What I thought would cost me at least $800 in a new washer ended up costing me $35 for a new part. With your instruction, I easily replaced the old one in about three minutes. I cannot thank you enough, John.

Our problem was that the washer would not drain. So we pulled the wet clothes out and I put this lid switch part on. As of this moment it appears to be draining the old water out. Then I’ll try to put another load in and see if it fully completes a cycle. I’ll make another update but as of now I followed everything on this video exactly like he said. Everything was simple. The hardest part was waiting for Amazon two day shipping lol but it came today so that’d be no different than just going to a parts store on a Monday when they opened since I had to wait anyway. I ordered part last Saturday. Thanks great video.
UPDATE: The washer machine works perfectly. Runs like new. Thanks to this video. Saved us much money that we didn’t have. Lid switch was from Amazon for like 10 bucks or so free two day shipping.

My washer, which is an oldie but goodie, quit in the middle of a heavy towel load. I tried everything. Finally I Googled it and thought it sounds like the lid switch. I ordered the part for $8 on EBay and even got free shipping. Four days later it arrived and was a VERY easy fix, thanks to this video. Washer works like a dream again all for $8!
Side note: I did take my towels to the laundry mat just to wash since I didn’t want them getting smelly. It cost $20! I should have just paid for overnight shipping.

This video is helpful to show how to open the top panel to get to the switch, but Look for a different video by Rich Brown whirlpool washer repair that shows how to straighten a bent lid pin (this is the same item as the hinge on the left side). It was the only video that mention that if the hinge on the left might be bent and won't line up with the switch. It was very easy to remove and I put my bent hinge on a edge of my brick walk way and used a rubber hammer to bend it back straight. Reinstalled straightened hinge and the switch now works when the lid closes. Did not have to by a new switch or by pass the switch with a jumper like most videos show to do. Zero cost to repair. I use to have to slam the hind many time to get the washer to start. So easy to fix, I waited a year with this problem thinking it would be an all weekend job. Completed in 15 min. Check this first to see if your lid hinge on the left side might also be bent. Thank you Rich Brown for posting that fix!

+M Sii If you have the crimp style connectors you can just crimp them. Soldering is not always necessary, which ever way you go make sure it is insulated and protected from water.

Lucas Preble I cannot reply to your post as you have the reply function turned off. AP3131785 is the part number of the plastic block, unfortunately they do not sell the terminals, you can try to pick those up locally and repair the harness. The only other way would be to go to our site and enter your model number and purchase the whole wiring harness.

Thank you. I have to do this today. The only thing is, the ground wire connector won't come out(the black part), it's like fully connected to the switch? I think mine is an older model, but anyway yes, thank you for posting this I will do my best to fix it myself! Since I'm the one who took it all apart just to find out the lid switch is defective. Mind you I'm a 28 yr old small frame woman.... I DONT NEED A MAN! Muwahahaha! K bye

You actually need two tools to do this repair. A Philips head screwdriver and a hex nut wrench.
