This movie was a love letter to fans who have been playing the games for decades. I immediately got the references such as the GameCube startup jingle on Luigi’s phone.
Peach is such an amazing role model in this film.
She's so kind and supportive. She's always in Mario's corner.
This movie had everything you could have ever wanted in a Mario movie. The soundtrack was phenomenal made me shed a tear. Critics have never been so wrong.
Super Mario Bros was entertaining and loveable. Exactly how a super mario bros adaptation should be. Don’t ever listen to the Hollyweird critics. They’re apart of the agenda.
The DK rap playing on donkey kongs entrance was Peak.
Here we here we here we go
DK
DONKEY KONG
DK
DONKEY KONG
DK
DONKEY KONG!
Hopefully Illumination Studios would end up giving Grant Kirkhope proper credit for that song like they gave Heim Saban and Shuki Levy credit for "the Mario Rap".
Plot/Synopsis: 7/10
Character/Voice performances: 8/10
Music: 10/10
Animation: 9/10
Easter Eggs: 10/10
Verdict: Despite a little flaws the Super Mario Bros Movie is a very enjoyable movie, a love letter to Mario fans old and new.
Total Rank: 9/10
Big D, after having watched multiple reviews for this film I can honestly say that you are the most reasonable and level headed content creator out there. Personally as a dude in my mid 30's who has a small kiddo of my own, and who grew up with Mario games as one of the most important aspects of my life, I absolutely loved this movie. Thank you for the shit that you do brother.
Peach was fucking awesome! She was strong without being obnoxious, and she left space for Mario to grow without making him feel like shit because she was more capable. I'd marry a woman like that in a heartbeat. This film was a love letter to Super Mario fans.
I love how they mix references from both older and newer games
Appealing to all audiences.
I do like it's a simple heroes journey, something that's missing in movies.
Mike Tyson’s Punchout was one of my favorite NES Games and I was geeking out about their main hangout in Brooklyn.
The success of this movie opens the door for movies like Zelda Metroid and Star Fox etc. I know it probably won't happen but I would absolutely love a Smash Bros movie.
Zelda very much could happen!
I'm hoping for that as well..lol
If the NCU ends up being a thing, then Super Smash Bros. could be their Avengers-equivalent movie.
A very rewatchable movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it. 🙂
This movie was F’N AMAZING. I didn’t have the highest expectations, but I did figure it’d be pretty good.
Blown away, it was one of the most fun movie experiences I’ve had. Also, Jack Black as Bowser was GOLD!
Im calling it right now. Bowser Jr will be the one to free bowser from the cage in the sequel
I watched this movie today had a blast. They captured everything perfectly and I loved the reference. Like a lot of people said it was Simple yet Awesome. Peach was cool, Liked Luigi helping Mario in the end, really liked the main Toad Determination in helping Peach, Loved the way they wrote DK and how he and Mario bounced off each other. Bowser was perfect and I loved how much of a threat he was yet how much of a Simp for Peach too and I'll admit it too Chris did not do bad as Mario. So yeah really enjoyable movie.
I'm getting my only critique out of the way
the pacing is way too fast. They show something cool, but then they quickly move on to the next without much time to breathe.
But besides that, I loved everything about it. From beginning to end, my smile never faded
So many references to so many Mario Games and (and non mario games as well)and its outstanding, I love how well the characters were represented and the voice acting was really good despite my initial concerns. The ending was awesome and had a very touching moment(stay after the credits). The plot is what I expected from a Mario movie, so i was not disappointed. however, they did expand the lore a little in some aspects, not much, but I found it really cool. It was also surprisingly funny and not cringey. Lastly, every action focus scene was great. If you can not tell me, I loved it
100% . That was my only critique as well. That much awesomeness deserved a longer runtime
The day after I played Mario kart and Mario party with my family and the movie just made me appreciate Mario and the mushroom kingdom even more.
My favorite thing about this film, is how it's not a Mario movie, it's a MARIO BROTHERS film.
Hardcore fans of the series might know that unless you're in the context of Luigi's Mansion, Mario and Luigi have a very mixed relationship. Hell in some games it seems like Mario has something AGAINST Luigi, but in this movie, they really highlight that they're brothers and they care about each other, how despite Mario being the leader and Luigi's hero, they're a duo and they are willing to do anything for each other, even if it is facing into the fire for the sake of protecting one another.
