Hi Matt. Yeah, it's normal to assume effects were added to her voice in this particular performance, but as I have discovered, it's nowhere near the truth. How do I know? I've listened to many of her Wicked Game performances at different venues using all kinds of recording devices (cell phone, amateur cameras, all the way up to the highest quality productions) and yes, it's all her. Don't take my word for it. It's all on RUclips for you to peruse. Her blends have you most confused and that's understandable. At 16, she is a master at particle torn vocals which might be construed as a "duel voice". As for your expectation of range in her voice, you're grabbing at straws to appear neutral in your evaluation. Everything heard here is choice because as I've discovered, her vocal range is far more superior than you've discovered so far. Cheers!
it's true, bro....this guy wants to appear professional, but he could not hear the live sound\and in this competition, everyone performs only with a live sound\ and a live voice.and he didn't want to screw up in front of the audience, so he started inventing something that wasn't real.he doesn't know what yodel is,which is Diana's signature style,which is heard by all experienced singers and vocal teachers,they note Diana's amazing ability to use her entire range and clearly switch between registers,depending on the style and meaning of the song..you heard it everywhere, but he couldn't hear it on two high-quality videos recorded at the contest...the conclusion is simple-this guy can't sing himself, so he can't teach anyone..all that he said here was out of envy and basic incompetence...big greetings from Siberia and good luck to you ...
I apologize for the late reply brother. RUclips sucks when it comes to notifications and I never got one. You are correct, this guy knows nothing about singing because if he did, he would have recognized a pure talent when he heard one. I took the high road and let him off the hook and simply moved on. This is a competition and all children sing live, this is indicated by the inscription in the upper right corner of the Live Sound screen. Judges evaluate the vocal data of the contestants and not the filtered performances.

First song is by Edith Piaf and second song she is yodeling and singing in several languages (Russian, English, German and French). I highly doubt a 12 year old girl brought vocal effects with her to sing at a karaoke club.
There are also lots of non professional (not from TV) videos on RUclips of Diana singing outdoors on street corners in parks at shopping malls so plenty of evidence for you to review.
If you had called her freak of nature for having such a voice that would have been less insulting than saying she doesn't really sound like that.

It's a talent show contestants aren't allowed to alter their voices . The judges want to hear the talent and skills of the singers not what the sound engineer can do . Besides it's not fair to the other contestants . Also it seems pretty strange to be adding extra effects to her voice just to enhance the video . Do you think there doing that for all the contestants or just for Diana ? Doesn't make any sense . Watch what the many other vocal coaches that react only YT have to say about her . As unique as Diana's voice is they still seem to be able to work out how shes doing it and they all agree her voice is very unique and very rare .

@@cyberzangoose16 Exactly , If their looking to see how talented a singer is , they'd want to hear an actual voice and not an electronically manufactured voice . An altered voice would either mask the talent the judges are looking for or disguise the flaws in a less talented voice . It just doesn't make any sense for talent shows to allow any voice fakery .

I am not disputing your claim that her voice is unaltered, and even it it is, she has proven herself to be a talented songer regardless. There is evidence of shows altering voice, even though the aim should be to assess talent, the actual goal is to make money and get views. Slight affects make singers sound better, which means more views and more ad money.
Diana is a Really Rare True Contralto and sings polyphonic and overtones . every other vocal coach does not see the flaws you seem to see . this is a talent show there are no special effects .
There is no needs for digital effects, she probably did that effect, dark and low tone, with subharmonic, also named octavism, it's a kind of ''throat singing'', but producing subtone instead overtone, very popular in Eastern Europe. Using it some male singer can hit the first note of the piano. I hit the A0 about a week ago using it. It's not something you will get overnight and you can't pratice it everyday and nitheir a whole day, but just a couple minutes a day from time to time than you can increase a little but not too much, it's not specially healthy for the voice, but you can use it with moderation.

Man, that's why you make a reaction to her, because that's her real voice. And in the competition show, it is forbidden to use any voice manipulators that change the basic structure of the voice. Only effects such as delay or reverb are allowed. Otherwise, it will not be fair competition with the result of disqualification.
The contest would never allow such a thing...she does indeed have a technique to produce this sound herself. This is a talent show for orphans and or former orphans only.
shes using her tongue to change tone, its super hard to master while singing but you can do it, you should know about this already
You can't do that with the tongue per se, you use the tongue more in the back to push down the larynx, which is exactly what he is saying. But he says that there are additional artificial effects used (however, I am not educated in effects and post production, so I can't say anything about that 🤷♀️)

Hello Matt, I truly appreciate your videos and love your content but I think in this case you are wrong, there is no deepening effect on her voice, all you need do is watch her live performances of this song to see that this is how she sounds, also you should react to a couple of her other performances like "Blizzard" or "Human" which will give you a better idea of her range and ability. This woman is amazing....truly a remarkable talent.

