Love her deep, low, rich timbre. Most vocalists we hear are high pitched. So refreshing to hear someone so unique. I think she was 15 when she performed this song. Plus she sings in 5 languages .... Russian, English, French, Spanish and Arabic! Very nice reaction and analysis!
She's a mezzo-contralto. They are pretty much on same notes like male tenors. Not only rare at her age. It is extremely rare at any age and on top of this most contralto voices do not sound beautiful. Her voice is a gift.

Relatives found the child with a broken collarbone in the street and took the 3-year-old girl to a children's home shortly thereafter. Finally, there she found love... from Irina Ponik, who worked as a massage therapist and treated children from the orphanage. Irina Ponik and her daughter Nastya fell in love with Diana. Taking a child into the family was of course not easy for Irina ... Of course, taking a child into the family was not easy for Irina but she became her 'mother' when Diana was 5 years. Diana now lives in a poor but loving family. Diana spoke badly but sang all the songs from cartoons. An acquaintance of her mother, a musician, noticed that Diana had a perfect pitch and advised her to take singing lessons. Good morning from Scotland! Diana singing in an amazing Russian competition "You are Super" for abandoned/disadvantaged children because Diana spent some years in an orphanage. Always fascinating to listen/watch a professional's dissection and opinion/reaction to a world class singer like Diana! You didn't falter with your explanation of her techniques and almost managed to contain your wonderment and delight at Diana's performance! :) In all my 66 years I have listened to practically every kind of singer there is - until I heard young Diana perform this old Chris Isaak hit. Although I recognised the title and the words I have NEVER heard anyone sing them with such vocal techniques and timbre as Diana! I knew right then that Diana was ultra special in the music world, even at 14/15yo she was WAY beyond some seasoned veteran singers abilities, especially where emotions are concerned! As she gets older she is continually experimenting with techniques and languages (Russian, English, French, Spanish, German and Arabic so far!). I hope that when Diana has finished her studies at the prestigious Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) she will consider a world tour and bring these extraordinary abilities to the rest of the world. Great reaction, Serene. This is my favorite Diana performance. So good! I noticed the same thing with how she can change up her placement so easily. She has such a unique timbre to her voice. Diana has a full range of songs that are wildly different. This song is just a small fraction of her ability. Rechenka will amaze you. You cut out her notes right before she belts at the end. Many people confuse that with instruments.
It almost sounds like she's figured out how to do tuvan throat singing but in the style of normal singing. Sounds polyphonic overtoneish when she goes very deep. Its a one of a kind voice that's for sure.

Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic alto, the rarest alto type. Dimash is the universe, but Diana is the earth, our home ... and when you hear her voice you feel like she has wrapped you in a warm velvet blanket and served you a mug of hot, dark chocolate. Every song is a unique experience, it captivates you, you feel bound by magic. Diana was born May 2003. 31 in Arsenyev in the Far East Russia. She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her, had 12 pregnancies, only Diana survived... and she did not love her child, mistreated her severely and tried to drown her. Relatives found the child with a broken collarbone in the street and took the 3-year-old girl to a children's home shortly thereafter. Finally, there she found love... from Irina Ponik, who worked as a massage therapist and treated children from the orphanage. Irina Ponik and her daughter Nastya fell in love with Diana. Taking a child into the family was of course not easy for Irina ... Of course, taking a child into the family was not easy for Irina but she became her 'mother' when Diana was 5 years. Diana now lives in a poor but loving family. Diana spoke badly but sang all the songs from cartoons. An acquaintance of her mother, a musician, noticed that Diana had a perfect pitch and advised her to take singing lessons. So Diana took lessons from the singing teacher Elena Anatolyevna Kazantseva, who discovered Diana's talent. And so it all started ... The Arseniev period lasted from the end of 2008 to September 2012. During this time Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions. Diana's mother became her daughter's manager, she found the addresses of music competitions, negotiated with the organizers and selected a repertoire. Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances and competitions is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She is looking for sponsors because flights are expensive and took extra sewing courses. Since then she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget. She accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary. After winning a competition in Moscow, Diana's mother was offered to leave the girl in a boarding school for gifted children. She refused and in 2012 moved with her small family to her hometown of Toglyatti, much closer to Moscow. Diana now also has a grandma and has also lost her fear that the woman who gave birth to her would kidnap her. 2013-2015 Diana played in the theater studio of Dmitry Marfin, director of children's programs at the Togliatti Philharmonic Society, whom Diana valued as 'a real workaholic and fan of her craft'. After her debut on June 3, 2014 (Diana played Becky Thatcher in the jazz musical 'Tom Sawyer and His Friends'), she met Svetlana Ivanovna Vovk, the director and pop singing teacher at the Togliatti College of Music and Rodion Shchedrin, member of the jury international and national music competitions and Diana's journey continued ... Diana's voice, her perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm were extraordinary even as a little girl and so she impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win. So, in 2017 on February she went to Moscow, at the Russian 'The Voice Kids'. Next day, a huge scandal broke out in social medias. People demanded for Diana's participation in the competition. A door had closed but a new door opened: In 2018 and 2019, Moscow hosted the 3rd season of a unique international Competition instead of “You are Super”, which was launched in 2016 specifically for adopted and orphaned children. Diana took part and won. These performances were broadcast nationwide, uploaded to RUclips and made Diana known worldwide. She now has many millions of fans around the world. The final of the international singing competition for children 'You are Super' took place in the Kremlin Palace. The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote. Diana won a scholarship to the music college. Igor Krutoy gifted her a small apartment in Moscow so that she could begin her vocal training with the best teachers in Moscow such as Professor Olga Donskoy (she died of Covid-19 in October 2020). The break of voice made Diana’s voice darker and deeper. During her vocal break, her voice sometimes went a little crazy. You can hear it in some videos from that time. She has mastered this time very professionally and worked hard to get the lost high notes back and has expanded her vocal range, currently from C3 - D6 ... and it will go on. Good morning from Scotland! Diana singing in an amazing Russian competition "You are Super" for abandoned/disadvantaged children because Diana spent some years in an orphanage. Always fascinating to listen/watch a professional's dissection and opinion/reaction to a world class singer like Diana! You didn't falter with your explanation of her techniques and almost managed to contain your wonderment and delight at Diana's performance! :) In all my 66 years I have listened to practically every kind of singer there is - until I heard young Diana perform this old Chris Isaak hit. Although I recognised the title and the words I have NEVER heard anyone sing them with such vocal techniques and timbre as Diana! I knew right then that Diana was ultra special in the music world, even at 14/15yo she was WAY beyond some seasoned veteran singers abilities, especially where emotions are concerned! As she gets older she is continually experimenting with techniques and languages (Russian, English, French, Spanish, German and Arabic so far!). I hope that when Diana has finished her studies at the prestigious Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) she will consider a world tour and bring these extraordinary abilities to the rest of the world. We will look after her and return her safely Russia, I promise! Great reaction and great explanation Serene! Diana has a full range of songs that are wildly different. This song is just a small fraction of her ability. Rechenka will amaze you. You cut out her notes right before she belts at the end. Many people confuse that with instruments.

It almost sounds like she's figured out how to do tuvan throat singing but in the style of normal singing. Sounds polyphonic overtoneish when she goes very deep. Its a one of a kind voice that's for sure.
