    Advice: Don't listen to fragrance reviewers when they say "too many people wear this fragrance". Most people don't wear fragrances at all. There's a 99% chance you'll be the only guy wearing a fragrance when you enter a room. Always visit a fragrance store in person and smell a fragrance before yo buy it. Wear whatever you like!

    • @krm5693
      @krm5693 Год назад +62

      They refer to people wearing fragrances. Obviously not people who don’t wear fragrances. They’re generally correct in regards to designer frags being worn by a majority of people that wear fragrances. That’s backed by global sales or those that own the frags on sites like fragrantica. +1 on not blind buying.

    Some *comments* for you:
    1. Modern perfumery is based in French perfume culture. As a result, you pronounce « _eau de ..._ » as "oh duh...". So « _eau de toilette_ », for instance, becomes "oh duh twah-let", and « _parfum_ » is pronounced "par-faihn" (the n isn't pronounced; I recommend typing it into google translate to hear how these words are pronounced).
    2. A lot of brands have multiple concentrations of a single perfume, and all of them smell different. For instance, Versace's Eros has an eau de toilette (edt), eau de parfum (edp), and a parfum (aka extrait de parfum). Of course, all 3 are going for the same "vibe", but the parfum smells completely different to my nose and MUCH denser than the other two lower concentrations. As a result, even if you like a certain perfume at a certain concentration, *it's not safe to buy a different concentration of the same perfume* because it is really an ENITRELY DIFFERENT perfume which should be tried _before_ buying a full bottle.
    3. An edt isn't always weaker than an edp or parfum/extrait. In many cases, an edt from one brand can be stronger than pure parfum from another. For instance, Armaf's Club de Nuit Intense Man EDT, a clone of Creed's Aventus (EDP), is actually stronger than Aventus despite having a lower concentration (I don't know how, but it's true).
    4. Buying clones of perfumes can be a viable option to expand one's collection and save $$$. Many clones have a tendency to actually perform better the perfumes that they were inspired by (project farther distances, last longer on skin, linger in the air longer). The aforementioned Club de Nuit Intense Man, for instance, can be had for ~$40 on Amazon, which is much cheaper than the ~$500 MSRP for 100ml of Creed Aventus.
    5. Buy your fragrances at discounters! For example, instead of paying ~$500 MSRP for 100ml of Creed Aventus, you can pay like $330 for 100ml at fragrancebuy. Reddit is also a good resource to find good deals on perfumes and to buy small samples of brands you might not be able to find at Macy's/Nordstrom/Saks/Neiman Marcus. Check out r/fragranceswap and r/fragdecants for buying and r/fragrance for the general community.

    • @fastslowboat
      @fastslowboat Год назад +13

      The stronger performance can be attributed to the ingredients - the synthetic content in Club de Nuit is significantly higher, resulting in durability.
      Another rule of thumb:
      EdC/EdT = higher alcohol content, resulting in faster evaporation, which leads to better sillage and tends to have a shorter lasting effect.
      Extrait dP/Parfum = less evaporation due more perfume oil, thus lower sillage but better durability throughout the day.
      EdP is kind of the middle ground and for many people the sweet spot.

    Hi, I'm a fragrance nerd who just wants to help out. With your recommendation on going for the parfum over the eau de toilette because it lasts longer. Just keep in mind, the projection (the thing that makes the fragrance jump off your skin) comes from the alcohol content. So generally whilst fragrances with higher oil concentrations do last longer, they will not project like an EDT and will sit close to your skin (us frag nerds call this a 'skin scent'). Cheers

    • @martinortiz8247
      @martinortiz8247 2 месяца назад +1

      also don’t forget to add, all the concentrations just have there qualities , eau de toilettes do project more they usually won’t last long, EDP’s have a mix of parfum and edt, projects while last decently, also good to note that it just depends on the housing and brand, who’s the perfumer, how much quality the brand cares abt

