I heard people have had problems with the transmission. But I don't know if it needs a factory reset most of the time but I've heard not so good things
I bought a 2021 A-Spec last week. Agree that the lack of wireless Carplay is an odd choice given the overall trend of cars. I figure I'll buy a wireless adaptor if it bugs me in the long run. I don't agree with the road noise comments. It's not a quiet car, but it's not a noisy car either. I did laugh at the dealer when they tried to brag about how quiet it was though. The lack of heated steering and remote start in the A-Spec are my two biggest complaints about the car. My 13 year old Silverado has remote start, but in the A-Spec, you have to pay $199 per year and hope the car is receiving a signal in order to use the app for remote start. Extremely lame. The heated steering wheel is something I'll miss from my 5 series, but the material in the Acura steering wheel is such that it may not be an issue. We'll see. My final gripe is the lack of power. I bought the car knowing what I was getting, but coming from a BMW 535i to a TLX is a big drop in straight line performance. For a car that stickers close to $50k, it doesn't put the power to the ground as effectively as the Accord that is $10k cheaper. As far as likes, the steering turn in is incredibly well tuned and far superior to my BMW. As the video indicates, it drives like a smaller car than it is. I like the safety improvements and the Acura's Lanekeeping assist is pretty damned good.....on the highway. I tried it in town on a test drive and it sucks on a city street. Adaptive cruise control is superior to the one in my wife's Mazda CX-9. So far, I'm liking the car more and more as every day passes. It's fast enough for "normal" driving and the driving experience overall is very good. For those that are interested, I got an incredible price on the car by purchasing it on the last day of April. Acura practically gave the car to me.
I feel like the accord has more features, better ergonomics, and superior cabin space for its price. You're really only getting a little sportier look with the tlx, better audio, and all wheel drive. Better cabin materials and lighting. But you get remote start, wireless android auto and Apple car play, head up display, and heated steering wheel with the accord. And the 2.0t is actually quicker than the acura, and the ergonomics are just better. Sorry, but a touch screen is just better. The mouse pad would be difficult to use while driving.
Trying to convince yourself, James? No, the ergonomics are much better in the TLX, you aren't sitting on a wooden plank in those uncomfortable Accord cloth seats, the audio sucks in the Accord and its rear end? FUGLY. In fact, the whole car lacks in visual appeal next to the TLX. Smaller car. More features in the Accord? No ambient lighting & no premium audio system. TLX is equipped with wireless charging, remote start & heated wheel to your point. I think you're just upset you didn't get a better car for your money.
Nice review! This car intrigues me as it’s a new and different platform/chassis than the Accord Sport 2.0T I have. I wonder if the Advance Package TLX is a little quieter on the road since it has adaptive dampers? The ASpec doesn’t but I thought it did have acoustic glass. Pretty sure Advance does.
@@Bail_Money Interesting. Seems like that’s commonplace. More engaging driving-performance-handling wise whereas Lexus will be more quiet and comfortable.
I agree with you. This is the same as the outgoing TLX just with a longer front end and wider frame. The interior has improved a lot. I still would wait for the Type-S. This trim doesn't compete with the RLX in my opinion. But it's a great improvement and investment. Appreciate you Nolan.
This is nothing like the outgoing TLX. Completely different chassis, different engine, different sheet metal, different transmission, drives waaaaay better, has more low end torque etc. This 2021 TLX is completely different than the previous model, it’s not even close. Almost no similarities except the fact that it’s an Acura TLX
The size in the back is like an ilx. I wouldn't like it either. I hate that it's still wired for android auto but I had an ilx that connected everything wireless and the music lagged so maybe that's why it's not wireless.
@@jackon111 Cars aren't ever a good investment. I've had mine since May of 23 and really like it. It's a fun car, you feel extremely confident driving it, it's comfortable for long trips, and a great daily.
It doesn't require premium, you can run it on 87 no problem. 91 is only "recommended." This actually applies for the entire Acura lineup, except the NSX. You may have a very slight performance decrease by putting in 87, but it'll be unnoticeable for 99% of people.
@@Cynical496 yeah... try buying a turbo engine and dishing out 50k only to fill it with crappy gas. No one fills their turbo up with 87 my friend. You'll be hitting the 3.50/gal pump in this thing often. The performance drop is noticeable.
Awesome! Glad I watch your review first. Driving a Honda Insight, road noise was the main complaint. Specially taking long trips. When are you doing a 2022 MDX?
The road noise isn’t terrible but for being a premium sedan, it’s louder than most. Compared to most mainstream brands it’s pretty similar to them. I believe I’m supposed to get one in about a month 👍
I was looking for a replacement for my 2015 dodge charger R/T since dodge stupidity decide to kill the hole line of muscle cars and go stupid all electric. I was looking for a different car on four door and I almost pick this 2023 Acura TLX Aspect BUT the lack of horse power make me look to the Type S And that the one I got. Love the car to much electronic but is just get used to it. Now I honest will love to see this car come from factory with at least 20 more horses. But I guess I will tune it soon. Other than that is a nice fun looking car.
