This is a neat idea. I think, however, that Link might just default to the design of Toon Link as Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks are both DS games.
But since Young Link and Toon Link are considered separate characters in the real Smash games it might be weird for Toon Link to take over as the main Link.
HazardZone! Thank you so much for the shoutout and the wonderful nods to my Channel! It’s meant to give parents time to get off work so they can pick their kids up, anyway. My time in the program was spent almost entirely on my Ds playing games with other kids. I remember vividly a kid telling me about smash bros on the Ds as well as Mario galaxy and that’d he’d give me his copies to barrow if I gave him a few of my Pokémon cards. Lmao to this day, I’m still waiting for him to get the copies from his grandmas cabin.

I think the Pokeball item would be possible if the Pokemon were all 2D sprites with minimal animations similar to Smash 64. The selection of Pokemon would likely need to be fairly small though. Also, fun fact: even though Metal Gear is mostly a home console series, it already had a handheld game in the form of Ghost Babel (2000) on the GBC by the time of Brawl. Funnily enough, it’s one of the best reviewed games in the series. Since then, we’ve had Snake Eater 3D on the 3DS; the Ac!d duology, Portable Ops, and Peace Walker (the first and only handheld mainline title) on the PSP; and now technically the Master Collection on Switch.

I could see the ds version of smash just being something like mario 64 ds but for smash 64 so like most of the features of the n64 games with maybe 4 more characters and keeping all the minigames with the targets and platforms and maybe even adding one more
Interesting. I think Samus might have been based on her Prime suit, since Prime Hunters’ demo was boxed in with the og DS and was largely used to show off the system’s graphical power.
i think a way to get around a lot of issues like the pokemon or zelda's smash 4 styled down special would be using sprites, especially if they tried something simmilar to DKC having them be models made into sprites, it'd be a neat compromise i think
If this game did exist it be interesting to see why ultimate would’ve taken from this version 🤔 *obviously the DS exclusive characters would be in ultimate which would make sense*
It would've been interesting to see what a Smash Bros. DS would've been like. Great video! And yeah, Retromesh's videos on this hypothetical game are pretty great.
When I was a kid, I knew Smash first for Super Smash Flash 1, and when I finally played the real deal by Melee, I always wished they had ported Flash or made a Flash-like smash game for the GBA/DS, obviously without the Anime and Mr. Incredible, I was aware enough to know what was up with those inclusions (I thought Blade and Blue were actual obscure sonic characters though)
As palette swaps for the game, I feel like every fighter should be reduced to 4 costumes since we’re talking about hardware limitations, also I feel there would only be red and blue teams for team smash
I personally think Red Savarin from Solatorobo: Red The hunter would make an AMAZING guest character for this hypothetical Smash DS game! Seeing as that game was a DS exclusive. He'd be a heavy grappler type character. Also, going with the heavy DS representation, i think Mario Party DS should be represented in this game in the form of the minimizer. It would work like a mulit-use version of the poison mushroom. Question is, should it become part of Bowser's moveset or become an item anyone can grab?
on god i split the timeline when i was a kid clear as day i remember being in cvs with my mom and there was brawl for the ds and for the wii like around the time the game came out and i picked the wii one and i have never seen that box for the ds version again cause it doesn’t exist
They could make it where dr mario is a skin variant such as 3 recolour and 1 model which introduces an accessory like Dr mario having a white scheme with a head stethoscope or pikachu wearing ash's cap.
I like thinking about how i would be in this alternate reality. Although w the roster here id prob be a gannon main in this one cuz none of my other mains are here. Also u should do a movesett vid for each char.
I think pokeballs could stay cause, surely you could just do what the original smash 64 did and make the pokemon 2d images like what you suggested for the food items.
I've never really been too into Smash Bros, but I have to advocate for Neku from The World Ends with You if this game were to exist. Unfortunately, I don't think he really became a more well-known character until Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance released later on, making it a hard sell for people, I would think.
Silly question, but instead of Sceptile, would Grovyle work? It could draw simultaneously from the anime (Where Ash had Grovyle for a long while), and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers ofTime/Darkness (Which were already out at the time)
I dont know how to record GBA and DS games without looking for an emulator. And the emulators I tried had slowdown issues. I would have used more GBA and DS footage if I could, but I don't have a way to record my systems
i definitely think they'd pick lucas over ness for a handheld only smash game, i could also see them doing hector or lyn instead of ike for a fire emblem rep
I think it’d be cool and on theme to have Ike as a Wii exclusive while introducing Lyn, Hector, or Eliwood as the fighter in Smash DS with their game was on the Gameboy Advance and Ike was on the home consoles 🤷♂️ could be a simple change to make the games more distinct. I’d prefer a Sacred Stones character since it’s my favorite Fire Emblem game, but I’m one of few lol
Would this have come out before or after Brawl? I believe the roster would have been the N64 12, Peach, Bowser, Zelda, *Ganondorf, *Lucario, *King Dedede with his NiD Tackle Rush instead of throwing things, *Meta Knight, *Marth, Lucas, *ROB, *Falco, Pit, & *Game & Watch. I don't think we would have gotten DS Exclusive Characters.
