Hwyl... Found it 2 years ago and I was enchanted by its smokiness and the feeling of being surrounded by old Hiba cypress trees. In Welsh, Hwyl (pronounced hwill) means “stoic” or “unemotional”. This scent isn’t about frenetic motion or strong feelings - Perfumer Barnabé Fillion explains, “It’s meant to recapture the stillness and feeling when you are alone in nature, considering it as a refuge.” The scent is completely floral-free. Vetiver gives it a smoky airiness, cypress adds woodiness, frankincense contributes earthiness, and sandalwood imparts smoothness and sensuality. Thank you for reviewing it - I always love to hear your thoughts 🖤
this is an old comment but I thought I needed to let you know that Hwyl is in fact pronounced Hoil (like boil), the pronunciations online that say "hwill" are very wrong
I love basically everything from Aesop. I've been layering Hwyl with Tacit for the past few months and feel like they work so well together. Citrus, woodsy and herbal all at once.
Not many RUclipsrs review on this. But Aesop's line of perfume is so unique and exquisite smelling. I've been trying to find more affordable replacements, but sadly I can't. They're so beautiful I'm willing to shell out more money to get them.
Hi Sebastian, Barnabe Fillon is the nose for Marrakech Intense, Hwyl and Rozu. Tacit was created by Celine Barel, who also did Squid by Zoologist. Apparently Barnabe Fillon is also the nose behind Aesop's range of room sprays and candles
My mom only bought Rōzu because she loves Charlotte Perriand, to whom perfume is dedicated. Luckily she doesn't like it and she gave to me...I love it. I also like Hwyl because hinoki is absolutely my cup of tea.
Tried on the Rozu in store recently and it's just as you said, the floral notes surprised me after 30 minutes of wearing. Started getting compliments so I have to go back for it now.
I especially love their body care. The skincare that I’ve tried is also good. But, you can’t be sensitive to essential oils. I have sensitive skin, but I’ve never had a negative reaction to their products. Unfortunately, I haven’t smelled their perfumes, as far as I can remember.
Love hwyl, it’s like cdg’s hinoki but with better longevity and projection (although if I’m honest I prefer CdG but it’s so short-lived). I noticed A Nose Knows reviewed this one, was hoping you’d get around to it!
The Marrakech Intense Parfum is the best and it comes in a 10ml roll on and is the most expensive. It’s pure Parfum, not even EDP. To give you an idea, the Marrakech Intense EDT is SGD 115 for 50ml, the roll on is SGD 120 for 10ml. Aesop is a brilliant brand and their products are very good - the mouthwash, the bamboo scrub, etc.
Rozu is my signature scent but all the others scents are a better bang for your buck. In my opinion Also I recommend anyone to try the daily facial skin regimen they offer.
My brother, who lives in Australia, gave me Tacit as a present and i absolute love it. I am a citrus, female fragrance lover but this however had me obsessed. Would you be able to recommend ones that might be in the same “family” as Tacit that I might love as well? Thank you!
Your description of Rōzu reminds me of Kalan by Parfums de Marley if it had rose in it. Even down to a cumin accord that's not listed. Thanks for your reviews!
I'm gonna check out their fragrances, now I'm curious. I'm personally not a huge fan of this brand, I think that for the price, the cosmetics could have been at least made with organic oils ( I owned an organic grocery in France, I know how much these stuffs cost). But if you say these are good, I may give it a chance. I would definitely check Rōzu first.
Thank you so much for this video! I have been wanting to check out Aesop's fragrances and I had tried Rozu and kinda like it. I may just take the plunge and get it after all! 😍Before watching your video, I had thought Rozu resembled Le Labo's Rose 31 too! 😉
Can anybody give me an idea how long Aesop fragrances last? I’ve had experiences where some EDP literally last 40-45 mins before you can’t smell it anymore.
Hwyl kinda reminds m3 (just slightly) of Amou's Memoir. Especially throughout the end of hearts towards the dry down. Other times it stands on its own. Definitely not a resemblance. It's less dark n 'haunting' than Memoir i feel. Fresher. Less dense or what u sophisticated noses often refer to as resinous?
Hwyl has almost the exact same main accord/heart notes as CdG Hinoki but the opening and base are a bit different. The opening is spice instead of camphor and the base smells more obviously like ISO E Super to me which might contribute to longevity. I prefer Hinoki personally.
These are not screamers as I mentioned but to be conservative Tacit would work best. But personally all should if you wear not too many sprays. Must test them all out first though! :)
Just a heads up of you're getting into skincare avoid denatured alcohols and fragrance in skincare products, especially essential oils. Some good channels for skincare I'd recommend are Dr. Dray, Hyram, and Liya Yoo.
@@ThePerfumeGuy @robered and me picked some really good ones in greece. Black Sugar Oriental Lily Violet, L'eau de Parfum 20 and Tonka Brown: Magic Happens are really really good

OOh great thank you for telling me the meaning of Hwyl! :)
Ya, thanks for sharing this anecdote
Perfectly described
Same! I bought this two years ago when it first launched and I am finally finishing the bottle this winter.
this is an old comment but I thought I needed to let you know that Hwyl is in fact pronounced Hoil (like boil), the pronunciations online that say "hwill" are very wrong

Hi mate! I used to work for Aesop and just to let you know its pronounced 'ee-sop' and the Hwyl perfume is pronounced 'who-wil'
great review!
Why he didn’t reply to this
Ae in Latin is pronounced “E” no Ee
By the way, Hwyl is pronounced Hoil (like boil), not "who-will", its a Welsh word
Marrakesh Intense is my “signature scent.” Love it in the spring, summer, and fall. I wear Hwyl in the winter.
Thanks for sharing!
Is it long lasting?

