Diana Ankudinova possesses the most unique mesmerizing memorable amazing atavistic tribunal primordial shaman goddess voice in the world -any age. At age 14 her incredible and legendary performance of an old ritual wedding folk song titled “ rechenka” ( River in English) Is -to this day-considered by many professional vocalists and coaches as the most unique and mesmerizing live performance by a vocalist -any age , in the history of Russian talent shows. And along with “ Human” ( low notes to die for.. she’s a rare mezzo contralto ) and “ Wicked Game” contributed to her winning not only the kids contest for 2 consecutive years but catapulted her to international stardom.
with millions of avid followers worldwide. And you might want to read a little about her tragic younger years as an orphan abandoned and tossed into a garbage can unable speak for years after she was up for adoption by her birth mother at age 3.

She entered her first kids contest in Russia where she sang a song that required masterful yodeling.
It was a masterpiece, a tour de force, some say the best yodeling performance in the history of videos showcasing yodeling, but in this performance it wasn’t just her amazing yodeling but also her body movement and stage presence and incredible as this might sound ( and I’ll shortly explain the reason why) but NOT ONE CHAIR TURNED!!!!
After the song was finished and the judges turned around , the audience interrupted what they were saying by giving Diana a 5 minute STANDING OVATION. After the applause, the judges had her perform a segment of a French song made famous by Edith Pief and after she sang it , the lady judge covered her face with both hands in utter shock , disbelief and SHAME. The judges said they didn’t press their buttons because they couldn’t teach her anything. She was beyond their level already. But this turned out to be a BLATANT LIE and one of the worse scandals in Russian talent contest history. Because the following day it was revealed that the contest was “ fixed” the winner was “bought” before the show started. A total travesty of justice.
And the following days over 80 million who watched the contest when posted on RUclips spit on the judges.
But she got her revenge the following year and year thereafter by winning not only the Russian contests in two consecutive years but 60 more awards and contests.
Please ( when you get the chance) I BEG of you to at least privately react by YouTubing “ Diana Ankudinova yodeling”.
And you’ll witness a yodeling masterpiece and if you stay to near the end of the judges commentary ( making excuses and lying) you will hear a brief portion of the French song the judges asked her to sing that she NAILED!
And there is a video of her outside a mall at age 11 singing this same French song but the complete version and she KILLED IT!!!! And at age 13 a classic flamenco song called “ me toy” hi how she performed with amazing emotional impact. And when you’re convinced that she’s one of the best female vocalist in the world ( like millions of others including myself) you may want to react to a couple of her newer songs: ( she just turned 17 the other day) like “by your voice”. and a masterpiece titled “Tomorrow is a lie” ( 4.26 one posted by HTB with famed composer Igor at the piano).

Hello Sam... You absolutely have to do a reaction to her song "Rechenka" ("River"), it is mind blowing. Even though you will not understand the words (kind of ancient Russian, I guess), you won't need to because she will draw you into the spooky world of ancient earthly spirits in a very dramatic and passionate fashion. In that song, she delivers an unbelievable performance (not only singing but bringing a character to life) and her vocals are totally mesmerizing because she showcases all her wonderful vocal abilities. Check it out, you won't regret it. Her "Rechenka" is an absolute gem !

I heard she was abused as a young child to the point when she was found at the age of three she was unable to speak, her adoptive mom had her go to a therapist to speak and they taught her through singing. (or so I read somewhere) Also, she used to like to yodel. I did see a video where she was yodeling.

Thank you for your reaction to Diana Ankudinova. Diana actually turned 16 on 31st May 2019, but was indeed 15 at the time of this performance. The show she is on here is Ты супер! (translated as "You are Super") and it is for children who have found themselves without parental care at some point in life. According to the programme, Diana was abused by her biological mother until around the age of 3 years, and ended up in an orphanage. While there, a massage nurse named Irina Ponik took care of her, and a strong bond was formed, to the extent that a year afterward Diana was adopted by Irina, and Irina has been her "Mom" ever since. It seems that for the first year or so Diana would hardly speak, and singing lessons were recommended, and the rest is history. Diana has a haunting deep contralto voice which has shocked audiences from an early age. Diana is now with a loving family, and her music training goes from strength to strength. Since winning the show, she has received much support from Igor Krutoy, the judge with the bald head who pushed his green button last, and who is one of Russia's foremost composers and song writers. You may have seen him play piano for Dimash sometimes. Diana's cover of "Rechenka" a Russian folk song, on the same show in 2018 when she was only 14 is something else, and very much worth watching. HI Sam that was great reaction & breakdown. Of all the covers on this song 3 are my favorites. The originals from Chris back in 89 ( which I fell in love with back then) Then there's Diana Ankudinova I love how she took & made a big production without letting it overwhelm her & she turned it into a great Pop song in a modern way with a little Russian folk song style to it.I believe Diana is a either a contralto profondo or a low contralto. Than there's Angelina Jordan's arrangement & composition of it, she went the exact opposite direction completely redone it & just her on her little keyboard in her room playing 3-4 cords & just telling a story using her voice just amazing. Diana was born May 31, 2003 Far East, Russia. Diana [Diː ˈa: na:] is our National Treasure. This title is given for unique vocal skills, human qualities and GREAT LOVE of the people of all ages. In US this is equivalent to the title "Living Legend". I think, there are only 2 vocal maximums: "Alien" Dimash and "Goddess of the Nature" Diana.

