The Final Smashes were most likely simplified because of 8-Player Smash and especially the addition of a Final Smash Meter, in which they will happen a lot more often, so it's important to keep the pace of the match flowing. It is not because the developers couldn't think of original Final Smashes for a large number of characters.
This is one of those times where I look at the sub and view count after watching a video and I'm perplexed. How tf is this channel not more popular !?! great video man
They turned Warioman from a superhero to a superzero. I used to have a blast using his motorcycle to see how long I could drive on Big Blue, flying as long as I could. It was great. Now it's just a cutscene. So boring.
Finally, someone said it! One of my main gripes with Ultimate was making all Final Smashes basically be the same finisher move. I hope we'll go back to more unique final smashes in the next smash game.
I see your point. I haven’t tested out everyone’s Final Smash, but I love the change from Zelda’s Light Arrow to the Triforce of Wisdom. It fits well with Ultimate Zelda’s character.
This video ended up being much funnier than I thought. Your use of funny sound effects kept me engaged. The SpongeBob bit with Giga Bowser Punch caught me off guard. When I think of the term "Final Smash", I picture an elaborate attack designed to finish off your enemy. Although I don't know for sure, this might be part of the reason why Sakurai decided to make them straight to the point in Ultimate. Still, there is a missing piece of magic from removing the transformation Final Smashes. Wario-Man is fun, but Giga Bowser is among my personal favorites; it's nice to finally play as a character who was originally a tough boss back in Melee. Taking advantage of Giga Bowser's reach is so cool to me. Lucario's Mega Evolution from Smash 4 is another great one; being able to use his maximum aura power regardless of your current damage is fantastic. This is a fun video.
@@dannypalin9583 It probably would've been more fun if you could directly move Luigi around though. Heck, throw in the elemental medallions from Luigi's Mansion like the fangame SSB Crusade did.

Great video! The editing and the amount of detail you go into the Final Smashs is amazing! Also Pichu getting hit by your final smash at the end made me laugh lol
Yeah out of all the final smash lobotomies DDDs is the only one I'm really ok with. The big gay dance is super fun and unique but I also love the impact on him slamming the hammer into the opponent. Few of the other characters got that same impact though, and the ones that did still felt off. Take megaman for example. There's however many lazers and they amount to the same force as a vacuum cleaner. The game as a whole also just feels off to me. I'm a fully casual player and I'd much rather have tripping than whatever they did to ultimate to make it feel so off.
9:15 I... half-disagree. This game still did things to cater to competitive fans, such as having the Level 9 CPUs be trained using actual competitive players. Smash Ultimate was trying to do both, be good for casuals AND competitives. The issue with Final Smashes is that they were tilted towards competitive very poorly.
@@Spenkr I like the idea of both approaches but the earlier games do their brand more justice. The fact that it's easier to make simpler final smashes is definitely an element thus the whole half-disagree thing, it's like if a new platform fighter only has competitive stages and modes or something, it's easier and competitive players are vocal about enjoying it in the kinds of spheres they expect to appeal to but the numbers will be low with the waning casual audience
I think it's a little bit of both but it all starts with the FS Meter. With the Smash Ball, Final Smashes were a special event that you had to earn and there would only be 1, or 2, or even none in a match. With Final Smash meter there's going to be a Final Smashes left and right and since you can't have multiple going off at the same time, it makes sense that Final Smashes had to be quick and to the point, and most importantly capable of whiffing since using a Final Smash was no longer a reward in of itself. Sure full on transformations like Giga Bowser and Wario Man I can completely understand being cut for time, but surely in a bunch of these cases animating a whole cut-scene takes more work then just porting the move, and the majority of the controllable final smashes were pretty limited to begin with. As someone who plays a lot with FS Meter on the idea of spending half the match avoiding the Landmaster and not being able to do anything to stop it, would easily have made me turn it off immediately.
Rosalina's Final Smash in Smash 4 was more fun though if you threw the opponents right in the center. Just watch their damage rack up before they fly off the screen unceremoniously. Now, it's simplified and easier since it sucks them in, but it's not as gratifying with fixed damage. Final Smash Meter was such a poorly thought out mechanic, it's actually crazy. At its core, it functions as a really frustrating "win more" mechanic that can basically guarantee whoever gets first stock wins the game making it really frustrating to make a good comeback. On a competitive level, its hella unbalanced as certain characters (Zelda, Peach etc.) get busted final smashes that guarantee kills while other final smashes are hilariously bad and/or easy to dodge (Sonic, Game and Watch, all the Star Fox characters). On a casual level, the Final Smash Ball is so much better than the Final Smash Meter. Not only is it much rarer and therefore more impactful, but Final Smash Ball also doesn't immediately advantage the player in the lead quite like the Final Smash Meter, and you are actually encouraged to keep fighting with the smash ball to knock it out unlike with meter where you just have to run away. That being said, with the exception of Piranha Plant, Steve, and maybe Banjo and Sora, I think most of the newcomers would have had cutscene Final Smashes anyway when you consider their character/toolkits. Hopefully they tune Final Smash Meter in the next game or just outright replace it with something more interesting.

there's a neat mode in ARMS where you try to get the 6 arm helmet from the other 3 players, and get points from getting KOs with the six arm helmet, like halos juggernaut mode. give min-min the 6 arm helmet!
steve joins the club! he COULD go into creative mode, but everyone has that idea. what if instead, night fell. out of the shadows, zombies, skeletons, grabby endermen and creep-bombs, attacking everyone in sight. EVERYONE. steve's final smash is just as dangersome for himself! or just drop TNT everywhere.
seth.... beeeecomes the final boss and attacks everyone? I guess?
pyra and mythra fuse to become pneuma. I don't like it, but it's lore accurate, so it works.
kazuya... oooohhh man, the idea that he could have just activated his other half, man. we were robbed.
and sora joins the club, he has too many super moves.
and that's all the new people in ult! why did I do this? well, to prove your point mostly. They could'a bin better. lovely show sir.
OH, byleth! um! uh... set the house on fire? I don't know three houses please help
Thank you for such an in-depth analysis for some ACTUALLY good Final Smashes 👏
@@Spenkr you're welcome, and good tidings in your future!
Poor Super Sonic
Yeah Ultimate Super Sonic sucks 😕
You get a sub
Thank you!!
Wooow nostalgia realy is strong. These "boring finishers" are objectively better then the controllable ones for multiple reasons but ofc who am i to say that crushing the opponent jnder dozens of yohshi is lamer then flying around with a glorified png and shooting fireballs in complete silence
Agree to disagree. I prefer being able to control my character rather than watch the same mp4 file over and over again
i know we're talking about changed final smashes but the absolute worst final smash in ultimate has to be hero's just because it's literally soooo basic and for a cutscene final smash it doesn't even blend into the game well -- it's literally like they interrupt the game to play a pre-rendered MP4 and then place hero's model right into it -- boring and ugly to look at it's crazy
Yeah just another boring cutscene final smash 😴
Great vid
@@crazykid1325 Thank you!!!
Good stuff
Thank you, Erik Lopez!
U look like an Asian Zac Efron. 😂
LOOOL
@Spenkr Great video, btw. I...probably should've said that first. I don't like how the final smashes changed, either. There's less...pizzazz!
Thank you for the support! The spark is now gone for final smashes 😭
Man I was supposed to be first
It's all good man 😊
Your final smash is PEAK 🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you, thank you I've been practicing 😌
