Man, I will never get over how beautiful this opening is. The score, cinematography, and acting... this opening introduces Batman in this new universe so well.
I personally won't defend all of it as I'm the type of guy who's willing to point out something stupid or objectively bad in a film (in the case of _BvS,_ the casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex, the fact that it feels like 3 or 5 films squashed together, the underdeveloped philosophical conflict, and while I get why they did the Doomsday/Death of Superman thing at the end, it was WAY too early to do that). But the performances, the visuals, the action, the score, the cinematography, and the ideas and themes being explored were enough to keep me from saying it was a terrible movie. So, I'm willing to give it a 6/10 (and that's for the Ultimate Edition; whereas theatrical cut would be a 4.5 or 5).

Like poetry in motion. Such an underrated and misunderstood movie. BvS stood the test of time like no other. The subjects touched on are so relevant to the world today it's almost as if Zack had a crystal ball. It's a shame we will never see a superhero movie like this again.

There is an Imax in NYC in Manhattan, that has Imax screen 8 stories tall!! The knight mare sequence, was filmed 70 mm IMAX !! That shit was mind blowing!! I’ll never understand that not enough audiences connected to that movie, worldwide or made 850 million dollars!! it was Zach Snyder second movie, and those have made more money than the movies that came before the avengers!! I will never not love the shot at 2:26. You can tell Snyder understands photography and image composition by where he places the lines in the image. Notice that the gun is not at the center of the frame but at the beginning of the 4th quarter of the frame, imitating the Golden Ratio. Also notice how the pearl necklace draws two lines that lead to the gun, to demonstrate that it's the focus of the shot. And of course, the blurry criminal and background with the gun in focus. Very well composed image. By itself it can be sold at an art gallery.
I am 60 at time of this comment. I grew up on Batman in the 1960's. This is my favorite Batman movie and my favorite Superman movie. And my favorite Wonder Woman movie. Real movie making. My dad was film department director at klz/kmgh TV in Denver. I grew up on film. I went to college: acting, stagecraft, Martial arts, Creative writing, music. Became a tree trimmer instead of going to hollyweird.
Most people don’t realize that at 3:20 one of the pearls land right next young Bruce’s hand when he falls…he might’ve been running with one of the pearls. Or not…
It's establishing Bruce as an unreliable narrator, and of course the bats didn't really pick him up either. This one little intro is a complete symbolic hero's journey.
To all the people that complained how bad this movie is while it was Marvel’s uprising, we are now witnessing Marvel’s downfall, because of identity politics and tremendous downgrade in the quality of the movies they make. Literally the only thing not comic accurate is that Batman Kills people, but that was the whole point and twist to this story. Everyone always refers to the "Under the Red Hood" story where Batman says if he kills someone he'll never be able to stop, but not only does this story answer what would happen if Batman actually killed but he was also completely wrong about not being able to come back from killing as he no longer kills people in ZSJL, he does kill Parademon's but they are essentially robots that cannot be turned back to what they were they are permanently drones for Darkseid.
Identical to the book my arse lol they simply referenced a couple of comic panels and dialogue here and there from the Dark Knight Returns, but other than that it has nothing to do with the books; Batman and Superman's reason to fight each other is different, the entire plot is different, the villains are different, Batman kills, the movie doesn't even know whether it wants to adapt DKR or The Death of Superman.

They realized it too late, it was necessary to bring the film a billion back in 2016 and turn up its nose, and then no one restarted anything.