I also love how there's a bit of a poetic sense of how gamers "never give up" within Mario's character. He's clearly the type of guy that has to prove to others that he can succeed and win, and no matter how many times he goes down, he doesn't actually stops trying. This is obviously going into interpretations and philosophical LOL but i think Mario, a video game character, fits that role better than any other character.
3:40 diddy kong racing has been recently announced for a remake/remaster
This movie was FUN, and that’s EXACTLY what it’s supposed to be!
~_~
I really like this peach in the movie! She's not a damsel in distress but truly a warrior princess!!
Girl power! ✊
No wonder this movie came out on Easter weekend. It had all the eggs
I loved the movie, the theater clapped! Very fun movie 8/10
My wife hates when people clap after a movie but even she was clapping after this lol
I absolutely LOVED this movie. Went above my expectations
I loved how tough Peach was, because it showed that she was a capable ruler. The power dynamic was good too. Peach was tough but even with Donkey Kong, they wasn’t strong enough to defeat Bowster. Mario couldn’t even do it alone. He needed the support from Luigi as much as Luigi needed from him. And with the strength of them being so close and working together, allowed Mario and Luigi to over power Bowster. Also the superstar.
This movie is a good movie, hell I think it's easily one of the best video game movies out there right now. It's as accurate as you can get to the games, the music is fantastic, the cast is actually really really good, especially Chris Pratt honestly. My only real criticism with the movie is keeping Mario and Luigi separated, Chris Pratt and Charlie Day have great chemistry together and the sweet moments they have together are honestly so touching that I wish they were together the whole movie.
The 1989 Super Mario Bros Super Show Cartoon rap was used in their plumbing commercial!
WHY DOES JOSHIE EGG WAS AT THE END WHEN WE CLEARLY SAW A PACK OF JOSHIE IN THE MOVIE WHEN THEY ARE ON THEIR WAS TO DK ISLAND UNLESS PEOPLE FORGOT
I absolutely loved the film. Didn't really have expectations but been playing Mario games since I 91 and have played the vast majority of the games multiple times with many of then being some of my favorite games of all times. I hope the movie gets the success it needs despite the critics because I would love a sequel. I actually would love to watch it a second time just to try and spot the insane amount of references in the movie. Actually I wasn't the biggest fan of Peach's character but it grew on me. She just seemed a bit like every generic female lead nowadays but she was still fun and funny. Honestly, Chris Pratt did alot better as Mario's voice than I thought. I agree though that hopefully Luigi gets more action in a sequel.
peaches, peaches, peaches, peaches, peaches
Great movie for all ages
I watched some Easter egg videos, and some idiots called the mini-mushroom a poison mushroom.
5:00 speak it brother. Much love
Wouldn't of minded more yoshi stuff
Also liked in the start before the castle scene. A shop outside said project dolphin
Say it today and had a great time with it! I grew up with Mario, Mario 64 was the first console video game I ever played at 4 years old (I’m 28 now) and I played pretty much all of the major and spin-off games. The Easter eggs were awesome, my two favorites were Luigi’s ringtone being the GameCube jingle and playing the DK rap for donkey kongs music. I also loved Peaches facial expressions as well the animation provided by illumination. I’m an illustrator for a living so I pay attention to that kind of stuff. I also loved that it was both Mario and Luigi at the end not just Mario getting the W, Luigi is my favorite Nintendo character. The only thing I think I would change is taking out the licensed music and replace that with more Mario tunes. Overall, super fun and would love to see another one. Cheers Danny 🤘🏻
When I saw that Yoshi egg, I was like "YES! YOSHI!!!!"
Hopefully in the sequel, we also get Daisy, Wario, and Waluigi.
Agree with you about the political extremes. Peach is a bit op but the movie is about mario and luigi and brother love. I bet in the sequels the mario and peach relationship will develop so when he rescues her its more emotional than just rescuing someone he doesnt know
This movie had me laughing hard AF, toadstool was that guy 💪🏾🤣
I loved how badass Peach was. Fuck the haters
The piano was named after Ludwig Von Koopa!