Awesome hypothetical for a Smash on the DS though my only gripe would be the reason you cut Dedede was because of the Gordo and Waddle Dee even though that is just one move Dedede can replace like how you gave Zelda the Ice Rod instead of the Phantom.
I get that, but unlike Zelda, DeDeDe doesn't have that many options, plus him having his minions from the games brings more of that "Video Game Badguy" energy
@@-hazardzone-7641 Fair enough, actually now that you mention it Zelda does have a plethora of magic and items to choose from for her specials while for Dedede I could only imagine him doing a Hammer Throw and from Super Star Ultra, the missiles he does when he is in his Masked Dedede form for his Side Special.
Alright, review time! First of all, the fact that you're working with a different time period provides a lot of leeway that really differentiates from my concept, so that's cool! You pretty much nailed it, and I’m glad that you took every aspect into account, including one of the most important ones being hardware limitations which a lot of people seem to forget. Limiting trophies to characters makes absolute sense; we don’t want too much clutter, but seeing the models in full is nice! I love that you included Giratina as a boss. I can’t do that for mine since my game is set before Gen IV, but it works, and the fact that it would serve as promotion for Platinum is an excellent strategy! "Great Calamity" is a very unique and profound idea. Providing a mix between worlds brings a very original dynamic that is unlike Melee's Adventure Mode and Subspace Emissary. In the end, it really captures the essence of a "crossover." I don’t have a problem with cutting out Poké Ball Pokémon! I’m still keeping them for my concept, but I admit that it poses a problem and adds more limitations. Having them as sprites wouldn’t look nice either in comparison to the other assets! Cutting them out would be the smartest choice here. I’m only including them because I’m a huge Pokémon fan, and I am dumb, but you’re very right on this! A lot of my viewers have suggested that I give Mario and Luigi their mallets for their forward smashes, and this video only made me want to do it more… ugh, dilemma! Giving love to handheld games is also something that I want to do, and I was so happy when you brought up Samus having her Fusion Suit and included a moveset based on that game. I can’t say how close your character roster will be to mine, but I can say that I can get behind yours! The roster is definitely one of the most important aspects here-it’s the face of marketing-so you want it to stand out by including popular characters, but also not be afraid to give love to lesser-known franchises, and you did that perfectly. My only critique would concern the marketing aspect. This is just an assumption on my part, but I believe that when Smash 4 was released, most of the target demographic had already aged into young adults. So I feel like there wasn’t much reliance on needing to convince parents to buy the two games. I imagine it’d be a little different here since most players would consist of children. The limited cross-compatibility would only worsen the issue. So, what I would do, if I were following a similar premise, is have the games release at least one year apart and maybe add a bit more connectivity between the two, like maybe being able to use the DS system as a controller. I know you didn’t state a specific release day in the video, so if this was the initial idea, forget about all of this! Besides that, excellent video, nothing was overlooked, and everything was broken down perfectly! 10/10 PS: I hate that Retromesh guy! He sucks and he’s stinky!
Thank you so much. I watch a couple of the streams and was worried that I was going to step on your toes with the character choices a little, so I wanted to be a little more out there with the idea. The problem I had logically thinking about the Ds being a controller for the Wii (much like how the 3ds was for the Wii U) is because I would worry in real life, the actual hardware would cause delays since the DS's actual connectivity in my experiences was pretty hit or miss I also had the issue of think how the pokemon would work with the pokeballs. Since even with sprites, visual affects would could clutter up the stage, and possibly cause slowdown on the actual DS. I had one of the Transformers games on the DS when I was young, and the game would slow down when a bunch of effects would appear on screen, and that was something that in reality , I believe Nintendo would have wanted to avoid. Thank you for the little feedback Essay on the video and I hope to see more from you soon. P.S. For Sonic, You should consider making his down air based on his bubble bounce from the classic series. It would be cool
@@-hazardzone-7641 Yes, I may have underestimated input-delays! I don't think that it would work as well as it did between the 3DS and Wii U, don't think that i'ts ever been tested. Maybe someone has done it through homebrew but I don't know xD I may be going a little too unrealistic with my concept, but we'll see how it turns out, in the end, most of my audience doesn't really care about hardware limitations, more-so the look of the game. That being said, I'm limiting the amount of pokemon on-screen to only one. I will write that down as a suggestion for Sonic since I don't really have too many ideas! I really need to play more Sonic games! I will credit you if I decide to use it!