Very well done, i test drove it two weeks ago along with new MDX and so far this is the best critique done of the TLX and i have watched many reviews. I am also a long time Acura owner and they should have kept V6 option with all new design and that would have made for an awesome combo. I don't like the buzzy 4cyl compared to my V6 i have now. And in the MDX, the same V6 is a let down because you need the Type S treatment to round out what is otherwise an amazing refresh(Trac pad sucks in both however). I waited so long hoping for GREATNESS for both TLX and MDX and they came close but now i'm looking at everything out there thanks to disappointments ....i.e......new Genesis and others......I'm sure Type S in both will be great but at a price that will make other vehicles look like better alternatives. One more thing.....the choice of a 4cyl turbo should have been a 2.5 4cyl. not a 2.0...... like hyundai and kia are doing. Pretty embarrassing when they have quicker cars!
You just contradicted your self . Complaining about the TLX that doesn't come with a na v6 and on the other hand the MDX has but you still complaining. Go luck with your new purchase
Well just keep in mind the auto industry is just shifting to turbos. However I do agree that the base engine should at least been a 2.5. Why did they choose a 2.0 I really do not know. But I really was excited for this car until the rear seat and trunk numbers were announced. The pricing in California is on the brink of 50k after tax just for a ASPEC SH-AWD. Type S will have people looking elsewhere given how much that car will cost. Still a great looking car none the less.
@@B1ackAlloy1992 It’s because Honda/Acura doesn’t have a 2.5. So they would have to create a brand new engine. On top of the brand new 3.0 in the Type S. That’s expensive and very risky to introduce 2 brand new engines on the same car. They also wouldn’t use the 2.4 as that engine has seen many different variations since 2000 I believe. It was time to move on. They knew they had a winner with the 2.0 T as it’s been throughly tested in the Accord and people love it.
@@stlcurtain89 okay but you also need to understand what type of engine you are putting and then about the weight of the car. TLX is 4000 lbs. accord does not weight nearly as much as that which is why that engine is perfect for the accord. Would have been a better move. Considering Acura is replacing the ILX with a car similar in stature you just use the 2.0 in that model and have a 2.5 turbo and a 3.0 twin turbo in all type s vehicles. They could have done that. But moral of the story they should have considered weight before just shoving that engine in the TLX.
@@B1ackAlloy1992 Yes the TLX is like 500lbs heavier than the Accord. But they knew with using the 2.0, they would have more HP and torque than the previous 3.5, while being lighter. Whatever they do with the future ILX, I think we can both agree the 2.0 in that will make it fantastic to drive. Maybe even with SHAWD. Idk if you’ve driven the new TLX, but if you haven’t, I suggest you do it. When I did, not once did it occur to me that it was a 2 ton car. It hides it extremely well.
That contributes, but certainly not the only thing. Regardless..these are the tires the car comes with and all new vehicles I receive are tested with stock tires and the exact same parameters
They're nice cars until the warranty runs out lol. My friend with a 2020 330i has had to bring to to the dealer multiple times already. Back right TPMS sensor is wonky, intermittent headlight warnings, seat memory resetting itself, and a weird pinging noise at higher RPMs. She's trading it in at the end of this month for a Lexus ES and I can't say I blame her.
yea, for that money, the bmw won't last you 20 years bro with minimal issues. if ur going to waste your money in this market (where obviously MSRP matters), you need to get a decent investment. a bmw ain't it.
Got the TLX with the Tech package (front wheel drive). The road noise is not acceptable for a luxury brand like Acura, it really bugs me. My ELS sound system in a step below the A Spec and it sounds so-so. The car is cramped inside, low roof, tight rear legroom. The size of this car comes from the long hood lines - which makes it look good. Midrange torque is a blast, to be honest - quick enough for me. Should have been programed (ECU) for 300hp.
I don’t understand why the hood is so damn long. If the hood was shorter and if the car maybe was not quite as wide it would cut down the weight and make that turbo 4 cylinder be more peppy than it is now. Acura is close. I just think it’s too big and too heavy
I'm having so many issues with mine. I have a leak in it somewhere, the engine sounds weird and I get a high pitched noise when I accelerate. I do not believe that it is the turbo as I did not hear it present on the TLX loaner I had. I do not like the factory tires whatsoever, and I am disappointed with the gas mileage.
I read a few people were having issues. I kind of turned away from the TLX since it is the first year of a new generation. However I’m shocked that MPG is not good for you. What is your MPG at the moment? I really do hope that you stop having issues with your TLX cause it is a nice looking car.
No remote start on an A-Spec sold in the US. Gets chilly in Ohio in December and January. It sure is nice to remote start your car from your house and let it warm up in the morning before heading out. At over $47K, it is sort of inexcusable not to have a remote start.

