I am diabetic and my cats saved my life more than once. They aggressively woke me up in the middle of the night when my blood sugar dropped to 30 (near death low) while I was sleeping. When I am awake and the sugar is low but I don't realize it, they will pester me non stop. They are good kitties. =^..^=

Dogs start to poke lady to tell her that her blood sugar is too low, but honestly that looks like the best way to annoy the hell out of someone for treats.
My dog gets on his hind legs and pushes off of my leg with his two front legs, to get my attention for treats. It was cute at first, but does get annoying when he constantly does it lmao

@@galaxiistar1055 it’s funny isn’t it, how some animals have to be taught tricks but other animals just go ‘right so this is going to be the trick that I do’.
My old dog has always tapped us with her paw and she doesn’t like doing too many other tricks now that she’s old, it’s mainly just that one, but we’ve tried teaching that trick to our younger 2 dogs and, although they are brilliant in many other things, they have never caught onto that one. It’s just our old dog’s thing, and it can be annoying as heck but it’s kinda sad to think that it will die with her.
They only get the treats if the blood sugar is actually low when they alert (she tests her blood sugar right away). One dog is hers (the golden color one) and she is training that black dog for a client.
They only get rewarded when they are right to keep this from happening...
But many dogs don't even need treats... They do it just to help their human, but treats are a nice "I appreciate that".

Dogs have such a great sense of smell. A few years ago, I watched a RUclips video about how dogs were being trained to smell for cancer. While watching it, I had a flashback to my USN son visiting us. Our Dalmatian just kept repeatedly, patting on this one section of his back. A few months after that, his fiancé and he were doing yard work, at his newly purchased house. She noticed a very tiny mole on his back, had turned completely black. She told him, he had it biopsied - - melanoma skin cancer. The surgical removal took several hours and left a scar the size of a dessert plate. They had to get all the places, where it had branched out to. He’s fine now, thankfully.

My friend's son is 12 and a Type 1 diabetic. Turns out the family cat can smell when the boy's blood sugar drops too low. It has happened at night. If the cat cannot wake the boy, it will run down the hall wake my friend.

The dogs are smelling isoprene in the person with low blood sugar. Isoprene production almost doubles during low blood sugar, and is partly expelled through our breath.
They are not smelling acetone, as many are mentioning here. Acetone production doesn’t increase during low blood sugar. That only happens during periods of fasting or during a lack of circulating insulin, like with untreated or poorly treated type 1 diabetes, and more rarely in advanced and poorly treated type 2 diabetes.
When type 1 diabetes is poorly treated, the acetone smell can get strong enough for humans to smell. Your breath will stink. It can be either straight up acetone, licorice or fermented fruits (like old apples), depending of the severity of your ketoacidosis.

the cat face was pretty much me when my mom wakes me up to go to school then i fell asleep again and i hear her footsteps and inmediatly open my eyes to look like i was awake
