Good Job Paul! You basically made it to the top of non exotic cooling! I only use water myself, the LN2 scores are near impossible to beat without LN2 and super high end hardware and mods or such. I saw you getting closer and closer to my score and now we are neighbors :)
This is what PC hardware is all about! No matter what tier of hardware you have, it is sooo awesome to learn proper OCing techniques to get the absolute most performance possible. If youre not OCing your hardware you're not a true enthusiast. I REALLY want a Part 3 where you OC the 12900KS to break that 31k barrier. Congrats, on the Top 20!!!
EVGA has never been anything but great to me too, had a DoA card once and got my RMA the day after without hassle and even threw some goodies in the box for the inconvenience.
I loved the RIP series. You may not have had the most "exotic" cooling techniques, but you definitely had the most creative. You should revamp it as RIP LN2, no exotic cooling, just pure creativity.
I vote " PUSH IT " through the ceiling and go for the top spots Paul. That was cool to watch and hear how you bumped it a little here and there to getting to top 20. I always love seeing the rigs you and Jay create to cool without going to LN2. Great stuff and I can't wait to see what is next.
I'm not an expert in 3D Mark, but my gut feeling is that it's not cache bottlenecked and your testing seems to confirm that. Along with the fact at the end of the video with your final scores there is someone with a 5950x above you on the leaderboard that seems to agree that frequency is more important than cache but I do wonder what that guy was doing to his 5950. Also I miss the RIP series, that was a lot of fun and it was kind of this great community bonding moment in the Tech youtube space, I am very nostalgic for it, hopefully one day it will make sense to do it again.
That guy probably had that 5950 at least under phase change cooling if not straight up LN2. There's a reason it's the only one there - under similar conditions it's just way slower than 12th gen...

I guess we need a taller form factor to properly SLI these chonker 3090 Ti's. Pretty soon the top tier cards are gonna' take up the entire bottom half of and ATX board on their own.
I love EVGA, I waited on the waiting list for both my 30 series cards at MSRP!! and have used EVGA since the days of the AGP slot. I even got a couple of EVGA power supplies in the past. I have never tried the EVGA motherboard. I might do that next time.

You should be able to hit 1900MHz IFCLK on the 5800X3D pretty easy. With enough voltage 1950MHz should also be possible if the silicon lotto gods are just a little bit with you.

They seem like a great company I remember the hype around the X570 Dark when it was announced like AMD made it EVGA noticed them lol, and they're only ones you could get a msrp Nvidia card from besides the founders cards through best buy I think.

I've seriously been considering learning how to OC with LN2 but honestly my main issue is that I have no idea where to actually buy LN2 from! lol...I have a large vent hood over the work bench in my garage where I could setup some test benches and It looks really fun but very costly! I think I can use Dry Ice with an LN2 pots so I may give that a try first...

great stuff as always, Paul. Maybe you can give us a build guide based on energy budget sometime - for example, what can you building using a 450 W PSU, 650 W, etc. At some point, I feel like power consumption is going to become at least as important as FPS and total build cost!
This made me want to tinker with my RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Hybrid. Stock test doing port royal stock was 11387 just adding +50 core boosted my store to 13978. Was able to add +60 to the core and 650 to the memory and ended with a 14145. Nearly 24% increase across the board not too shabby been playing games with that OC haven't had any crashes so it seems stable so far.
He ran the IFCLK at only 1800. Most people get to 1900 without problems. A fast Samsung B-die kit with borderline unsafe voltage will do 3800CL14 which should be enough to get it ahead. But then again, disabling the e-cores and running the ring bus at 5GHz will also help out the KS so it's up in the air...
Perhaps a custom water cooling loop with CPU and GPU blocks and an oversized radiator placed at the cold blast of the AC unit? That would still be in the ballpark of what a "normal" user could use frequently :)
My initial thought was that the AMD setup was probably gimped by running in single channel RAM mode due to it being a DARK mobo, but reading their manual I see it should switch to dual channel if two sticks are detected. I reckon the run is synthetic enough that the higher core freq of the 12900KS is just too much to compete with for the 5800X3D, combined with that high speed DDR5 RAM.. and then taking price into account (as if you would for this kind of setup of course), that's still pretty awesome, here's to hoping Intel starts putting more cache in their cpus too, nice video!
He only ran the IFCLK at 1800. It can do 1900 with a bit of voltage. Breaking out Ryzen DRAM Calculator and being willing to run the DDR4 at near-fry voltage should take the 5800X3D above the 12900KS... at least until DDR5 8000CL36 kits hit the streets...
Can't imagine wielding this amount of raw power! Props for currently having the most powerful enthusiast hardware on the market and presenting it in such a professional way. Too bad 4 way SLI isn't a thing anymore lol
I will be very interested to see the mid and high end cpus that come out on the AM5 platforms soon run in these tests. I am planning to upgrade my system to AM5 and ddr5 after the initial drop and I'd like to see their performance broken down in a test like this.
You can always do better but I totally understand that sometimes it has to stop. If you had my time you would go on and on and on but you have a family, a RUclips channel and a social life so this is already a really good accomplishment and want to congratulate you with this great score! If you do indeed do a 3 follow-up, I'd like to see some tuning on the CPU side to see what you can eek out of the system on a whole, though that may be a bit tough on the 5800X3D with it's multiplier locked, but base clock overclocking is possible. Of course you risk system stability at this point
3Dmark should auto save all scores to a folder in your documents folder. (saved me many times when I forgot to save a score)

There is a taller form factor! Its XL ATX (look up evga x58 4 way sli) and HPTX (evga classified sr2)

Any industrial gasses dealer (think welding) will have it. Bit pricey though....

Some CPU tuning would probably help quite a bit. Try disabling ecores, tuning memory, overclocking including uncore, etc.
