now the real secret sauce , time to bring out an old CRT monitor and run native 640x480
lol
3D mark doesn't work like that, the resolution settings are fixed on 3D Mark Extreme & PortRoyal, it's so you don't get people using a 720p/900p monitor getting way higher frames than those with a 1440p/4K monitor

but.. Heat lowers resistance.
Edit nvm below
@@DarkLinkAD i think you mean heat increases resistance.... More resistance means more heat. Heat does not a super conductor make.

Jay: "What rock you been livin' under!?"
Me: "...The rock where I didn't even know competitive overclocking was even a *thing* until I started actively watching your channel a couple weeks ago...."

Honestly, same. Even though for me it's been more like a month or two.
@@Carterthielftw_ hah nice directions buddy :)
ahhhh that's why. Between jay and gamer's nexus (highly recommended if you haven't seen them yet) you'll know who kingpin is very soon. Gamer's nexus actually took a tour of his lab. It's pretty crazy.
I don't know how Jay seems to be the most... how to say it "goofy" in term of technical knowledge but in an actual OC battle he is the one to get ahead by a lot actually.
jay will make it happen, steve and AHOC will tell you why it's happening, yet somehow not reach quite the same level

I have really loved these videos. I'd love to see some more "official" competitions between the different tech channels...I really enjoy the banter and the passion.
I have an idea for a good PC build competition, I'd like to see LMG, Ed from TechSource, obviously Jay, Kyle, and Paul. I just need to be able to get in contact with them and show them my idea. I really don't want to give it away on social media, but if I don't give it away they may never see it. Suggestions?

Jay maybe you can tell us what you did behind the scenes after the RIP series is done
he added red led's to make them go faster
@@MajorSkrewup 40k fan hu?
But he said what he's done! He said something like "we are losing power throughout the power delivery components", he also said "heat causes power loss", so. Clearly, he cooled the power stages and controllers with tiny heat sinks and maybe probably a fan.
He fixed the voltage instability with IFIXEHHHHTT *KABOOM*
He got his card temp down to 20c whereas GN only got his down to 24c so they're both doing some pretty heavy duty cooling. But I bet if he got a massive UPS and possibly a line conditioner and put the whole thing inside a fridge or freezer he could stretch that score a little higher.
Nice setup!
You might improve things further by moving to a double cauldron. The inner cannister would be suspended, contain water/ethylene glycol mix and the pump would draw from this reservoir. This would be surrounded by a larger container of ice water with a mix of salt or sugar. This mixture could depress the freezing point of the outer water cauldron down to -20 C (-4 F) depending upon the ratio of water to salt (or sugar). This is much lower than straight ice water. Having a thin metal wall container (preferably copper, not stainless steel) would aid in the heat transfer from the inner chamber to the outer. Make sure to place the intake of the pump at the bottom of the reservoir where it’s coldest and the return path at the top. You could draw directly from a salt/sugar water solution, but salt or sugar are not known to be particularly kind to metallic materials under heat and physical duress. Pump and water block longevity may be an issue.
Finally, the air conditioning removing the humidity from the air will help in preventing heat gain by the coolant through the condensation of water on the supply lines, however you are likely injecting more heat energy by the passage of air across the coolant supply lines. You would probably be best off applying an insulation layer around the supply lines and then using the dehumidified cooled air across the boards to prevent water buildup. This would minimize the heat gained by the coolant prior to injection into the block.
Love the iFixit explosion at the end of an unusually quiet ad
Impromptu ad. Very Jay-like, loved it
You guys have definitely made this super popular. Even I decided to play around with my laptop and now have the top score in Night Raid for my specific CPU/GPU combo, fourth place for Sky Diver (for now), and second place in Time Spy. I don't think I'm ever going to be able to beat the guy in first in Time Spy.

8:50 Windows 95 kids will still remember having to manually push the button after windows unloaded.
fun fact: it was actually still running DOS at the shut down screen. It's incredible how little you guys do to control atmosphereic moisture. Kudos to finally figuring out dehumidifying. Lower your dew points as much as possible, stack the place with large bundles of mositure absorbing materials, force air through them, run a few dehumidifers around the work area while you are at. Throw as much dry air from an AC on the components as much as possible. Keep the air dry as you can. And OC on days where the dew points are lowest. TRACK THE DEW POINTS. The higher the dew points, the more moisture in the air.
Steve, if you see this, you're in NC, you should know know better by now as well!

Can I get a like for Phil being a legend and half the reason I watch this channel?????
Another thought I had was similar to those suggesting salted ice water in the ice chest to further lower the temps. If you fill your loop with a mix of distilled water and Water Wetter (WW), a Propylene Glycol-based (PG) antifreeze, or pure Ethanol then you could run the loop at sub-zero without going DICE/LN2. The Ethanol can go quite low in temperature (-114.6C) before freezing and has decent, albeit worse than water, heat transfer properties.
THANK YOU!!! X299 owner here!!! 16X lanes is needed per card 8x is dead and people wonder WHY THEIR SLI SUCKED. Sli runs great for me and I get full bandwidth. PCIe4 isn’t needed.
When are one of your daughters gonna build a new pc, also could a 3080 go with the new 6 core 12 thread 5600x?
Mrjackyboi sus
Paul ran a 3080 with a 3600X to good results. Since the 5600X is supposed to be a massive improvement over it's predecessor, it stands to reason that it should perform with the 3080 better.
How to keep your pc cool: Dump it in liquid nitrogen
Your wires become like a strong stick
@SmallAsianGuy that would make ice... with liquid nitrogen.
@SmallAsianGuy if you put water into ln2 it just makes ice and a lot of nitrogen gas. They don't mix because of how different their freezing points are. While one instantly freezes the other one instantly vaporizes, at the exact same temperature
I think maybe other components will fail as they are not programmed to work on those temps
@@ayanmaity2605 if you keep it over -10c anything outside of the ssd will work better. Humidity is the enemy, not really temperature

Jay you can reach in SLi the same boost frequency as a single card. All you need to do is a shuntmod and a custom boostcurves for both cards. Worked for me on 780 Sli, Titan Z and Titan X Pascal Sli. As long as the PL/TL isn't reached and the curves are mached the cards will hit the maximum allowed voltage on the boostmap and stay there. (for example 1.092V on pascal)