I loved the music remixes. Me and my friends spent most of that movie pointing at the screen and smiling at each other
In fairness to Grace Randolph, humans are humans--no matter where they live or what culture they were raised in. There will always be sibling rivalry as long as there is life on earth, never mind human life.
damn this movie was a blast! That luma star had me dying
Outstanding movie. If I had to nitpick, I think the Ice Flower scene was a tad overwrought, but I did like it. It was a very cunning, Peachy thing to do. Brooklyn went a little too cartoony in the opening; the dog and the first plumbing job felt like a typical Illumination cartoon. Nevertheless, even those scenes were well done for the purpose of setting up the Bros.'s arc.
I kinda wish Luigi could have done more, but when he does step up, he REALLY steps up. Peach being the mentor makes sense if you're going to take the Brooklyn origin story seriously, and she actually does have a sit-down with Mario about how good she was at the training course, which I appreciated. Danny's right, she IS the best character in Mario 2, so it works. At the same time, when they go to see Cranky Kong, Peach gets basically stonewalled and Mario is the one to step up. Bowser is PERFECT, I've been pleasantly surprised by Jack Black's performance ever since the first trailer.
Side note, I certainly agree with Danny's take on political extremes ruining good fun, but sometimes I think people in the middle don't realize just how irrelevant the far right is. About the only person I've seen complain about Peach being too girlboss is Shadiversity...and I'm one of those right-wing nut jobs who retreated to Truth Social and Fediverse. Everyone I talk to loves this movie.
Lumalee the tear did have some thought provoquing lines. Kinda of funny but mostly dark.
Great spoiler review. I hope the Nintendo cinematic universe expands!
If I have one criticism about this movie, it's the over-reliance on Power Ups.
They're a useful tool, but to the best of my knowledge there's never been a bowser fight in Mario history that required a power-up to win.
(Not including fan Kaizo type stuff)
I loved Bowser's headbanging shortly after him announcing his intention to marry Princess Peach. I laughed at all the subtle details in the animation. I hate how ideological thinking people have become. Such a moronic way to view the world!
They even had OG mario😂playing the arcade
A solid 8.5 for me, I think the sequel will be better since we won't have to introduce all of these new things and we focus on the characters more... but I wonder who the villain will be assuming Bowser is down for most of the next movie.
What? I haven't noticed that Star Fox reference (to be fair I've barely played them but wow, cool XD)
As I've said before, i LOVE this movie. It's a love letter for Mario fans and i really like that. Honestly, the movie just made me very happy, i laughed a lot, I've enjoyed it a lot. The scene with Mario taking care from Luigi's bully was wholesome dude. My favorite joke was probably when Bowser says "after being enemies from long time... I'll marry Peach" and the Koopa troopa pulled the WTF XD. I really recognized pretty much the 80% of the references i guess, even when I'm not a Mario's expert and that was amazing. I could be wrong but i guess the last post credits scene maybe was a joke/reference to the end of Godzilla (the 1998s movie), you know, when it's about to end and we find out there's a little egg hatching (maybe I'm exaggerating but i guess we can see the resemblance XD). Great review man. Also, the music, chef kiss ❤️❤️❤️
Speak that truth Danny!
This movie is awesome ❤ this movie
I don't agree with the term "memberberries" for this because this is a adaptation. This isn't like Star Wars where it's a sequel and it just copies a lot from a pre-existing movie. You have to have stuff from the games in the movie. It is what it is. If they had them saying "Trust the fungus" that would be a memberberry.
this movie was fantastic man the critics are lame
Awesome movie. It was a blast and now I can’t wait to get some yoshi!
Glass Joe tho
I wonder if they will do a Mario rpg movie imagine Mario Luigi peach team up with bowser
Bowser went full Tenacious D
Joshieeeeee as wellll
I hope we get starfox movie someday
I had a lot of fun
Amen!
One thing i can ..i freaking love this movie so people can shut they mouth up and stop crying like a baby over a kids movie. It not for everybody, it's only for mario fans. Get over it
Overall geekdom i glad you like the movie
Loved this movie but not as good as either Sonic movie.
1st let's get it Geekdom
This was super mario bros super show the movie. I like the movie.
I personally thought this was perfect for a kids and a great family movie , just a fun time no woke/antiwoke message need more movies like this
It was hella woke, though.
They included Groomer Road to shove that propaganda down everyone's throats.
Not to mention they made Peach trans.
