    I'm not an expert in 3D Mark, but my gut feeling is that it's not cache bottlenecked and your testing seems to confirm that. Along with the fact at the end of the video with your final scores there is someone with a 5950x above you on the leaderboard that seems to agree that frequency is more important than cache but I do wonder what that guy was doing to his 5950. Also I miss the RIP series, that was a lot of fun and it was kind of this great community bonding moment in the Tech youtube space, I am very nostalgic for it, hopefully one day it will make sense to do it again.

    • @Tc4ify
      @Tc4ify 2 года назад +5

      That guy probably had that 5950 at least under phase change cooling if not straight up LN2. There's a reason it's the only one there - under similar conditions it's just way slower than 12th gen...

      He ran the IFCLK at only 1800. Most people get to 1900 without problems. A fast Samsung B-die kit with borderline unsafe voltage will do 3800CL14 which should be enough to get it ahead. But then again, disabling the e-cores and running the ring bus at 5GHz will also help out the KS so it's up in the air...

    My initial thought was that the AMD setup was probably gimped by running in single channel RAM mode due to it being a DARK mobo, but reading their manual I see it should switch to dual channel if two sticks are detected. I reckon the run is synthetic enough that the higher core freq of the 12900KS is just too much to compete with for the 5800X3D, combined with that high speed DDR5 RAM.. and then taking price into account (as if you would for this kind of setup of course), that's still pretty awesome, here's to hoping Intel starts putting more cache in their cpus too, nice video!

    • @andersjjensen
      @andersjjensen 2 года назад +4

      He only ran the IFCLK at 1800. It can do 1900 with a bit of voltage. Breaking out Ryzen DRAM Calculator and being willing to run the DDR4 at near-fry voltage should take the 5800X3D above the 12900KS... at least until DDR5 8000CL36 kits hit the streets...

    Some CPU tuning would probably help quite a bit. Try disabling ecores, tuning memory, overclocking including uncore, etc.

    If you do indeed do a 3 follow-up, I'd like to see some tuning on the CPU side to see what you can eek out of the system on a whole, though that may be a bit tough on the 5800X3D with it's multiplier locked, but base clock overclocking is possible. Of course you risk system stability at this point
