He just saw a girl losing her mother because a bunch of aliens are fighting over the city. Losing parents is the same stuff which broke Bruce when he was a child, so in a way he could feel the pain of the girl and that probably what angered him the most and wanted retribution on Superman for the death and destruction he was witnessing in front of his eyes.

But it just shows how morality isn’t an absolute; or never was. What we define as morals, between “right” or “wrong,” is what the masses or the handful powerful individuals dictate as such.

@@Potaytoyes Sure, this scene for me anyway carries no emotional weight. We’re made to believe we care about this man in the building. But there is no emotional buildup between Bruce or him at all. The collapsing building was a throw back to the WTC which IMO was in poor poor taste.. but really tugs at those yanky heart strings. And lastly how many damn times has someone recited religious dialogue before their untimely end in films. This film was received poorly and ultimately ended up being a build up to an overall disaster of a film in TJL. If you like this scene that’s okay 👌 I don’t mind but I’m allowed to state my opinion here.

People can say what they want about BVS and everyone is entitled to their opinion but this opening scene showing you the events of black zero from Bruce Wayne's point of view has got to be the best prologue i have ever seen in a DC movie in a very long time, what i loved about this is that it shows that Bruce Wayne is still a heroic and fearless guy even out of the batsuit . The most badass moment for me was when he's running towards the debree of dust everywhere trying to save his building. This is the Bruce Wayne i know and love, a man who's not afraid of anything and willing to do whatever it takes to save and protect.

It's not just the Martha scene, it's also that the fight really wasn't THAT interesting. Also, the Martha scene could have been executed better. They were trying to say "superman has feelings too, juts like a human" but it ended up looking stupid like Batman stopped trying to kill superman just because their mothers had the same name.

The fact that a downtown heavily populated city twice the size of New York City was decimated by a gravity weapon that caught the US military with their pants down so badly they couldn't even land a single missile on the ship, infact the military sending in those jets only made the casualties even worse since each plane cashed leveled a whole block, and we know all to well that a single plane can take down a building if it hits it at the right angles. And that all seems to have lasted about 30 minutes, and thats before we even get into the whole God vs God battle where the fight itself caused even more collateral damage and most likely killed another few thousand people.

This scene shows the audience what kind of Batman Affleck was going to be in this universe. This is a very "reactionary" Bat, who places emotion over deliberation and due process. He sees something, he reacts to it without any delay. Planning and methodical detective work comes 2nd. That's why rage drives him throughout the movie even to the extent of wanting to murder Supes and only a emotional trigger, ie Martha's name, could make him come back to his senses. I think Zack should have been giving a chance to bring this Bat to proper conclusion. So much potential, it is sad.

The documentary "102 Minutes That Changed America" gave me the same feeling. It's a remastered compilation of the 9/11 Attacks as filmed by the people of New York. It also features phone calls from first responders.
One of the best decisions Snyder made in BvS was creating parallels to that horrible day when showing the human perspective to the Black Zero Event.

I find quite ironic and poetic how Bruce blames Superman for the destruction in Metropolis, but later Bruce himself finds out what Superman had to face, and how powerless he was to prevent the destruction caused in Gotham's port when against a being that it's mere existence can cause destruction. And Superman in two different moments, was willing to give up his life to prevent further destruction.

The incredible yet scary thing about this scene is that it’s a sad but realistic take on a situation like this. Most superhero movies have scenes of catastrophic collateral damage during big battles, but the perspective of the chaotic confusion, horror and melancholy from the civilians, onlookers and people on the ground trying to help survivors is usually not really seen and explored. And let’s be honest us puny mortal humans we would either be terrified or angry if a fight between two or more superhumans occurred, which lead to this. And to be fair, Clark probably didn’t mean or want to cause this situation and casualties along the way… as Zod is mainly responsible for that, but Clark is still partially responsible for the collateral damage, no matter if intentional or more likely fir him, accidental.. So as somber as this scene is, it’s a scarily realistic portrayal of if something like this happened in real life. But then again tragically for the Americans something relatively similar happened in 2001 but because of something other than super powered aliens. But aftermath and the perspective of the people are very much the same… justified paranoia, fear and anger… which is seen in Batfleck’s Bruce after witnessing his employee becoming crippled, his employee/ friend Jack being killed and a young girl suffering the tragically similar fate to Bruce, of becoming an orphan. Yes it’s gritty, but it’s sadly very realistic.
