The musicians & technicians knew what they had and poured their absolutely great hearts into showcasing a girl who had nothing but pain in early life. They intended all four chairs to turn. There would be no ignoring her. The audience would demand it. The judges could not refuse them. No doubt these Russians had heard shamanic Siberian and Nordic and polyphonic Central Asian sounds, so none of that was unusual to them. Russians are the masters of all emotive music in my opinion. But to put all their skills in service of disadvantaged children...don't ever say there was no positive legacy from Russian Orthodoxy or Communism. These kinds of events are how we hear what is universally human. And it will always come from people who were thrown in the garbage.

i saw a home video of her in a recording studio singing derniere danse. After nailing it in one take she lets out a yell of relief and joy. I have never heard a yell like it, it was almost other worldly and very powerful and loud.

I had the same reaction as you did at first. This is the first time I ever heard such a multi-layered, thick sound. She has a very big larynx, and when she sings it sounds like she has several pitches going at once, like some large-handed piano player.
You wouldn't think it possible but in Rechenka Diana takes her stunning vocals a step further. While striding forward like a shaman, she summons all the spirits of nature. No wonder many claims that her larynx is the eight wonder of the world.
She comes from the area where Shamanism is historically prominent, so she may carry that energy through her singing. I think that there are also feautres of Throat Sining present in her voice, an additional aspect of Shamanic influence. She may not even be aware of it, but it's there..
Her ability to reach into your chest and just SQUEEZE your heart is amazing. I want her rendition of Cranes played at my funeral so even people who hate me will weep. I wonder if what she is doing is akin to throat singing?

Did Diana do an interview and tell how much of this register she is born with, and how much she devloped ? There are very few with big registers, but there are some. But yes, she is a phenom. This is extraordinary.
She grew up yodeling, and I think that led her to experiment with what her voice was capable of doing. I've heard other reactors say that many artists shy away from some of the things she does because they don't have her control.

It think it sounded like the same kind of sub harmonic effect that some male singers use to be able to sing an octave lower than their normal range, just higher. If you listen for it you can hear how the overtones move around when her mouth shape changes.

I really enjoyed your reaction - Diana Ankudinova is one of those rare performers who just stopped me in my tracks. I see others have made recommendations here, I second "Rechenka" (little river) which is a great performance of a traditional Russian folk song, so I have read. Rivers are supposedly gateways to the spirit world so the song has some spooky elements. And evidence that Diana was a successful competitive yodeler as a younger child. If you are okay with rock music, I'd suggest Rainbow "Stargazer" sung by Ronnie James Dio. His voice control and phrasing seems almost operatic to me. If you dare venture into progressive metal, I'd suggest Jinjer "Pisces live session" - just beware, it's a studio session rather than "raw live" audio. The vocalist is Tatiana Shmaylyuk and she has some interesting singing techniques. She has... range, power, lots of fans. She'll blow your socks off. Subbed.

Diana's cover of "Dernière Danse" gives me goosebumps - her voice is incredible
Her ability to reach into your chest and just SQUEEZE your heart is amazing. I want her rendition of Cranes played at my funeral so even people who hate me will weep. I wonder if what she is doing is akin to throat singing?
If you thought that was something special ( which it is ) . You have to react to Diana perform " Rechanka " from the same show . She shows off all her other worldly vocal qualities , it's really something to behold .

I wouldn't knock this particular show. Diana got a lot out of it, from phoniatrics treatment, nationwide exposure, to an apartment in Moscow, gifted to her by judge Igor Krutoy (a huge name in the industry).
The worst thing is that these shows are often biased

Did Diana do an interview and tell how much of this register she is born with, and how much she devloped ? There are very few with big registers, but there are some. But yes, she is a phenom. This is extraordinary.
She grew up yodeling, and I think that led her to experiment with what her voice was capable of doing. I've heard other reactors say that many artists shy away from some of the things she does because they don't have her control.

It think it sounded like the same kind of sub harmonic effect that some male singers use to be able to sing an octave lower than their normal range, just higher. If you listen for it you can hear how the overtones move around when her mouth shape changes.
Diana's "rechenca" is a master piece and she was only 14... pure talent!!

I really enjoyed your reaction - Diana Ankudinova is one of those rare performers who just stopped me in my tracks. I see others have made recommendations here, I second "Rechenka" (little river) which is a great performance of a traditional Russian folk song, so I have read. Rivers are supposedly gateways to the spirit world so the song has some spooky elements. And evidence that Diana was a successful competitive yodeler as a younger child.
If you are okay with rock music, I'd suggest Rainbow "Stargazer" sung by Ronnie James Dio. His voice control and phrasing seems almost operatic to me.
If you dare venture into progressive metal, I'd suggest Jinjer "Pisces live session" - just beware, it's a studio session rather than "raw live" audio. The vocalist is Tatiana Shmaylyuk and she has some interesting singing techniques. She has... range, power, lots of fans. She'll blow your socks off.

The only comparable singer I know of in the "pop" world is the Amazing Cher. I get goosebumps every time I hear Diana sing. I will add something that always wow me: "By Your Voice". I listen it weekly and each time is like firt time. The texture of her voice is something like a cyborg, a human cannot produce such sounds.
I remember first hearing Diana beginning of last year, I still get goosebumps at the beginning, middle & end of this track, I at first thought there was some technological trickery going on, but it's all her, mind-blowing, jaw on the floor performances. I always thought Diana is a force of nature and I feel shes and old soul. I feel as if and old soul reencarnated in her body and i also feel as she was compelling us through her singing. She speaks right to my soul I feel so connected to her witch spirit. I love her.