Not many people know about this house I love them
I love them they smell great, rozu most definitely
I think it's actually good they're not wrapped in plastic. Wish more houses would do that. Better for the environment. Maybe paper wrap them though?
I’m quite worried when it comes to fragrance with cumin because I do NOT want to smell like a walking curry pot. But this Rozū is superb!
I enjoy aesop fragrances. They are truly niche quality and it takes them years to develop another one.
I wear Hwyl everyday. Best $140 I ever spent.
Awesome!!
Yes Hwyl is definitely my favorite out of the four.

So timely. Never hear about these. Just ordered Tacit yesterday. I bought it blind
Tacit is my go-to smell in raining days. Hope you like it too.
Good buy anything except Rozu

Aesop has a good smelling shaving oil and after shave too. After using it and Rozu, I feel fresh out of the barber
Because we are hip and stylish people, we use their hand soaps. Thanks for giving us your view about the perfumes.
I have three of them except Rozu, but I’m really curious about Rozu. And Hwyl is always my rainy day signature scent.
I’ll save you some money don’t do it I have a bottle and I wish I had any other scent. Not worth the price and the others smell better IMO

I have used Aesop products for years, especially shampoo and conditioners, and I love the brand. I am so looking forward to try this new fragrances!
As an Australian, I approve this message
Ha, awesome!! :)
I always love being turned onto something new , appreciate being able to learn more about them from you 🍀
More to come!
huge fan of Hwyl. loved it immediate after first try
Great to hear!
I definitely want to try all of them, especially the third one that you mentioned.
I love everything from the Aesop and HWYL it’s been my favorite since 😍
Thank you for sharing ❤
I only use aseop skincare line. I have 30 products of theirs and been refilling for years. The Sydney stores are also lovely and high end.
It's a good brand.
This house is Amazing! I use their beautiful skincare and recently got into their fragrances 😉🌈🌺
I’ve heard of this brand before and haven’t tried any of their fragrances.
Love to get acquainted with.
Agreed! Class goes with the subtleties!
Omg thank you been waiting for someone to smell these next to each other
Thank you! :)
Thank you for the review! Love them all but Hwyl is indeed my favorite 🤍
Thanks for the video! Aesop is my favorite brand! I ADORE Marrakech Intense
Barnabe Fillion = perfumer
No problem. BTW you forgot to claim your prize!
In the Bortnikoff Video! Please go check it out so you can claim it. :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy I'll do that now, thanks!
YES!!! Finally Sebastian... Thank you for reviewing these amazing scents!
HWYL IS I LOVE IT
LIKE HOLIDAY IN JAPAN 🥳
Been waiting for an Aesop video. Thank you! Hwyl is my signature and just recently sampled Rozu
I think Tacit has a similarity to D&G Light Blue in the woodsy/floral combination.
My brother, who lives in Australia, gave me Tacit as a present and i absolute love it. I am a citrus, female fragrance lover but this however had me obsessed. Would you be able to recommend ones that might be in the same “family” as Tacit that I might love as well? Thank you!

I love Hwyl!
I knew there were so many fans of Hwyl! :)
I've been look for a good review of these! Thank you so much! Hwyl sounds like my type of scent.
I emailed them asking if they had any samples and I got some for free. I love Rozu. I wonder if it would get me any compliments?
Man been waiting for someone to put out a review on these wanted to look in the brand tk u have a great day.
LOVELY review Sebastian, as usual. I sampled them in the local Aesop store in Palo Alto, and enjoyed HWYL.
Very nice!
i've wanted to get hwyl, but wasn't sure. great review! helped me out
Great 📹 and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try these fragrances and have a blessed 🌙
Aesop is Dacre montgomery from stranger things signature scents. That’s where I heard about this brand

They are quite moderate in performance. Not beast.
Love Hwyl

Really interesting, never heard of them
Love Tacit🤩

Would love to know your opinion about Armani Prive Rose De Arabie.
Could you please do a review on their new fragrance Eidesis?! 💫
Could you review their new fragrances?
Hopefully soon yes!! 😀
Can you try this Korean brand called NonFiction?
Not sure if this has any relevance, but the word 'Hwyl' is a welsh word meaning 'fun' in English
Thank you, I hear that now that I have done the video! :)
I srsly want these fragrances 🤩💖👌🏻
Hwyl is Hanoki.
I wear it with Rozu
I believe Hwyl is also a Welsh word that means unemotional or stoic.
In your opinion which fragrance is best for work? I am a doctor and work close to people.
These are not screamers as I mentioned but to be conservative Tacit would work best. But personally all should if you wear not too many sprays. Must test them all out first though! :)
Never heard for this
I love Hwyl, but there’s a note in Tacit that induces a headache. So, I never wear it.
:(

✅Tacit Eau de Parfum
What about Korres? They have some amazing ones for a really good price