Btw, that bald guy in "last" judge chair is Igor Krutoy, very respected and famous russian composer. I would dare to say he is new Tchaikovsky of our era. You may remember him from few Dimash songs, he cooperate with him a lot.
This video is from russian competition series "You are super!". Diana won (obviously :D ) and Igor give her apartment in Moscow (not cheap thing especially in Moscow), that she can study on musical academy and get proper singing training.

I think he was waiting for a break in her singing so as not to distract from her performance. I"ve seen other parts of the show where he hits pretty fast.

Greetings from Russia, Sam! Thank you for your sincerity, emotions and analysis! Diana is various in her ways of rendering songs. Her low notes partly represent Russian traditional music, but in general it's her way of singing, her low larynx techniques...watch a Russian ritual song "Rechen'ka" (Small River) and you'll have much food for thought!

Her technique is very simple but very difficult. She's singing through a yawn. Igor did not hit his button because he respected the song and didn't want to interrupt her with the applause.

The way she is singing is very unique, even in Russia. Her voice comes from the very back of her throat, with a wide open mouth. When you yawn while talking is similar to this, just that she is singing that way. She got titled as "the Shaman Girl" because everyone IS actually reminded of shaman chantings from ethnical siberian tribes.
Her most amazing performance would probably be "Rechenka" from the same show, when she was 15. Judges got literally enchanted. Also, with the song "Human" you get the whole shaman feeling.
I personally also love her performance of "This Is A Man's World" from the previous season of the show, when she was 14. There she totally looks like a child but has already this kind of voice.
It's super impressive that a 15 year old girl sang this in a much lower key than the original song, done by a man, lol. It sounded eerie for sure with the context of her stage and scenery, and she looked like a character from a folklore. She's so enigmatic and mystical sounding with her extremely deep voice.
My normal range is countertenor, so singing Disney princess songs were easier than male songs before I learned how to sing, lol. Even the low notes in A Whole New World for Aladdin gave me issues. Yeah, I sang his part in a higher key just intuitively. Now I can sing his part in the original key, so it's amazing how low her range can go. I figured if my range were naturally this high, there's bound to be females with naturally low ranges as well, and here comes Diana! From the sound of it, she has contralto and maybe alto range. I've only heard her sing two songs, so I'm not sure.
When you're doing the notes, your resonance is too far in your head to get the sound she's doing. She's able to make those sounds by pulling her larynx down, widening her throat, and shifting the resonance from the head down into the throat. I know it's rally bizarre, but that's the only method I've found that closely matches Cher, and she's like a Cher+, LoL.
You can't replicate it using classical or established singing techniques, which is evident when you were doing the notes. The first step is to sound like Cher, and then go even lower and wider in the throat. I'd describe her vocal range as baritalto, lol. It's like way beyond contralto.

Just a little background on her vocals since you were wondering. When she as younger she was put into singing lessons to help with a speech impediment, and through that, she got into yodeling, which is how her voice accustomed just a breathy, laryngeal sound. So unique❤️

This is a vocal contest of the Russian NTV channel for children with a difficult fate. The competition is called "You are super!".
Diana won it at age 14. This year, the channel announced the Super Season of the contest, she participated in it for the second time and won the Grand Prix.
I've read that Igor intentionally waited for a point where he knew his chair "boom" would not be distracting, out of respect for her voice.

The last guy is Maestro Igor Krutoy who is a great composer and teacher in Russia. He composed Dimash's Love of Tired Swans, Mademoiselle Hyde, and the current Ogni Pietra. I imagine Igor works with her. I could be wrong.

If you thought that this sounded eerie, check out her performance (in Russian) of 'Rechenka'! It's a traditional folk tale about an orphan girl who is engaged to someone she doesn't love, and she goes down to the river (the border between the living and the dead) to talk to her mother and ask for her advice. Beautiful, sad and haunting!
Another one to listen/watch is her performance of 'Human'; you get a good chance to check out her low voice!
'Blizzard' (in Russian) is another *very* good one! It's about a girl who asks for the snow to cover (bury) her and her house, because the one she loves is gone. Beautiful and sad, too!
She also has done 'Derniere Danse' (French) a few different times; shorter and longer versions. They're all good, but I personally prefer the longer ones!
If you watch her various performances, you'll realize that she is, as a teenager (!), already a Master Performer! Her vocal control is litterally uncanny, and her overall performance just draws you in ... simply mesmerizing!

Better angle Sam--showed your "what the hell's going on?" reaction nicely! Next, her performance of "Rechenka" ("River", in Russian), on the same show. She sings with the "tongue clench", with lowered soft palate, for nasality, as you picked up on. The voice actor for Kermit the Frog does the same thing and she may have been influenced by Cher and Shakira, as well. But she has such a command of the stage and her performance, doesn't she? "Rechenka" is a Russian folk song, I understand, and will jar your ideas of vocal pedagogy, Coach! And she appears to generate her "r-r-r-r-" timbre in a very healthy way! That's what's so stunning, in a youngster, and she's going to demonstrate some skillful control between chest and head tones (that's an understatement--don't want to tip you off to what you're going to hear). Then, don't forget to go to Dimash's YT channel and review "Ogni Pietra" (Arnau concert version), the cantata written specifically for him by Russian icon, Igor Krutoy (the bald guy who was frozen in his chair and took most of the song to register his approval).