As of late, I've realized that a fragrance can honestly spice up a fit similar to how jewelry and bags and stuff do. Valentino Uomo line is really good. Slightly sweet but they're all amazing even according to my friends that don't care for fragrances. Moschino Toy Boy is slightly floral but lasts for like 13 hours and is super appealing. Dolce & Gabbana's 'The One' eau de parfum is probably my favorite as of late as it makes me feel like Bruce Wayne tbh idk why but if you smell it you'll probably see what I'm saying. Freshly back from my local department store, where I was bombarded relentlessly with scented tester strips by eager sales staff, and succumbed to olfactory fatigue. I found that a lot of what’s on display right now just doesn’t dethrone the wonderful scents I already own in my wardrobe. The more on-hands exposure one has with scents via visiting department stores and purchasing decants, the less mystifying they become, and their acquisition syndrome begins to decline. My two favorite mainstream fragrance brands overall are Guerlain and Bvlgari. As for boutique, I love Amouage.
    Given your affinity for black clothing and woody scents, I would recommend Lalique Encre Noire, either the original, or Encre Noire A L’Extême.

    Le Jardin de Monsieur Li… if you know nothing of this scent or what’s in it, I can’t describe it better than being in a lackadaisical dreamland in which there blows a golden wind that smells like sunlight and clarity. I KNOW IT SOUNDS SO DUMB but that’s all I could really feel when I smelled it for so long, because I could never put my finger on the kumquat note. Such a light and bright citrus that I couldn’t name gave an air of something beautiful and unknowable, heavenly, some sparkling (but not fizzy) effervescence. It really takes me somewhere divine, fantastical and euphoric. Jean-Claude Ellena is a master at creating fantastical scenes with naturalistic elements, balancing florals and citruses on a tight rope. My personal favorite of the Jardin series.

    Some faves of mine:
    Mojave Ghost by Byredo
    Sundazed by Byredo
    Oud in Bourbon by Scents of Wood
    Studied by Liis
    Peau by Arquisite
    Sydney Rock Pool by Arquisite
    Unknown Pleasure by Kersosene (Lemon cake vibe)
    Follow by Kerosene (coffee vibe)
    One thing I do is use lighter fragrances for the day and then heavier ones at night if I'm going out, especially if I'm wearing my leather jacket. Natural leather smell + oud is an enthralling combo

    I'm 30 and just ordered my first fragrance sampler. I have no idea where to start, so getting my hands on a handful of scents should give me an idea. All I know is that I like fresh smells, like being fresh out of the shower or opening the window for the first time in the spring. When I think perfume or cologne, I just think of chemical irritants, because that's what I've been exposed to. I'm choosing to try out natural and ethical fragrances first. I wish to find something very pleasing and soothing. 😌

    You look like you're a floral, spicy frag type of guy. My signature scent's Bleu de Chanel EDT. BUT, I also rotate among Y EDP, Dior Homme Sport (2012 version), and Lacoste Blanc. A fragrance usually becomes a signature for me mainly because of nostalgia factor, or when it has accompanied me for a long time. BdC EDT seems to be the most versatile and most fragrant for my nose.
    I have added recently Acqua di Gio Profumo, Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme to my collection. I think those mentioned will be my lifetime scents, I feel like I won't expand anymore. Maybe a little bit, if they tend to have new flankers in the future.

    The Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum part is basically wrong. There are many EdT that last up to 10-12 hours and also EdP that last only a few hours. Some EdT even last as long as their EdP counterpart but just differ in scent.
    I think EdP can be an indicator of better quality ingredients, but in my opinion, this rarely translated to better quality smelling scent ( especially when there are so many synthetic notes that work well)

    nothing wrong with generic/popular fragrances and theyre popular for a reason but to anyone who wants to find their own "personal" scent thats unique to them, i suggest asking your significant other, friends, family, or yourself what you'd smell like (woody, fresh, warm spicy, gourmand, smoky, dark, etc)
    i personally like to use Fragrantica for info and comments and 'the perfume guy' to discover brands or certain scent profiles im interested in.
    It's all really personal. I like warm spicy (cinammon, peppers, amber) and my gf loves wearing incense or herbal scents. good luck find yours!