I loved your video and your ideas but I think you were a little bit harsh with the character and stage cuts. We could see Smash 64 Remix for example and the large quantity of characters and stages (I know they're low poly but we can compare their power because of Mario 64 DS) and with characters like Dedede and Olimar you could replace the waddle dees and pikmin with 2D sprites so they don't affect performance, kinda like Mario Kart 64 with the characters being sprites but CRT TVs making it so it's not that noticeable. I'm hoping you're making a part 2 with more ideas or new videos with similar concepts! Great work!
Great video, though I am surprised to not hear anything regarding Professor Layton or Phoenix Wright (other than a passing reference to how Kyle Hyde would work), since both were highly requested characters whose whole franchise started out exclusively on handheld Nintendo consoles (I’d even argue that Kyle Hyde could be swapped out for Phoenix, given their similar playstyles). I’d say one or both of these characters would be easy pickings for a DS-centric Smash Bros., but otherwise, awesome job, I love the concept!
@@-hazardzone-7641 Professor Layton is Level 5, while Phoenix Wright is Capcom, though there are some companies that historically have close enough relations with Nintendo (like Sega, Capcom, Bandai Namco) that it seems likely they’d be willing to offer their characters anyway.
@@mysteriousone1206 Well that's the thing. I had in mind Brawl for the roster, so I didn't want to expand past the limits of that roster. And as I said in the video, the handheld wouldn't get more 3rd party reps then the Console, so unless the console version was also getting these character, they wouldn't show up in this version
Look, listen here, I didn't watch the video for you to explain this shit, but I want to say, I would be so FUCKING happy that THEY added it on the DS and changed my life forever, because I LOVE Super Smash Bros. Brawl considering it is part of my childhood growing up playing this, and IF they did, I would NONSTOP LOVING IT TIL THE DAY THAT I DIE!
Me personally as a kid I always thought if they put super Mario 64 on the ds they could have put super smash bros 64 on the ds released around the same time as brawl maybe I was just a dreamer
if smash bros was on the ds, the 3ds version would have been called super smash bros 4 or something because they have to number everything oh they did it in this timeline anyway
Believe me or not, there exist a smash bros on DS, The name is Super Smash Bros Clash iirc Edit: after a lil bit of research, Clash exist but i wasnt referering to that, i was referering to Crash. so yeah, 2 smash bros on DS
The reason I was adverse to adding a rhythm heaven character is because I feel they would need a lot of extra props and models for them to feel like they are from rhythm heaven, which I think wouldn't have been harder to implement if this was real
Maybe Add Characters from the DS Games of FF:CC Or Heracles-from the glory of Heracles there's a lot of good locations that can be turned into stages Or Sawbuck-from Black & White there are also plenty of Gym & City locations to make into stages as well Or Slime-from the DQMJ series we can also add Captain Crows ship & the Different islands as stages
This is my idea for some bosses that can be in the game I hope you like it Giratina(like you seid) Kracko (from Kirby ) King Goomba(mario 64 ds) Mother brain And Flandre Scarlet (maybe not😂)
I think the a ds smash game would be called "Super Smash Bros Duel"
That would imply a 1v1. See the problem?
I'm guessing "Duel" would be some Yin-Yang thing serving as the Story Mode. Classic Free For Alls can still be in it.

They could make it where dr mario is a skin variant such as 3 recolour and 1 model which introduces an accessory like Dr mario having a white scheme with a head stethoscope or pikachu wearing ash's cap.
A DS Super Smash Bros. probably wouldn't be called Super Smash Bros. Brawl DS. It would be called Super Smash Bros. Duel or something like that.
I like thinking about how i would be in this alternate reality.
Although w the roster here id prob be a gannon main in this one cuz none of my other mains are here.
Also u should do a movesett vid for each char.
Maybe at some point
I think pokeballs could stay cause, surely you could just do what the original smash 64 did and make the pokemon 2d images like what you suggested for the food items.
I've never really been too into Smash Bros, but I have to advocate for Neku from The World Ends with You if this game were to exist. Unfortunately, I don't think he really became a more well-known character until Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance released later on, making it a hard sell for people, I would think.
I really hope to see at least one world ends with you character in smash someday, they just all have a certain swagger that I love.
Silly question, but instead of Sceptile, would Grovyle work? It could draw simultaneously from the anime (Where Ash had Grovyle for a long while), and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers ofTime/Darkness (Which were already out at the time)
I mean yeah, its just Idk if Nintendo would actually do that instead of the final evolution
Surprised you didnt use more DS and GBA footage, theres great games for it on there and they all run on the same console (early DS have GBA ports)
I dont know how to record GBA and DS games without looking for an emulator. And the emulators I tried had slowdown issues. I would have used more GBA and DS footage if I could, but I don't have a way to record my systems
That go for it man scared me
Good Video needs more subs
Underrated asf. Keep it up brother
i definitely think they'd pick lucas over ness for a handheld only smash game, i could also see them doing hector or lyn instead of ike for a fire emblem rep
Super smash crash: Am i a joke to you?