I have a 2017 gs350 awd f sport and regarding your statement of choosing an Lexus IS or Acura’s tlx, It’s Lexus hands down. Give me a NA V6 with rwd based awd over i4 turbo fwd based awd system any day. This new tlx actually looks really nice but it’s not a sports sedan it’s a luxury sedan with sporty touches. I’d choose a 2021 is350 rwd with a lsd or awd over this fwd based awd drivetrain. “Sh awd” is overhyped Acura marketing bs it’s nothing special. It’s inherently a fwd car that is using fwd most of the time. Its fwd based platform will never feel and perform as good as rwd based awd, dynamically it’s just inferior compared to its competitors with their rwd based awd system.
Lexus has one of, if not the worst AWD systems on the market even though its RWD based. Watch videos, watch tests. It's awful. Acura's AWD is far superior and much more intelligent and dynamic. That's not opinion, that's fact.
ZS 5885 hahaha you kids these days watch too much videos and think they know it all. Go drive a rwd biased awd system and you’ll see how Sh awd is a trash fwd biased system that understeers with a transverse engine set up, its fwd most of the time which no driving enthusiast wants and I have driven both as well as many other cars and high end super cars. Why do you think competitors all have longitudinal rwd awd systems? Why are most premium car manufacturers going with rwd based awd? Because it’s clearly and obviously better dynamically and feels way more sportier then a fwd based awd system. No real sports sedan uses a fwd based awd system and that’s a FACT not an opinion. Better yet go watch throttle house review of the type S, it gets destroyed by the competitors with rwd based awd system in handling and acceleration and they explain it well why sh awd is trash.
@@dankchron1617 Honey I used to work at Lexus and now I work at Acura. I've driven both multiple times, but nice explanation otherwise, and don't call me a kid when you have no idea who I am.
That is a poor excuse for a back seat. The trunk space is poor at best. Maybe Acura figures the demographic for this car will look beyond that for the nimble handling
Its because the double wishbone suspension takes up alot of room for the car. Theres a reason they got rid of it before because acura focused on interior space and comfort. This is more of a driver-centric car especially looking from the drivers seat and the center control style.
The suspension, transmission, awd and braking system are the highlights. It’s not about hp and gas consumption here. You realize higher hp mean higher gas or hybrid technology.
Did you just compare an Acura to a Lexus? Forget the comparable luxuries & features between the two, think reliability which is what Lexus/Toyota was built on. Great engines that lasts over 300k miles. You just complained about this car not having wireless phone connection lmao. Other than that I do plan on getting the type S if it's less than 51k but if it has the same issues as this car then I'll pass & keep my 2020 Toyota Avalon TRD
I'm still driving my classic Acura TL 2001 over 170, 000 miles yes and her motor still roars and all bells and whistles work lol. These are dependable cars period. It's how to take care of what you have so it will take care of you in my opinion.
It’s both long and wide. It’s 4” longer and 2” wider than last year. Dimensionally it’s large. For example it’s quite a bit longer and wider than other midsize cars (say it’s cousin the Honda Accord which is smaller in every dimension except it has way more interior room and cargo space)
What is Acura's mission with this car? It's big, slow, and doesn't do anything better than average. Acura is not what it used to be in terms of luxury or driving experience. I'm convinced Acura drivers are simply shoppers that never made it into an Audi or BMW dealership because they got suckered by an Acura dealership. The Accord is the better product than the TLX now. Better tech and performance. Sad.
The good: Exterior looks and overall stance SHAWD and ELS The bad: Poor rear passenger space Too many gears Poor power:weight (heavy!) No touch screen (my 3G TL has touch screen and better rear passenger space than this TLX)