You are incorrect. You need to view more of her videos before you make an assumption that is off base. She is a child prodigy who has been attending a Russian music academy and having voice lessons since she was very young and is a contralto who has the ability to manipulate her voice to extremely low notes and tones. Watch her video of “Human” and you will see an entire performance of her doing this. This performance of “Wicked Game” was on a live talent competition where they don’t use any artificial voice manipulation whatsoever. She performed “Human” during the finals of the same competition (which she won, by the way).

She has many performances around the world where she has sung exactly the same low notes and tone. Her normal speaking voice is low as well and she has been viewed by many vocal coaches. You are the ONLY vocal coach that has made that assumption. You need to go back to school.

I just discovered Diana today. And one of the first reactions I read was if this was the Middle Ages people would think she was a witch. That statement told me that some can’t believe she is that talented and a female can’t have that low of range in her voice. So those same people will be judge jury and hangman. So I need to ask is it BS when I hear Cher, Toni Braxton or Celine Dion use their contralto voices to sing. Why would respected musical people invest their time on her if this was BS would it be just to make a quick buck. Just like so many have said including me theyve never heard someone with such range it’s called an anomaly.

Just stumbled across this reaction because Diana is a vocal anomaly and seeing people react to her is satisfying.
But I gotta say, you should have done a little homework after your Rechenka reaction. This show is indeed funded by the Russian Government. Why? Because all the contestants are orphaned children and the show was to allow one of them a chance at having a better life. Diana first appeared on the show in 2018 at the age 14. The woman shown as her support is not her mother but the worker who eventually adopted her and has cared for her. She won the competition and has in fact won several others since.
The voice you hear is all her. Like I wrote, she’s a vocal anomaly. She has so much control of her voice and it’s powerful, demanding. She seems to have a real, genuine emotional connection to whatever she’s singing too.
It would be a good idea to maybe read up more on her, the show and maybe even dig into more of her performances. But, it’s your channel. Up to you. Cheers.

Hi you are very much entitled to your opinion of Diana's performances, if you take the time to listen to the very 1st performance (that I know of). Diana is only 10yrs old when she sings her cover of "oh darlin". On the 23rd January she had a presentation of her mini-album these being her most resent offerings, then & only then will you, in my opinion understand that this is truly Diana's true singing vocal tone.
You can't recognize if she is able to sing in that deep voice and you are a REAL vocal coach?? ... Jaa

If in doubt, watch her live streams with her friends. I was in disbelief too, especially when I have heard Crow song. But then I have heard her singing it on stream and all the sounds she made and notes were 100% legit. Mind blowing. And so so beautiful.

Hello, yes, I've come to destroy lol. Contrary to belief, this girl is legit. After listening to multiple performances by her from multiple sources, I can confirm that her voice is just super low. There are some effects used for this performance, but not one to lower her voice. If you don't believe me, then I suggest trying a video titled "Диана Анкудинова (Indila - Derniere danse)". It is her (a bit younger) singing the song Dernière Danse in a studio without backup singers or effects. I feel that this song will give you a more accurate idea of her voice. Happy listening :-)

The greatest risk you take in making reaction videos is talking too much without having done the research. It then takes away from your credibility.
While there is a second "voice" making it sound like she's flipping her voice in the two long AAAAAAAHHHHHs at the end of the song, she is capable of doing that flip and does it on other occasions. She uses backing tracks for most of her performances, and it's possible she even includes her own vocals in the backing track. There is some electronic reinforcement and manipulation at times in some of her performances, but I have not heard any that enhance or alter her voice beyond what she can do with her microphone and a standard reverb unit. Her voice is enhanced, not altered. She has amazing vocal abilities and appears to be coached by someone who enjoys Diana's unnatural abilities and lets her use them to the greatest advantage as a variety of instruments. Diana can go from violin to cello in the same phrase.
I have been intrigued by her voice since I first heard her and have listened to as many versions of her songs as I can find. She appears to have spent a lot of time experimenting with her voice as well as her microphone and knows how to use them to the greatest advantage. (She wouldn't sound quite the same with a headset.)
I don't mind your evaluation as you do make some good observations, but I suggest you be a little more diplomatic in your statements when you are hearing a song for the first time. and please sing less yourself on your videos. I have a good ear and it can be painful.

One of the judges famous russian maestro Igor Krutoy who is Dimash's friend, produser and songwriter said :" Diana doesn't just sing, she creats the worlds!". Krutoy is so kind man. On one side maybe he is correct when is talking about Diana's strong deep chest and high head voices and undiscovered middle voice.
On the other side she became so popular just because of her unique deep voice. She said in an interview with an American blogger that she sings easier in a low register and now is developing her other registers.
She created herself by participating in singer competitions since early childhood. Former orphan, she doesn't have funds to create cool videos. But Diana is going forward in spite of such "experts".

