    Hi Eli,
Something to remember which I think you can relate too even though we have very different upbringing.....
the lord said he will forgive whom he will forgive but of us(all mortals) we are to forgive all and 7x70 is not a number but a principle. Even Christ labored on the sabbath to heal his sheep (against the religious rules and regulations of his time)....
This lesson can easily be missed by religious leaders.
Your dad did his best to raise his boys how he felt was right even though it was litterally killing him and that is something to be proud of. Your mom is trying to raise her family how she believes is right, that is also admirable even if in her efforts to honor her parents she has missed the mark on that scripture lesson. Just remember, this failing is common to the human race and nothing we haven't seen before and will see again. Just love her, your family, and be patient with the woman who cleaned your butt and fed your face while sculpting you into who you are today. She and your father gave you a good work ethic which is something a lot of folks lack, taught you how to provide yourself and your family with good food and a stable life instead of living on state welfare, taught you the importance of family and sadly the effect of following proud traditions blindly so hopefully you may preserve yours and go into situations with both eyes open. Your parents raised you with enough strength of character to defy your cultural norms and walk away from everything you knew once you came to believe it wasnt true...to stand up for the truth you do know.
I am not saying what they do is right in the amish culture, but your parents gave you several gifts beyond measure. The truth is out there, its in plain view, and though the feast is set for the taking.... not everyone understands.
Love your mom, forgive your mom....and like she did for you, wait for her to understand. It might not happen before she dies, but wait for her to shed her pride and misunderstandings.

I have always had a healthy respect for people who live Amish or Mennonite..we have them here in, Western Washington. I have always wanted to engage, just out of curiosity and a healthy respect for how they live life..I’m fascinated. But I understand my fascination may not be welcomed, so I have never said more than a polite hello. I almost wish I was living a New-order life with my fiancé and daughter. Growing up in the technological age has been exhausting, I feel completely disconnected from the simple important parts of life and deprived of the knowledge I wish for in regards to living an off grid existence.
But to think some orders believe they have more authority than god, to forgive sin…
That’s bordering on on a Roman’s 2:24 situation.. 👀 no one has a higher authority to forgive than god. The members do wrong to pretend so.

I lived with the old order Mennonites for years. What I miss most about it is the community and simplicity of their lives. You can live a simpler life in the world by the choices you make. You don't have to have all the new games and bells and whistles. Example... Yes you need a phone, but do you have to spend $800-$1000 for high tech? You can grow your own food, can/freeze, etc. We have just gotten too lazy and expect immediate gratification. But over all, live the call to follow Christ in all your decisions.

I try to only make purchases that I intend to, “last a lifetime”. I enjoy second hand clothing, it tends to be better quality. I take real joy in trying to decrease waste, and leaving as small a chemical footprint as possible. While I believe modern medicine to be necessary and life saving. I also find modern medicine has a habit of putting band-aids on issues, until they becomes life threatening. I believe the real medicine grows from the ground. And while I do believe in the Abrahamic God, I follow the Quran. The beautiful thing about this book is, it is all about gratitude for the graces of god. I look forward to one day spending the majority of my time showing gratitude by living in use to the land, because we are it’s caretakers. Just gotta keep saving up for it.