Assist trophies, pokemon and items should be pngs like smash 64
goated this guy is underated
Around the same time. Possibly a couple of months before Brawl, or Released at the same time
Awesome hypothetical for a Smash on the DS though my only gripe would be the reason you cut Dedede was because of the Gordo and Waddle Dee even though that is just one move Dedede can replace like how you gave Zelda the Ice Rod instead of the Phantom.

In the end, it really captures the essence of a "crossover."
I don’t have a problem with cutting out Poké Ball Pokémon!
PS: I hate that Retromesh guy! He sucks and he’s stinky!
Thank you so much. I watch a couple of the streams and was worried that I was going to step on your toes with the character choices a little, so I wanted to be a little more out there with the idea.
The problem I had logically thinking about the Ds being a controller for the Wii (much like how the 3ds was for the Wii U) is because I would worry in real life, the actual hardware would cause delays since the DS's actual connectivity in my experiences was pretty hit or miss
I also had the issue of think how the pokemon would work with the pokeballs.
Maybe someone has done it through homebrew but I don't know xD
I may be going a little too unrealistic with my concept, but we'll see how it turns out, in the end, most of my audience doesn't really care about hardware limitations, more-so the look of the game.
Is Layton Nintendo? I know Phoenix Wright isn't, but I wasn't sure with Layton
One 3rd party that could've been in is Mega Man Zero, since that came out on the game boy advance
i only clicked cuz i had the same idea
Look, listen here, I didn't watch the video for you to explain this shit, but I want to say, I would be so FUCKING happy that THEY added it on the DS and changed my life forever, because I LOVE Super Smash Bros. Brawl considering it is part of my childhood growing up playing this, and IF they did, I would NONSTOP LOVING IT TIL THE DAY THAT I DIE!
Me personally as a kid I always thought if they put super Mario 64 on the ds they could have put super smash bros 64 on the ds released around the same time as brawl maybe I was just a dreamer
I think that pokeballs could stay if the pokemon are sprites instead of models like smash 64
4:22 stop the hate that stage is amazing Pokeball Pokémon’s can be Sprites like in the N64 Version
if smash bros was on the ds, the 3ds version would have been called super smash bros 4 or something because they have to number everything
oh they did it in this timeline anyway
Believe me or not, there exist a smash bros on DS, The name is Super Smash Bros Clash iirc
Edit: after a lil bit of research, Clash exist but i wasnt referering to that, i was referering to Crash. so yeah, 2 smash bros on DS
As much as I love the fact that Isaac gets to be a playable character, with all the other sacrifices this game had to make, it just isn't worth it.
I mean, hypnotically, if this game were to be real, He would join in ultimate with all the features he missed out on
Leave that to retromesh
Who remembers the old smash bros 2d Ds games that those hacking cartridges had?
There was a DS Version! It's called Super Smash Crash DS! But it was a home-brew game
I feel like jigglypuff would Stay do to her being a simple addition
Retromesh is working on concept for it
I wonder if I said that in the video?
@@-hazardzone-7641 oop my bad
I feel like if they ever did make a ds smash bros game it would probably be just a smash 64 remake
Yeah I wonder why we didn’t get a Smash Bros on the DS if we got one I could’ve been called Super Smash Bros Kung Fu or Super Smash Bros Infinite
Every character should have a ski. That's just a Pokemon
Huh, I'm surprised you didn't include a rhythm heaven character as a potential new commer; they are mainly portable games
The reason I was adverse to adding a rhythm heaven character is because I feel they would need a lot of extra props and models for them to feel like they are from rhythm heaven, which I think wouldn't have been harder to implement if this was real
Maybe Add Characters from the DS Games of FF:CC
Or Heracles-from the glory of Heracles there's a lot of good locations that can be turned into stages
Or Sawbuck-from Black & White there are also plenty of Gym & City locations to make into stages as well
Or Slime-from the DQMJ series we can also add Captain Crows ship & the Different islands as stages
This is my idea for some bosses that can be in the game I hope you like it
Giratina(like you seid)
Kracko (from Kirby )
King Goomba(mario 64 ds)
Mother brain
And Flandre Scarlet (maybe not😂)
It would be like smash bros for 3DS/Wii U
Bowser and snake is probably a hell no
As in?
@@malcolmlloydandrileyproduc6451 Snake is no issue. Make his projectiles 2D.
There's actually a series on RUclips that focuses on this concept
I wonder if I talked about that same channel in both the video and the description
@@-hazardzone-7641 yeah that's him