I am about to turn 16 next year and get my license, should I get this as my first car or is there something that you would recommend for me to get that would be better than the tlx
Is this remote start ?
I heard people have had problems with the transmission. But I don't know if it needs a factory reset most of the time but I've heard not so good things
If this is really true with this model, it’s definitely Honda/Acura ongoing Achilles heel or karma.
Does it have blind spot monitors on a spec or is it only on the advance trim

Great Review!!!
What year was your 535i? And if you don't mind, what was the price you got relative to MSRP? Also, does your TLX have SH AWD?
Did your great price happen because it was the last day of the month ? I'm thinking about getting one.
how much did you get off of MSRP?
Why did you switch from the BMW?
@@Flatlandcoug do you still have it?
I agree turbo gives you a lag which is why i like my 2013 tsx

Yep, top trim is quiter.
Top trim is marginally quieter. Acura should have done a little more to deaden road noise
@@Bail_Money Interesting. Seems like that’s commonplace. More engaging driving-performance-handling wise whereas Lexus will be more quiet and comfortable.
I also have a accord sport 2.0 Turbo and my biggest issue with the tlx is a lack of a spare tire considering that I have one in my accord.
Would you consider the TLX better than your previous Lexus IS ?
The flickering display is defective - take it to the shop to have that fixed. My wife's 2021 RDX has zero flicker.
its not defective. its the camera recording the display. you cant see the flickering in person.
The size in the back is like an ilx. I wouldn't like it either. I hate that it's still wired for android auto but I had an ilx that connected everything wireless and the music lagged so maybe that's why it's not wireless.

It doesn't require premium, you can run it on 87 no problem. 91 is only "recommended." This actually applies for the entire Acura lineup, except the NSX. You may have a very slight performance decrease by putting in 87, but it'll be unnoticeable for 99% of people.

Awesome! Glad I watch your review first. Driving a Honda Insight, road noise was the main complaint. Specially taking long trips.
When are you doing a 2022 MDX?

Great review buddy, very nice interior But the Honda accord touring is 10 g's less.
How does the ride comfort of the accord touring compare to the tlx?
But, the TLX is a far nicer car than the accord , both interior and exterior both.
Road noise is from the 19 low profile tires no Aspec than the tires are 18s much better road noise
You'd be better off buying the new 2021 Mazda 6 turbo or Mazda 3 hatchback turbo. Cant go wrong with Mazda esp the interiors and they're cheaper.
Road noise is generally a tire issue
That contributes, but certainly not the only thing. Regardless..these are the tires the car comes with and all new vehicles I receive are tested with stock tires and the exact same parameters
Great honest review!! Acura is a "premium" brand... for that money honestly I'd be looking at a BMW 330i 🤷🏾♂️
Thank you!

I have wireless apple car play pretty cool honestly
Got the TLX with the Tech package (front wheel drive). The road noise is not acceptable for a luxury brand like Acura, it really bugs me. My ELS sound system in a step below the A Spec and it sounds so-so. The car is cramped inside, low roof, tight rear legroom. The size of this car comes from the long hood lines - which makes it look good. Midrange torque is a blast, to be honest - quick enough for me. Should have been programed (ECU) for 300hp.
Road noise is crazy!! I just bought this car a few days ago and thought my windows were down

I don’t understand why the hood is so damn long. If the hood was shorter and if the car maybe was not quite as wide it would cut down the weight and make that turbo 4 cylinder be more peppy than it is now. Acura is close. I just think it’s too big and too heavy
Just with the gauge cluster was like the lower trims. The ones in the Aspec/Type S are so outdated and lowkey ugly
Looks like the reability is little scary
The wireless charging with a iPhone 12 does not work! Acura has no plans to fix it! My wife has a Hyundai it works perfect!

@@porfiriato84 some people just don't want turbos, there is higher possibility of fuel being burnt and NA's tend to be more reliable. Also if your turbo fails for whatever reason, your engine will fail pretty soon.
These are some of the reasons I can think of, also higher chance of blowby, leakage of combustion gases between a piston and the cylinder wall into the crankcase in an automobile.
However, turbos are still cool, who doesn't like that spool and 'tshhhh' sound :D
@@originalmusic401 interesting. I just figured with today's technology and factory turbo's, they would last a long time with minimal maintenance. I've never owned a turbo powered car and I would like my next one to be just that 👀
I have a 2017 gs350 awd f sport and regarding your statement of choosing an Lexus IS or Acura’s tlx, It’s Lexus hands down.
KIA Stinger and K5 GT are both better options than this. Of course the IS350 is too. Really, anything other than Honda is what's hot now.
That is a poor excuse for a back seat. The trunk space is poor at best. Maybe Acura figures the demographic for this car will look beyond that for the nimble handling
You’d expect Honda being experts at interior space 😂
Its because the double wishbone suspension takes up alot of room for the car. Theres a reason they got rid of it before because acura focused on interior space and comfort. This is more of a driver-centric car especially looking from the drivers seat and the center control style.
The bad for me, NO 6MT