Those mongolian throat singers that sing two or three tones simultaneously seem impossible to do that they must be using mechanical effects but they're not. Other than standard vocal effects I think its her voice making that sound. I recommend a vocal analysis of Jinjer-Perennial live at Wacken. Btw I've seen your other videos and think you're hilarious!

I've said it before. There are 3 versions of this song I like the most. The original by Chris Isaak in 89, Diana & her rendition with a big production value & making it pop & Angelina Jordan's rendition completely stripped down to her playing a piano with 3-4 cords in her bedroom. It's a completely a different approach to the song. Angelina just tells a story with her voice & she's only 11-12 when she did it & english isn't he 1st language but 3rd.

A vocal coach that doesn't know what a contralto is. Nor that singers can sing the same note very differently, at various volumes. I can hit (since I am a bass) a G#1 both in chest, fry and subharmonics. It has totally different qualities in each. I can hit a B0 with subharmonics too, I sound like a boat. Bet you would call it bs too. At least you admit you could be wrong. If you ever listened to a man bass singer, you'd understand why what she is doing isn't that outlandish.
Edit: I'm completely astonished. This vocal coach doesn't seem to know that chest and headvoice are two completely different registers.

Her voice is so confusing sometimes... don't know how she does it. Most vocal coaches are completely confused when they hear her. She is Igor krutoy's protégé and Igor is a judge here. Her and Dimash performing together will blow every one away.
This guy is a joke, can't tell the difference between delayed reverb and back up singer, or many other wrong assumptions. As far as her singing in mix voice, why would she want to be like everyone else? Her being different is what makes her so great, but you failed at realizing it due to being close minded.

At the age of four-and-a-half years, Diana's speech was extremely poor, with stuttering and other problems. Speech pathologists recommended that she be given singing lessons to improve her general speech and vocal skills.[6] She quickly discovered that she loved singing.
The head of the brass band of the city of Arsenyev, Alexander Varnamov, was the first to say that Diana had an extraordinary and very beautiful voice, and also a perfect ear for music. He predicted a great future for Diana as a singer.[7][8]
Diana's instructors also noticed her unique vocal abilities in her singing. Alexander Varnamov made an agreement with Elena Kazantseva, head the vocal pop ensemble Zhemchuzhinki (Pearls), so that she would accept Diana into the collective.[9] She also sang in a duet "Malinki" under the direction of Elena Kazantseva.
Diana entered the Elegance vocal and choreographic school under the guidance of Anna Pekhtereva in the city of Arsenyev.[10]
Diana began entering many vocal contests while still very young. She also began singing in public events at every opportunity that was presented to her.
After the move to Tolyatti, Diana continued singing in public at every opportunity and continued to enter many vocal competitions. She began studying vocals at the Melody circle of the Tolyatti House of Culture where she took vocal lessons from Svetlana Vovk.[5]
Diana played one of the main roles in the musical Teremok with the Russian orchestra of the Tolyatti Philharmonic in November 2014.[11]
In the theater and music studio at DKIT under the direction of Dmitry Marfin, she played in the musical Visiting the Fairy Tale, and also played the role of Becky Thatcher in the Jazz musical Tom Sawyer and His Friends,[12][13] played the role of Muryonka the cat in the opera "Silver Hoof" in Tolyatti Philharmonic, in the musical Vovka in the Jazz Kingdom, in the musical New Adventures of Electronics.[14]

2013 - She won the Grand Prix of the regional competition for children and youth creativity Kind Heart at the festival Bereginya in the nomination "soloists - pop vocal";
2014 - She became the Silver Voice of the All-Russian competition-festival Talents of the land of Volga;
January 2017 - She received the diploma of the 1st degree Laureate, semi-finalist of the International Competition for Children and Youth Creativity "Art Premium" with the support of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, and the Government of Moscow of Moscow city.
April 2017 - She won the gold medal of the XVI All-Russian Youth Delphic Games in the category "Variety Singing" - finishing first among 39 participants.[15]

The idea that this video is about Ankudinova, her singing and your reaction to it is laughable. This video is about you. All I've been able to hear is you talking about how you coach, how you sing, your voice and how you adjust to the same song...etc. You should talk a fraction of the time of the song you are reviewing. Imagine listening to an eight-hour review of a two-hour movie.
i watch a lot of vocal coach ,singer or songwriter reaction, and no one mentioned that can not downloaded video of Diana performance because Russian government not allowed that (strange remark from you). And these its singing competition ( 50-60 participant ) who sing in front of audience and judges ( one its famous Igor Krutoy who work with Dimash), so if you use logic its a little hard to believe that Diana make fool of all in these competition. But from other side can not all like Diana singing and you are not first, some other was ,or try to be polite react one performance and not do anymore, you manage to react on 2. Who knows maybe one day you will change your opinion about Diana singing?
